1st time 2NOLA. 1st review. Got chicory coffee which was OK, not great. Got shrimp Po-Boy. P-B was nyuh. Fried shrimp, iceberg lettuce, tomato & pickles. I ain’t too picky but think I’ll have better this trip. However the live jazz was a major perk. While it’s true Café Beignet wasn’t my fav in NOLA but it was a far cry from bad.

Now closed, unfortunately. Was looking forward to beignets and the line at Café du Monde was insane, hopefully there will be another alternative for tourists that don’t want to wait 2 hours for a doughnut.

It’s been a while since I ate here(January 2009), but I remember that it was really good. The line was rather long, but it was the day after the Sugar Bowl, so everybody was out and about. I thought the beignets were amazing. It was my first time ever having them. I’d go here again whenever I make it back to New Orleans.

We chose this café over Café du Monde for the air conditioning and lack of crowd. We were rewarded with lots of flies, watery café au lait, and mediocre beignets. Meh.

Maybe my problem is that beignets themselves turned out to be underwhelming. Don’t get me wrong, they are tasty powdered sugar donuts. But they aren’t much more than powdered sugar donuts. Café Beignet on Decatur served up pretty standard beignets, really not much different than the ones across the street at tourist trap Café Du Monde. They were fine for what they are, but nothing I’d seek out in the future. The service was surly but adequate, and seating was limited. One fun fact with beignets, it’s a great gag to take one and blow the powdered sugar at someone.

I’m with Andrew L. I’ve actually been to 3 of the café beignets, and this one has the best beignets. Eventually you have to find yourself in the tourist trap of decatur, and while I’ve been to café du Monde a few times, I find the beignets here better, fluffier, sweeter, crispier. I order and iced coffee and bag of beignets to go, and it never disappoints. If you can, take your meal to go and hang out in Jackson Square on a nice day, way better than the cramped eating area inside.

While service is fast and attentive, the café does not live up to its names sake. Beignets are not as soft and flavorful as Café Du Monde, and may be slightly more than crispy if not burned. I will give them credit because they hand make their beignets, but Café Du Monde is still king. i’d take mass produced beignets over café beignet any day.

Okay, went here after Café Du Monde, expecting a better experience. It was slightly, just slightly better, but really not much. Beignets were crispier here — Rich still swears they are just Chinese congee donuts that someone decided to dump powdered sugar on. As for the rest of the food, meh. And the fact that everything, every single thing, is served with disposable materials, is really disappointing. I mean, that’s like a fast food place. Imagine all the garbage generated. I’m skipping this next time.

Café DuMonde is HORRIBLY recommended and a tourist trap. Café Beignet is great for a quick, cheap breakfast or an amazing order of beignets. Fresh, tasty, not over surgared. No attitude or blank-expression service, no sticky floor. Just good, honest food.

The beignets are probably okay, given other people’s reviews, since I haven’t had the chance to order them. In any case, the gumbo was okay, but kind of overpriced, given the quality. Obviously, this is in a tourist area, so they tend to raise the prices slightly… and the sandwiches are a bit subpar… especially since the cheese can get a bit stale.

Great spot! No line, awesome beignets, laid back environment, cheap, fast. You can’t go wrong with Café Beignet.

Hey, I hear Café Du Monde is a gre… HOLYSHITLOOKATTHATLINE! Fuck that! Let’s go somewhere else. Hey, what’s that place across the street? If you’re one of the thousands of tourists like me who thought it would be a good idea to go to Café Du Monde to get some Beignets, this is probably what happened to you — walking down the street to Café Du Monde thinking you’re the shit because you knew about THE place to go get some baller food, when it turned out everyone else and their mom knew about this place too. Well, tough shit right? WRONG Pick your head up, turn around, and head across the street to Café Beignet because their stuff is incredibly tasty. I have to admit that since I never actually went to Café Du Monde I don’t know how their food tastes, so if you’re looking for a comparison, this isn’t the review for you. But if you want to know what I think about Café Beignet, then you’ll be happy to know that I think this place is so good I’ve been dreaming about having another beignet dunked in warm Au Lait ever since I got back from spring break(OK so I had one dream, but who ever has dreams about the food they ate?). The place was kinda cramped and we were lucky to get a seat. I would have taken points off for that but I loved the cuisine so much I cant bare to do it. The gumbo there was really good, and the service was wonderful because the people behind the counter all seemed to be in a good mood. They even got up and brought our food to us(the place is so small I was expecting them to put the food on the counter and let us fend for ourselves. Café Beignet doesn’t seem like the sloppy seconds you took to prom instead of the fine girl with the nice rack. It’s more like the sweet girl who everyone forgets about but is really fine when you actually take the time to stop and look at her(damn that’s a nice booty!). How did I ever take you for granted Café Beignet?! Will you forgive me? Café Du Monde’s a ho anyway! And now to feast on fried dough and inhale powdered sugar.

Good Beignets more quaint than café Du Monde, but it closes at 3pm every day… If your staying in any of the nearby hotels, look in the tourist attraction pamphlet area as Café Beignet had coupons all over the place for such things a a «free café au lait» with any purchase… Good food, but for the«Entire New Orleans Beignet Experience», I’d recommend Café Du Monde.
