Are there really any bad parades?! We followed the Saturday circuit — our first parade experience in NOLA. Set up camp at Magazine and Milan. Very kid friendly and the foil floats were just awesome. What can I say? Everyone was friendly and accommodating of the space we needed for our little guy and when the boys in blue came by to clear everyone back — it was a group effort. Everybody grab a kid and hit the curb!

I enjoyed this parade. The second of four parades to run the Uptown route(which is odd, because this parade does not run through the Mid City neighborhood, despite the name), and is very shiny with the foil on the floats. The foil made the floats very shiny. There was a TON of foil on the floats, and could be pretty blinding when the sun hit them. Did I mention the tons of foil on the floats? I really liked the floats, and the parade riders were generous with their throws, and they seem to be having a lot of fun, and actually interact well with the crowds. The marching bands stepped lively and the dance troupes were great fun to watch. I felt that the foil was well done. I really do like this parade and look forward to watching it during future Mardi Gras. The only complaint is that for some reason I was unable to check in on Unilocal, but that is a first world problem that has nothing really to do with the parade itself.

This is such a gorgeous parade! The floats are decorated in shiny, colorful foil and on a nice, sunny day it is just beautiful. They are generous with throws and the riders always seem to be having as much fun as the crowd. I do wonder why a Krewe with the name«Mid City» runs Uptown. Hmmm…

Meh. Eh. Uh. After hearing Jen L.(and her mama!) rave about this parade, I was super excited. Shiny! Foil! Floats! Lots! Of! Fun! Twas not to be. Because Mid-City is the opening act for the super krewes of Thoth and Bacchus with bonus Endymion in 2011, people were already drunk and stupid for Mid-City. I got no throws and three elbows in the face(this is a common Mardi Gras theme for me, the elbows in the face). It’s not the no throws thing that bothers me; it’s that this krewe wasn’t throwing at all. I didn’t see anyone fling a single trinket! The level of drunk and crazy was just too high for me to deal with a dud of a krewe. Ugh. It felt like the krewe didn’t want to be riding. What’s the point, then? Recommended beer: Coors. All show and no substance.

I love this parade. Why? Because their shiny, foil floats are so different from every other krewe’s floats. Extra points for parading in the sunshine for maximum sparkle.
