Kyle was such a big help to me this weekend at the SW Paint Store on Broadway. I came in with some other paint names from other paint lines and he was able to find them and produce samples for me.
He was so customer focused, he’s won all my paint business!

Reviewing a paint store seems a little weird. I mean, I’ve reviewed a sundial and a certain bicycling event scheduled for maximum disruption… but for some reason, this feels beyond the pale. How could one paint store be much different than another?
But this one is different. Because the store manager is awesome. She’s a total pro, friendly, helpful… If I owned a business, I’d want her to run it.
And thanks to living in Victorian fixers for most of my life, I have been to MANY paint stores over the years and have experienced plenty of snickering and eye rolls from paint store employees who prefer to service painting contractors and think my questions are stupid. So I think this place is pretty special, and if you need some paint, you should check it out.

If you’re considering going to the Home Depot in Emeryville for your paint needs, DON’T. You’ll regret it. Come here instead and have people who actually know what they’re doing helping you.

We are new home owners and have a list of home renovations that we are doing on our own. We’ve been to this store multiple times over the past month and have been impressed by Natalie and the other SW staff. They’ve been friendly, honest, and extremely helpful. They don’t try to up sell us on products and have been coaching us on fixing our bathroom ceiling that’s peeling and needs some special paint to prevent mildew. We’ve been very impressed to date and love having them so close by.

Great business hours, free parking, tons of color chips and brochures. Unfortunately, the service is poor to awful. I ordered about 25 gallons of paint in 7 colors and three finishes: satin, semi-​gloss and gloss. Any other paint store in town, including Home Depot, would have had the order completed in 24 hours, at the longest. It’s been a week and my order has yet to be filled. Fortunately, I am doing my own work, but the folks at S-​W didn’t know this. If I had hired a painter for this job, he/​she would never have been able to wait that long for the order to be ready, and I would have lost my place in their schedule. This store is going to have to improve their service or they won’t last long in the East Bay; there are too many other, more competent businesses from which to choose.

The worst. Went there during their infrequent «sale». Only one person working in the store despite obvious increase in business during that time. Gave salesperson a list of what I wanted and said my painter would pick it up the next day. «No problem» she said. She gave me a receipt that was only for the total of my order; no breakdown as to what I was buying. Cost was almost $ 500 so this wasn’t a small order. I insisted on a receipt with a breakdown of my purchase. The «sale» price was about the same as Benjamin Moore’s regular price. My painter called the next day to say that when he picked up the paint, there was no primer included. That had been on the list that I handed to the salesperson but she left it off. Good thing I had the itemized list of my purchase or I wouldn’t have known whether I’d paid for it or not. Later my painter opened the 5 gallon can of paint and discovered that the color had been added to the can but not mixed. He had to take it back to the store to get it mixed in. What kind of way is this to do business?

This is a new SW Store. First visit has been a very good
experience. Natalie (Manager) is great at handling walk in
customers and at the same time checking to see how I was
doing with color selection overload. Easy Parking, great
hours and nice new showroom.
