I’ve had this quaint small bar bookmarked for months and finally stopped in because I had an actual real live Englishman as a houseguest and wanted to get his take. He was gobsmacked with it’s accuracy, the flower baskets, the couch… which is killing me that I can’t remember what he called that cozy area, the beers. It was a lovely night so we all sat outside and enjoyed watching the world go by. My friends were pleased with the beer selection. We were all pleased with the prices. Definitely a spot to go get some authentic British flair to your drinking.

It’s a good place to go have a drink and not give a shit, surrounded by other people who don’t give a shit. It’s comfortable, has a decent whiskey selection, and there’s no uppityness. A solid neighborhood bar.

This is a very nice, small and friendly place for a drink near Touro Hospital. The guy behind the bar on my first visit could not have been friendlier. Other people in the bar were also very nice. For a first time visit made you put in on your list of places to return to. The pour was a good one and the selection of drink is varied and reasonable in price. Not a bad place to stop for a quick one if in the area. The music played is at a good level and is the kind of music I like. The restroom is a not nice one and I would put off my bathroom break to another place. This area of town is a good one as far as parking and having so many places to eat and drink within walking distance.

BLUF: I really like small divish bars with good drinks and interesting people. This is that place. Get the Old Fashion. This small small small bar is right beside 1 bar that is only slightly larger and another bar which is standard bar size(larger but not too large). I love small bars that arent douchy or crowded(this place cant fit more than maybe 20). We were the only ones there at 730pm on a Saturday. We walked in teh second the bar tended lit his cigarrett outside. We felt bad but he said he didnt care. We got the old fashion because that is what this place is known for. Bartender said he makes a good one and he was right. They were really good. Again, I love the atmosphere. The bartender was a standard hipster and he was watching an audrey hepburn(sp?) movie in black and white. He said he loved these types of movies. That is pretty dang hipster. So the three of us sat there drinking old fashions and watching a black and white movie; it was really nice. I would love to go there for an entire evening. I really think it would be a nice cozy bar to frequent or make a whole night of. Seems like you would really meet some interesting people there. Cool place.

I can’t really say anything special about this pub. It does occupy a quaint location just off of St. Charles but that’s about it. My first visit was rather lackluster, but I came in the early afternoon hours so their wasn’t much happening in this little pub. As far as drinking goes, there’s not much to be had. Of course, with pubs of this style its probably more of a locals spot where friends gather and conversation is plenty. I should note that given the right individual I can definitely see the appeal of Sovereign Pub, but if your a true beer drinker or even a cocktail advocate you will be hard pressed to find something to quench your thirst. Give it a shot! Maybe it’s for you!

I’m a big fan of this place and come often when I visit friends in the area. Cool décor, clean, never usually crowded. Lots of regulars, but they’re friendly. There is a flat screen TV, sometimes low playing music, yet nothing that would disturb you from having friendly conversations with those around you. Brewster, the bartender, is awesome! He always has a good story to tell and is funny. The bathrooms are tiny, but clean and accomodating. Yes, smoking is allowed here. They do a pretty good job of opening the place up when there’s good weather so it’s never been overly smokey IMO.

This place is awesome. A great spot to grab a drink, watch some sports, and be able to hold a conversation at the same time. The bartender is awesome, and the bathrooms are goddamned adorable.

What a cool spot! I had passed this place a few times on my way to Delachaise and always wondered what it was like. It looked small and cozy, so I was eager to check it out. I walked in and I felt welcome immediately. The bar was filled with local«regulars», and although the place is pretty small, I had no issues finding a seat on the side away from the bar itself. They have a few beers on tap and I’m sure more in bottles. I just stuck to getting Bass on tap. My only real complaint was that the place was a bit smoky, because it’s small, but if you stay a little while it really isn’t that bad.

If you can keep me for several beers and entertained then the 5 stars have been earned. Cool spot with friendly bartenders and regulars. Was a little on the quiet side but that’s what I liked about it. Will stop in again for sure. Oh yeah, the men’s room is tiny! Adds to the charm.

This is a cool little bar with a British theme. They have the tiniest little men’s bathroom with the smallest mini-sink I’ve ever seen directly above the toilet. They have a nice bar with a few tables inside and a few outside. This is a decent place to enjoy a drink and it rarely gets crowded.

Sovereign Pub is a tiny little bar tucked in one of the buildings behind the better-known Delachaise. I’ve been here a couple times, usually with my dude to grab a beer in between going to other stuff. It’s a decent little English pub with a couple of tables, couches, and several bar stools. A handful of beers on tap(nothing surprising here, stuff like Hoegaarden, Guinness, Crispins, maybe Smithwicks and I forget what else), full bar, and a case of bottled beer and cider. I like this place, and oh do I want to LOVE it so bad(I studied abroad in Britain so anyplace that has a copy of the Guardian in the magazine rack brings me back to my happy place), but our most recent visit left me feeling a bit meh. The smoking here is pretty gnarly, especially given this small size of the place. Our bartender was also… not on his A-game either. We all have bad nights at work, but it really chaps my hide when a bartender is chatty and friendly with nearly everyone else and only checks in on how we’re doing when we’re nearly done with our drinks. I’m also a gal that likes to drain every last drop of my beer before closing out my tab, and I didn’t appreciate the bartender whisking away my pint when there was still some solid gulps left in it. When I was like, «Hey ya, I wasn’t done with that» he said, «Oh sorry, I could give it back to you but I just got my hand in it» Really? That said, I haven’t totally ruled out coming back to watch some soccer games, if only because I really really want to like this place. Maybe third time will be the charm?

Thanks to Unilocal,we stumbled on to Sovereign Pub while we were staying at the nearby Hampton Inn. We spent much of the next two nights sitting at the bar, talking with Brewster(the bartender) and the other patrons. It was just what we needed. They don’t serve any food, but if you order from the Milk Bar next door(a back hallway connects them), tell the guy when you order that you’re at the bar in Sovereign and they’ll deliver your sandwich to you. Only four taps(Guinness, Harp, Crispin Cider and Hoegaarden when we were there), but lots of bottles. In fact, both of the second night there was a lively discussion on what other beers they should bring in. The bathrooms are tiny, but have lots of fun items on the walls. Yes, smoking is allowed, but all the smokers we encountered were very considerate and even moved so their smoke wouldn’t bother us or went outside.

«If I could open a bar, this is what it would look like…» I’m not really in a writing mood, so I’ll keep this review small and cozy, just like Sovereign Pub. A friend of mine turned me on to this bar, and I’m glad she did. It’s a cozy little get away with a wonderful selection of ale and spirits. There is a great jukebox and lots of tucked away seating. In fact, this place is a lot like drinking at home. I personally give this bar my 5-Star seal of approval. My only negative is that I’m not there right now.,

Lovely space in the heart of Uptown. Where Delachaise up the block succeeds in making you feel like you’ve left the states for a Parisian getaway, Sovereign counters the experience with a quaint British pub setting, the dimension and use of space not unlike that of a railcar. I had heard there were like 7 seats however that’s not the case. At the bar, yes 7, or 8. But then there’s an adjacent sitting area as well as outdoor seating too. Come for the Guinness, stay for the Steppenwolf on the jukebox.

small bar + super nice staff + great happy hours = a great local place to drink AND have a conversation I am totally surprised that this place isn’t on Unilocal yet! Its a small pub that has a great happy hour starting at 4:30. I know that Martinis are $ 3 then but not sure the other deals. I love that there is outdoor seating and you can bring your dog! Really I would go there just for that. Inside is small but nice. There is plenty of seating around the bar and some tables and chairs set of in a smaller attached room. The bartenders have always been great and they have been known to give a free shot or two :-) I love that its never packed but there are always people there. You can hear what the people around you are saying and enjoy good drinks. I love this place so come but don’t tell too many people!
