A very nice rum island themed restaurant with a menu to suit everyone from carnivore to vegan. Located in the Garden District on a nice block with other restaurants and shops. The service was good, prices were very reasonable and the music groovy. Thumbs up.

Delicious! Very casual and laid back, which was nice. Ordered the Key Lime Coconut Rum Punch which was delicious. I also got the Taco Trifecta, which came with three tacos and a salad(small upcharge for the salad instead of another side). I got the pork mole, seared scallop, and crispy fish tacos. None were outstanding, though all were done well. The Cesar salad was delicious, and the croutons they used were quite good.

One of my favorite places in town! Last time we went we had the jerk fish plate, it was seasoned and cooked to perfection. They offer many Caribbean rums, and they have great signature drinks, like rum punches and pina coladas, and mojitos

Best taco tuesday of all time. $ 2 per taco, even if you ordered one of each itd only be $ 30(that’s a lot of tacos) liked every taco(we ordered 6 and shared) except I thought the flavor of the scallop one was a little weird. Also had a bloody Mary and it was perfect.

Sometimes you get the most pleasure from simple food. The Rum House excels in this. This is one of those restaurants that’s so much fun that the food takes a back a seat. We had a big plate of nachos with all the fillings. I also had some delicious bite sized tacos and cornbread stuffing YUMYUM

Popular for sure and now I know why. They have a really cool menu with something for everyone and every level of appetite. You can get soup and salad or just some snacks or a taco or you can get a full on entrée. I had a couple tacos with a couple sides. The two dat! I had an oyster taco and a pork mole taco. Both were really good and a bit different than you’d get anywhere. They tweak all these tacos for sure. I had a side of black beans and some smothered greens. I like them both as well. The black beans were a little spicy for me but I liked the flavors. I didn’t love the greens. Beet greens? Something different about them. They’re ok but I would order something else next time. I will be back to try more soon. We showed up for happy hour and ordered the $ 5 painkiller. Delicious rum, coconut and pineapple frozen drink that packed a punch. These go down way too easily.

I’m happy to have this as one of my new neighborhood spots. I have a feeling I’ll be going back often. We decided to head over for happy hour and take advantage of their signature drink, The Painkiller(basically a daiquiri with nutmeg garnish) for a reasonable $ 5. It was delicious. I opted for a couple of tacos since I wasn’t hungry enough for a full dinner, and chose the jerk chicken with mango salsa and the grilled shrimp with black beans. Both were very good, with the shrimp taco being a real standout. I’m kind of craving one right now, in fact. I skipped the sides but sampled hubby’s black beans and greens, and both were yummy. The laid back, casual island vibe is fun, and I’ll take advantage of the outdoor seating along Magazine St. in warmer weather.

Tried this place on a recent visit to NOLA. Their Bloody Mary made with Rum was delicious. Also tried their pulled pork nachos appetizer. Delicious, juicy pork and plenty to share with 3 — 4 diners. On our visit at lunch time they were packed with a half hour to hour wait. We opted to sit outside(chilly day so very few were risking it) where they have heaters over the picnic tables. Enjoyed our visit to this locale and definitely would go back again.

Great restaraunt on magazine street. There were five of us and the wait was short and Austin did a great job with the service. We started with some great nachos and had everything from the tacos to ribs to a seafood pepper pot. Definitely a place to check out on a trip here or if you live in the area

Went on a Sunday and I can truly say they have one of the best beer and food selections on Magazine.

Apparently they opened in 2009, now focusing on what they do best. From our Dec. visit I’d say tacos, nachos and rum drinks. On busy Magazine St., they’re schlepping out food in phenomenal quantities. During our short wait for a table(via handheld buzzer pad) we saw nachos being served, you must see in their pix. I’d say a serving would squelch the hunger of 6 – 8 people! They looked really good. Obviously if we had to wait, it’s very busy. TVs everywhere, the bar packed & tourists in wait. The rum drink list may be longer than their menu. Rum flights. Lots of beer, margaritas. Quite loud w/a big menu. Wines offered, pedestrian w/way more red. $ 8 an glass. $ 24 — $ 29 a bottle, w/a couple higher. But you’re not here for wine. Happy hour offered on weekdays. Cool, nice but busy waitstaff amidst the loud clamor. We ordered Two Dat: 2 street tacos w/sides. Perfect afternoon snack. Hubby had his with coleslaw and sweet potato chips. My 2 were Mac/cheese and plantains. I loved his chips although it was a sparse serving. He loved the sweet/sour of the fried plantains. Brisket tacos and jerk chicken with mango salsa, simply awesome. They’re actually street tacos; small, soft corn tortillas. Sides: the spicy coleslaw was refreshing w/a bite. The Mac/cheese was recommended. One word: don’t. It’s too garlicky, too spicy. Mine was dry. All served on 70’s, 80’s blue tin plates. I imagine this would be a fun place to hang out.

The Best description of The Rum House is definitely, «Irie Mon»! If you’re from out of town and looking for a change then this is the spot. Laid back BUT still Big Easy. The noisy chatter of the patrons compliment the divey ambiance. I’m always trying a new taco(Taco Tuesdays). The reggae music and colorful walls are at the right level and puts all in a cheerful mood. After eating walk it off along Magazine Street’s antique shops. Finally, My Long Island Ice Teas and Rum Runners are always perfect!

GREAT service and great food. Was visiting New Orleans for the weekend and I think this spot was the best service of the whole trip, super friendly server and on point with filling our drinks. Started with the salsa and queso SO delicious and flavorful. Next got a salad, super delicious(they were out of mahi so got the tuna instead) and some tacos with Mac and cheese. Mac and cheese super delicious I would 100% recommend coming here !!!

I was given the recommendation to come here by a local friend. Recommendations are the way to go when choosing a restaurant in Nola since there are so many to choose from. I love the creole cajun food, but it was nice to have something a little different. These are not your ordinary tacos. I ordered one Oyster taco and one Chopped Shrimp taco. Oysters on tacos sound a little out of place, but this was AMAZING! The oysters were deep fried in a savory batter with a super tasty sauce. The Chopped Shrimp was equally as amazing. If you like some spice on your taco, order this one! Coming to The Rum House also allowed me to explore a different area of Nola, Magazine Street. After eating it’s fun to explore all the shops in this area!

I’m updating my review from 2010. I’ve dined here three times in the last year and have always come in the middle of the day during the week, and I’m always amazed at how busy this place is! Although, I shouldn’t be. The food and service has been impeccable the last three times I’ve been here. Unfortunately, I have not been adventurous in my eating at this restaurant. I can’t get past how good the Mahi and Hearts of Palm salad is. The mahi is cooked and seasoned perfectly. The sweet mango in the salad is a perfect pair with the somewhat spicy seasoning on the fish. I have tried my dining partners’ food before and it was excellent but I’m sorry to say my choice has been the salad. The first time I dined here was in 2010 and I had the crab melt panini type sandwich and it was extremely rich. TBH I haven’t checked to see if it’s still on the menu or not. The service has been impeccable the last three times I’ve been here. I was sitting at the bar and I was watching a worker wiping off clean plates(that had obviously come out of the dishwasher and she was wiping the excess water from them), and she dropped the towel on the floor. She promptly picked it up, stood there for a few seconds to finish a convo she was having with a co-worker, and I got nervous. My pessimistic mind told me she was going to continue to wipe off the plates with the rag that had just been on the floor. I was finally able to calm down when I saw her walk to the back(presumably to dump the soiled rag into the bin, which she did) and walked out with a new towel, and continued to wipe off the clean plates. Thank you, whomever you are.

I love this place. Everything I ordered was yummy. We had nachos while there and they are huge with well distributed and a plethora of toppings. The chips somehow manage to stay relatively together under all of those toppings. I then ordered to go the mahi mahi sandwich and the steak platter for my husband. Both were well seasoned and filling. The atmosphere is great. Two games were playing while we were there and we interacted with the people at other tables. The bartenders and waiters were great even though it was very busy. They were able to give everyone the attention needed without seeming overwhelmed. Definitely a fave. I think I will try the mojito the next time I am there and if I like it definitely bump it up to a 5 star.

Recommended! Wide selection of Caribbean-inspired selections. Pied inCaribbean music. Food tea ration and resent action is good, but not exceptional. Food is fresh, and the vibe is relaxed. Very popular, but has a corporate feel. Atmosphere feels like a restaurant, not a beach house. I enjoy eating here for lighter fare than most New Orleans places. Good bar selection. Service friendly and professional.

Fun! friendly, nice atmosphere, this place rocks! A rum house kind of place, with outdoor seating option(lovely), or great indoor wooden/Caribbean/island-ish decoration. The staff is extremely friendly and gives good cocktail recommendations… which are very tasty and well mixed(the cocktails, not the staff) The dark and stormy cocktail was perfect for me: tasty, rummy and not sweet. Food wise they propose a Mexican fusion style of tacos and much more! A big plus for Dusk taco!

Love the tacos here. The drinks are also great. The flavored mojitos and the funky monkey are all delicious. You can’t beat Taco Tuesdays. $ 2 variety tacos all day long. This is a great place to socialize with friends, but the volume level inside is so high it’s hard to even have a conversation sometimes. But it’s expected at a jam packed place full of drinkers. Been here a couple times and will most definitely be back. Expect a short wait during peak hours.

Flipping delicious. I live I Texas and eat at Rum House whenever I visit NOLA. The calypso beef taco is a beefy explosion of awesome sauce. I tried the Carolina taco recently is it was also amazing. For out of town visitors, go early and avoid the crowds. Also, be prepared to drive around looking for parking. Magazine street gets crazy. Don’t get towed.

It’s a nice casual restaurant with good food an drinks. We came for dinner and had to wait a little bit. This is not as bad as it seems because it allowed to try the cocktails, which are pretty good. The sandwiches are delicious and flavorful(we had crab cake and brisket). Lively atmosphere and pretty decent price.
