THISRESTAURANTHASCLOSED!!! I am so disappointed. I went to grab a sandwich last night, walked up to the door and there was Three Day Notice to Pay Rent or Quit on the door, plus a note from management stating that they were closed due to the high cost of rent and to visit them either in Sunnyvale or Mountain View.

This location has closed. Note on the door that the real estate prices were too high and you need to go to one of their other locations. Truck was rolling in to haul off the equipment when we got there. been to Sunnyvale location, was good.

Weirdest experience. On part of my weekly hangout night in PA. We’ve gone from INDO to Taquiera Azteca, and hilariously at this point the first thing I mention is usually the place the group picks(which is why I hate going out with non-Yelpers, we have options people!) and this time it was The Cheese Steak Shop. I’ve been to the San Jose location but it has phased out in favor of Blue Chip. So we went over. As we walk in, the chef is standing directly behind the elderly cashier, looking pissed off. Neither the chef nor the cashier smiles or acts positive at any point we are there. At a back table are two older hippies working on something and constantly walking around. Ok… Fortunately we are able to order without any issue. The food was decent, though disappointed there is no mayo available anywhere, and based on how the staff is acting, asking for it seems like it would be the equivalent of pulling teeth. Later, another customer walks in, a grown man, and basically acts like this is his first time purchasing anything: he asks if he can use Apple Pay, then charging multiple cards, asking what everything on the menu is, and even though he ordered to go ends up eating there. With so many better options in the area, I was disappointed we went here. But knowing how my friends react, I can now game them into picking what I actually want.

I stopped here as a last hoorah before our office moved to Mtn View. I can’t believe I didn’t try this place sooner! Their cheese steak is great, I couldn’t stop eating, and even though I wanted to try all the restaurants I never had a chance to try while our office was still on California, I couldn’t get myself to walk into any other establishment for lunch. I went to this place every day for our final 8 days of working from Palo Alto. YUM

OWNER or MANAGERPLEASEREADANDFIXYOURPROBLEMS! This place is slower than molasses! I’ve gone to this location twice now. The first time it took 10 minutes just to get my cheesesteak and there was only one customer in front of me. Don’t even bother calling ahead because I’ve tried numerous times and apparently their phone is non existent. I decided to still go in to order and there was 4 – 5 people still waiting on their orders. I walked up to the register and all the cheesesteaks were just sitting there dying. I barely got an acknowledgment when I walked in and walked out before anyone could even take my order. This place could be a better asset to those who are on the road and are in a bit of a hurry to grab some food. But since nobody answers the phone, screw it. I live in San Jose and the quality of the food both there and Milpitas taste a lot better than this location.

Our first obstacle was the door — it actually feels locked. If you decide to go here, make sure to pull quite hard. I decided to use the restroom while my wife and I were waiting for our cheese steaks — I was a bit disturbed the find the bathroom devoid of toilet paper or, more importantly, hand soap. Initially I was only a bit annoyed, but then I realized: how are the employees washing THEIR hands? Unfortunately, I had already ordered so I decided, «it’s cooked food anyways and I’m probably just an OCD nut…» The sandwich was quite good and I thought, «perhaps I misjudged the place.» WELL! this morning, both my wife and I were confined to the toilet for at least a half hour each(quite the problem with only one bathroom in our small apartment). I’m giving them two stars because although the food was decent, it gave us both food poisoning.

Service has really gone down… The old manager was always friendly and kind. The new manager has a «I’m right you’re wrong attitude.» Had to fight to have my King of Philly fixed. It was obviously a normal 10″ I was given. Been coming here for years… Might be my last visit

The food is good, hands down great cheese steak. However their service sucks! The guy who I think is a mgr. is uninviting, unpleasant, not courteous at all. No thank you’s, no how are you, what can I get you. Starts off with what do you want. Easily gets frustrated and shows it in front if the customers, doesn’t smile. I’ve been coming here atleast twice a week since August. After today’s attitude I’ll never go back simply due to him being there. All the employees I referred to I’m also going to warn and advise not to go back, there’s tons of food joints around, until they get rid of this jackass I’ll be going to the San Jose locations where they show appreciation for their customers. My recommendation don’t go to this location, the cashier/mgr will ruin your day.

One of the perks of being on the road every day and jumping from city to city is the fact that we get to discover and check in to new places like The Cheesesteak Shop in Palo Alto. Initially, this wasn’t our first choice at all. Our aim was to drop by this place called Simply Sandwiches(healthier choice of food), though they were closing in less than half an hour and our schedule is hectic every day, always crunching on time! I’m glad we came across this place. I mean, it’s lunch time, how can you resist cheese and steak together? Doesn’t that sound salivating to you at all? I know it does for me! :D The place is clean, several tables and chairs left and right, two cash registers, one staff managing the cooking area, and the other on the cash register. The service was rather standard with a quick hello in the beginning and a simple thank you at the end. I ordered the classic philly sandwich(7 inches long) for $ 4.99, small tray of onion rings for $ 2.89, and also small garlic fries for $ 2.99. The wait didn’t take that long, I’d say well under 10 minutes. The classic philly was savory for sure, topped with jalapenos, red bell peppers, and caramelized onions, not to mention with white cheese oozing at every bite! Yummy in my tummy! The onion rings was crunchy, tasty, fresh from the fryer, and cooked just fine. The garlic fries was simply very aromatic, garnished with finely minced garlic and little green flakes, which I believed to be parsley. One more thing though, I thought it was a little bland, just a tad bit though not a big issue since I always keep extra condiments in my vehicle. :D I will certainly come back to this place if ever I’m in town again, or doing a job in the area. My next item to order off their menu is the king of philly. I have a high expectation that this item will raise the taste buds off the roof of my mouth!

Wacky Wednesday makes hump day great! Buy 3 get 1 free on cheesesteaks and half price appetizers, heck yeah! Definitely got to get a stamp card here. Since opening, they have definitely improved their cheese and steak portions and extra peppers are free! The friendly staff is a def plus.

Simple and good. This is a meaty philly sandwich. They have nice bread and meat. They use the right kind of cheese. It’s not fancy or awesome or super cheap, but it definitely satisfies that ‘real good meat sandwich’ craving. Decent menu. Tried a bunch of things. Recommend the mushroom 10″ or the king of philly. The one with a bunch of stuff like salami and what not(their ‘banquet on a bun’) isn’t bad but isn’t amazing. Not a huge fan of the peppers, but a big fan of the onions. Reliable cheesesteak joint. Could have better(especially late night) hours.

Perfectly decent outlet of a local chain that serves perfectly decent cheesesteak sandwiches. The«King of Philly» sandwiches are extra meaty and worth the extra expense, and, for loyalists, they have punch cards that entitle you to free sandwiches after a certain amount of spending. There’s not much ambience besides ringing up your order, grabbing a drink, and waiting around at one of the few tables, so it’s a no-frills experience that’s good for a quick bite and popular with Stanford students.

STEAKFRIES!!! It’s all about the steak fries. So good. We shared a hoagie and it was MASSIVE. I can see why students venture here to get food. You get a lot for your money!

I was driving a friend to this area and was so hungry. Haven’t had lunch at 3 in the afternoon. I was ready to devour a dinosaur. Lol So I searched my ever reliable Unilocal for a good place to eat around the area. Found this place. As with everyone, I went through the reviews of other fellow Unilocal-ers. Hmmmm… it was a mixed review. However, it is a sunday and I don’t have too many options in the area and I was getting hungrier by the minute. So I went in and tried it for myself. Wow! I was in for a big surprise. I ordered«the King of Philly» with lots more meat and cheese. Just what a hungry man needed to fill up his appetite. I haven’t tried so many cheese steaks yet but I’d have to say that this is a good one. lots of flavor, lots of cheese and lots of meat. Finished the whole 10-inch in no time. The sweet and chilli pepper on top made a lot of difference. I think that’s true for my experience since I had lots of meat and cheese on my sandwhich. Ordered the steak fries as well based on recommendation. Not a big fan of it. I’m more of a sweet potato fries guy. But don’t get me wrong. It was decent. Just beware, if you have salt&fluid restriction on your diet stay away from these fries. It tends to get a bit salty. Service was good. The guy behind the counter is very friendly and efficient. Not to forget that he’s accommodating a well. All in all, it was a good experience for me. Satisfied my lunch hunger in a very tasty way. There are lots of parking at the back.

The cheese steak I ordered was the standard 10″, and I was disappointed because it was real easy to eat in just a few minutes. In other words, it is a real small sandwich for $ 7. If you want a real steak and cheese, done right without the skimpy approach, try Amato’s and you will see the real deal. By comparison, these guys should be ashamed. That said, the little 10″ cheese steak I had was good, it just left me wanting the other half…

This place is AWESOME! I wasn’t aware that Cheese Steak Shop was a chain(and a popular one at that), but when I saw the rave reviews I knew I had to drop by. Several things make it stand out: 1) They open at 10:30 am Got the morning munchies? This place REALLY satisfies. I was starving and was thrilled when they were open about an hour earlier than most lunch spots. 2) The ingredients are top notch. I loved the amoroso bread and found the steak to be tasty, covered with cheese, and perfectly complemented by the fried onions, hot and sweet peppers. 3) They offer a lot of customization options. I touched base with connections in Philly and they told me the way to have it is to have cheese wiz. Though I love the quality provolone cheese that is standard, being able to get the Wiz makes it that much more authentic. Service was quick and fast and the interior is clean and nicer than I expected with wood tables. Although it’s been a few years since I’ve had Amato’s(the old champ), I love all the locations the Cheese Steak Shop and really loved the peppers and flavor. I got the 10″ and planned to save half but it was so good I found myself finishing it in no time flat. Their logo is true: «this could be habit forming.» With locations in SF, Berkeley, Livermore, Sunnyvale, San Jose, and now Palo Alto, everyone in the Bay Area can try this place and they should. Prices are reasonable(~$ 7 – 10 for a 7 or 10 inch sandwich filled with ingredients). Cheese Steak Shop accepts credit cards, but not American Express.

I think I’ve been waiting for this place to open for at least 6 months now. I never thought it would happen. At last, it is open and it is good. Even better, it’s across the street from my office. Food. Yum. Clean. Yes. Friendly. Yup. Done. Chris H. posted up pics of the menu so you can see the prices yourself. The prices seem pretty reasonable.
