The grocery is so absurdly expensive. Seriously, the markup from here and the nearby Molly Stone is 100%. Things cost TWICEASMUCH here. I don’t know how they get away with it, but they do — just look at all the glowing reviews on Unilocal! The deli is good but the high prices are inexcusable.

Wanted to love this place, but I got the worst egg salad sandwich here of all time. It was definitely more than a few days old and I still feel like I can’t get the taste out of my mouth! Just a no-go after that.

Love their Veggie Sandwiches, Great selections of bread and unique condiments… They have fresh produce but little pricey… its located in heart of palo alto very near to downtown… close that justifies the price but not that bad… Sandwiches are huge and is actually a feast… hard to finish one unless you ran a marathon:)…

Market and deli. Good for a fresh tasting homemade style sandwich QUALITY: 4 stars –tasted as if u went to the grocery store, bought the sandwich stuff and made it yourself –fresh ingredients –very large portioning of meat PRICE: 4 stars -$ 6.99 per sandwich –get full with one sandwich SERVICE: 4 stars –nice friendly people –very neighborhood friendly feeling OVERALL: come here for a fresh sandwich that you could prob make yourself but prob also too lazy. Very basic sandwich ingredients so this is not for those looking for the crazy/greasy/saucy extravagant sandwiches other shops have.

I used to shop here a lot because it was close to my place. Bread is really good, however, overall it’s pricy. People are really friendly.

Easily the worst market/deli I have been to. We always avoid the thought of buying anything for convenience here. The first thing to note is this place doesn’t care about your health. Many things in this store are old. We looked at a salad dressing, two years expired. Looked at a ginger ale, one year expired. They simply lack any sort of care towards throwing out food that might be old. Even the sandwiches that all Unilocalers seem to love. One time they didn’t have lettuce when he was making me a «Deli» sandwich. So they went to one of his old salad boxes from the fridge and got me some lettuce from there! It was totally soggy and gross. I believe the person who did this was the younger generation of the new ownership. Another time I came back and had a worse experience. One of the guys behind the counter tried to tell me they were out of dutch crunch, but the other guy corrected him and said they had it. What did he give me? What I believe to be days old bread — it was totally soggy, stale, and inedible. Finally, this place is unpleasant to shop in. Their floors are disgusting. The coolers look old. They have this weird tape over their drink coolers. When you enter the store, they will stare at you and say nothing. When you leave without anything though, they will be sure to ask you, «Can we help you with anything?»

Well it’s not the most neat or sparkling place, but it probably has most stuff you’d need. 3 fave parts: 1. Sushi! They have fresh sushi daily(at least they say so) and it’s a decent price(~$ 8 for 12 pieces), and it tastes sooo much better than the fake-rice, fake-avocado sushi at Trader Joe’s(I love TJ’s, just not that Okami sushi). 2. Pomegranates. They were HUGE! Like, the size of 3 pomegrantes at TJ’s. And $ 1/pound. 3. Store owner, or the guy that checked us out, gave each of us a free kiwi. ‘Nuff said. ^^

So sorry to say this, but under the new ownership this place is not the same. The deli counter is definitely not as good, and many of the high-end staples(Acme bread, good chocolate) are absent. The folks could not be nicer, but without the good food to back it up…

Home of the sandwich of your dreams. No fuss, no frills, great produce, and boarshead meat. They offer a wide selection of sandwich toppings and offer dutch crunch as a bread option… if you ain’t down then you don’t know! Dutch crunch bread is a delight for the senses and even better on your JJandF creation. The establishment is family owned, and I’ve had warm and genuine experiences with all the staff each and every time. It makes you feel good to support them, and the good karma is paid off in every bite of your sandwich. To sweeten the deal, they offer a sandwich stamp card so you can get your free sandwich after 10 stamps. That’s whatsup. Sandwich building options are completely flexible so feel free to let them know what you want! Pair your sandwich with a bag of chips, a mini block of cheese, or an aloe drink. JJandF’s carries a fantastic assortment of snacks that you won’t find at other grocery stores. They even offer homemade chili and cold deli varieties if you choose other sides. You are part of a winning team, JJandF’s!

Love this place. I used to come here everyday when I was working at Stanford but I still come in. I used to come in during my lunch break and split a sandwich with my coworker. All the meats are really good and I lovedd adding avocado and ancho chipotle sauce. The onion rings are also pretty good too. Haagen-Dazs has a limited edition Salted Caramel Truffle that I’ve literally been hunting down for almost three months. While driving towards 280 to get home I decided to stop by here since they have a really good selection of stuff, and I was ecstatic but not surprised that I found the ice cream here! :)

Definitely the best deli in PA, but probably not the best grocery store. I never really shopped here at any point, but compared to a year ago, the standard grocery products here generally look more run-down. The deli, however, is still excellent. As others have mentioned, the dutch crunch is delicious. They also slice their high quality meats only once you order your sandwich so your meat is as fresh as can be. The peppered turkey is delicious… better than any other deli’s version. They stack your sandwich with tons of meat and other toppings… definitely the most bang for your buck. The avocado they put on the sandwich is also always fresh. I’ve found the employees to be extremely nice and helpful. They’re always very chatty and upbeat. I’ve been in a couple of times lately without my sandwich card, so when I today asked the cashier for a new one, he even added a few extra stamps because he «knew they had missed a couple for me lately.» Five stars for that alone! As an added bonus, they also have an extensive selection of imported candy. For the candy lovers like me, I really enjoy that I can get all the British candy bars(Mars, Crunchy, etc) as well as the European brands(lots of Kinder!), and many other foreign candies I’ve never had. Definitely something extra to check out!

*** 3.5 Stars *** Mmm Sandwiches! I love coming to JJ&F especially because they offer a frequent buyers card. Buy 10 sandwiches get one free! What a great deal. The sandwiches here are fresh and layered with tons of toppings! If you’re a student, you’ll know to come here and stamp your sandwich card. I don’t come here for anything else but their sandwiches. Huzzah, JJ&F! Does anyone know what that stands for anyway?

One of the best delis in the bay area. *The* place in Palo Alto to get a truly good deli style sandwich. Great selection of high quality ingredients(bread, meats, etc.), so things are very customizable. They put plenty of the ingredients(including the meat & cheese) on the sandwich and the prices are quite decent. My favorite sandwich: havarti & prosciutto on whole wheat! The baked goods they sell are also awesome.

whoa… what happened. This place used to be awesome but the vibe just turned sour all of a sudden. They don’t carry Acme bread anymore they don’t carry Strauss Milk anymore. I don’t see the croissants anymore. Where are all the helpful and nice people in front? It seems they have shifted their model to more of a stop-n-rob than a nice local corner grocery store. Pretty much none of the fruits and Vegies are Organic The meat is just standard. I really dont have any reason to come here anymore except for the fact that its closest to my house. If I want good vegies I can go to Country Sun or Piazza on Charlsten or farmers market If I want grass fed beef or good deli meats and cheese — Piazza Acme Bread — the store front or Molly Stones And I finally had a sandwhich here. It wasn’t all that great.

Such a cute little spot! I walked in the door looking for a snack on my way to a friend’s house and was immediately drawn to the deli counter by the smell of delicious roast chicken. It was 4pm, I was starving, you can’t really blame a Jewish girl who loves her roast chicken… I bought a whole chicken. It just smelled so good, and it was perfectly petite and crispy around the edges. Yum! I was going to buy some fresh veggies to go along with it, but the produce selection was a little spare so I opted out for the day. Only reason this isn’t a five-star review. The staff was super helpful and friendly, and they’ve otherwise got everything you could need to whip up a meal on short notice without having to drive all the way to Safeway. Great little neighborhood spot.

I used to live around the corner from this place and remember coming here after school in search of some snack to satiate my stoned state. Oh teenage angst, the distance between us is bittersweet. I love JJ&F for having such a hometown feel that naturally, or so it seems, comes with excellent customer service. Despite its busy location, parking has never really been a chore; that is why I still stop by occasionally, even though I now live on the other side of town.

I had heard good things about this market, and since they were bought by another market and will be closing soon, we figured we’d check them out before they closed. I don’t know what this place was like before they were sold, but it was kind of dumpy when we were there. Although, i was impressed by their extensive meat/fish/poultry department, and the pleasant service. I’m excited to see who bought this place, and what market it will be.

Sandwich review only. Seeing the Boar’s Head sign and the meat slicer is always reassuring and in this case the sandwich lived up to my expectations. Choose your bread(10 varieties), cheese, meat and fixings for $ 5.99 — $ 6.99. They have your standards, e.g., tuna salad, egg salad, different types of turkey, meatloaf, meatball, prosciutto, etc. The deli case contained prepared food, including various salads. Potato chips are kept near the sandwich counter. I opted for the meatloaf sandwich($ 6.99) on Dutch Crunch with Swiss cheese. The meatloaf came from the deli case and was reheated in the microwave. The slices were quite thick and dense/firm. The meatloaf tasted good on its own but the ketchup layer made it too sweet. All the veggies were fresh, including lettuce, tomato slices, onion, sprouts(yay), pepperocini, and pickles. You can get mustard, mayo and/or the spread(the spread is a mayo-mustard combo). The roll was fine but nothing special. The quality of the bread is an important part of the sandwich. The sandwich felt hefty and was stacked so high that it was difficult to bite into. The market had cookies from Pacific Cookie Company, drinks, fresh meat, cheese section, hot soup, rotisserie chicken, and Hi-Chew by the cash register. There isn’t any seating.

The place for good, non-chain deli sandwiches around the Palo Alto– California Ave area. This is one of [work] lunch spots so I come here quite often. If you go during the lunch rush(12 pm-1pm), the deli gets quite busy. They’ve got the deli part and then the hot foods part(chicken, turkey, ribs, etc). Both you’ll want to grab a number ticket to queue up for. The deli selection is typical and their hot meats selection varies by day(BBQ Brisket, BBQ Pulled Pork, Meatballs, Meatloaf, etc). If I go hot, I usually go Pulled Pork of Meatballs. Meatloaf is pretty average but the brisket was tough as heck like jerky. The bread selection includes Whole wheat roll, whole wheat bread, sourdough roll, dutch crunch roll, and onion roll. The dutch crunch is pretty good. Full size sandwich for $ 5.99(tastes MUCH better than nearby Subway and Quiznos) and half-sandwich for $ 4. Frequent sandwich cards– 8(?) stamps then free. Fresh fruit and veggies. Nice beer selection. Oh, they’ve got Haribo candies in the front. AWESOME.
