It’s open, but not the place on their website. Now it’s just a pizza place. We were directed there for the red beans and rice Monday special. The gentleman was pleasant but told me that they just had pizzas, wasn’t in a pizza mood, so thanked him and went to Mandina’s.

I dig this place. Great neighborhood joint. Go for the pizza but get the brisket sandwich. They also put a nice spin on Mac and Cheese.

Came here for lunch and I must say it was a bit underwhelming. I first came across crescent pie co at the summer solstice festival and they had a stand passing out amazing samples of their sausage which I must say truly is delicious. However the restaurant was a different matter. Service. Waitress was kind and friendly but did not write anything down and ended up needing to come back and ask our orders again. Speed of service was good. Everyone was polite. Ambience. The entire neighborhood feels a bit run down so it was already off putting. The restaurant was a bit shabby. The design was average that of painted wood. One story with a bar. Food. This is the disappointing part. I saw reviews about their awesome jambalaya but it came out to be average and on the dry side. The sausage mixed platter was good but no where near as great as the sausage at the festival. There was a big assortment of choices on the platter and it was quite filling. All in all. I recommend getting sausage because yes it’s their specialty but nothing seems to have stood out. Maybe others will have better luck.

For lunch, we decide to try out Crescent Pie and Sausage Co as we have yet to eat many of either of those foods, pies and sausages. I ordered a Black Bean Jambalaya as an appetizer. It came out fairly quickly, which was nice as I was pretty hungry at this point and didn’t want to wait too long. It was nice, but nothing special. It was a decent size for an appetizer too. The main appeal about it was how quickly it came out after ordering. For my main course, I ordered a Hot Sausage Po-Boy. Now I consistently order hot sausage wherever I go as I am determined to find one that is actually hot. Today, I was let down.again. The hot sausage, as nice as it was, was simply not hot. I was expecting some kind of spiciness to it but it was just very mild. Also, the sausage was too big for the bun and didn’t allow much else to fit in there. There were three slices of tomatoes, few pieces of lettuce and that’s about it. I ended up removing everything but the sausage and ate it by itself. If the sausage itself was smaller, more dressing could have fit and could have made the po-boy that much better. Overall, the combination of the appetizer and main course was very satisfying as the serving sizes were good but both the appetizer and main course weren’t as flavorsome as I was hoping. Next visit, I think I’ll opt for a different appetizer and definitely try one of their sausage platters, they looked great and very filling!

We stopped here when looking for a place to have lunch away from the CBD& French Quarter that had a place to park and no wait. It was a good find overall. Their menu is a bit schizophrenic. I don’t usually couple sausage and pizza in my mind. But really, don’t worry about that, because you want to stay away from the pizzas anyway. They’re not terrible but they don’t stand out in any way and you’ll find them way overpriced as a result. The kids ate all their pizza and had no complaints but my palate is pickier and I wouldn’t have ordered it again :) However, there are some gems here. The biggest of which is the OMGWOW pan-fried mac and cheese. I ordered mine with a creole sausage(I forgot the name of it already) and sauteed greens. It looked like a small portion when it came but was actually extremely filling. The mac & cheese is rich and delicious, darn near perfect actually. The greens could have used a little bacon in that sautee but were still good. The sausage was also very good, but it’s a very strong flavor that I would find more suited to cutting up and putting in a gumbo, jambalaya etc. rather than eating it «straight». My husband ordered the sausage sampler plate and one of the perks of our marriage is I sample whatever he’s ordered(muhahaha). The biggest winner was the boudin. I can’t claim to be a boudin expert but this one was, to me, absolutely delicious. The bratwurst was good as well. I’ve pretty much forgotten everything else because the boudin just really stood out. My hubby was very kind and swapped with me so I was able to eat half his boudin with my mac & cheese and give him the creole sausage. We tortured our kids by making them try the pickled okra that came on his plate. Do people like this? We didn’t. But honestly it tasted about like I expected pickled okra to taste. I noticed they had a 4 pack of Barritt’s ginger beer sitting all alone in a cooler in the dining room. It took a herculean effort for me not to order one, esp. as I was disappointed by another restaurant in town ditching Barritt’s in favor of an inferior brand. CPSC — did you steal their Barritt’s? Shame! Service was just fine, we didn’t have much of a wait either to order or for the food to arrive. The ambience was bright and airy. No complaints. I’d go back and definitely order a boudin and that mac & cheese again.

To sum up my entire experience with Crescent Pie and Sausage Company in one word: frustrating. CPSC has been a Unilocal bookmark for quite some time and last night I decided to finally give it a try. I was coming from another part of town so I decided to call-ahead with my order. No big deal, right? WRONG! It took me three attempts at calling to get through. The dude that answered the phone asked to put me on hold. I agreed. Six minutes later, though, I was not so agreeable to holding on. I decided to hang up and try again. It took TEN more attempts to get through again. TEN! They must have caller-ID though, because when the call finally rang through, another dude picked-up and immediately apologized. I should have taken this as a sign and gone over to my trusty favorite, Midway Pizza. However, I’m stubborn and apparently a glutton for punishment. Twenty minutes later, after having a hard time locating the joint at night and then eventually having to find a parking spot down a residential neighborhood, I walked into CPSC. For all the trouble I had trying to get them on the phone, I expected this place to be SLAMMED. Crazy busy! Wrong again. Two small tables of couples and two older gentlemen at the bar. All of which were finishing up their meals. At least this would work in my favor, right? After all, they’re not busy, it’s been 20 minutes… my food should be ready! Right?! Nope. So, I sat at the bar and waited for another ten minutes. All the while, the cooks and waitstaff were completely out of whack… total miscommunication, multiple times. The cooks put food out, but it was supposed to be «to go». They boxed all the food up and one server guy came to bring me the food. The server lady intervened though — that food was for her table, not me. Bummer. Another ten minutes later, more food comes up ready. Another miscommunication with boxing for the to go order(HELLO, ALLTHETABLESINHOUSEHAVEEATENALREADY). But this time… it’s mine! HALLELUJAH! A few short minutes later, I’ve zipped home and we’re ready to sample all the delectable items ordered — a BLT Pizza, Mac N Cheese, and a Boudin link. Opening the boxes, I immediately regretted the decisions. Each of the boxes were dripping with grease. Now don’t get me wrong, I was not under the impression that I was eating anything close to «healthy». It was just the sight of SOMUCH grease, it became unappetizing. But again, I’m a glutton for punishment, so consumption did of course happen. Boudin — I’m a HUGE boudin fan. I love it. I could eat it every day, breakfast, lunch, and dinner until my boudin-lovin’ heart exploded. Unfortunately, the boudin from CPSC was very disappointing. Although meaty, it lacked spice. It was very tasteless and bland. I wouldn’t try it again it was so lackluster. Mac N Cheese — the greasiest of all, but due to the fact that it was so cheesy. Cheesy, baked macaroni. Definitely worth all the calories. Not sure about $ 9 for a side item kind of worth it though. BLT Pizza — I enjoyed how light the crust on this pizza was. It also wasn’t chewy at all, which surprised me. The pizza toppings were almost refreshing, adding to the«lightness» of the pizza. The little cut-up strips of bacon were spread over the pie evenly and wasn’t overwhelming. The«lettuce» portion was the spinach pesto, plopped haphazardly atop. Great substitute. As a garlic lover, I was pretty excited about the garlic aioli drizzle as well. Unfortunately, that flavor did not translate well amongst the others. In fact, it didn’t, really, at all. In the end, after having experienced such a frustrating process and considering the food was so underwhelming… I’m not sure there’s a reason why I’d return to CPSC.

Ate here Saturday night second weekend of Jazz Fest. Had a party of 7. Arrived around 8:30. A few other tables, but otherwise not busy. I arrived first. Tried to order a Bud Light but was scoffed at. Told«We only carry beers that taste good.» — HUGE mistake. I then tried to order a Crown and 7 since I didn’t like any of the«good tasting» beers they carry. I was again scoffed at. I asked the guy«So I guess you don’t carry anything normal» to which he responded«Nope». As our party arrived, they too were disappointed to find that the beers that they ordered that they do carry were out. After everyone ordered, our food was taking a considerable time to get to the table(almost an hour) when a sausage tray arrived. No one at our table ordered this but we were so hungry we decided to keep it. Some of the sausages were good, others not. I didn’t care for the boudin but the sausage with the BBQ sauce on top was good. I ordered the bratwurst. Terrible. Dry and just tasted like pepper. I’m glad I ordered the sauerkraut on the side. No good. My friends ordered two pizzas, a sausage pizza and the margarita pizza. Both were pretty terrible and burned. I took pictures of the burned crust and will post. The only reason why they ate it without sending back is because we were starving and it was approaching 10pm… The only thing you could taste on the pizza was burnt crust. All in all, pretty terrible experience. Mid City pizza is directly across the street and a LOT better.

Black barts jambalaya!!! — This is possibly the best jambalaya I have ever had, it’s also the first ‘black’ jambalaya I’ve ever had(normally ‘red’). I’ve brought two people here and they both agreed if it’s not the best it’s sure close to it. In addition to the above I’ve now tried the duck confit pizza and the house made sausage platter. The pizza was good but didn’t really stand out flavor wise as much as I expected. We actually added some salt to give it more flavor. The sausage platter is a solid choice and I would certainly order it again. 4 – 5 of their house made sausages and some awesome(really awesome) house made mustard. While the jambalaya was incredible and the sausage platter also up there, the service was somewhat slow and inconsistent both time’s I’ve been there and one time they messed the bill up(in our favor but I let them know because I planned on coming back). 5 stars for the jambalaya and sausage, 3 stars for the pizza and service, 4 to round it out. You can bet I’ll be back for the jambalaya many, many more times.

Three days after visiting CP&SC, I have virtually no memory of what I ate. Even after looking up the menu online before starting this review. I don’t see this as a good thing. Granted, I was with a date and had a good time(both good things), so maybe my attention was simply elsewhere. I remember enjoying whatever it was that I did eat, but nothing blew me away. What I do remember: It was completely dead when we arrived at 7:30 on a Thursday night, though a couple of stragglers did wander in during the evening. The service was very good — attentive but not annoying. And the prices were fine. I also liked the drink that I had, which was something like a spiked Arnold Palmer, but I don’t remember exactly what was in it. I’d go back again if I were in the neighborhood, but won’t be making a special trip.

–1 star because they wouldn’t sell my 83 year old mother a NOLA tasting glass, something they could have easily overcharged for and repurchased(or gotten for free) from their supplier. Poor decision by their manager tonight. #1 rule is EVERYTHING is for sale except the full ingredients/recipe list. Also service out of the kitchen was a bit slow, but to be fair, we asked for some changes to our order after we placed it and they graciously accommodated us. No idea if that created a longer wait, and this is a small place, only 4 – 5 tables when we were there. With that ugliness out of the way, why haven’t you been here yet? Made in house sausage and mozzarella, pickled veggies and smoked ham made in house, local produce like kale and other ingredients, home made pot pies, I could go on. We had several different types of sausages, all were excellent, the knockwurst was very dry. Toulouse and Smokies were the faves. Pan fried mozzarella and parmesan mac and cheese, holy mother of comfort food! A HAIR salty for me, but gosh was it good. Probably the best I have had. Kale as a side, again, some of the best sautéed greens I have ever had. Tremendous flavor, and strong pork notes. Pizza was reported as meh, needed seasoning. Too bad I don’t live here, I would be back to try the pot pies. And the Braunschweiger. Thank you for one of the best meals we had this weekend!

Came here for a Sunday brunch and was very impressed. The place had very rustic décor, and an overall homey feel. Kinda like what every hipster restaurant in Brooklyn tries to emulate. Sorry, had to put that New York reference in there. Seriously though, this place is a hipster’s dream. Ordered the breakfast jambalaya with a biscuit. Jambalaya was cooked just right, and not too soupy. Biscuit was fresh out of the oven, and super buttery, just how it should be. Also was able to try the daily special, which was pulled pork and grits. Grits were the right texture, and the pulled pork had the right amount of chew and not too mushy. Out of bounds. Overall, prices were very reasonable too. Wanted to try some of the pies, but was way too full from the jambalaya. What a shame. Only qualm was with the service. The waitress and hostess both were very friendly and polite, but would often disappear for long periods, and failed to check up on us except for getting us our food and later, our check. They also forgot random parts of the order, as well as my friend’s iced tea. They were very apologetic and it was moderately busy, so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Seems to be a neighborhood favorite, and I had a decent experience, so the next time I’m in New Orleans, I’ll make sure to try some of the black jambalaya.

While I’ve been here several times, and find the food and service to be typically good, it fell flat today. I’ve tried specials including quiche, the blue Jay special(my typical favorite) and other dishes. Today, I tried their«ancho-lada» dish. I’m not sure if my expectations were not correct in reading the menu, or if it was just off in flavor, but definitely not what I was expecting. The spice was miniscule, it had no real flavor. The pork was only identifiable by texture and the mole sauce extremely strong and strange. I expected spicy hot and zesty flavorings. This dish didn’t provide those. It’s a great place to eat, but unless you like this sort of dish, I would suggest you avoid it and try something else. I’ll be back, but will definitely be wary of trying things here without extensive questioning.

The restaurant is small but cozy; there is a full service bar with a rotating tap with a good variety of seasonal and local beers. We were seated right away by a very friendly waiter who walked us through the menu before going off to fill drink orders. They have a fixed menu and a rotating selection of pies; not like Australian meat pies but more like pot pies. That day it happened be the shepherd’s pie which was quite good. I ended up getting the Deutsch plate which is probably one of the best deals on the menu, a house made sausage with house made sauerkraut and house made warm potato salad served with a little bit of creole mustard. If I sound like a broken record writing«house made» over and over again that’s a good thing. Virtually everything on the menu is made in house. Pies, sausages, pickles and deserts. Deserts. Some of the best I’ve had in town. They’re all meant to share as far as I can tell from the portion sizes. They are very generous with the food here.

Sometimes it is good. Sometimes it isn’t. Inconsistent. I have had sausage plates a couple times and it was hit or miss. I have had pizza a couple times and it was also hit or miss. When it is is a hit it is really good. When it is a miss it isn’t bad but just a disappointment. I do recommend staying away from the Duck Brie pizza. It was expensive and pretty small. Average taste. The name was the best part. I’ll probably go back in a few months because I live near by but I will only be going back out of laziness. It is not bad but nothing to get excited about. Not many places to go with sausagey menus though so sometimes it can hit th spot if that is what you are craving.

A place that makes their own sausage and I am in the area and hungry, lunch at Crescent Pie and Sausage is it. The restaurant is located in the middle of a residential neighborhood. The décor is pretty simple but along with the look of the staff gave me the hipster vibe. However, it is not that kind of restaurant and all types of people from old to young were dining here. Our server was a really nice guy, but it seemed to be his first day and he struggled a bit(forgetting to offer specials, etc) but he went out of his way to create a good experience. I ordered the special for the day, Red Beans and Rice with andouille and cornbread. The house-made andouille was exceptional! The red beans and rice, on the other hand were lukewarm; it needed more flavor. The cornbread was a little dry for me, but flavorwise was good. Besides their sausages, the other thing they are known for are their pies. My dining companion ordered the Mid City Slammer Pizza(Andouille, Grilled Chicken, House-Smoked Coppa, Cheddar, Mozzarella and Red Sauce). Again the andouille stood out and was the star. The pizza overall was good. The crust was thin and crispy. I also liked that the toppings were the focus and it wasn’t just another slice loaded with lots of cheese. Yummy sausages and an awesome atmosphere is what I found in Crescent Pie & Sausage Co.

We got here at about 7 pm one evening having to be at an event across the street at 7:45. We didn’t tell the waitress this because we figured it wouldn’t take that long. There were 4 of us but only 2 people ordered entrees. One person ordered an appetizer and the other just ordered a drink. About 15 minutes after we arrived a table of 6 people was seated next to us. Time passes and as it gets close to 7:30 and we still have no food, we ask the waitress to bring the check with the meal and explain that we have to be across the street at 7:45. Also at about this time the table of 6 next to us gets all of their food. At 7:40 I ask the waitress to just put the food in a go-box. My husband told me to go to the event(I needed about 5 minutes to get a drink before the event started) and that he would bring my food to me. Let me mention that I ordered macaroni and cheese. At 7:45 my husband arrives across the street with both of our meals in boxes. We scarfed our food down before our event(a bike ride) took off. The macaroni and cheese was good, but I really didn’t have time to savor it. I was really looking forward to this place given the stellar reviews and the fact that it’s only a mile from my house, but this was not a good experience.

I guess I came here with too high of expectations… It was good though, don’t get me wrong, but I guess the pictures and other reviews had me hoping for much greater. What we ordered: 1. MacNCheese — This was okay. Not what it’s all hyped up to be. Maybe because I had the Pancetta Mac N Cheese from Cochon Butcher just a few days ago, I was hoping for the same creamy and rich goodness. However, it wasn’t comparable. This was baked and came out a little dryer than what the pictures on Unilocal also look like. Not as creamy. Maybe they messed up or something. Also, it was a little more browned at the top(being left to bake too long?) 2. Jambalaya — My son loved this. He ate almost the whole bowl. It was good,…just not outstanding like other reviews let me to be. It was very brown. It looked burnt but it wasn’t. I guess that was just the flavor. The sausage in it was good. 3. 2 pies — Seafood and Duck Confit. The seafood was delicious! I would get this again! Both pies were super crispy and flaky and soft. The pie was on par. 4. Turkey melt with Parmesan potato chips — I don’t know, but when these came out, the chips had a whiff of truffle oil. Even my sister said so. It wasn’t described, but man was this good(the chips, I mean). The turkey sandwich was okay. The boyfriend said it was dry, and he loves his sandwiches. It has this sweet jelly as a spread but it was a tad too sweet so when we scraped it off, the residue stuck in the bread was enough. 5. Mid-City Slammer Pizza. I didn’t try this, but my sister and bf seemed to devour half the pizza themselves. It was okay. I had a taste of the crust with a bit of the red sauce. Pretty sour sauce. But they’re the carnivores so I guess they know what a good meaty pizza is… haha It was a nice try. I like to try places and if I LOVE it then I’ll definitely be back. This place was good, but it’s just a place that goes down in the books. I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat here again

Ok, I took off a star because it can be a little pricey, the tables are really close to each other inside, we got the wrong bill which fortunately we caught before we paid, and for some reason we got our link sausage appetizer at the same time as our entrees and we were starving! But hey, that’s what we get for coming an hour before they close. Anywho, I’ve been here a few times and always eaten inside. But tonight was a beautiful spring night and my cousin(visiting from Portland) and I opted to sit on their beautiful patio. Our server Judy was lovely and checked on us quite frequently. Tonight we ordered the cajun version of chorizo(forgot the name), blackened jambalaya as a main dish(delicious and unique), and the brisket with Parmesan and truffle oil chips! Our food was delicious! The sausage link with the spicy mustard and sweet pickles. Yummy! I don’t even like pickles but I ate these and put them in my brisket sandwich! My cousin loved the blackened jambalaya which is a total coop because she went to culinary school and can seriously cook! And I enjoyed my brisket(no one is as good as the Joint) with the homemade Parmesan chips with truffle oil. Now keep in mind that they make practically everything here, their sausage, pizza dough(which I’ve never tried, gotta rectify that after reading Joi’s review!), parmesan chips with truffle oil, heck even ice cream! You should also order the fried Mac and cheese like everyone says! Plus the meat plate is so yummy for us carnivores! Next time I won’t gorge and want to try their homemade ice cream over a pear tart that the next table had which we eyed longingly! Happy eating!

There is not a great deal on the menu here for the non-meat eater… but that’s kind of obvious with the name. However, their mac n cheese was AMAZING. Seriously, I think it was cooked in a mini cast iron skillet because it had delicious crispy cheesy bits that Anita M & I had to divy up exactly. So so good. I think it was the muenster. We also split a shrimp chop salad which was also really good. And a Marguerita pizza which was OK. I think it was just a little under-done because Lindsay A loves their pizza and raves about the crisp cracker crust… which we didn’t get. So maybe next time. Finally, we had the super chocolate dessert… the name was cute, but I can’t remember it. It was again delicious. My only problem with the dessert menu is that it is printed in red ink on cream paper; in a comfotably lit room that’s tough on the old peepers. I had a glass of their sangria which was good… but maybe too much cinnamon for me. Will defintely be back.
