We had such a good time here last night! Drinks are good and well priced! Rex Mex Egg Riles are so yummy! Great atmosphere, really fun!

My 5 stars is for the beer garden. I didn’t eat or spend more than a few minutes inside. I though the tap handle water fall and bonfire pit were awesome. They had lots of seating and a huge tv. Plus I’m a dog lover and this bar seemed to be very pet friendly. I drank beer while chatting with others about their pups. My experience wasn’t in depth, but I would absolutely have another beer there next time I’m in New Orleans.

2.5 stars For this place supposedly having the cleanest tap lines ever, it’s sorta a dump. I do appreciate that they have foot handles on the doors so you don’t have to touch anything while leaving the bathroom or if your hands are full when you’re trying to go back inside after sitting on the patio. It doesn’t have a dive feel about it, just more like it’s unkempt. The patio was nice anyway and it’s definitely dog friendly. In fact, the best part of our quick stop here was the puppy at the table next to us who was knocked out in his person’s lap and after waking up was prancing around absolutely adorably. It was absolutely precious. About 50 beers on draft including a lot of local choices. I went for a regional-local option — the Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan brown ale. It was happy hour so all pints were 50 cents off. I wasn’t crazy about it, but it was nice to try something that I probably wouldn’t find in DC. This wouldn’t be my regular hangout if I lived in New Orleans — a bit too dirty/fratty feeling for me.

$ 5.22 for one Abita Amber!!! Seriously that’s almost a 6 pack across the street at Breaux Mart! I can buy a keg of Abita Amber and the serving cost is around 85 cents for a large solo cup that holds more than the Bulldog pints so I would expect a bar could get a quantity discount for even less. The price gouging corporate demon anti-NOLA culture to the MAX has fully taken over with that!!! This is no longer a locals bar and now is firmly entrenched as a tourist establishment of ill repute that especially caters to Tulane students from the Northeast that are nostalgic about paying New York City prices in the Bulldog. They need to open a bead and t-shirt shop next door as they Bourbon Street it up on this section of Magazine… Bulldog ownership has totally lost the fact that volume is where you make profits and I’m certainly not drinking volumes of anything at their current prices where back when Abita Amber was just $ 4 a pint I would drink many on a daily basis here as I used to enjoy this bar. They have completely driven off all their regulars here and all the staff that worked here for many years is gone. This bar is dead to me now. Abita Amber prices at other area bars: $ 2PITCHERS Reginelli’s Pizza Monday, Tuesday and other announced times. $ 4 Rendezvous Tavern($ 2.50 on Wednesdays) $ 4 Balcony Bar(cheaper for announced specials) $ 3 Ms. Mae’s $ 2.75 Brothers Three $ 5 New York Pizza for a slice of pizza AND an Abita Amber Bourbon Cowboy 3 for 1 special works out to about $ 2.50 per beer for Abita Amber.

Disclaimer: I only stopped by for a few beers, I didn’t try the food! They had a decent selection of beers and the bartenders were able to recommended a few local brews. The outside atmosphere was lovely. Although a bird pooped on my arm, it was still a great time.

Probably a little more exciting at night but has a bit of a dive feel to it. Huge craft beer selection in the heart of the garden district. The outside has a cool water fountain tap display that probably is a cool night time hangout.

The Bulldog is a nice bar, but I found the service and food to be below the benchmark. Upon arriving, the first bartender helped me navigate through the extensive beer menu, to help me find the right beverage for me. However, after ordering my food at the grill window, things hit a downward slide. After finishing my first beer, I noticed it was taking a while for anyone to offer me a refill. There were four bartenders working a half-full bar, but I chalked it up to being a football Sunday, but it became evident that this was not the case. When my food order came up(blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich), I picked it up at the window, and clarified with the cook, «this is mine, right?», not wanting to walk off with someone else’s order. «It looks like a fish sandwich to me…» he says to me. Fish, yes. Blackened, no. Just kinda seasoned, and for $ 11.49, I felt it was lacking any kind of side, or garnish at that. Not even a handful of potato chips, however the greasy«bread» made up for that. Not a bad bar sandwich, but I can turn out better in my microwave at home. Back to the bar, where the cold shoulder treatment continued. The first bartender who helped me out was gone, and I had to watch the other barkeeps fawn and preen for their regular customers, while my glass sat empty, waiting… I watched them make eye contact with my empty glass more than once, while chatting amongst themselves, and taking good care of more favored customers. Finally, I was asked if I wanted anything else(like some kind of afterthought), and I ordered one last beer, closed my tab, and beat a hasty retreat. I enjoy some good sarcasm, but when it’s coupled with bad service, forget it. I travel to New Orleans about three times a year, and I will put the Bulldog on my ‘been there, done that’ list. Perhaps you will have a different experience than I had, but there too many other bars in the Magazine St. corridor that deserve my open wallet. Overall, a decent bar with good ambience, a nice patio, and clean bathrooms. The menu is a little pricey for what the cook is dishing out though, and the bar service is ‘serve-ish’ at best. That’s my take anyway.

BESTBARFOODINNEWORLEANS? Or so it’s been rated the last 5 years in the annual Gambit poll. As an asthmatic I grew up avoiding our notoriously smokey bars. However while I don’t know craft cocktails or IPAs I do know food. MYVERDICT: PRICEYANDUNEVEN The crawfish banditos could be tied with the Ritz’s jambalaya fritters as my favorite app but despite a crispy crust and perfectly seasoned cheesy goo the bugs inside were cold! And their dip is a tinny avocado muck. The burger is unspectacular but the waffle fries are a must have. Regardless $ 12 is steep for each. A BAEDEKER: 1. The front door isn’t the first but the middle one. 2. The doors open in not out(fire hazard?). 3. Food and Bar are different tabs. 4. Condiments are under the food window.

Great beer selection. The buffalo chicken sandwich is incredibly good with the jalapeño cheddar bread. Only reason this doesn’t get 5 stars is that it’s all self serve and you have to go to two different counters to order food and drink. Aside from that it’s a good spot.

I gave this location only 4 stars for a few reasons, but I still come here more than the other one because it’s in my old stomping grounds. The food at this location is still good, but not AS good as Lagers or the Mid-City location. I’m not sure why. The wraps always seem to come out too sloppy. The bar itself is very nice, but the bartenders that usually tend the bar don’t seem as attentive or knowledgeable as the other location. Still a great bar, though. The seating is more cozy and confined than the other location and that’s a plus in my book. It is rather small, but that’s alright as long as there aren’t too many people in there. The outdoor patio is nice, and it’s a great place to sit and have a drink and watch passersby and cars go down Magazine. The spigot waterfall is a nice decoration. Like I said, I go to this one more than the other one because it’s in my family’s old hood. I’m more familiar with it. It’s more comfortable to me. The only true complaints I have about this location is the food as mentioned earlier and the fratkids that seem to frequent this location more so than the others. I don’t know why it is, but all too often, I seem to hear whiny college kids complain that they were given the wrong IPA or some shit, or they don’t like that the bartender can’t recommend a beer to them because they’re not even sure what kind of beer they like. It gets annoying, really. But, over-all, it is still a nice place with a pleasant atmosphere and friendly folk tending the bar and patronizing the bar, so go and have a brew and a good time and ignore the whiny college kids.

Bulldog is a dog-friendly bar with a ton of beer and pretty good service. There’s also a nice patio where you can enjoy your beer while checking out everyone’s awesome dogs. The tap list is good, and if you can’t find anything there, the bottle list is also pretty good. Also, we got to keep our pint glasses, which had some pretty hilarious sayings on them. This was, all around, a good experience!

Very fun place on Magazine to grab a beer. The patio is fun and always full of cute dogs, and the inside has a jukebox that you can control from your phone! Everyone comes here on Wednesdays because you can keep your pint glasses(I don’t have a single non-Bulldog glass in my apartment). Tons of beers on draft, polite and fast service, and ample seating.

Hooray for dog-friendly bars! Our group grabbed a pitcher of the locally made pale ale and grabbed seats on the patio. It was very relaxing, there was plenty of seating, and the bathrooms were actually pretty clean! Woo hoo! Would definitely recommend stopping in, especially if you’re out of that«let’s get tanked on taaka as fast as we can stage» of your life and are interested in quality brews. Plus dogs, duh!

We ended up here multiple times on our recent trip to NOLA. Extensive list of beers and ciders and a nice patio in a chill, laid back atmosphere with decent drink prices. Really liked ordering drinks at the bar as opposed to having a server too. Friendly bartenders and fast service. Minus one star for being out of several beers my husband wanted to try but the list is so long didn’t end up being a deal breaker. Your pups are welcome on the patio too — makes for cute puppy stalking! When in town will be back!

As big fans of bulldogs, we had this bar on our radar screen as a place we had to check out just because of the name. When we found out they had about 50 drafts on tap, we decided we needed to get here early in the week! So we did. And we liked it! We like to stop by bars mid afternoon(an advantage of being retired) and when we got there it wasn’t at all crowded, maybe 3 – 4 other«partyers»! Ha. But we got a chance to talk with the bartender Sarah who was a pure delight. Very knowledgable about the beers and the craft beer community in NOLA. We took her up on some suggestions, including Avenue Pub, but found that we liked The Bulldog the best. First of all the selection of IPA’s was terrific. Plus Sarah gave us samples of several we were unfamiliar with and our comments about each led her to refine her recommendation. I loved that. We struck a winner with Abita Wrought Iron IPA, among others. The second time we came we grabbed beers and went out to the very cool courtyard and enjoyed the weather and the scenery. Ideal place to have a couple cold ones. We saw people eating some food at the bar and it looked good! But, I’m not the kind of guy that’s wants to be eating next to someone smoking a cigarette so I’m pretty sure I’d never eat here until that changed. I’d go back next time I’m in town. The beer selection is worth it!

Love this bar! It was actually tough to decide on an IPA there were so many choices. Sarah, our bartender, was knowledgeable and guided us through all the local brews. We finally settled on Abita Wrought Iron IPA. A delicious choice. Peaceful during the day here and a very nice bar to hang out in. They also have a nice outdoor patio that’s dog friendly, which is a great bonus. Who doesn’t love petting puppies & having a beer? We returned on a Wednesday evening before a dinner reservation to claim a couple of the Bulldog Pint glasses they give away with a pour. Grabbed our beers & headed out to the patio because the bar was pretty smokey(something we didn’t notice during the day). The smokiness is honestly the only downside to this bar.

Great beer selection, both draft and bottle. I love trying out local brews when i visit a new city, and this place has plenty to offer. Prices are very affordable compared to other places in NOLA(like the $ 8 bud light i bought in the french quarter). The outdoor seating is abundant and very nice. Cool fountain and heaters for when it’s chilly.

Beer! It’s a surprising commodity to come by en mass in NOLA but Bulldog does it right. As stated in about 55 other reviews I’m a big fan of drinking outside, which is why you’ll frequently find me here. The long and short of it: 1. Courtyard. You’d think the reason to come here is for the beer, but for me it’s for the outdoor courtyard. With ample seating, heat lamps, fans and 1TV that no one pays attention to, it’s the perfect atmosphere for some nice weather day drinking. It does fill up on weekends but there are other bars/restaurants around there to hide your time until a seat opens up. It’s well worth it. 2. Beer. Maybe the best beer selection in NOLA. There’s always a Lagunitas/Founders/Sweetwater/Rogue to be poured and that’s way better than you’ll find in 99% of the bars in this city. 3. Food. Nothing special here. It’s more or less your run of the mill bar food, but it’ll serve for a drunken stomach filling. 4. Specials. They do daily beer specials from various breweries. Worth checking out. I’ll find myself at the Bulldog time and time again, though maybe a little less with a World Of Beers opening right down the way. Regardless it worth your time, go check it out! Overall Grade: B+
