I started eating at Angelo’s Chicago taste at the Hazelwood location right across from Boeing when I worked as a contractor at its helpdesk. This location is right off of Highway K. The person at the counter was pretty nice, and being athletic certainly helps. He looked like he could suffice as an underwear model, not as a guy that makes gyros. The ambiance is a bet more updated than the location of Hazelwood and has a very homey atmosphere. There are placards of bible verses everywhere. You can definitely tell that this is a religious restaurant. However, I was a bit disappointed in the way they are making their gyros. They do not put as much lettuce and tzatziki sauce on the gyro and the presentation of the gyro was just a bit sloppy to me. I may come back every once in a while, but not so much as before.

Wanted to grab lunch and chose this place because of reviews. Not disappointed, we both had the beef Gyros. Crispy and well seasoned, so tasty. Very friendly owner who was serving one minute and then out talking to customers the next.

The Gyros are oh so good. I also like the Chicken gyros. This is a good place for lunch. The fries are just okay.

My quick run down: Got the Italian beef with sausage, dipped. Yum! Big sandwich, lots of beef, nice spicy Italian sausage under the beef, tasty dip that got it good and wet but still didn’t fall all apart on me. Wife got the Chicago dog. Said it was really good. I didn’t eat it, so I’ll have to take her word for it. It looked pretty tasty though — nice presentation, at least. Fries — their one miss. These seemed like just bland frozen fries. Too bad. Nice environment inside. Clean, roomy, relaxing.

I’m a Chicagoan who lives in St. Louis. Yep, sat in the stands for every home game the ’85 Bears played. I went to over 300 Sox games but NEVER paid a dime to see the scrubbies play. My first job was selling newspapers at the corner of Randolph & Michigan. Suffice to say… I’m a Chicagoan. Unfortunately this place just doesn’t offer a real taste of the Chicago food that I remember eating over the 30 years I lived there or on my frequent trips back. I really, really wanted to love this place but just didn’t. As kid 1 says: «it makes me sad.» The flavor of the beef was flat and would have been pretty bland had it not been for the peppers… both sweet and hot. They use a popular brand of gyros(Olympia) but didn’t get the slight crispyness on the carved strips that really makes the flavor pop. The pita bread was grilled on the flat-top a little but wound up being too chewy. Also, the baklava was soggy on the bottom as if they didn’t turn stock fast enough to offer a really fresh and crispy pastry. I’m sad. Maybe I’ll go see Steve who runs the hot dog cart at the Home Depot on THF for a decent gyros tomorrow. That would certainly make me feel better. Maybe he will even have a batch of the Portillo’s beef he imports. That would certainly make me happy!

Great food. Must haves our the Gyro platter(it will feed 3 — 4) and try the buffalo chicken pizza or the Gyro pizza, both are excellent.

I have had Italian beef in Chicago many times, and I do think that the one I had at Angelo’s is the best I’ve ever tasted. I know that sounds crazy, but it’s true! The sandwich was HUGE, the bun was soft, the beef was plentiful and tender, the peppers were perfect, and the sauce… well, it was hearty and had just the right amount of spices. I inhaled this sandwich. That being said, the fries were ho-hum. I had hoped for crinkle fries, which would have been the right thing to serve with Chicago Italian beef, but they were plain, bland, small fries. Then again, you can get good fries anywhere — but outside of Chicago, the only place to get Italian beef this good is Angelo’s. Bottom line: get the big beef, skip the small fries!

Went here a couple weeks ago and ate the beef n cheddar with fries. The roll was nice and crispy which held the juicy large amount of beef with melted cheddar. It was very tasty and filling. I will be going back to try other menu items.

I have never had anything but the Gyro here, but really what else do you need? It is the best in the area(the only one I am convinced actually comes off a spit rather than being grilled to order). I have always ordered takeout from this place, the décor is a little strange and they don’t serve alcohol. If they did though, I could see this being a great place to eat in. All in all, if you I am in the O’ fallon/St. Charles area and craving a Gyro, this is the only place I would go.

We walked in on Tuesday not knowing really what to expect, but we are sure glad we tried this place out! Upon talking to the counter guy(who turned out to be Angelo himself), we decided to order a few things and share. The gyro was probably the best tasting I’ve ever had, and if you like sausge(which they ground and case themselvse) and itialian beef, you’ll love this place. It was the good kind of spicy. We also got a small cheese pizza(I know, we’re gluttons), and the sauce(homemade) was very tasty, as was the mozzerella. We were told that they make a lot of their items from scratch, and you can definately taste it in their yummy food. We will be going back for more really soon!

Great Gyros. Enough to feed two adults and a big kid. I was happy to see an Angelo’s open up out west. I frequent the one near the airport too. The gyro platter is a great deal for feeding a small family. I have not had table service, but the staff is always friendly, and the food is great. DD had a buffalo chicken pizza and it was very good. Yes, their pizza is not Chicago style deep dish. Restaurant is clean, and there are TV’s with news or sports on. Great break from a burger chain.

I come from the south side of Chicago and had my share of Chicago food(such as Italian beef, gyros, chicago style pizza). This restaurant was hugely a disappointment. I ordered an Italian beef sandwich and asked for it wet. It was very dry. It looked like someone did a dash of juice onto it. Anyone from Chicago knows that it traditionally gets dipped, sandwich bread and meat directly into the juice when it’s ordered wet. The fries were mediocre and an insanely small portion, and had nothing make it stand out. Now for the service: It was lunchtime, but it should not take 40 minutes to get me on my way… not for an Italian beef sandwich and fries. In addition, I noticed that people that ordered after me for similar items were being served first. I don’t think they noticed I was standing there… for more than half an hour. Summary: If you enjoy Chicago food and want it taste good without being forgotten… go somewhere else.

My wife and I had lunch here and I had a Gyro and she had a Philly. The Gyro was OK, my wife’s Philly had lettuce and tomato on it.strange. Not a bad place, just not my cup of tea so to speak.

Let’s start with the simple stuff first, don’t say Chicago style if you don’t have Chicago style pizza! The menu is vague and doesn’t offer any description of the menu items. Yes, gyro, Italian beef doesn’t need to be described unless it’s not traditional which the philly cheese steak is not. Lettuce and tomatoes on a philly is WRONG! Who wants soggy lettuce? As for the Angelo pizza its a handtossed pizza with canned sauce with too much ground pepper. The cheese blend is tasteless and too much. The salad comes with shredded lettuce and chopped lettuce and the dressing is very bland almost has a watered down taste. The service is a guessing game and the person running food doesn’t even know what they were bringing out. We’ve seen this location change names too many times, hire a consultant to help you make things right or your not going to survive at this location. I hate being brutally honest but I want to see small business’ succeed!

I was excited to try this location after seeing the menu. I ordered the gyro with fries and a drink. The gyro was quite good, though I would have liked the tzatziki sauce to have been on top of the meat and toppings. There is a ton a meat on the gyro and the amount of cheese and onion was perfect. I was disappointed with the fries-standard concession stand variety killed the momentum of the meal. I would love to see at least some crinkle-cut fries or other choices. The whole meal cost me close to $ 9 which is alright with me.

Have come in a couple of times for the Gyro plate. Tons of meat, enough for 2 – 3 people. Order extra bread/pita and enjoy a few meals. Want to try some other items, but I just love the Gyro so much.

I went to high school in the Chicago suburbs and frequented many of the local burger/hotdog/sandwich joints. I really missed these type of restaurants when I moved to the St. Louis area so I was excited when my father in law(who grew up in Chicago) raved about Angelo’s. The wife and I just checked it out and we really enjoyed it. I had the Italian Beef and it was fantastic. The beef was well seasoned, the roll was soft and held the juice well, and the giardiniera was good. My wife had the Gyro and it was very good as well(fresh veggies, warm pita, good sauce, and great lamb). They also do burgers, chicago hot dogs, fries, pizza, ect. The couple next to us got a pizza and it looked very good. This is a family owned restaurant and they have one other location in Hazelwood. It’s located in a nice retail center and they did a good job in the interior finishes. They also deliver. Closed on Sundays. We will definitely return soon.
