Heard great things but service was so so and the kitchen screwed up two orders(shrimp nachos and a burger). This would have still resulted a good review but the kitchen returned a burnt burger and slightly burnt shrimp nachos now drenched in cheese sauce! Needless to say the experience was less than desirable.

This place was recommended by a tour guide so my friend and I decided to stop by here for our last New Orleans meal. I like that this place is a little off the usual touristy path of Bourbon St. Royal St. is much cleaner and way less crazy. 801 Royal is a nice lunch spot. I ordered a french fry po’ boy(because why not?!) and it was delicious! I could not for the life of me figure out how to pick it up and eat it like you would a typical sandwich but it was still good in cut off pieces. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is nice. I’d come here again for some more grub.

Ignore this review if you’re looking to read more about 801’s food. Read this review if you’re looking to grab a drink to go during a busy time of year. My friends and I were looking to have a drink on hand as we joined the masses for the Bowie second line this past week. The place was understandably busy, no surprise there. That said, when your bar is two or three deep, perhaps it’s time to make ‘dem drinks rather than hold court with your regulars going on about how drunk you got last night. We had to repeat our order of three simple drinks(2 vodka sodas, one Corona) three times. When trying to pay, we were given two different prices — get this, 26.50 first and then when we repeated the price in disbelief(come on, I know we’re in the Quarter but are you kidding me?), realizing his mistake(?) he lowered the price to $ 25. Did we order doubles? Are Coronas now an expensive beer? We paid, tipped and got out of there. I’ve tended bar in packed places before so I get the whole being flustered thing, but this isn’t acceptable. Weirdly enough, I didn’t feel like it was *that* packed. A large group came and went with their go cups, which kind of emptied the place out. The bartender was just not fast enough. We were in there about 20 minutes total. I was also barked at when I was waiting for the bathroom. A woman came by asking me if I was a customer and then demanded to know which table I was at. Realizing she sounded kind of harsh, she softened her tone when I pointed out my friends at the bar. Won’t be going back, even when it isn’t crowded. There are plenty of French Quarter bars that handle their crowds well and treat you like a customer when you are one.

I think our hotel recommended this place because it was paid to do so. While our server was friendly, we were told the Po Boys here were really good… This was not the case. DONOT order the Po Boy Here… We got the shrimp and it was not good at all. The potato salad was really good though. We also got the friend green tomatoes with shrimp. Those were okay.

We stumbled upon this place on a Sunday morning and decided to try it out. The staff is very friendly which is especially nice since our two daughters were with us. Food was very tasty. They have bottomless mimosas if you choose the breakfast. We had a nice lunch and meandered the French Quarter. Nice little shops near as well.

Was visiting from Boston and was walking around with friends, just looking for any place to eat. Just happened to find some open tables at 801 Royal, and walked right in to be seated. To be honest, our group had no expectations of this place whatsoever, we were just starving and wanting to eat! But this restaurant turned out to be a pleasant surprise. One girl and I(we are not huge seafood fans) ordered the Blackened Chicken with Fettuccini Alfredo to share — OMG, this dish was DELICIOUS! Highly recommend! The Alfredo sauce must have also had some cheese melted and mixed in, the blended taste was SO good. Part of me wished that I had ordered another place just for myself. The other girls decided to order the seafood nachos(seemed to be a popular dish per other Unilocal reviews) and the fried green tomatoes. They convinced the other girl and I to try the seafood nachos, and after one small bite we were hooked(or at least I was, lol)! I think I ended up eating all of the leftovers, because the plate was so large the others couldn’t finish it all. The chips were all crispy(not too salty, which was perfect because the nacho sauce and toppings were soo flavorful!) The fried green tomatoes were okay, I had only taken a small bite so I can’t really comment on it too much. But I agree with other Unilocalers, GETTHESEAFOODNACHOS! We were seated at a large table in a room in the back — at first glance, we were a little iffy about how shady it looked, but it was fine. The waiter came in to check in on us periodically, and we were served fairly quickly.

If you are in the area I highly recommend ducking into this small storefront restaurant. Like I said, the inside isn’t huge but, we found a seat with ease and they also have bar seating as well. This is a really friendly place as we chatted with tourists and locals alike at other tables. After reading Unilocal reviews we decided to try the shrimp and crawfish nachos. I was expecting to have the seafood skimped on but, there was enough to put some on every bite of nacho. The crawfish was fresh as well as the shrimp but, I preferred the shrimp since the crawfish seemed under seasoned. The cheese sauce was so rich and creamy that you could make a meal out of this dish. I would recommend coming here for just this dish alone. I ordered the grilled tequila lime shrimp appetizer for my meal since we filled up on nachos. They were grilled to perfection and had that tangy slightly spicy bite one would expect. The sauce that is served with them was drinkable it was so well made. We left full and happy with our experience for the price point vs. quality of food, atmosphere, level of service all around and cleanliness of the bathrooms.

Great service. Delicious authentic French-creole/New Orleans grub. Really good bloody Mary’s. Perfect location to grab a tasty snack and a drink. Then another drink to walk around Royal Street.

Yeap 4 stars! We were there during the southern decadence craziness. It was an awesome time. We got their awesome bloody Mary’s, first time having those and I was hooked. Just the right amount of spice and tartness. We also ordered their seafood nachos: OMG, they were amazing! Nachos loaded with shrimp and crawfish! Highly recommended. I’ll definitely come back.

During our trip to the beautiful city of NOLA, we wanted to experience creole brunch. It was surprisingly quiet on a Saturday afternoon, maybe 5 tables taken. Good news is, we were seated right away. I had the shrimp and grits and my boyfriend had the breakfast po’ boy(eggs, cheese, bacon with a side of breakfast potatoes). Each dish came with FREE bottomless mimosas. Yes, you read right. FREE. BOTTOMLESS. Mimosas. Our waiter came around as soon as our flutes had 2 sips left and refilled us right at the table with the champagne bottle in one hand and OJ in the other. My shrimp and grits were out of this world. So much flavor my taste buds went into a frenzy. They had a different take on the grits which I appreciated. Our waiter explained the process: they’re cooked in a sheet pan then frozen. Then they cut them into hefty squares, cover them in batter and guess what? DEEPFRY them. Who would’ve thought? They give you a very generous serving and pour this phenomenal cheese sauce over everything to tie it all together. The contrast between the soft grits with the crispy crust combined with that cheese sauce and the shrimp? That was IT! On the other hand, my bf’s po’ boy was pretty standard and his breakfast potatoes tasted bland and microwaved. They served a really tiny portion compared to my massive dish. Overall, we enjoyed our brunch here. Service was great, food was good. Our waiter even filled our plastic cups to go for our last round.

Stumbled upon this place, we’re looking for some authentic Po boy. Weren’t disappointed! Place isn’t too big but has a good vibe to it; TVs in the walls, a big bar and cool staff. Drinks and food as depicted were delicious: the sausages were made to perfection and went well with the sauces. Finely balanced and spiced. The Po boy was good and traditional. Nothing I would brag about but the usual to expect, too much bread and not enough shrimp. Staff and service was good and the place fairly clean…
