Price didn’t meet the quality. We had the chicken chalupas good but stingy on the meat. We also had the combination plate and had the same problem with the meat. Customer service was fair. Would of given 3 stars however poor air circulation. Would Not come back!

As of 5÷5÷12 the family business has closed! I have been coming here since BF and I started dating 2 years ago. His dad grew up coming here, so this was the default location for all family birthdays and occasions. It would not have been my first choice, and the restaurant was in dire need of some TLC, but the food was decent and service was always consistently good. Nothing can beat the location, but I’m sure it was tough on the family running this restaurant for so many years. It was just a sentimental place for BF’s dad’s side, and it grew on me too. They may reopen under new management… But despite the prime location, I think the whole plaza needs some love.

If you are looking for good Mexican food, value for your money or friendly service, this ISNOTTHEPLACE!!! I hope people won’t think that this is an authentic Mexican restaurant. First, the place was empty(now I know why) and we were greeted with long faces. The ceviche was fishy tasting(not fresh), the burrito was greasy over all, with unchewable meat and the worst: yellow cheddar cheese. If you ever see yellow cheese in Mexican food, it is not Mexican. Their salsa roja was disgusting, basically like spaghetti sauce with some wilt cilantro and a bit of chile in it, and then I asked for salsa verde and they charged me 2 dlls for a little bowl. They argued that«it is a side dish, it is on the menu». The other woman was nice enough to take that off my check, but our waitress was definitely rude about it and careless about everything else. Bad food, not Mexican, bad service, don’t go there.

I am stunned at the bad reviews this place has gotten. The staff was friendly, the place was clean and what a view!!! Our son has special dietary needs and they were so cool about it:) The food is good but the service and feel of the place was the best!!!

well aftr reading thru all the other reviews, I’ve finally decided to submit mine. I’ve lived in & around the area most of my life. My husband & I happened to be in the area 6 mos. or so ago & decided to try Playa. We were greeted by a friendly fellow who we’ve since come to know Reuben, *not sure of spelling*. He kindly explained certain menu item to us, example: I ordered enchilladas in mole;he asked if I had previously tried it or knew of it. I said yes so for me, it was as it should be. Others have harshly commented or judged the restaurant on its ‘dirty windows;-come on! are you serious, have you ever lived on the beach! The current owner’s name is Minerva. She’s always present when we are there. The restaurant isnt always packed full, but we’ve yet to be disappointed by ANY food we’ve eaten there. Our vet is in Pacifica, so we average stopping in 2 – 4 times a month. We brought one of our neighbors, who is a ‘picky eater to say the least;, and she thoroughly enjoyed her meals as well and would go back. So for those haters out there, or those who depend on reviews to opt whether or not to try somewhere, please consider stopping into Playa de Acapulco in Rockaway Beach, Pacifica & see Reuben & mention ‘Mark & Margie’s Unilocal review! thanks

I am not a tourist, I live in the City and I really like the food here. Yes, it is a different style than the taquerias in the city, which I also like. The mole was GREAT! Enchiladas were good too. I was there in January, and we had a gentleman waiting on us who was very pleasant, so I can’t say anything about the rude waitresses. This food is different than the usual style of taquerias in the City, maybe that’s why everyone hates it, I don’t know. I will go back and if it’s bad, I will update.

Upon leaving, I wondered how they afford the rent in this prime spot. I’ll have to second the other Unilocaler’s guess that its a front business. I can only hope the poor tourists from the hotels nearby heed the golden rule of taking a chance on a restaurant: If it’s empty, there’s a reason. You’ve been warned.

Funny, hubby, dad and I went there about 10 years ago and it was awful. I was thinking about giving it another try, but after reading the Unilocal reviews I decided against it. When we went, it was awful and tasted like frozen tv dinners(someone else said that!) Honestly, I TRULY think this place is a front for something else!

I feel funny reviewing this Restaurant. I’ve been eating here since I was a kid. My folks loved this restaurant and supported it their whole lives. I think the food is pretty good and it’s different than any other Mexican restaurant I’ve been to. The salsa is good. Small portions, but fairly cheap too. One of the gals, who I think is one of the owners knows me well and treats me nice. But for the most part, all of the other waitresses(who I think are all family) are pretty rude. And… A few weeks ago I guess I finally hit the wall. The last time I ate there one of the daughters was waiting tables(I think she was in her late 20s or early 30s). She was pissy, condescending, rude and very annoying in her cocky attitude. I did my usual best to act nice and appropriate but I felt like I was annoying here when I asked for more chips and salsa, or when I ordered a drink… and then once she brought the food, she disappeared. I thought about it the whole way home. I’m very divided in my feeling about this place. I love the locale. The Rockaway area is beautiful. The beach is gorgeous and the sunsets there are extraordinary… even when the sky is mostly foggy. I have many many wonderful memories of growing up around here and eating here. I’m just tired of the crappy attitude of the Employees. Edit 3−19−15 And it looks like I certainly wasn’t the only one tired of the attitude in this place. All gone now.

worst burrito of my life. I seriously felt like I was eating a bloated, drowned frog. How can a burrito be THAT bad??? :(

Waste of money. I wish I had read the reviews before setting foot in this place. HORRIBLE. The food was so bad that we didn’t even finish it. The food was so bad that we left the restaurant angry and hungry. We ended up going to eat somewhere else right after. Sad. The guacamole was like the kind you buy at costco and cost $ 6.00 for about ¾ cup. Actually that was the best part of the meal! The shrimp cocktail tasted like clamato with frozen shrimps dumped in it so it could pass for a cocktail. The ceviche tasted like sour lemon on stale tostadas. I mean really, like another Unilocaler said«you have to try real hard to suck this bad» and toni u. — I thought the same thing! LOL If you want good mexican food go to Los Pinos or La Morena on Baden in South San Francisco.

If I could give this restaurant a –5 stars I would, what a waste of space. I really wish they would just close and a palatable restaurant could then move in. It is empty because it sucks and locals know to just not even bother. I might as well throw my money right into the ocean instead. bad service, bad food, I can only wonder if they are a front for another business.

We decided to go in only after having gone to Nick’s which had a 45 minute wait. We were hungry so we decided on this place. There were only two other customers so that should have been a clue. If this was a good place it should have been packed on a Sunday afternoon. We were immediately told to sit anywhere we wanted. I ordered guacamole and a shrimp cocktail. When I received the guacamole it was more like a dip. avocado mixed with sour cream. I was very disappointed. The shrimp cocktail was ok, not great and the taco salad that my husband ordered had a very small amount of meat. Even the sprite that I ordered tasted bad. This was the worst Mexican Restaurant that I have ever gone to. Avoid! You’re better off going to Taco Bell as another Unilocaler stated previously.

Worst«Mexican» food in the Bay Area. The tourists staying at Rockaway Beach who don’t know any better are the only thing keeping this place afloat, as no local will come within 100 yards of the place. Even taco bell on Linda Mar beach is better, if you can believe that.

Small Mexican restaurant with an interesting display of animal-like statues against the wall. They are nestled among Nick’s Seashore Restaurant and Portofino’s Restaurant. Only locals would probably know about this place. Prices aren’t too shabby — combination dinners range from $ 6 to $ 8 to $ 10 a plate, choosing from a cheese and bean burrito, quesadillas, enchiladas, tacos, etc. They also have larger plates that are all less than $ 15 overall. Chips and salsa are also complimentary at the restaurant. Some of their specials definitely look a bit more interesting and tasty, but it works. They close early. On a Friday night, and the doors were shut at 8:30 pm. Service was decent. One or two waitstaff, and they are nice and courtesy despite our group of 12. They don’t serve margaritas(they are working on getting that license), but they do have wine and beer. We brought a cake and they provided plates and forks with no extra charge. They did add on a 15% tip, which was expected because of our large group. It’s simple, not fancy. When you want some Mexican food without all the sirens and bells, this will do it for you.
