Sing Sing is the place if you want to hear current and throwback hip hop which enticed me and my friends to walk inside. DJ was playing really good music and my friend and I started dancing crazy on the stage! The other thing that I liked was how empty it was and it wasn’t too crowded until we left. We basically had the bar to ourselves. The shady part was when we ordered Fireball shots. Wow these shots are nothing like what we have in San Antonio, that bartender filled it up pretty good enough for me to feel woozy after. I could not take it in once I had to sip it twice. Bartender didn’t know how to count money and almost short changed us. After the shot we left. It was alright at least there were no creeps like the other bars, but didn’t entice me enough to come back. Come for the experience then leave.

This place is . We were walking down on Bourbon street on a Saturday night, absorbing all the craziness that was happening on the most infamous street of America. Then I heard some bad-a$* music and had to go in, and we didn’t leave until we had too(bed time). I love the music. It was all really good throw back hip hop music and we were hooked. All four of us had so much fun dancing and watching people danced on stage. Some of them were good, some were bad, some were straight up crazy lol. People weren’t creepy at all, thanks God.

They were nice here and the music is as great on a Tuesday night. The music got us to go in but the nice people got us to stay.

Love this place, best music on Bourbon in my opinion. Just wish they’d make their drink prices competitive. Charge a cover or something and make me want to stick around for more than a few songs.

Popped in here a few times and they always got some killer live music going on. Heavy blues trio bands. Just amazing to be able to walk in off the street and get treated to this kinda down home blues! Love New Orleans! Oh, the bartenders here awesome! Great pours and super friendly… like everyone in nola!

The band here was absolutely amazing, the bartenders were attentive and the atmosphere was so much fun. This will be the first bar I go to when I’m back this year. Thank you for making my trip here amazing! Unilocalers that complain about expensive drinks that are stiff? Hmmm, you get what you pay for and I’ll pay for a stiff expensive drink rather than the koolaid sugary weak drinks elsewhere anytime. I would certainly be a regular if I was a local.

Only place on Bourbon St with consistently good Blues music. They were cool with me bringing in outside beer. The only problem with this place is the booze is overpriced. $ 7.50 for a Coors Light that I could get other places for $ 5. I did go there 3x in 4 nights though.

Been here several times over the years and I believe it’s the best place on Bourbon Street to see/hear some blues. The musicians are always authentic and usually good. I must agree with other reviewers that the drinks are too expensive and I almost always have a battle with the bouncers and/or bartenders about buying a drink. I like to go to Bourbon Street to check out the people, get a huge beer to go and look for bars with good live music happening. Most of the bars have cheesy cover music but you can find talented people playing if you listen. That’s why I usually stop at the Sing Sing and lot of times the bouncers outside see me with a beer and wave me in. That’s when the conflict with the bartenders begins. Why would I buy a drink when I already have one? I usually decide to leave but would be willing to pay a small cover to stay. When it’s busy this scenario leads to people standing against the wall by the door which probably discourages others from coming in. Fun little dive bar. Live band there with a small stage up front and no cover to get in(just a one drink minimum).

As we strolled by Sing Sing on a Sunday night(05−17−15) there was some good sounding blues drifting out the front door. It’s an old, narrow, dive bar with tables down one side and the bar down the other. The drinks are expensive but we figured that’s how it works. Good music, expensive drinks. $ 7.50 for a beer. $ 10.00 for a single serving, screw cap bottle of Vendange Merlot. The blond bartender was pretty cool. But when I walked over to the bar to get another ten dollar glass of cheap wine, there was a different bartender. She gave me the wine with a smile and I handed her a twenty, which she stuck in the cash drawer and walked away. I say: Excuse me, I gave you a twenty. She looks me straight in the face and says: You gave me a ten. She won’t even look in the drawer to see if she stuck a twenty into the slot for the tens. I’ve been around the block a couple of times, so I know how this plays out in real life. If you bitch, you get bounced. If you bitch enough NOPD comes and hooks you up for drunk and disorderly. Oh sure, she could have made an honest mistake. But there was no mistake on my part. It was my first drink of the night, I’m not sloppy or stupid. I’ve got three twenties and a ten in my wallet. I know the drink is ten bucks. I give her a twenty so I can have change for her tip, which would have been generous, but it wouldn’t have been ten dollars. I double check my wallet after the grift. Now there’s only two twenties and a ten. There’s no question I gave her a twenty. That crap leaves a sour taste in your mouth no matter how good the tunes are. We might have stayed for another set. Maybe two. Had a few more drinks. But we didn’t. And we won’t be back. Maybe y’all ought to skip this dive as well.

Music was great no doubt. BUT service horrible. First was waiting for bartender to turn around for 7 minutes, gave up and left to find second bartender. Asked her for 2 beers and got receipt for 15 $, which wouldn’t be bad if i would be in Miami or New York. Asked her to print the original copy, which she told me she cant do at first, and then she did. So on the receipt it was printed: 2 absolute vodka. Obviously vodka and beer usually have different prices. After i asked bartender why she put vodka on a bill and not a beer she said«its New Orleans baby, and thats how we do here», after that attitude we left. Be careful when you buying drinks there.

I absolutely love this place for the live music this is the type of place that I think of when coming to New Orleans my first time I had the time of my life with my wife and friends this time was no different but the drinks are just to EXSPENSIVE! They were not the first time we were down here $ 7.50 for all beers and $ 10 for drinks is ridiculous, me and my wife would’ve closed the place down if it wasn’t for the price of the drinks because I don’t believe in just sitting and listening to the music without patronizing the bar so we left. I hope they noticed rushes of people coming in buying one drink and then leaving. Drinks just to EXSPENSIVE

A hole in the wall sort of place, but we were looking for a place we could talk at about 6PM in the afternoon on a Saturday. We were welcomed by the bartender and could hear a three-piece band playing some nice music. There were hardly any people there yet. We ordered hurricanes at the bar. Very fast service and very good drinks. Perhaps too much alcohol in them, in my opinion, but the bartender seemed proud of that. We moved to a table to talk, and were able to converse. While doing talking, the band played and wanted to interact a little. They did a very good job doing all sorts of familiar songs. We left after about an hour, but were told to come back in a few hours to hear some touted group. Drinks seemed slightly expensive, but probably less than many other places in the French Quarter. I would return to this place.

A divey little music club on Bourbon, Sing Sing was a treat! Just when I thought I wasn’t going to be able to escape the DJ bass pumping clubs all over Bourbon, we walked by Sing Sing and heard the sounds of what sounded like upbeat jazz! We walked into the crowded house and realized this is somewhere we could hang for a bit. There is a one drink minimum when you enter so you sort of have to make a decision quickly as to if you are going to stay or not. Once in, we maneuvered through the crowd to the bar, grabbed a drink, and found an area to stand and listen to the music. As other Unilocalers mentioned, the service sucks, but the music is good, and a nice treat to the traditional sleaze of Bourbon.

Sing Sing is a hole-in-the-wall dive bar featuring some great live music. A place to be appreciated if you’re’ looking to get out of the Bourbon Street hustle of daiquiri shops and souvenir storefronts. The jazz band was great. They played some oldies, lots of goodies and encouraged folks to venture on stage and perform.(I’m not sure if they were charged to sing — I didn’t see anyone tipping $ 20 to do so). There is a one drink minimum per set. My drinks were top shelf and perfectly made. I wasn’t buying so I have no idea if they were overpriced as has been stated in other reviews. We had a blast. Closed the joint down and we would venture in again.

It was probably the only good live music to be found the night we were trolling the French Quarter. Started with blues and then some funk that had people out of their chairs and dancing. The guitar was on fire. That being said, drinks are ridiculously expensive, and they are very pushy. You must order x amount in such time or they ask you to leave. There was also a good five minute break where the band was just demanding tips, specifically $ 20’s. I get it, but I had my one drink(weak and comically small filled with ice), Jeff had a bottle of water($ 14) we tipped the band, enjoyed three songs and left.

Sing Sing = definitely not my thing thing but for what it is, a bar with live music on Bourbon Street, you sure could do worse. Go in knowing that you’ll immediately be forced to buy a drink. I get it. They deal with an array of hand grenade and hurricane-toting folks all day and night so they automatically think you’re «one of them.» Hey, give me the benefit of the doubt before assuming I’m a jerk and I’ll be more compelled to stay and drink one, not two, of your 9 dollar call drinks(pinch me, am I in Manhattan? You can keep it). Why it’s alright: they usually do book some quality musical acts here(who also know how to hussel: if they call you on stage to perform with them, you have to pay them 20 bucks) and when you have friends in town seeking that dreaded«big night out on Bourbon,» this is one of the quick stops you might make. PS. There’s a one drink minimum per set.

They make you buy a $ 7 beer per two or three song set. It really just turned us off and encouraged us to leave. The music was good but I did not want to get drunk just to stay there.
