Nice view and relaxing while we enjoy the weather and a good glass of wine Good spot to meet people before heading out to dinner

Corny, bad music. Overpriced wine and a dated look overall. They seem to be out of everything all of the time. For the price you have to pay for a glass of wine here they should have more consistency.

Cozy wine bar(brick interior wall, French door windows) and attentive staff. This is a good option if you are seeing a show at the Beacon. Adding more wines to «wines by the glass list» is my only suggest & reason for not giving this place another star. I would gladly return and recommend.

Wine on pricey side but love outside tables. Just the wine is in the pricey side four glasses of wine and one appetizer $ 90 is a little much. I have the cream spinach dip it seems like they opened up a box of cream spinach heated up and put in a bowl wasn’t impressed

Two days before moving away from New York, I stumbled upon this little spot after an afternoon wandering Central Park for a few hours. The outdoor seating area was really nice and selection was good as well. I was very impressed with their wine and cheese lists. They had great variety and a lot of specific types that I personally am a fan of. I had a spectacular cheese plate and two glasses of top notch bordeaux. The service left something to be desired though. The staff was very courteous but not attentive at all. I had to request a refill when I finished my glass of wine or water, and it took a bit of time for someone to come to my table when I first sat down even though I’d asked the bartender if it was alright for me to seat myself. They also were not very knowledgeable about the wine and food menu, they couldn’t give any recommendations on pairings or their favorite menu items which I found very odd.

Went to Wine and Roses with my sister for happy hour Friday night. To preface, the place was pretty empty(maybe 2 other customers). We were told to find a seat, however the tables are awkwardly small– the hard flimsy stools might require a short person to stand on to reach the table. As the restaurants prime demographic; a 20 something female, I felt as if the wait staff was extremely rude to us. Finally, after waiting 20 something minutes, a snarky waitress took our order looking annoyed. We each ordered a glass of the Rose, which was delicious, the cheese plate, and a bowl of mixed olives. To be fair, we were not pressured to get anything else. However, I regret leaving a tip for the waitress /presumably owner who was rude. I should have left it for the busboy who did all the work and was very nice. I won’t be returning unless I get a table outside on a warm day.

Very cute wine bar with friendly and efficient staff. Good selection of wine and food. Great outdoor seating area for when the weather is nice. Also great place for a date night or to catch up with friends. Would definitely come back and recommend.

Granted it was Wednesday evening so I wasn’t surprised the place was empty, but at the end of he evening I kinda understood why… First of all, terrible music selection. Britney? Eminem? 90’s pop chart? I don’t know what station they were on but this is a wine bar in the upper west side, not a sweet 16 party. Total vibe kill. When we asked the waitress about the bottle menu(since the menu only shows price per glass) she simply said, all bottles are priced as 4 glasses. No discounts anywhere so you might as well just order whatever glass you want. This is something I’ve never encountered before, once again — this is supposed to be a wine bar, they should encourage bottle orders perhaps? Cheese was very good, but portions did not justify the price. But the most annoying part, which totally ruined this place for us was when on the way out the waitress came up to us asking why we didn’t leave enough tip. Now I’ve lived in NY for 7 years, I know tipping customs, but granted we didn’t pay attention to the total tip amount. Turned out we left 13% on a 60 $ bill, and she literally felt the need to stop us on our way out and ask why we didn’t leave at least 15%. Now, the difference between 13−15% was like 2 $… Did she really feel the need to call us out on 2 $? Totally unnecessary… All in all, in an area with a ton of wine bars, this place really needs to step it up if they wanna stay in business…

Nice wine bar. I wish that they sold wine and not just champagne by the bottle. Great date spot, or just a place to hang with friends. Decent food too.

What a lovely, cozy, intimate restaurant – that also serves food much later than its neighbors. I went here with a rather large group(8 of us) after a Friday night movie. We knew this neighborhood could be tricky as far as finding a place where we could eat, drink, lounge, and just have a good time in a nice place. This place did all of those things. Not to mention, the service was superb. And the music! The music was actually a highlight. I ordered the ricotta artichoke pasta dish. The dish was a little too atichocke-y for me. as artichokes can have a quite distinct and salty flavor. However, they have quite the wine, beer, and cheese selection. Also, their pizzas looked amazing, and several people at my table ordered them and gobbled them up accordingly. I will definitely go back if I am on the UWS and need an open late, or just an intimate, cozy place to eat a few bites, have a few drinks, and kick back with folks. Next time, I may just stick to their wine and cheese. And throw in a pizza if I’m hungry.

We were very disappointed by our dining experience at Wine and Roses, especially since it had been on my «Places to Check Out in the Neighborhood» list for quite a while. Finally went on a warm evening recently and sat at a table outside. Our server was disinterested but went through the motions pleasantly enough. There were problems with the service though, and we felt the quality of the food didn’t reflect the prices we were paying. We ordered a cheese plate, a salumi plate, and two pasta dishes. When we ordered we clearly said that we wanted to START with the meat and cheese plates, and then have the pasta. It should have been common sense to course it out that way anyway, especially with how small those outside tables are. But instead everything was sent out to us at once. We talked about sending the pasta back until we had finished the meat and cheese, but decided we didn’t want to eat pasta that had been sitting under a heat lamp for 15 – 20 minutes, because we knew perfectly well they weren’t going to remake it if we sent it back. You definitely get the feeling that customer satisfaction isn’t high on this company’s priority list. So we ended up having an uncomfortable meal on an overcrowded table and eating everything all at once so the pasta wouldn’t get too cold, which of course it did. The whole thing kind of ruined the leisurely meal we were looking forward to. As far as the food itself… Meh. Nothing was awful, but nothing was overly tasty or memorable. It was all pretty forgettable, actually, and extremely over-priced for what it was. They are not using the best quality ingredients. The cheeses and meats could have come from Trader Joe’s or Westside Market, and the pasta dishes were fine but nothing special. Not a lot in the bowl either, and they were very skimpy with the sausage that came with one of them. The wine was good, but how can you mess up a bottle of wine? Atmosphere was all right, piped in Frank Sinatra style tunes that you’ve heard a hundred times and evokes a sort of dinosaur ambiance. Water refills were hard to come by, our server was not very attentive, and we waited quite a while for her to appear so we could ask for the check at the end of our meal. Overall we left feeling not too thrilled about having spent so much money on such poor service and mediocre food. Maybe fine for a glass of wine but if you’re looking for a nice dinner I would definitely not recommend this place.

How to Lose a Customer 101: We had just finished a late lunch a hour or so earlier, but wanted to have a few drinks so we stopped here yesterday at about 4PM. Limited, but great wine selection. I’ve had the food here other times and it’s always hit the spot. We started out with a bottle red Zinfandel — it was exactly what we were looking for on an overcast, somewhat starting to get chillly day. If you’re going to have one red Zinfandel on the menu, this was a great job by them to offer it. The bottle was $ 68, not terrible. Once my girlfriend and I knocked that out, we asked for a recommendation and the waitress brought out two wines for us to taste. We went with the Du Pape, which was again a good choice by whoever put the wine list together. But here is my problem; we had six glasses of the Du Pape, and we were charged for each one. I don’t expect a buy back in a place like this, but most places would switch us to the bottle price, and not charge us for all six glasses individually. Or even the bottle price and an additional glass. So $ 68 for the bottle of red Zin, and $ 102 for the six glasses of the Du Pape, the last $ 218 we will spend in this place. And I’m not going to get into what conversation happened outside while we were there, but dude, if you’re the owner, don’t you think that kind of conversation is better had inside in an office perhaps, and not in front of customers. No one wants to hear that pathetic shit.

I just stopped here after a nice little run and got a glass(well.2) of sparkling wine. I also ordered a margherita pizza that was less than stellar. Actually, it wasn’t good at all. However, the hostess made up for it. The cook wasn’t in yet but they were still able to make some things… goodie! But it didn’t come out great :-(He knew it and took off my second glass of sparkling wine AND gave me a note to come back another time for a FREE and better tasting pizza. Sounds good to me! He said he wanted to make sure I’d come back. The sparkling wine was great and I was able to sit outside. I’ll come back to see if they’ve improved on the pizza front.

It’s with sadness that I have to update this review. For a place that had such great promise 2 years ago. Yes it’s romantic but if you and your mate are puking from the food it really puts a damper on the«romance.» I went back 2 weeks ago and wow has service and the food fell off. Let me say this — I got violently sick from the food. Not sure if it was the truffle Mac and cheese or the unforgettably abysmal pizza. Moreover, they increased their prices significantly to the point where the prices don’t match the establishment. Here’s my point — Who’s going to pay $ 20+ for really bad flatbread pizza? It’s flatbread with canned tomato sauce spread on top. Really bad tomato sauce at that. Bottom line… Wine and Roses is good for just that — Wine and Roses.

Pretty standard wine bar. You can tell a lot of couples and small groups meet here to catch up. The bartender had decent recommendations, though for whatever reason, he did not seem very interested in talking to us in depth about wine, which I tend to like more. The food that came out of the kitchen looked awesome, though. I wish we had come here for dinner instead! Something with truffle smelled amazing, and the cheese plate looked substantial. I’d come back again.

People in NYC are cray. I mean, who goes to a wine bar on a Sunday night? Oh, that’s right, this gal here. Okay, then, I’m cray, too. What I love about living in UWS and NYC for that matter, is that, on any given day/night, there’s always something to do. In fact, there’s always so much to do, it’s really difficult to try to limit yourself to just one event at a time. I was taken here for a belated birthday wine + dessert night. Awwwwwww, sweeter? :) I had 2 glasses of this rich, bold cabernet. Don’t remember the label(because I was so not paying attention to that). And for the«birthday part,» a beautiful, fancy, molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice-cream. Again, awwwwwww, sweeter? The place is lovely. Tons of wine selection, reasonably priced, the décor is sexy and inviting. I loved that they played the most random music… like alternative music circa early 2000’s? I wanted to stay longer, but because I knew, I had to get up really early the following morning(my stay at Wine + Roses) was cut a little too soon. I will definitely come back. Next time, I want to try the small plates. I heart you, UWS. I don’t think I could be happier living anywhere else. :)

If you liked this place, your either, rich or you didn’t eat anything here. AWFUL. From the bad service, to the outrageous prices(seriously, I work at a place like the lounges in meatpacking – since im not gonna say where i work… i’ll leave it at that) and their wine was more expensive than ours. For the UWS thats obnoxious. And there wasn’t much selection by the glass. The food was HORRIBLE!!! Do not eat the pizza. Who puts marscapone cheese on pizza?! The filet mingon pizza tasted like a bad hamburger from mcdonalds. And the load of salad on top is crazy. You can’t even cut it with a fork and knife let alone pick it up. It’s LOUD, small, crowded and full of drunk 30 – 40 somethings who were probably frat and sorority college kids. If you want to go spend alot of money to try and impress a date, go ahead. But if the girl isn’t a huge douche, she won’t like this place.

Great place for a glass of wine w/a friend or 2. Not a bog place. Seating outside which is so nice. Service was OK. Had a wine that really wasn’t good and had to get another Inside the bar is quite small and crowded. Food OK. Overpriced. Hummus and pita was pretty good. Will come again for a nice glass and good atmosphere in the Summer when we can be outside.

I was looking for a place to have a light meal before I went to a supervision session at the William Alanson White institute so I decided to come here. It was just a block away and I’ve heard that it was a good place. They had a $ 283 course prix fixe dinner until 7pm so I figured why not. They also had $ 21 wine flights. Again, why not? It’s a great value and they were generous with the portions. For starters I chose the cheese and charcuterie plate(3.5 stars for Originality, 4 stars for Presentation, 4.5 stars for Taste) and it came with 2 hard, 2 soft cheese of pretty good quality with grapes and slices of bread. I followed that with what I expected to be a small personal size pizza but I was surprised with what could have easily fed 2 people! The filet mignon topped pizza with arugula(O: 4 stars, P: 4 stars, T: 4 stars) had a nice thin crust topped with arugula and slices of filet mignon. My only complaint was that the arugula was too plenty it overwhelmed the dish in presentation. For dessert I had the red velvet lava cake(O: 4 stars, P: 4 stars, T: 3.5 stars) which was good but didn’t produce oohs and ahs from me. The wine selection is excellent and I was happy with my flight of 4 wines. The interior is appropriately dimly lit and intimate with small high tables and a central bar. When I went the weather was nice enough to eat outside so that’s what I did. The service could be better. My server was attentive and helpful but they timed the serving poorly. I had a long wait between the starter and the main but the dessert came when I wasn’t even done with my pizza. If I weren’t thinking of taking half of the pizza home that would have been a problem since the cake is served warm along with ice cream. So the service gets only 3 stars from me. All in all though, the food was very good, and it would serve me well as a great wine bar in that area.
