And in your defense you’re going to post my reaction from YOU giving me shitty customer service, being rude, impolite not to mention eavesdropping and articulating wrong information which causes you to AGAIN be rude, impolite in result to my friend and I receiving terrible customer service. In addition, to me stating my point of view on what happened you message me and state you’re going to give me 24hr to take down a post on a site that gives you reviews and which mine is true; I smell blackmail…

Probably a great place to drink, sing karaōke, or watch a game, but the food and service was pretty lousy.

This place used to be one of the best new bars in Oakland. But upon the last few visits it has lost all its charm. It is now just a place to sit and drink, with a little bit of country décor and some country music playing. Dance floor is mostly empty. Food is basic bar food. The vibe is dull and unfriendly. Too bad, because this place used to be a warm, fun place to get your country on.

This isn’t a country bar. It’s a bar that happens to have a jukebox with country music. Meh. At least Jason kicks ass and knows customer service and how to help you enjoy yourself, and not let the owner who thinks making the place country means walking around in a cowboy hat, ruin your night when he is literally surly and will cut off a customer when they are in the middle of ordering so he can interrupt about something that really could have waited. Really dude? The customer in front of you, filling your cash drawer, is more important than literally anything you have to say. You can wait five seconds. Idiot. And running out of almost everything on the menu as well as the food being way not country or southern? SMH

This is hands down the coolest spot in the bay. lets start with the food. GOODGOD the food, always something special from the smoker that will just make you melt. honest to god i have never heard of having fried pickles before i started going to overland and now i get them almost every time i go. plus they are always quick and get your order just the way you like it. they want to make sure you’re happy. the bartenders are all so friendly and happy to say hello! but not just the bar tenders, but the regulars and the rest of the staff are always happy to see people come in and spend time with everyone. then finally there is the attraction of dancing, live music and karaōke! how much better can this place get?! 10OUTOF10YOUNEEDTOCHECKTHISPLACEOUT!

So I’ll preface this by saying this bar makes me nostalgic for something I never realized I would miss. The standard sports bar in the south(I am from South Carolina). It’s a chill, unpretentious, relatively inexpensive and pretty rad for watching warriors games(there are a bunch of hd tvs and they usually leave the sound on for games.) The staff is always super friendly(especially Paul!) and there’s usually some type of pretty good food/drink special for each night of the week. Always a solid hang

Yeehaw! This newish country bar has lots of drinks and food. It’s a no frills, seat yourself and order at the counter or bar type of place. We ordered some fries to share and they were pretty good. I thought the garlic fries were slightly better than the loaded ones. They also have line dancing lessons and bands playing on Saturday night. I don’t think there is a cover but don’t quote me on that. The owner came by to give us the scoop on the events. Prices are pretty reasonable for the area. It’s definitely one of the better country bars I’ve been to… I have only been to a few but I like this one out of the ones I have checked out. I would come back if I were in the area but I wouldn’t seek it out.

I thought I’d have my first country bar experience when I was late in Texas visiting family, but as it turned out, I had it much closer to home. Here in Oakland of all places! East Bay’s fabulous Unilocaltern Sierra held a UYE here, and since the word«whiskey» happened to be mentioned, we just had to go. I was a little late to the party, so the Line Dancing lesson had started by the time I got there. Saw my husband and familiar faces at the bar when I arrived. Soon, I had a Whiskey Sour in my hand and a generous basket of Pulled Pork Fries to share with fellow Unilocalers. The Whiskey Sour was not bad and price was right – $ 8. The Pulled Pork fries were good, though a little unctuous, and a tad spicy. This is a friendly bar! The two female bartenders manning the bar were very nice. People in suits and jeans were having a good time drinking and chatting. The dance floor got quite crowded with line dancers. Christine R’s husband eventually got to the dance floor to show off his expert dance moves. And of course, Sierra too! So if you’re into line dancing or just need a friendly bar to patronize in the Jack London Square area, then giddy-up on up to Overland!

Update on January 29, 2016: Whoa — this place is going to be wildly successful! I had a UYE here last night. When I arrived the place was pretty full and lively. There were suits, cowboy boots, hipsters… everything just like Oakland. I grabbed a seat at the bar and met some awesome Unilocalers. We had some draaaanks, bites, and then got ready to boot scoot boogie! #yeehaw Lisa teaches the line dance lessons and she’s PHENOMENAL. She’s patient and goes through the steps well. She stars off with reviewing the dance learned last week then teaches at least one new dance. I like this because it lets new people learn and for regulars, they can continue their line dancing knowledge. Last night we learned the Canadian Stomp and Alan Jackson’s, «Country Boy,» as well as Slappin Leather(I think… had to sit out for one). The drinks were stiff with JD and Sailor Jerry as a special. I had a bacon cheeseburger with French fries and some beer because, Murica. I can’t wait to go back and learn more dances! Line dance lessons are Thursday and Friday nights starting at 8:30. Bring some friends and just let loose! Previous review: Located right at the beginning of JLS, I think that this place has a lot of potential. As a lover of line dancing and country music, I think it’s awesome that Oakland has a genuine country bar! Like, it’s about time. I went on the Friday after Thanksgiving and the place was truly dead. I kind of felt bad for the people working because they were fully staffed and ready to work. There’s a small dance floor in the back of the bar with some booths along the side, stools in the middle, and of course the bar. The staff was friendly. They came to talk with my two friends and I a few times and made solid drinks. I would love to see this place do well as its hit an area that is underserved/under represented in the East Bay(the country music scene). I’ll go back and hopefully it will be busier so I can give an updated review of what it’s actually like but for now, three stars. Nothing horrible and nothing that was above and beyond.

The day after Christmas, we were looking to get out of San Francisco for a little quiet time. My boyfriend decided we should cross the bridge to Oakland and try out this new spot he heard about. Upon walking in I was super excited to see the country-esk décor with a wooden bar, checkered table cloths and an American Flag. We sat at the bar and were greeted by a nice bartender. We saw a sign about $ 8 bloody mary’s and jumped all over that. The menu is full of Pulled Pork delights and we ordered up some Garth Fries and a Pulled Pork Sandwich. Garth Fries: MASSIVE basket of really good french fries, topped with some really tender pulled pork, cheese and sweet/tangy BBQ sauce. Pulled Pork Sandwich: Tender pulled pork piled high on a toasted bun, topped with their BBQ sauce and a fresh, lightly dresses slaw. They opened only 8 months ago and are working on getting a house band. We were informed they do line dancing lessons. I hope to make it out for that! I could absolutely some back to Oakland for this joint.

This place has some good @ss food… Ive been by several times and never really considered coming in. Today we had plans to do brunch by the lake, but the place we went to had most of their seating outside and it was not equipped for rainy weather. Thank god, otherwise I would not have eaten here. I ordered the cheddar/bacon stuffed burger with buttery garlic fries. The meal was nothing less than a good oakland«Hella Good». The inside of this place is nothing special, but the food and service was pretty kick ass today and will have me coming back. After having the Cheddar/Bacon stuffed burger Im a fan of their burgers like Ive known of them since birth. Lol I also ordered the bottomless Mimosa for 15 and because of all the deelish food and how the Minosa was made, I only had room for 2 mimosas! I just knew I was gonna down 6 of those lovely orange flavored things, but the cup size given was equal to two mimosa in comparison to other places with bottomless mimosa specials. You order and pay for your food with the cashier and then they bring your food to the table. I didnt think there would be too much to customer service as the hostess was only to bring the food to our table. The hostess was still very attentive considering they didnt have to take orders and the silverware/utensils were available for self service. I will be back and I would absolutley refer someone here. Cheers to Mimosa & Burgers!

My friends and I came to this place for brunch on a whim. Turns out it was a good whim. The menu was nothing fancy but everyone in my group found something. I ordered the Bacon and cheddar Stuffed Burger with fries and bottomless mimosas. They didn’t ask how I wanted the Burger done but it came out done perfectly. I was satifmsfied with the Burger and fries. I made it through two of the mimosas which were served in glass cups so they were nice in size. They were made strong and the champagne was not the super cheap headach inducing stuff that some other places will serve. Another person in my group got the breakfast burrito which turned out to be a giant. The burrito came stuffed with bacon, eggs, cheddar, onions and spinach. The place was not packed and loud like many of the brunch spots can be. There were large screen tv’s on the walls around the interior. With today being Sunday they were playing sports. The service was very friendly and attentive. I typically leave left overs after eating out but I cleared my plate this time. I will surely be coming back for more.

CALLINGALLCOUNTRYMUSICFANS! My friend and I came here out of mutual love for country music, beer, and all things BBQ. It was a Wednesday night(50 cent wings) so we ordered a few beers on tap from their happy hour menu along with some food. My friend got a basket full of buffalo wings while I enjoyed my juicy pulled pork sandwich. I also got the fried pickles, which were a little too battered for my preference but still good. Overland has a variety of happenings throughout the week… line dancing, country karaōke, trivia night, bingo, and even stand up comedy. I would come here WAY more often if I didn’t live in San Francisco, but it’s worth the trek every time. The wait staff is nice and the vibe is so upbeat! Excellent country music selection. This is like a Bay Area dream come true. I look forward to all my future visits here!

This review is solely based on the food. I recognize that this place is a bar and not a restaurant, but for those of you who are curious about their Taco Tuesday, I would skip. The tacos are $ 2 each. A decent sized order would have three. However, the tacos were pretty blah and soggy. The garlic fries were greasy and delicious, though. I’ll likely go back for Bingo night or karaōke, but I won’t be back for Taco Tuesday.

It’s a neat spot to hangout near Jack London Square. Grab a menu, find a seat at a bar or at one of the booths, watch whatever game is on, and listen to the country music playing in the background. Frozen margaritas were good! Lots of sugar to disguise the alcohol but a bit too sour towards the end. The hank fries with the pulled pork was yummy. I have yet to meet fries I did not like: P I’d skip the fried chicken sandwich. The chicken looked more grilled than fried and it was really dry. There was so much cole slaw in the sandwich. I’m not a big fan of cole slaw and this one had lots of mayo.

I’m not a huge fan of country music, but I was willing to give Overland a try! We sat at the bar and I saw a sign for frozen margaritas for $ 6, sounds good to me! It came in a cute mason jar which I loved! The drink itself wasn’t very strong, but it was tasty. The guys I were with got beers and another got the apple pie moonshine with ginger beer, interesting taste. We also got a basket of fries to munch on, good portion and tasty. Service was very friendly! The country music that they played wasn’t tooooooo country(the whiny kind… lol again I’m biased) so I didn’t mind it! Worth checking out if you’re in the area. Prices are reasonable!

Came here hungry around 4pm on a Friday. They had happy hour drinks. It’ll be nice to have happy hour food too but they don’t. The food menu prices were actually decent and at a great price. Affordable. Small menu. My husband had the pulled pork sandwich. Too much sauce with little pulled pork. It’s like eating sauce on bread: o/…he said it was ok. Had better. I had the hot beef link sausage sandwich. It came naked with sausage & bun only. No onions? Which is my favorite when eating with hot dogs, hamburgers or sausages. No tomatoes or relish. Nothing. Looked sad. Squirted ketchup & mustard. Still dry. However, the beef link itself was tasty. I also ordered a side of sweet tater fries. That was very good. And a good portion size. I probably won’t be back for the food. Would definitely stick to the sweet tater fries. Next time, I will try their drinks. The frozen margarita looks good. Country music in the background. Plenty of tv’s to watch sports. The woman bartender was very nice & friendly. Fast service. The interior feels very homey. Nice comfortable booths.

The city of Oakland is pretty laid back. Therefore going to Old Oakland’s newest country-style restaurant/bar, wearing a cowboy hat, boots and chaps are not pre-requisite attires. All you need is casual attire and the love for country hospitality. As I walked in to the restaurant, I was playing Clint Eastwood’s «The Good, The Bad and The Ugly» theme song entrance on my phone. This place definitely has the country and western ambiance. And as I was portraying a cowboy, I seated my ass at the bar. And the cool bartender asked me for a drink. I ordered an iced-cold bottle of Bud light for $ 3.50. There are other bottled beers and beers on tap with ten to choose. I also ordered dinner from the bar too. I had the Fried Chicken Sandwich. For $ 8.00, the sandwich has boneless chicken piece with a Panko bread crumb coating, a tangy scoop of cole slaw and a drizzle of Aioli sauce in a hoagie roll. The chicken pieces were very crunchy and all the ingredients blend in very well combine. For an additional $ 2.00, fries are included with the meal. This is a very affordable meal. As I was enjoying my meal, I was watching the lousy the Sunday night baseball game. I was also listening to classic country music from George Strait. The country music is a nice switch from my usual hip-hop and urban jam! I was also checking out the margarita machine and pizza from the kitchen; definitely will check out on my next visit. This is a very fun place to dine and check out in Jack London Square.

I may have just found my new watering hole in Oakland. Went there by chance their opening night to watch the A’s game and had a grand old time. The place is a little small compared to other country bar’s(saddle rack) but had just the right amount of room for a bar, booth and table seating, dance floor, and stage for a band. Food and drinks were CHEAP! I kept on commenting on where else I could find a $ 7 gourmet burger or $ 4 fries anywhere in the bay area these days. We opted for the sweet potato fries with Bacon aioli which was more than enough fries to make a meal. They also had a cider on tap and shots of Dixie Moonshine :) Also, pretty much everyone in the house had either a cowboy hat or shoes on, which made me feel like yes, this is a country bar. There was a live band playing and horses stationed outside(I’m told this was a one time deal since it was their opening night). The band was great and played a lot of cover songs I surprising knew. I can’t wait to go back for some line dancing! Yeehaw! Happy Hour 4 – 7

Let’s raise a glass to the first Country & Western Bar in the city of Oakland! I have high hopes for this new venture on the corner of Broadway and Embarcadero West in the old Centouno Italian Restaurant. Named after the Overland House, one of Jack London’s favorite saloons that once resided in that same building and run by friends Steven & Paul, Overland has the potential to become one of the best gathering spots in one of the many up and coming areas of Oakland. Just by attending a recent soft opening/private party, I could feel that passion from the owners. Overland’s goal is to be an East Bay destination for the country music line-dancing loving crowd. And they have a good foundation in which to start that goal. They’re going to open very soon and Paul tells me the goal is to sell traditional Texas sized meals and other classic bar items. With the goal of dinner, lunch, and eventually brunch, they could be well on their way. For now, all I can say is that they have one mean frozen margarita spitting out from an actual 7 – 11 slurpee style machine into quaint little mason jars. A completely refinished full bar awaits, alongside newly completed side counters and stools so you don’t have to stand when the place is packed. There is also an elevated platform where line dancers can shake their buns off with a stage that lowers down so live bluegrass bands can entertain the masses. When the stage is raised, a huge television screen will greet sports lovers on game night. This place has real potential for sports, dancing, and music fans alike. With tasty food and great spirits on the way, I have nothing but hope for Overland. I can’t wait to return when burgers, chili and a great brunch is served on their dining menu. Oakland needs places like this, I’m glad they finally have it.
