I am a student journalist and I went to this store yesterday because my phone was on low battery and I needed some charge to finish my coverage of the UN protests happening nearby. I asked one of the two store owners if I could charge my phone. He said ok. And I replied«thank you so much.» To which he then said, but pay me $ 5. I was surprised. I said I would go somewhere else but thanks. And he said ok never mind you can charge it here, so I said thanks once again and this time, he replied, pay me $ 2. I was still going to leave because the whole situation felt weird and he said ok to letting me charge my phone after all when he saw my confused reaction. While my phone was charging I decided to buy an external phone charger. During this time a young woman walked in and the guy who asked me for money to charge my phone said he could help her. She said she preferred that the other employee assist her. So the other employee went to attend to her while the first man said to his coworker in Hindi(which I understand) how the woman was so beautiful but would not let him serve her. I was a little weirded out by how creepy these middle-aged men were acting. I bought the external charger, paid for it and asked if I could leave the external charger charging and come back in an hour(since the box recommended I use it at full charge, but the men at the store said to ignore the box). They said ok, so after paying for my charger and leaving it charging, I left back to the protests. I returned an hour later and thanked both men as I left back to report on my story when the external charger stopped working as I was walking away. So I took it back and this time one of the two owners said there was nothing wrong with it and plugged it in and it did in fact work… but then as soon as I left the store it stalled again. So I took it back. And he said«Hold on one second» took the external charger from me and with no explanation handed me back $ 21 for the $ 21.77 I paid for it. Frankly, I was relieved cause the whole experience was sketch and I would have never wanted to shop there. I found a Verizon store down the street which treated me with so much more respect and actually offered to charge my phone at their computer while they billed me for an external charger that actually worked. This is my first review for a business and I felt compelled to write it because for a person who has recently moved to NYC and was in a difficult situation, I was absolutely appalled by the behavior of the people at this business.
