It has great TVs for games, but the food is not great – don’t believe the bit about the pizza being worth the wait. I would definitely not recommend it for a younger clientele. Prices are reasonable, though you will walk out of there smelling like a deep fryer.

If you love being nickle and dimed to death this is the place for you! Food tasted fine but never have I been to a restaurant or bar that does not include garnish with burgers or dressing with salads. For someone who works in the industry I found it very odd that I was charged for one slice of tomato and a pickle for my burger. I can totally understand if I was charged for EXTRA of anything or something that was homemade that cost the owner more ex. blue cheese dressing, avocado, bacon but when I order a salad with ranch I guess I expected it to come with it. Not trying to sound cheap but was very taken aback by the charges.

The Wednesday open-faced roast beef lunch special($ 7.95) with drink($ 2.00) tasted great. The roast beef, potatoes, and gravy were top notch. The wait time was reasonable, while the service was attentive, and somewhat friendly. The price was on the high end of local pub specials, and higher than the price posted on their web site.

Pub food. I can envision the chef carefully placing the previously frozen meat Patty on the prep table, gently slicing open the package and rakishly tossing it onto the hot griddle. While that hamburger cooks, I can just see the chef reaching into the cooler, removing a bag of salad greens and artfully arranging them on a plate. Wait staff was nice and attentive. Unless you really just want to watch sports on the TV best to find a real restaurant.

If you’re coming here for drinks, I hope you’re drinking beer. The cocktails from this bar taste watered down and dingy like the sink water the glasses are washed in. They need to remodel the bar area but that would probably further contribute to watered down cocktails. MOST of the food is mediocre. DON’T order the French dip. It comes out on a big hoagie bun and it is what appears to actually be pot roast? Not what you’re hoping for. I was pretty irate the day I ordered that. Salads? Iceberg lettuce. That’s mighty early 90’s of them which I suppose would be consistent with the atmosphere and décor. My dad used to bring me here in the early 90’s when I was a kid and the place is exactly the same. Not a single update. I do recommend their steaks and taco Tuesday is great. We like to come in and order tacos, play darts, have a couple drinks and leave without spending much. It makes for a good little evening. Service here is definitely hit or miss. Most times we’ve had decent service but we’ve had a couple experiences with such slow/poor service that it probably keep us from frequenting this place more often because it is literally 5 minutes from our house.

Best place to grab some drinks and watch some games. The service is great and the food is fantastic. The $ 6 burger/fries lunch special is a great deal. Not to mention the 75 cent tacos. I would highly recommend this place to everyone.

One of those cases when mediocrity is worse than actual bad food. Service was slow, orders were sometimes incorrect, food was frankly uninteresting. Not much more to say. Were you thinking about coming here, I would keep scrolling.

This place is MUCH larger than it appears from the outside, so don’t be put off by all the cars out front(which are there also for another restaurant). The bar/casual restaurant food was around average, and the prices were decent. The service was good. I love garlic toast/bread, and was nicely surprised by theirs, which came with my meal instead of a ‘side’ order… although I ordered an extra side just in case some vampires were in range! :) This reminded me of a great neighborhood bar, almost like a Cheers without the sassy attitude. Just wish it was closer to my own neighborhood. Many televisions, and on this particular night, all tuned in to NCAA bball.

Nice variety of draft beers, but service when I stopped in on the evening of 11÷11÷13 was abysmal. There were three people at the bar and two tables occupied by couples — the barmaid was just not interested in serving her customers or asking how my meal was. The food was below average(just because chili is pronounced«chilly» doesn’t mean it’s supposed to be served cold) and I didn’t feel welcome nor my patronage appreciated. I will not be back. Bad service loses another customer.

I love Birdies! The lunch specials are great… for example, where else can you get a great Reuben sandwich with house made corned beef for only $ 6.95? The foo is superb and the service is fast and friendly!

Been going to Birdies for over 20years. If nothing, they have been unbelievably consistent despite ownership changes. This really is «The neighborhood bar». The food is better than any other bar food I have had anywhere in KC. The drink pours are better than most other places, not your typical 1 or 1.5 Oz pours. If you want a casual atmosphere and better than average food, this is the place. As for the reviews talking about poor service, there is some truth to that in that over the years, they have had occasional bouts of new servers who didn’t do a good job. I don’t know of any business that doesn’t. 99 times out of 100 though, we have found the wait and bar staff to be attentive, friendly, and on top of their game. We will be going for another 20 years.

My hubby and I stopped in for a drink and an appetizer. We spent 10 minutes in the place and were completely ignored. One waitress was walking around apparently unaware of us. It was like we were invisible. My hubby walked up to the bar and stood there for awhile. Finally the barmaid came down and took our drink order and said the waitress would be over to our table to take our food order. The barmaid went down to the other end of the bar and started talking and joking around with other patrons leaving my hubby standing there. We got fed up and left without anyone even caring. NEVERGOINGBACK! Rudest people ever!

Just spent 3 hours at Birdies at a Birthday party in their back event space. Great fun, very attentive servers, good bar food and a great selection of beverages. Had fun watching sports on the many televisions, playing pool and darts. The place isn’t much to look at but perfect for a local neighborhood establishment.

We all love our local neighborhood dive bars and Birdies fits this type of haunt. Sure, it’s outdated, the chairs at the bar could use some patching up or even replacement, the staff is very laid back and the crowd is usually highly intoxicated. Again, it’s a dive bar, so that’s what you should expect. The staff here is friendly, they have heavy hands when making pours plus they make you feel like you’re a regular even if you aren’t. The patio is a nice addition on the outside as well. Come get your drink on at a good price. Don’t worry about what you look like, chances are you’ll feel dressed up in jeans and a t-shirt.

I used to live right down the street from Birdies, and it was one of my favorite places for my friends and I to go for a cheap dinner, cold drinks, and good company. I almost always sat at the bar, so I can’t really comment on the table service, but the bartender/owner was always spot on. They have great specials during the week, and the regulars will keep you laughing. Their location is pretty convenient, just off I-35 on 75th Street, but you may pass it up if you’re not looking closely. If you reach Antioch you’ve gone too far, but make a right at Antioch & turn into Panera’s parking lot, and you can come around from the side.

I have been here 5 times. 1 good experience, 2 mediocre, and 2 complete jokes. I will say that the food is at a good price point. The 8 oz KC strip w/a salad and a side for $ 9.95 is probably the best deal on the menu(if you can actually get the baked potato, otherwise you have to settle for frozen fries or tater tots). 1st visit, I got waited on by the owner/manager(not sure which)…everything was on point, so I returned. The next time I couldn’t get a baked potato, I sat with an empty beer in front of me for most of the time, and I watched the bartender play with her phone most of the time. The 3rd visit was easy, but no baked potato. The 4th time I went in, the bartender not only didn’t greet me within 10 minutes, she was so busy blabbing about her personal life to a bar customer that she promptly greeted 2 people that came in after me, so I left completely aggravated believing that unless the owner waits on you, the service is a joke. I went back on xmas night. The KC strip was on the special board for $ 8.95. What a deal! I brought my family with me this time. We order 3KC strips, 2 med rare, 1 med well, and baked potatoes were available! Exciting right? WRONG! All 3 steaks came out burnt to a crisp and extra well done… not to mention the 30 minute ticket time. Then I noticed… only the steak was on the plate. The steaks sat in the window drying out for God knows how long waiting on the baked potato(which we never got). The service was actually ok, but the problems with the kitchen plagued our visit. How are you going to put a special on the board and completely miss the mark? How about the bloody mary served in a rocks glass? First day bartending? Or the ketchup bottle that was 90% empty and the half empty salt & pepper shakers? I am relieved to say that I never ventured into the bathrooms, or I am sure my review would have plummeted to 1 star and morphed into an onslaught of choice curse words. I say this, because if they don’t refill or wipe the condiments, I can pretty sure guarantee you they don’t work wonders in the bathroom cleaning department. Oh yeah… I forgot to mention the french dip. A french dip is shaved beef, preferably prime rib. What I saw looked like left over beef brisket. WTF? This place is too inconsistent for me to give it any more chances. The value is only good if the quality surpasses the expectation of the pricing. Birdie’s is a gross, unmaintained disaster. They can kiss my business goodbye.

A good place to watch a KU game. One of the Saturday drink special is $ 2 domestic draw — check, the Irish is a decent price — check and the food is tasty — check. The bartender was attentive. She was able to handle the regulars and the newbies with ease. Kudos to her! The prime rib sandwich with fries special was pretty dang good. The bread was unexpectedly garlic toasted which added to the meat seasoning. Personally the fries were under fried and needed more salt. But with tons of mustard on the side they were fine. It’s not super close to my house. But with the above listed marked off my sports bar checklist I will probably stop back by to watch a game.

I have been looking for a local spot to drink and eat and maybe get crazy on some darts. You know, that one bar that you and your friends can always count on for good service and a good stinkin time? This may be the place. The food was decent. I had some cheeseburger sliders that were pretty tasty and the drink specials are good. We went on a weeknight, and don’t ask me which one, but they had Mexican bottles for $ 3. Not too shabby. The service docked them a star. Our server was in snail mode. God, she just took her sweet ass time with everything and my boyfriend sat with an empty glass for about 10 minutes. Then we both sat and waited for our check for a good little while after we were finished. Hello, don’t you know we’re ready to leave when we’re done eating and not ordering any more drinks? Oh well, will give it another try soon.

I meet a buddy here for lunch from time to time so this is really just my lunch time experiences. I usually get the taco special(75 cents each) and they’re good. Last time I got the chicken fingers. Worst ever. I think the cook was a little inexperienced that day so I’ll cut them some slack since the tacos and fries have always been good. Atmosphere is dark. It’s probably fine for evening, but for lunch time it’s a little bit of a downer. I know people that eat there a lot for lunch and dinner, and they love it, for whatever that’s worth. Overall, the food and price are good, and the servers are solid.

Been there 3 times now and Paula seems to really have a lot of desire to run this place well. The first night in I had the filet and NY cheesecake for dinner. The cheesecake was NOT infused with refer funk like it is in most places. Steak was your average«wrapped in bacon» variety. it was cooked as ordered(MR). I was pleased that they had Woodford for my Manhattan but suspect there were no bitters added. Overall, the place is still at a bargain pricepoint. I stopped in on the next day for some to-go orders and was shocked that there is a 30c surchage on each to-go item. The items themselves were of good quality: CX quesadillas and wings. IMO this practice alienates those who would potentially order take-out on regular basis(me). My third experience involved a seat at a table(in lieu of the bar) where my Manhattan was served without a cherry, the salad was clearly the pre-shredded product from a food service company – HOWEVER – I feel that the attempted flavor combination worked: red onion, ham, mushrooms, & Italian dressing. My recommendation is to add sliced heirloom tomatoes with bacon and boiled egg – like a Cobb but not use the food service shredded material. Consider spinach, nuts and arugula for this product(chopped in house). Kudos to you for stocking Woodford; perhaps consider stocking a higher level beef – or maybe your demographic doesn’t demand that excess? However, I would recommend eliminating the 30c surcharge for any to-go items. We all feel like we are being nickeled and dimed as a matter of course – I don’t think that you want to be known as a nickel and dime establishment.
