Of course I’m super biased, since I’m a Latina, and absolutely had to give this place 4 stars. Their music was on point! They played reggeton most of the time, and the legit super popular(amongst Latinos) songs too. I’m sure Americans recognized the many Pitbull songs as well. This was probably THE place where my friends and I danced the most. It was crazy fun.

2nd time back. went on a Thursday first and not too many ppl. played all Spanish kind of music. reggaeton, salsa, bachata and such. then came back again then today Friday(also Mardi Gras weekend) and was dancing with the friends and approached by the waitress/bartender and was told the one drink minimum. lame I thought. played again the Spanish music.

My favorite on Bourbon! It seems like every night is Latin night and Latin nights are the best. I’ve been here maybe 3 or 4 times and I’ve had a blast every time. I’ve never had a drink here(I’m usually already in my zone by then) so I can’t really testify to the drinks but the DJ rocks. The music is great and everyone is always dancing having a good time. Yes, I’ll be back!

Reviewing on my experience during Mardi Gras time, starting at 10pm they put a Latin DJ who plays your salsa, bachata, merengue and reggaeton. Good mixes dance floor a bit small but loooove the music this appears to be the only place that plays Latin music on Bourbon St.

One night in NOLA… my phone died and I disappeared. My friends found me at Chris Owens. I love Chris Owens. They have the perfect playlist of salsa music… I literally had to get dragged out of the bar. It was great. I don’t remember the tab minimum thing… Maybe my opinion will change if I ever visit sober… But for now. I love Chris owennsssssss

Awesome Sunday night DJ! What a great set of music. It’s spacious and the bar is pretty big. The dance floor takes up half of the club. Loses a star bc we saw 2 huge roaches crawling under us … HUGE. So we left. But prior to that, it was a great time. So go here if you want to dance the night away.

I didn’t get to stay the entire time, but my brief experience in Chris Owens Club was memorable. We were having a great time listening to the music and enjoying the drinks, but right before the show we had to leave, so I didn’t get to see it. I actually didn’t know much about the history of the club until afterward, but I still enjoyed my time there. There were some older songs early on and a much older crowd having a blast and then the show happened … Later when we returned, it turned into a Latin night club. I actually had an amazing time there and I loved the atmosphere. But I didn’t get to stay the whole time, so I’m not sure what happened in the middle!

We didn’t see Chris Owens. Instead, we came in following my ears to find a band fronted by an awesome electric blues guitar man. Sat down to listen to the set, paid for a couple domestic bottles of beer. This guitarist is the real deal when it comes to southern blues guitar. Didn’t get his name. Just stuffed his tip jar. Also — the Green Alien Drink. $ 15. Worth it if you are looking for a pick-me-up(off the ground later, that is!). Actual exchange with the bartender: Me: «What’s in the green alien drink?» Bartender: *shrugs* Me: «OK, I’ll take it!» Felt no pain.

Some girlfriends and I finally made our pilgrimage here — since each of us have lived in New Orleans, seeing Chris Owens’ show live and in-person has been on each of our bucket lists. We love seeing her during the Easter parades, so seeing her in her own club was something we were pretty excited about. Chris Owens is a mainstay of Bourbon Street, having been around for decades. We headed down to see her(relatively short) set one night, and I think we were the only people there specifically for Chris Owens — I think everyone else wandered in off the street because they were drunk and it was free. Note that Chris Owens only plays at certain times and when we went, she only did one set. It’s Bourbon, so of course you’re going to pay through the nose for your crappy beer. There are waiters who take your drink orders, and they seemed oddly resistant to taking tips, which was sort of awkward. As for Chris Owens — wow, she can still shake it! Don’t come here expecting any musical revelations — lots of bad covers of Shania Twain and Jennifer Lopez. But it’s pretty fun to see this old-school Bourbon Street institution still kicking.

The secret here — be there when Chris herslef is performing. It’s a blast — one of the best bar shows in the Cirty! This a rare, remaining tast of old New Orleans. An experenice to be savored. I mean, this is classic night club entertaining — really where can you find that these days? The club itslef, well, it’s pretty standard French Quarter(smallish, overpriced drinks, sort of tacky) — but it’s just so damned — classic! Get there while you can…

This place is a joke. Band was good so decided to have a couple beers. $ 16 for 2 twelve oz beers. Other area bars had 2 or 3 –1 which was $ 6.75. Be ware that you will be ripped off if you get any drinks. Talked to another guest who paid $ 14 for two Long Island ice teas. Her bf went back and paid $ 17 for one drink. Seems like they make up prices as they want. Will never go back to that place again. Bunch of thieves.

I’m probably going to have to update this review the next time I’m in New Orleans, so take this review with a grain of salt. My friends and I walked by one night during the Jazz fest weekend. We almost walked past when I heard some Reggaeton playing. There was no hassle on entry(not surprising since most venues on Bourbon Street were the same way) and we went straight to dancing. Aside from my unit(comprised of Persians, Guyanese, Haitian and Trinidadian people from Brooklyn & Queens NY), everyone else in the building was Hispanic. The main dance floor is dead ahead as you walk in, but there looks like another one further in and to the left as you continue to walk. We dance in both areas until the DJ decided to drop BPM’s and transition to some salsa. I can dance to it, but the rest of my party couldn’t so we dipped. I wish the DJ would’ve kept it upbeat with the Reggaeton and Dembow, but perhaps we missed some of that earlier. All the more reason for me to come back and check it out for a longer time next time. Mardis Gras perhaps?

I was on a vacation with my friend and a lot of the food and drink establishments were fantastic in NOLA, and I enjoyed their Southern Hospitality very much. However, that ‘southern’ hospitality was gone when I headed ‘north’ on Bourbon St. from Canal. One of the ‘requirements’ to enter was to by a drink. I bought a drink and at the bar and was talking to my friend at the end of the bar. I was getting a bit hot/tired so I wanted to get a bit of air. There were too many people inside so i went outside and I came back in. The guy said I had to buy a drink… again…I told him I did. He said«I just saw you walk in» and I went back and forth with him telling him I went out to get air. Needless to say, he didn’t believe me and said I had to go. As a working professional and someone that paid money to come relax for vacation this was one of two bad experiences I had in NOLA. I’ll back come there but I’m for sure staying away from this place. AWFUL! (This review is late but i was there early April of 2012)

After walking around looking for our next place to chill in we past by this place & decided to come in due to the fact that they were playing some Spanish music which was cool to hear since it seems hip hop rules most places here. They had a 1 drink minimum which was kinda odd but whatever we got to try the New Orleans beer Abita… it was ok, a bit too biter. They were playing Spanish music till they closed, we had a good time dancing.

We ducked in here on Lundi Gras to get off Bourbon Street and have a drink. The place was small with what seemed to be a V.I.P. in the back. I was surprised that there were not many people in here with the live music going on. We sat at the first table in the middle of the room near the bar. After a couple of songs, the lead singer announced that the song was dedicated to someone very special that we all know. I was sure he was going to say Whitney Houston since it was only 2 days after the televised funeral. However, I was surprised when he said«Alicia Keys, ladies and gentlemen, she’s in the house and she’s right over there.» He pointed to a woman standing at the bar with a friend. Her back was turned so but everyone was staring in her direction. She finally turned around and I had to study her face, yes sir-eee, it was her, the one and only! I had just seen her on t.v. singing at Whitney’s funeral and there she was, standing right in front of us. She’s a tall gal, big boned and her nose was a dead giveaway. But honestly, the guy was a jerk for exposing her like that because she looked around, and then she left. I can’t blame her. Then I went up and asked a band member what she was doing here. He told me that she is friends with Chris Owens. Makes sense but I would have never known had she not been exposed. It was quite a thrill to know that one of the most talented women on the planet was only 6 feet away from us.

The band(Rooster and the Chicken Hawks) & a few waiters get 5 stars… That being said, I’ve never been treated so rudely by any establishment in my life. No matter where you go in the French Quarter, you can carry your drinks. Not this bar. You must pay $ 8 for a 6 oz well drink & then be constantly barraged by the bartenders. The 2 that were working both nights we were there over the weekend were so impersonal & bored & just downright jerks. I had an empty TROPICALISLE hand grenade cup that I would have liked to have kept but while I wasn’t looking, someone took it & threw it in the trash. Lighten up… it’s the Big Easy for a reason ;)

Tragically I did not get to see Chris Owens herself perform, but I did get to see all her minions dancing on stage(especially the dj, bless his soul). As one of the few Latinos down in NOLA, it was exciting to find this little place on Bourbon and finally see where we all conjured. The music was great, the men were short, and there was of course a fake palm tree in the middle of the dancefloor — what more can you ask for? As another reviewer said, no matter where we lurked into, we always ended up at Chris Owens at some point of the night. It must’ve been all the macho-man musk in the place. lol

Have to drop a star here. They only had one salsa song during the many times we dropped in to check. They had lots of reggaeton(which is awite), and quite a bit of merrengue. I did get to dance a salsa song with one girl. Props to the olé guy who DJs — just play more salsa though!
