Always been a fan of Pieology since the first time I tried it at their Brokaw location in San Jose. I think I’ve always gotten the same pie which is the BBQ chicken. I like strong flavors and love Gorgonzola cheese. I was a little put off at this location in Palo Alto when the first guy on the line had a little bit of an attitude because either he didn’t know what went on the pies or he was asked to do something past his required section. Whatevs. Still finished my pie like a champ.

I love this place. It is like subway for pizza. They have several different types of sauces, and crust options. They also have different kind of cheeses including vegan cheese. They have a huge selection of meats and vegetables that you can choose from. Also salads. The pizza is to die for. It is a great individual pizza for a fantastic price.

Was my first time at a pieology … Since I always eat at blaze. Can I just say worst customer service ever. There was no line or anything and the lady who was making our pizza was giving so much attitude. They didn’t even have red onions ! How does a pizza place run out of toppings. Honestly not even mad about the toppings as much as I am about her attitude. She was a bigger girl wearing red shoes. Stud earrings. I wish I got her name Bc she was just ridiculous … And rolled her eyes at me. And ugh… I doubt I’ll ever be back at any location since this place was supposed to make me want to try other locations too but that didn’t happen.

I have to admit, I was confused when Pieology opened here, literally just blocks away from Pizza Studio, which is basically the same thing. But Pizza Studio is no longer, so I guess they’ve done okay. I don’t have too much to say about Pieology — it’s another one of these«build your own» pizza joints that seems to have become a fad in recent years. Including tax, you can get yourself a custom-built pie for $ 9.41. Not a bad deal at all! Unlike some other competitors, they have limited crust and sauce options, but I don’t mind that much since I like the classic standbys. They have a great selection of veggies and I’ve built myself a pizza loaded with lots of yummy toppings. Pieology isn’t going to be the most amazing pizza you’ve had in your life, but I don’t think that’s what they’re going for. It’s simply a nice quick and casual spot that allows you to customize your pizza, and it’s worth a visit if that’s what you’re in the mood for.

I’ve tried other make your own pizza joints(Pizza Studio, Mod Pizza, and Fresh Pixx). I have to say they are one of the best! Crust wise, it’s a toss up between them and Mod Pizza. Mod’s is a bit thicker. So, pick either depending on how you’re feeling. Topping wise, I would have to give a slight edge to Pieology. And the reason for it is their hot sauce as used on their Spicy Buffalo Chicken pizza. It had great flavor and the right amount of heat to it! The staff was friendly, quick, and looked like they really enjoyed meeting your particular desires, etc.

We came on a Sunday; there wasn’t much of a line — two people before us and one behind. The service moved incredibly slow — we waited somewhere between 20 – 30 minutes in line before we could begin ordering our«pies». There was only one girl prepping the pies, another gal checking on the pies in the oven, and a guy who seemed like the manager/supervisor who was also manning the cash register. After putting in our orders, we tried to figure out why their service was as slow as it was, considering the promise posted at the line entrance was one of convenience. We got their regular dough crust and two staples on their menu — one with bbq chicken and another white pie, both with some modifications due to their lack of ingredients that day(how can a pizza place offering margherita on the menu run out of basil?). The pies themselves tasted fine, but the crust just doesn’t cut it. It reminded us of the thin crust pizzas you can get from dominoes. Nothing special, a little it like eating cardboard. Granted, you can judge a good authentic thin crust pizza from the quality of the crust and dough, and this place obviously isn’t going for authentic. Ultimately, we found the pizzas somewhat adequate as food but generally dissatisfying for the experience. Slow service for a store designed to look like convenience(a la Chipotle), low energy in its staff, and disappointing product. I wouldn’t recommend Pieology despite its good intentions to sourcing locally and being custom. I’d rather go to a sit down like nearby Delfina for a better quality pie, even for the wait.

I came here for a gluten free pizza… but at 1pm on Sunday they ran out of gluten free dough. I then opted for a salad and they ran out of lettuce… seriously? The waiter didn’t care & was not apologetic. Apart from the lack of choices, the place was gross, tables, floors… I won’t be coming back!

Keep your expectations very low and you won’t be too disappointed if you eat here. My family of 4 ate here tonight and so far, 60 minutes later 2 have serious diarrhea and I have stomach ache. I kid you not . Santa Clara Health Dept. needs to visit here ASAP before someone is seriously sickened. Staff don’t seem to know or care what food allergies are, they need a simple system to identify pizzas in a large order and look up the word cleanliness in a dictionary! Workspace mediocre, tables poor and no toilet roll at 7:00 pm on a Friday night. Go right ahead and eat here. Whoever ‘manages’ this place,(fake reviewer Nicole S.. Really ?) needs to get some basic training and fast !

I’ve been to a bunch of these custom pizza places recently so I was excited to try this one. It’s unlimited toppings, which is awesome given the price! I got chicken and a lot of veggies on wheat crust. My pizza tasted good but nothing stellar. A lot of the veggies were just raw and unseasoned so the toppings weren’t very flavorful. The crust was thin and crispy, which I like for the most part, but this crust was super thin and almost nonexistent. Overall, I liked the customizability. You can choose white or wheat crust, unlimited toppings, and whatever sauces you like. The staff was friendly. The food is fairly priced. That being said, I’ve had better in terms of flavor.

Pieology is my favorite of the build-your-own pizza chains(Mod, Blaze, etc.), but that being said I feel this one falls a bit short of the others(Fremont, Berkeley). It’s still exceptional though. Pro tips: Mix pesto + red sauce as your base Get mozzarella, parmesan, AND ricotta Get the Herb butter, and add lots of garlic. Lots. Ask them for hot sauce.

I have pie in the sky hopes and this place fulfills them all! Let’s get down to it. Ambiance: In the same spot where Fish’s Wild Grill and Freebirds used to be, I hope Pieology can stay around for a long time. Clean, casual, looks identical to the Freebirds except for the giant pizza oven that’s now in the kitchen Service: This is the Chipotle of pizza, so you make it as you go. The people are really nice and it might be because I always come during down time, but they’re really patient about my questions about all the different sauces/toppings. Food: I like my pizzas with everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. I put in probably 90% of all the toppings they offer and if you’ve ever been there, that’s a lot. This is my main reason for loving this place, I can put as much of anything I want and it always costs the same! They are cheaper than Pizza Studio down on Cal Ave and their pizza always comes out perfect and crunchy. Because I have so many toppings, I can usually only eat half so it’s even cheaper because it breaks down into 2 meals. I already have multiple check-ins and I’m sure there will be plenty more.

After a pretty meh first experience here, I gave this place a 3 because I thought my pizza was good but not great, and the server put barely any sauce on my pizza. However, the owner kindly messaged me on Unilocal and offered me a gift card here. I actually never received it. Maybe it got lost(?). Regardless, I needed to grab a quick dinner today, and my friend’s parents who took us out wanted customized pizza. After a second time here, I think I can say that this place does offer a great selection of vegetables and sauces! My mistake the first time was not requesting for more sauce, although today the server put plenty sauce on my pizza. Let me break down what I got: PIZZA –The base: Whole wheat, herb butter, Alfredo and pesto sauce, mozzarella cheese –The vegetable toppings: spinach, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, olives, mushrooms, garlic, fresh basil –The protein toppings: chicken I really like the combo of Alfredo and pesto sauce. With all the vegetables and pesto sauce, I felt like I was eating a yummy salad on a thin, crispy pizza crust. The tomatoes once again were very delicious and added to the freshness of my pizza. All I can say is that I felt satisfied after eating half of my pizza. I’m not sure when I’ll be back because as I’ve said in my other review, there are quite a lot of pizza places in the area. However, it is a quick drive away from my apartment and can be a pretty fulfilling meal. Maybe I’ll come again, but for now I do think Pieology deserves a 4!

Not bad. Out of the DIY pizza places(Pizza Studio, MOD, and Pieology), Pizza Studio is my favorite. Pieology has some things going for it though. They have an incredible variety of toppings, and the pizza tasted good. As a con, it’s the priciest of the three chains. I wonder how long this location will survive, because if you don’t know it’s there, you would probably never find it.

I have to kudo these guys for willing to go neck to neck with Pizza studio down the street and also there are several other restaurants within walking distance that offer pizza and they still decide to open in this location! First of all, the pricing seems a tiny bit lower than pizza studio, although, the concept is exactly the same. This is the CHIPOTLE style pizza place where you enter into an assembly line, pick your dough, sauce and toppings for your pizza and they make it there in front of you. As you pay for your pizza, they threw the pizza into the oven and voila, your pizza is ready within minutes! Yup, fast pizza!!! The crust is thin and so you’re the low carb people. this is a great pizza place for you. You choose what you want to put on your pizza, so say you want no oil, no butter, no cheese, etc. you make it your own! It’s always fun to adventure with the variety of toppings. One thing that I think more supreme for Pieology compared to Pizza Studio is that they have more topping options! So if you’re a greedy chubby pizza person like me… this place is awesome because you can put bunch of different things on your pizza haahahah! The pizza is quiet large too… smaller stomach can easily eat one pizza(cost you less than $ 10! for aroudn 12 inches diameter) for 2 – 3 meals!

Pieology does for Pizza what Chipotle does for burritos — providing a fast, fresh, inexpensive and tasty meal. This is truly«personal» pizza. Like other built-in-front-of-you restaurants, you choose your bread, err, dough. You then choose the sauce(s), cheese and toppings that you want on your pizza. Once your pizza is built, it carefully placed inside of their high temperature pizza oven and is brought to your table fully cooked within minutes. This concept is becoming popular as of late and can be easily compared/contrasted with Pizza Studio restaurants on nearby California Ave. or San Antonio Road. PROS: Unlimited toppings! Large variety of toppings(particularly when compared with Pizza Studio). Good variety of cheese selections. Ingredients are fresh. Friendly staff — happy to pile on the toppings! Cheap, cheap, cheap! CONS: Pizza is cooked in a high temp oven. Consequently, the bottom of your pizza is rubbed with a somewhat ashy coating. It doesn’t affect the taste, but you’ll definitely need some napkins. Dough selection is limited(particularly when compared with Pizza Studio). It would be nice to have a few addition dough options(e.g., spicy, herb, etc…). Parking is often difficult to find during busy hours(e.g., Sunday during California Ave. Farmers Market hours, weekday lunch hours, etc…). Street parking is difficult to find, but there is a parking garage behind the building that usually has plenty of spaces on the second level. If you’re looking for a good, fast pizza that is actually better tasting than what you find at fast food restaurants, then you’ll love Pieology! *BONUS: The walls are decorated with quotes! Who doesn’t like to be inspired while eating a slice of pizza?

Good pizza but they need more staff! Line moves way too slow! Honestly, it’s nearly the same as pizza studio but with less crust choices but currently it’s $ 7.99 for a make your own pizza where pizza studio just raised theirs to $ 8.99. If they don’t increase the price post opening, I’ll keep going. If they do, I’d probably just go to studio down the block where I can get firecracker crust.

Solidly good. Better than Pizza Studio. It starts with great sauce and cheese and a perfectly blistered crust… Even without any toppings, this would be a very good pizza. But of course the whole point of this place is you can load it up with all the toppings you want for the same price(around $ 8). The staff happily piled on plenty of toppings and the end results for our family’s three very different pizzas were all very good. Veggies were fresh and cooked up perfectly. BTW we have tried Pieology in SoCal before and once waited an hour in line at the one in Fullerton! There was still no crowd at this new Palo Alto location even on Sat night but they’ve only been open a week and a half. May get busier when Stanford students get back. Good stuff, we’ll be back!

Looks like Cheesesteak shop and Free brds are both gone? Double whammy. Id been to Pieology in SJ a while back. It was pretty good so i was hoping for a repeat as i needed a quick lunch before errands. Pepperoni, bacon, sausage, artichoke hearts and black olives. Flavor was good but i think the crust could have used more time. It was a bit on the soft side towards the middle so it had problems holding the toppings there. Otherwise good quick meal if you want a pizza fix
