This may have been hands down one of the best dishes I have ever had. Service was great and so were the cocktails. So happy I stopped in. Highly recommend the escargot dish.

This place should get 7 stars by NOLA standards. Very contemporary, inventive menu. Oscar the bar manager excellent mixologist. Had the pickle plate and deviled eggs. Very tasty and well presented. I had the Five Boroughs cocktail… Awesome!

The atmosphere is relaxed. It’s a kid happy hour– five dollar cocktails are pretty hard to come by. Sitting out on the balcony is great when it isn’t too sunny. But the indoor seating is also nice. I like this place a lot.

The attention to detail and thoughtfulness in preparation of the drinks is without rival in NOLA. Listening to the enthusiasm and pride of one of the mixologists in describing the ingredients and process for the Bourbon l’Orange decidedly added to my enjoyment of it. That being said– the two small plates we got were realllly small.

We came here for pre-dinner cocktails prior to our meal at square root NOT to be confused with root squared(one = craft cocktails on a balcony, other = fancy dinner downstairs). We got two really yummy smokey concoctions. Order what your heart desires, you won’t be disappointed!

$ 20 appetizer plate. This is a complete joke and I’m quite offended by the amount of food that’s being served. Just a bunch of scraps being served and definitely not worth the time or money. I will however applaud their service and cocktails. My predictions for this restaurant is dark and dismal. This place will be out of business in a year or two. I also want to add that this was my birthday…

So my coworkers and I have entered into something of a love affair with Root squared. The specialty cocktails and small plates here are really as good as it gets. This is a destination location but also friendly to walk ins. Really, you could impress the hell out of a date, colleague, or relative with this restaurant selection. Happy hour prices are incredibly reasonable and the staff here is absolutely wonderful. I can’t say enough good things about this place. The pickle plates and pickled selections are my absolute favorite. I would honestly do anything to get my hands on a jar of some of those pickled peaches. The pickle plates are also accommodating to vegetarians. Root squared is an amazing experience, nothing less, and they never fail to deliver.

First of all five stars don’t come easy from me. This is truly deserved! We live in the neighborhood and had an awful experience at another neighborhood restaurant. See me review of La Boca. We were aggravated and I was really ready to head home. My daughter wanted dinner. So, for the first time, Root it was. I was pleasantly surprised! The staff and food was awesome! Max and Maria made us feel right at home. I ranted about the earlier episode and they were kind enough to listen. They vowed to make out night great, and they delivered! We started out with the half and half charcuterie. I don’t know what was better, the meats or the pickled bell pepper. Awesome! By the end of that, the three of us were satisfied, but took the chance and ordered the fried chicken. OMG! Off the chain delicious! Home made sweet pickles, German potato salad and more crispy delicious curry scented chicken than we could devour! The only thing that was better, was the the service from Maria and the manager Max. They personally made it their goal to turn our night around and they did! Here’s a shocker. They even discounted our bill to make up for what the other restaurant did! Awesome people, awesome food. We will be back!

First of all, big fan of the name– it’s not often that a bar draws inspiration from mathematical notation. Root Squared occupies the second story above Square Root. its shiny fine-dining bunk mate. The space reminded me of a cozy, elegant living room, with seating at the bar, on leather furniture in the center, and at tables around the perimeter. If it weren’t a chilly November evening, we absolutely would have checked out the outdoor balcony. The atmosphere was perfect for a laid-back date: dim but not too dim, with soft bluesy and folksy melodies drifting lazily through the wood-paneled room. The menu offers a reasonable number of cocktails, wines, and beers. We were a few hours too late for happy hour and already had a dinner reservation, so we decided to forgo the assortment of snacks(which looked phenomenal) and drink deals for a pair of $ 12 cocktails. I opted for the Spaghetti Western, rye whiskey with a flowery sweetness to it, which I found decent as a whiskey-lover. My girlfriend went with the Rosemary’s Baby, which was a refreshing gin-based drink with a smoky twist. The drinks were solid, the atmosphere was homey, and the name gets an A+. Can’t wait to come back and try more of their stuff.

It was a bucket list experience to enjoy the tasting menu. We especially enjoyed the skill and expertise of the sommelier. We ordered just on drink pairing and that was right for us. We aren’t lightweights but it allowed us to sample the drinks without it over powering our taste buds. We got the mixed drink pairing. Loved it. The flavors and techniques of the preparation were beyond explanation. This was a big splurge for us but no regrets! A meal for the ages

Stopped by for happy hour and was greeted with a warm welcome by the host and sat outside on the balcony to have small bites and cocktails. Both of the dishes we ordered– the beef and oyster tartare and shrimp and crab stuffed deviled eggs were well thought out and unique. Drink prices were a great deal and had my first Pimm cup there. I’m hooked! Everything about this place is great and it definitely gets my recommendations!

Another great evening at this amazing bar/restaurant. The new menu items include a creative twist on Frito Pie(made with seared duck hearts) and a Lobster Burger(puréed lobster and shrimp formed into a burger shape served on a delicious homemade bun) Served with a side of «fries». Both dishes were delicious, but if I had to pick, the Frito Pie was better. Maybe the most delicious dish that I have had at this restaurant. Chef Lopez and his team never disappoint with new creative menu options here…

Awesome rooftop bar with a great vista of the NOLA downtown skyline. We stopped here after dinner for a quick(and quiet) drink before heading back to our hotel, and it was a great evening to just sit and hang out. The charcuterie situation here looked delicious, and if we weren’t so full from dinner, we may have considered it. Definitely a good place to go with friends since seating was abundant and sharing seems to be encouraged!

Color me confused because I did not realize Root squared and Square Root were two different establishments. Glad my friends finally got it through my thick head. So, yes, this is the upstairs bar above the fancy restaurant. And the atmosphere is lovely and spacious. You can even eat bar snacks(which are pretty meat heavy) and make a meal of it. I did sample the enormous(and delicious) Big Cheese plate; it had interesting selections and a nice number of accompaniments, fruit, nuts, bread, etc. I also had the deviled eggs which included shrimp. They were tasty but not my favorite. The old fashioneds though. Oh my those were good and at HH prices(5 – 7 pm), yes please. The staff was lovely. The space is inviting. There is a wacky toilet paper art installation in the restrooms. Really great spot to be fancy while having some food and drinks. Hard to believe I bought one of my favorite tables at this location just a few years ago. The transformation is amazing.

A group of us monopolized the lovely upstairs lounge at Square Root on Wednesday evening for René D’s birthday — I cannot think of a better place to be on a Wednesday evening for happy hour. Hell, I may even have my own birthday happy hour here. It’s as if you get your own private room, only you may get a visit from the cool kids who venture on up here because they know Root 2 is that awesome. Lest I move away from the HH specials too soon, know that there’s an array of half price cocktails, decent wines and beers on there. I chose a Lambrusco that’s on the dry side. This ain’t grandma’s Lambrusco, though! You know, that stuff that tasted like fizzy grape juice and is so sweet you can already feel the hangover after one glass? Yeah, not that. It regularly goes for 10 a glass, which is fine, but even better at 5! What a sweet, sweet deal. The bartenders are all wonderful, attentive and can whip up a mean drink. It’s kinda magical because they chill the glasses with dry ice. I love bells and whistles! But seriously, I had a taste of some of their specialty cocktails and they are unique and tasty. The entire upstairs staff is just so nice and welcoming. I’m just saying this because there are so many places these days where the staff is no such thing and you feel like you’re being granted a favor just to drink there. I look forward to the evening when it’s warm enough to sit out on that idyllic balcony, by the way. If I lived in the area, this would so be my regular joint. And if I were still eating cheese, those cheese boards would make me weep with joy. Sadly, not much in the way of vegan options, but I didn’t ask…

HH specialty drinks for 4 – 6 $! That’s a steal for the crafted cocktails, which are all delicious! I would say I am in love with this place. The outside balcony is perfect for cool nights! Deviled Eggs: So tasty I could eat all six by myself. I wish all six were topped with the crisp though! Lamb Meatball: Its okay. The red sauce is pretty tasty but not as flavorful as a handful of others that I’ve had. The pasta was cooked al dente. Meatball is a lot leaner & actually reminded me of phở meatballs! lol if you must try anything, try their cured meats! It’s all in house/homemade and so delicious! Second best charcuterie board in NOLA! The accompaniments are so unique too! This place will definitely become one of the hottest spots in town! Just to mention, the service & bartenders were awesome! Everyone was very accommodating & wonderful. They definitely made our experience unique.

Such an unassuming spot. Judging by the entrance area, you would not think the 2nd floor was this cool. The bartenders were a little scatter brained, but I just figured they were all new. I like modern spots where you can eat dinner and have drinks or just socialize. The sofa area is really nice to entertain guests(in your non house) LOL. We ordered a cheese and charterie plate and deviled eggs during Happy Hour. The bartenders mix nice handcrafted drinks. You can tell they are not the average bartenders, just a little nervous to have company! You have to make a reservation to sit on the first level and eat dinner. I don’t like that. Wasn’t really crowded, so why harp on appointments. I will be back because I really like the location. It’s really near the bridge AND it’s a great atmosphere.

This is a review for Root², the upstairs bar. We were early for our reservation at Square Root so we headed upstairs to check out Root². Square Root, on the first floor, is a chef’s table restaurant that seats 16 people. Root², on the second floor, is a bar and serves charcuterie plates as well. On to my review: Root² is a nice space and we very much enjoyed watching the bartenders creating drinks. We could have easily sat in the bar area and just had drinks and charcuterie while watching the staff ply their craft. As a side note, for fans of Game of Thrones, the charcuterie chef looks a little similar to a character, but I won’t spoil it and tell you which one. After our dinner downstairs, we went back up to Root² and sat on the balcony and ordered a the chefs cheese plate and another round of drinks. Service was impeccable while not intrusive. Even our water glasses were always topped off. The cheese plate was presented beautifully and the cheeses were lovely. The lavash bread that is served with it matched perfectly. If I was forced to put down something negative of Root² is that the bearded bartender dropped the cap to the Crème de violette on the floor and picked it up and replaced it on the bottle. I’m sure the alcohol kills germs and probably it falls within the 5 second rule anyway. Again, this is nit picky and I only mention it as the only negative.
