We ate dinner here our last night of 5 nights in NOLA. Sat in the court yard and enjoyed the great vibe. It was the priciest meal we’d had but so well worth it. I splurged and ordered 2 entrees because I couldn’t decide between. Heaven! Husbands steak and lobster was absolutely wonderful.(Don’t forget to get your leftovers to go, the homeless are very appreciative of the give) We loved that the chef came out to chat and after a great meal and a cocktail(or 2) I gave him a big hug as thanks. Highly recommend!

we were just looking for something New Orlean to eat for lunch after the cruise… so we are not looking for a lot… just quality… and we were just looking around, and the owner or the manager just stood outside and tell us… «i know you want oyster!!! 50 cent raw oyster!!!» and yes, thats why we walk in… we were seated by the bar area, and were quickly greeted by our server, and we told him that we weren’t hungry, but just want some oyster… we ended up eating char-grilled oyster instead of the raw one, but oh my goodness… it was heavenly… I personally do not eat raw oyster, but this char-grilled oyster is just amazing! oyster was so fresh, and the topping wasn’t overwhelming where you can still taste the oyster, the combination make me wish i was actually hungry so i can eat more… Service was great, and the owner came and greet us again and shake our hands as we left… southern hospitality!!! :)

Found a Groupon and wanted to check it out. You must have the Char Oysters and blackened redfish. Both are the best with soo much flavor. Our server was not the best & very slow which is why I couldn’t give it 5, but the other server stepped up & out. He helped us pick our meals which was better than our original plans. My hubby ordered the crab cakes & red beans and rice. You wont be disappointed. UPDATE: Because of Smitty’s(griller) delicious oysters we decided to make a 2nd trip before we left and it was even better the 2nd time. We sat at the bar and order ½ Dz Oysters & fried pickles. The conversation with staff and others at the bar made me feel like I was at the Cheers bar. Everyone was very welcoming & hospitable. Wonderful quality of food and outstanding service. Thanks Tiffany & Smitty for making our last meal here a memorable one.

Stopped in here quite by accident after being frustrated with several failed attempts to get seated at several other places. Glad we did had a great time. I had 3 dark and stormy cocktails total 39.00 @. 13.00 each pretty pricy. The rest of our crew had beer so the rest of the drink bill was good. It was a rather comedic place with the banter behind the bar which is where we sat. Came in at 3:00 or so and the first bartender we saw said happy hour starts at 4 we saw the sign on the way in that said during game time. A basketball ball game was on so we asked the waitress and she said no not til 4 well the shuckers name was Irvin or Ervin not sure of the spelling-he said gruffly the sign is out– It starts now! So we happily ordered our several dozen oysters fresh from the shell to the plate to the grill, or raw. Grilled oysters 1.00 each raw .50 cents each. Ervin appears to be a master shucker he taught us how to shuck and what to watch for of the oyster is no good. Great time. The guy on the grill was named Kendel Morgan he was very engaging and kind and was really interesting watching him work very precise with each freshly shucked oyster that was put on the grill. Several oddities this place is huge so waiters came up from the back patio to order oysters and some were just verbally giving the orders and some were giving little papers with the orders. It seemed confusing. I was sitting at the end of the bar and as Kendel was plating the oysters the waiters in the back were coming to get them. On 2 occasions 2 different wait staff yelled at another wait staff about not taking their oysters. It seemed highly unprofessional but it was quite entertaining. We stayed a long time to watch the parade and second shift came on. It was then a madhouse bartenders only waiting on the right side of the bar. Major congestion the oyster plating area now tended by someone other than Kendel was having cooked grilled oyster orders sitting one time for at least 10 minutes which surely were cold by then. Another order sat there and a guy from the street that had been waiting for a beer just started chowing down on oysters waiting to be picked up by the waiters. Seems to need some better management after 4pm it turned into chaos and we left then. Will go back!

This was our first time eater my here and the food was awesome. I got the Catfish Decatur which was a very large piece of fried catfish with jambalaya. The catfish had a light and tasty natter and was very large and the jambalaya was not Spicy but tasted great. My husband got the New Orleans assortment of items that included jambalaya, crawfish etoufee, shrimp creole and red beans and rice. All were great. Service was impeccable. Very attentive server. We will definitely be back with our out-of-town visitors. Pricing was great for the amount of food on our plates.

I know the restaurant business is tough, especially in such a competitive city and I am not one to use Unilocal to attack restaurants I don’t love or to retaliate in response to poor service. In fact, I’m quite sure this is my first negative review. Now there’s a feeling you get at the pit of your stomach when you know you’ve been had, when you’ve approached a given situation in good faith only to later learn you had sucker written all over your face. It’s a terrible feeling, one that should not happen to good people. This is why I’m writing this review. I suppose I wasn’t sufficiently hammered for the scam to work. I wandered into this quaint little place with a talented musician playing some jazz(it was 1985 jazz but still good) and I always want to support musicians, so I decided to go for it and was promptly seated at my table. It was only then that I noticed we were surrounded by tourists(a little more upscale than what you’d find on Bourbon Street but still a bad omen). I wanted to leave right away, but not wanting to be rude, I asked myself a question for which I couldn’t have imagined the answer: «how bad can it be?» Well I found out. The wait staff was friendly, but pushy and high-pressure. Hedging my bet at this point, I opted for the cheap wine(which was surprisingly decent) and the shrimp creole. My friend with me also decided it was probably safe to go with crawfish étouffée rather than take a risk on the pricier Ossobuco he really wanted. One look at the plate and I knew. This place was a complete fraud. Not even my eyes could prepare me for what I tasted. Simply put, they don’t know how to cook anything period! This was the worst food I have had at a restaurant ever as far as I can remember. A place like this could only survive in a city like NOLA with such high weekly turnover. This is why I feel it necessary to write a review. When the waiter came back to check on us, I mumbled«we’re ready» through my lips of shock and pure disgust, trying to fight it and be pleasant. After this, our waiter never made eye contact with us again. He didn’t ask if we were unsatisfied with the meal or offer to get us something else(both plates still completely full of food). It was clear we both knew what had happened. He brought us our check and we promptly paid and left praying that we could somehow go back in time and eat at even a lowly Waffle House or McDonald’s instead, which sounded like heaven at the time. We both felt sick the next day. I’ve eaten the equivalent of both these dishes at good to great restaurants in NOLA and elsewhere and loved every bite. I know what it’s supposed to taste like and this wasn’t even a poor imitation. If Midwestern meatloaf gravy had been mixed with pea soup and milk, that might describe what this place calls a roux. If you walk by this joint and find yourself captured by the sound or the quaint atmosphere, try to notice the gentleman standing outside the restaurant hustling to get folks to go inside, then take my word for it, they need him. He’s worth whatever they’re paying him.

My first meal in NOLA and a recommendation from a friend. The food… The blacked redfish was amazing! Unfortunately… I had the Combeaux Platter and the redfish was my brother’s main dish, but he was kind enough to let me try. The combeaux platter wasn’t bad, but it also wasn’t that great. as with all mixed mains, some will be better than others. The venue… I enjoyed the old brick garden feel of the restaurant, it seemed very much like the«expected» New Orleans feel to it. Service was also fantastic. Our server was quick to take care of our drinks and to check in on us. I’m not sure if it’s a regular thing, but you’ll most likely catch some live music while you’re there as well. Overall… good food with a good vibe, and I would be open to trying it again!

Ok first of A. J, hats off to you sir… We were in town on an impromptu mini vacation. Nothing planned but the hotel… we were wandering the streets looking for a good place to eat. A. J stopped us and say come in for some great food. not very often you get the owner of an establishment to greet you at the doorway. So we figured what the heck… We were so so hungry, not famished… so we ordered the gater bites and the fresh crab… Gater was a bit different than we were used to, it was a sausage type plate served on a bed of coleslaw… It was very tasty even though it was not breaded like we usually get… and the crab legs… cooked perfectly… the only draw back would be that they did not give you the crab leg cracker that you ALWAYS get… so eating these were a bit difficult to say the least… But flavor scored this meal a 4 star review, that and the fact of A. J… All in all, this is A. J’s best restaurant… Atmosphere, ambiance, and great folks… Note though, please do not be in a hurry… the wait staff is fast to get you in but a bit slow to get you out… Knowing that i would still return here for the wonderful food and atmosphere :) Great job A. J, if we return we will be back for sure!

We didn’t want to wait in line for a long time so we came across this cuisine which was kinda empty(Saturday around 4pm). They greeted us and we were seated immediately. We ordered: — 12 Char grilled Oyster(It was SOUNBELIEVABLYDELICIOUS!) you have to order it, it’s a must! Thank me later! — 2 Shrimp Creole(Tasty and a bit spicy). — I forgot the 3rd order –_– but it was tasty as well. The service was good and I liked the music inside(There was a band playing). It was a bit cold inside tho. I would definitely recommend this place! :)

Tried the taste of New Orleans Sampler. 3 out of 4 were great! Also had the chicken & Andouille Gumbo & the spices in all were great. They have two sides of the restaurant. Bar seating & dining seating with live music at times. The courtyard for outdoor seating in the back is very quaint. Romantic music playing of old times past. All the staff is super friendly just as you typically find in NO.

1.5 stars. I’ll round up because the door man was cool. $ 9 for 6& $ 13 for 12 oysters OTHS, this was the best non happy hour price we found. Sat at bar but inoperative grill, cranky shucker and disconnected bartender made our experience sub-par. Here is a quick snip-it of the at bar dialogue: Us: «We’d like a half dozen char-grilled oysters» Bartender: «Grill is down, no char-grilled oysters» Us: «Can we get baked oysters?» Bartender: «Yes» Us: «What is the difference between the 3 types of baked oysters» Bartender: «I have no idea, no one ever orders them» Shucker: «He’s new and don’t know anything» Bartender: «OK, what is on them then?» Shucker: «I don’t know, I’m too busy doing the kitchens work» Us: «WTF?» We did get some oysters on half shell to eat while watching the shucker snap at other customers. In city full of oyster bars, that kind of customer relations disaster isn’t going to keep you in business.

Beautiful restaurant with lots of outdoor seating, including a back terrace. The food was delicious. I highly recommend the corn and crab gumbo and the Cajun fried calamari to start… Both were to die for! They also have a «taste of New Orleans» entrée which has a little bit of every popular creole dish(crawfish étouffée, jambalaya, creole rice and beans with andouille sausage, and shrimp creole). For a «first timer» in New Orleans, it couldn’t have been more perfect. You get the entire experience with one entrée. The location is also very nice, as its close to bourbon street but not on it, so you have a little bit of peacefulness while you dine.

I gave it four stars because of the service and how pretty the facility is. The chargrilled oysters were great– but the oyster platter wasn’t. It’s not your traditional oysters Rockefeller. It’s more of a spinach thick mix(see pics). And the other two tastes exactly the same– like stuffing. You couldn’t tell which one was what. We didn’t really touch the platter, but I’d go again for the chargrilled for sure!

Lovely court yard dining while listening to live jazz. Ordered the cookery trio, Taste of New Orleans & Steamed shrimp. While the food was good, it was a unanimous decision that we’d never order those dishes again. Service, while friendly, was on the slower side. I’d give this place 3.5 stars if I could.

This is a really great New Orleans eatery off Bourbon(meaning — easy to get a table). You are greeted warmly at the front door — and can eat in the bar, their back patio(w/fountain), or dining room. I had the seafood gumbo in the bar area with a couple of local IPAs — amazing. I liked it so much I came back the next day for breakfast — had the gator hash with poached eggs. The eggs were poached perfectly, potatoes were like little gnocchi, very good. The portion was so large I could only eat half — I would have liked it if it had been half the size/half the price(breakfast is a little pricey). The bananas foster — also very good. The gumbo was a good value. They also do oysters on the half shell for a good price for HH. Bathroom situation — clean, large

We just came home from Sunday lunch at NOCC. As a favorite chef of ours, Chef Alex Patout, has recently become associated with this place, we had looked forward to our first visit. Patout is a real Cajun from Acadiana, and is famous for his delicate handlings of fresh sea-foods, especially our local crabs & shrimp. First off; I asked our very nice waiter, point-blank, whether the seafood gumbo was from Chef Patout, or, was it «New Orleans Style»; and was assured that it was from Chef Alex. The shrimp remoulade was old New Orleans style, and was very good. «Gumbo», however, didn’t even merit the name. the first bowl was what I would call over-salted smothered okra in heavy tomato sauce, zero identifiable seafood. I sent it back. What returned was more of the same, now with five smallish shrimp tails. I have grave doubt that Chef Patout had anything to do with this. For those who are unfamiliar, «New Orleans style gumbo» could mean almost anything, universally BAD. Chef Patout’s New Iberia style gumbo is always just great ! I would never order gumbo in the French Quarter, excepting that this one had a known reliable Cajun Chef’s name attached. Lolly’s «shrimp creole» was also tomato-sauce heavy, but much better. Nice digs, good live jazz quartet on the well-decorated courtyard patio. The table next to ours, from St. Mary Parish, had similar opinions. I suggest that the restaurant owner give Alex free-reign over the kitchen, especially the gumbo pot; and watch it improve. Meantime, we’re going to await knowledgeable reviewers noting improvement before trying again ! Sad; because the location, décor, atmosphere, and wait-staff seemed excellent. Anyone seeking real Cajun food would do well to seek out some of Chef Patout’s other ventures, especially the«Restaurant St. John» on Bridge Street in St. Martinville. Remember, that as with all« Unilocal» reviews, the local knowledge and familiarity with genre of the reviewer should be given much weight. Rick

New Orleans Creole Cookery Almost walked by this gem of a restaurant but caught the courtyard dinning area’s gas lanterns out of the corner of my eye. My fiancée has adored the look of these lanterns which many houses thought the city have and we were told they left them lit nearly year round to welcome people. We took it as a sign and tried the restaurant. The staff and décor were fabulous. We shared the crab cakes(4.7÷5) and shrimp creole(4.5÷5) and enjoyed every last bite. Not a bit of food was uneaten, although the bread was a bit plain in comparison to the rest of the meal. Both main courses were so flavourful but not overpowering. They had such great and balanced flavour. The waiters and fellow customers were all in such great moods and it made our last evening in New Orleans an evening to remember. To our neighbouring dinner guest, bon appétit et enchanté.

First time stopping in was during a walking tour of the French Quarter. We were have a drink break midway through and sat at the oyster bar. The oysters looked spectacular so we decided to come back for dinner the next night. We ordered oysters obviously, the duck Lafitte, and shrimp and grits. Then finished with bread pudding. Everything was nice. I loved the flavor of the grits and the rice in the duck Lafitte. We would come back again. Highlight was the entertainer. He was great, personable and very talented. He was a one man ensemble mostly playing an alto sax and singing. Be was really really good. I would recommend this place if ever in the area. Enjoy!

2.5 rounded up. I came here with my family after reading the Elite reviews and hearing the Maitre D’ tell us about how highly rated this restaurant was. While we were at first charmed by the décor, everything else proved lackluster. My sister ordered the Creole pasta, my dad had a Caesar salad, my mom had the jambalaya, and I had a Taste of New Orleans(sampler trio of jambalaya, red beans and rice, and crawfish étouffée). The Creole pasta and the crawfish étouffée were excellent, and the restaurant was very generous with the amounts of seafood added. Caesar salad was standard, and the jambalaya had a smokey taste without a lot of flavor that I didn’t particularly like. I wouldn’t want to eat an entire plate of the red beans and rice, and my mom only ate half of her jambalaya… So if anything, get the more expensive items as they may taste better. Go big or go home, I guess. Also – for a restaurant not even half full, they have pretty bad service. Our waiter was nice and funny and all, but we waited so long for our food and for his attention that it made us not want to tip(we still did though). And dude, they charge you for water and never even offered to refill them once during the meal. What the heck.
