As you can see I’m not big on writing reviews, but … when I do you know it’s worth the read! This place is simply awesome! Keith, the owner has spent years perfecting a Sake list that is really not to be missed whether you know Sake and even better if you don’t. And let’s face it not ALL sushi is created equal and what you’ll find here is creative, expertly prepared and honestly fresh. Try the Blueberry Bread pudding Tempura … Ya I know what you’re thinking but like the coconut sake you’re missing out if you pass this place by. I not kidding! Great staff, great energy, great food

By far the best sushi in New Orleans. They always have a special and it’s always worth it. Sexy vibe that is perfect for date nights.

Can’t get any better quality of sushi! I’ve never tried cold sake until tonite and hands down, I will never look at hot again. Huge selection of cold sake, the largest cold sake menu in Louisiana! Thanks Hannah for a great first time experience and thanks Keith for working so hard to provide such an amazing restaurant!!! #1fan

Went on a double date with our friends one night for happy hour hour. Tasty drinks and delicious Japanese food. Had Salmon Teriyaki and my husband had snow crab rolls and we both enjoyed our meal. Parking can be difficult during happy hour but it’s totally worth it.

I have been here numerous times, and I have to say: it is the best sushi I have had in New Orleans. The rolls are the perfect bite size, and perfect crafted. The fish is clearly high quality. The owner often visits with customers at their tables and tells them about the various fish that have been flown in overnight from the pacific that are that day’s special. While the regular priced menu items are a bit steep, the happy hour(Mon-Thurs 4pm-6pm and Fri-Sat 11pm-12am) is really what seals the deal for this place. There are some great deals to be had; all of the happy hour rolls are great, the crawfish fried rice is unique and exceptional, and the alcohol is highly discounted. The regular menu items are delicious too, and the details are really locked down. I have had some outstanding vegetable and poultry dishes and cocktails here, but I usually just get sushi and Sapporo because few things can top that combo for me. The service and ambience are good, and they have live music sometimes. They are open late, too!

Let’s just start by appreciating the fact that this place is open until 2AM! Hallelujah for the shrimp Tempura bun and the sushi here is made fresh to order. I’ve tried the crawfish fried rice before and I enjoyed it. It’s not really better than any rice I’ve tasted but it’s a nice Option over a regular shrimp fried rice or chicken fried rice. The service is always friendly and they know their stuff. I’ve never had a bad experience here with food or cleanliness. For the bar lovers, there is a bar here; bars mean happy hour and drinks for everyone. It’s best to come when on a date or for an intimate setting with family or friends.

Went for happy hour with some friends(4−6pm). It was practically empty inside for a Saturday. Our waitress was really nice and down to earth. I think her name was Lauren? The happy hour has some pretty good deals on drinks, apps, and sushi. I got the seaweed cucumber salad, the tofu, the crunchy salmon roll, and the crawfish fried rice. Washed it down with a large hot sake. Everything was really tasty. I’d go back for happy hour again.

This is my favorite sushi spot in NOLA, and it’s not even close. Some people may be turned off by the«fusion» sushi thing, but they do it masterfully here. There is classic sushi fare as well as fantastic New Orleans-centric spins as well. There’s something for everyone. Everything I’ve ever had here has been FRESH and FANTASTIC. The wait staff is awesome. I’ve seen them exercise a monk’s patience with screaming bachelorette party tables and other occasionally drunk nuisance Oak Street walk-ins. Their sashimi selection alone is worth the trip and they have selections you won’t find anywhere else in the city. Their happy hour specials are BONKERS good and they have the best sake selection I’ve seen anywhere. If you’ve stayed away from this place because of the«fusion» thing, stop being foolish and fix that. The Lemongrass Hot & Sour Soup will change your life. Start there and get adventurous with the menu. Try some sake you’ve never heard of. Try 4 of ‘em. You won’t be disappointed.

You don’t normally think of sushi when you think about New Orleans cuisine but with Chiba in the picture you should. I live in la and I’m custom to the best sushi but sushi in la doesn’t compare to chiba. Their fish is so fresh and they also make everything themselves from their rice to their sauces. Everything is exceptional, my family loves their lunch specials and happy hour is an amazing deal! My favorite is the tuna ceviche and anything tiradito, their Hawaiian tiradito is flown in everyday from Hawaii it’s sashimi with white truffle oil and Himalayan salt… it’s absolutely amazing and so is the Kobe beef tiradito. My dad loves the crawfish fried rice and the pork belly steamed buns(which are both on the happy hour menu). My sister loves the salmon teriyaki which is only on the lunch menu, with the lunch menu you get a choice of salad or miso soup, California roll and shrimp tempura! My sister changes out the shrimp tempura for vegetable tempura and the California roll for a salmon or tuna roll because she’s allergic to shellfish and it’s never a problem. All of the sushi rolls are amazing, I really haven’t had a bad anything at Chiba. It really is the best, and every one that works there is awesome!

Christmas evening dinner was just EPIC at Chiba. It started with our exceptional server, Hannah(blonde Hannah since their are two). She was enthusiastic, on point on refills, excellent advice and recommendations, informing us of ways to enjoy their Happy Hour Wednesday’s, friendly, and probably the best server I have ever had outside of places that have«teams» for each table(like Antoines or Commander’s Palace, both of which would have been three times the cost). Now to the the artisan food that we consumed with a never ending smile this evening. We started with the Tempura Short Ribs, one bite each and me and my girlfriend emitted savory«mmmmm’s» and«dear lords» while enjoying the brown sugar soaked succulent meat topped with jalapeño and a sauce that was a perfect balance of sweet and salty. Did I mention that the were tempura fried before being coated in sauce for that little crunch. I am weird and enjoy warm saki and Kirin while my girlfriend enjoyed several of the signature cocktails. The brown sugar mojito was excellent and a very creative amalgam of flavors. My warm saki was constantly full and my Kirin was replaced before I had my final sip every time, again Hannah(that’s the blonde one for the record) for the win! Our main course was three sushi rolls; the Black Widow, the Let the Good Times Roll, and a mainstay California Roll. The Black Widow was the winner, chosen by my GF, with copious caviar and crunchy caviar and spinach to give the greatest texture mixture of the night. My GF requested the Sirachi on the side and a side of eel sauce, with a little of both of these drizzled on top it was a close second to the short ribs for best bite of the evening. The Good Times roll was above the norm with a great mix of flavors that didn’t need any sauce. We would recommend this location to anyone looking for a memorable fulfilling meal in the Uptown area. Make a reservation if you can to make sure you don’t have to wait long. Have to say their staff takes pride in their restaurant and put the extra energy in to help get you seated as soon as possible. The manager on duty, Hannah(redhead Hannah) was friendly and attentive to making sure all of the waiting and seating patrons were taken care of.

After a day of walking all over New Orleans, I needed a snack. I found a happy hour right around the corner from where the hunger hit me. The sashimi trio was great, and low priced on happy hour. We had two of these in no time. The unfiltered sake is fantastic and also on the happy hour menu. The staff gave us a «last chance» happy hour heads-up, which I always appreciate. I finished off with a bottle of Asahi and a roll from the regular menu, which was good. The staff was friendly, though thin for happy hour. The interior has a great wall of sakes and other beverages. This was a good find and I’m thankful for the happy hours. I’ll be back!

Tip– USEABSABUSE their happy hour prices! So the specialty rolls … Look Presley pretty. I’ve tried three: the Saint Charles, the Mardi Gras, and oak street. Honestly I wasn’t really impressed with any of them… The ingredients seemed fresh but all o could taste in two(st Charles and Mardi Gras) were the fish eggs in top. I Had a buy one get in free coupon for the rolls so, I was glad about that. I did like the happy hour rolls I got — crunchy spicy tuna and veggie tempura. Edamame was good(maybe a little salty? But I like salt). The Goyza dumplings… honestly the worst filling I’ve ever had, lacked flavor and the texture was weird. I wold consider going back for the happy hour deals/rolls. That’s about it.

Friendly staff. Great happy hour food menu. The duck bun was the best thing I have tasted all week. It was very flavorful. The sushi was just average. It did take longer than I thought it should with an almost empty restaurant. The presentation was rough also. The rolls looked thrown together. The rice wasn’t rolled and smooth. The tempura bread pudding was good but really small, even for a half size portion. For the total cost of the bill $ 15(including a $ 4 abita strawberry) I found it filling and worth it. I enjoyed the sampling. I’ll go back and try more another day.

I went in today because my friend wanted sushi and I knew that Chiba had happy hour all night on Wednesday’s. Service was good. Nothing to complain about but nothing special. Kept up with pouring us water and took our orders right away. The food came out in a timely manner. I think if you are thinking to take advantage of the happy hour, stick with items like the rolls and bigger menu items as they seem to be a better deal than order $ 2 miso soup and $ 3 agedashi tofu that are pretty small. I really enjoy going to Chiba for the somewhat upscale ambiance but still casual and relaxed feel. I’m not sure how crazy it gets on the weekends but it is easy to just walk in and get a table at Chiba on a Wednesday night. Sushi can sometimes get expensive for a college student so I definitely recommend this restaurant for some good food that is affordable!

Great atmosphere! Classy sushi and drinks. The waitress was really sweet and accommodating. I went during happy hour. I ordered the CALIFORNIAROLL($ 3), which was standard. I also got the EELAVOCADOROLL($ 5), I like this one a lot – pretty good. I got small hot sake($ 3). It was alright, not as strong as other sakes I’ve had. I would definitely be back for happy hour, such a good deal!

This was my first time going to Chiba and I was very excited to go try it since I am a HUGE sushi fan. The atmosphere of this place is nice and chill. I also came during the time of Happy Hour hoping to get the great deals! We were greeted by our nice waitress and we ordered the Red Tuna Tataki, and Pork Gyoza as our appetizers. I like the tuna tataki however I found it pretty spicy! They put jalapeños in top of it but I thought it was still spicy without it. As for the pork gyoza, I didn’t really like it since the pork wasn’t whole pork meat like I usually have it — it was more like a mushy texture We kept our orders on the happy hour menu and went with the Crunchy Spicy Tuna Roll and Let the Good Times Roll. The spicy tuna roll was nothing special and I have eaten a lot better ones. The Good Times Roll was pretty good, but I really didn’t like the shrimp tempura in it. The fried part of the shrimp was VERY soggy, so when I ate the roll, all I felt was mush — no different textures. Finally we got the Banana Foster Spring Rolls and I’ve got to say that it was delicious and I really liked it. The fried outside of the banana was crispy and cooked right. I will definitely get this again I DO plan to come again to try new items but I will not be getting the two rolls that I already ordered again.

I had a chance to visit Chiba on Wednesday for a birthday event with a party of 8. The location is very accommodating, no issues with the group. They have a good selection of seating that actually encourages groups to visit. The staff was attentive and even though they were super busy they got all of our millions of orders out in a timely manner. Funk and Roll Happy Hour: LIKESERIOUSWEDNESDAYNIGHTSALLNIGHTS… HAPPYHOUR… ANDIT’S SERIOUS… YOUCANTRYEVERYTHINGYOUCANMAKE A 10COURSEMEALIFYOUWANT. I decided you needed to see that in caps. I had Shrimp Tempura Steamed Bun, Crawfish Fried Rice, NY Steak Yakitori, and Blueberry Tempura Bread Pudding all for $ 15. Everything on their happy hour menu ranges from $ 2-$ 13 and cocktails $ 3-$ 7. You really can’t go wrong with that deal. My favorite items I had the pleasure of trying was the Steamed Bun Shrimp Tempura and the Blueberry Tempura Bread Pudding. This was my first time having a steamed bun and it changed my life. It was so fresh and yummy mixed with the huge shrimp, it was almost like a greeted version of a taco but more fluffy and yummy. The bread pudding was just yummy and not as overwhelming as I expected being it was tempura. It was just the right amount of sweet, warm, soft and hint of tempura style. I would definitely go back to Chiba. Atmosphere was cool! It was a diverse environments you saw everything from family gathers, to sorority groups and more roaming around the location. Parking. It’s on Oak, so naturally you would think it would be annoying finding parking, but it’s further down Oak where you have a better chance of finding parking with no issues. This is a good location to check out with friends and even a late night Wednesday date.

I diner at Chiba for a work lunch and I wasn’t that impressed. I had the sushi lunch, a co-worker had some tuna dish, another had some sort of ceviche thing, and someone else had the salmon dish. Mine was okay — the flavor of the fish was decent. My lunch came with a salad. This was no special salad, just your typical sushi restaurant salad. My co-worker raved about the tuna. Maybe next time I should get that?

Although Chiba had nice plating, décor, and atmosphere, it was very empty compared to the restaurants in the vicinity. The sushi menu had different fish that I rarely see at other sushi restaurants, which is a plus. Red tuna tataki– I liked the dish, but I would not order it again. $ 12 for 3 pieces of fish cut exactly like sushi(nigiri) with pickled veggies and ponzu sauce. Not the traditional tuna tataki I was expecting. Chicken katsu– the sauce was a little over powering. I do not recommend drenching your chicken in the sauce or you’ll have soggy, salty chicken. The chicken, white rice, and brocolli was nothing extraordinaire. Foie gras(duck liver) — don’t be startled by the name. It melts in your mouth! It’s $ 6/piece for a reason. Spicy chopped scallops– spice level was at a –1. My sushi pieces had more rice than scallops. I was very unsatisfied. Salmon toro & yellowtail toro– the waitress informed me that«toro» was the leaner portion of the fish but actually«toro» is the fattier belly portion of the fish. Either the sushi chefs or the waitress was misinformed. Regardless, the fish I received was lean and overpriced. 1 extra star for it being fresh. Crunchy spicy salmon roll– again, not spicy and nothing to rave about. This restaurant is definitely $$$(3 dollar signs) not $$.

i am beginning to wonder where my reviews are going; perhaps they do not sync the mobile/web reviews. ANYWAY. I. LOVE. CHIBA. The owner is a super friendly guy, and we had a nice long talk about the fish he gets; I lived in Hawaii so I am a sushi snob. I know. The sushi rolls are SOFRESH. I love this place. Yah, it may be a bit pricier than other places, but the quality of the suhi rolls makes the price more than justify itself. I prefer to sit at the bar, because I like the owner and he’s a great conversationalist(I’m an introvert, but he is so cool). they have a late night happy hour!!!
