Really wanted to try this out given the high reviews and good pics on Unilocal. So I ordered through seamless for lunch. The lunch bowl priced at $ 14 is so tiny in size and little meat inside! It’s smaller than an appetizer tuna Tatar in a regular restaurant yet misleadingly named as a bowl for lunch option.(Attached the photo of the bowl compared to a CD disk). Very disappointed with the quantity with the price charged. It’s so over priced…

The sushi burrito was everything we expected and more. The fish was fresh and the ingredients together in a burrito style was a burst of goodness. Yum! It was just hard to enjoy the sushi with no heat! Yes no heat! The working conditions were inhumane. It was 16 degrees today in New York and there was no heat turned on. The staff was a delight and able to deliver exceptional customer service but it is a shame they are working under such conditions.

I knew the sushi burrito had to be too gimmicky to be true, and sure enough, it’s not really worth it. That’s not to say it’s bad — it’s just about the same level as your average cheap sushi place. The fish is pretty bland, and the ingredients don’t seem to blend together correctly. The burrito is mostly rice, and kind of annoying to eat(expect a decent part of your fillings to fall out the end, and the last few bites will be awkward and messy). To be fair, I would probably come here for lunch every once in a while if I worked or lived in the area. Like I said, it’s not bad, and it fills that sushi craving pretty cheaply(the burrito filled me up for lunch, although it was mostly rice). But it’s really not worth coming out of your way for it.

I go here ALLTHETIME. The burritos are a great alternative to regular sushi, and the portions are great. Expect to pay $ 11 – 13 per burrito, which is definitely worth it. Plenty of options to mix and match, and the sauces are great. They can be a little messy, but most of the employees know how to wrap them well enough. So filling. Yes, it can be busy at times, but the staff is usually really friendly and efficient.

I pass this place going to/from work all the time and was stoked to try the sushirito. Have to say it was pretty disappointing. Like other reviewers, they went light on the fish and heavy on the veggies. Rice was super dry — probably because it was nearly closing time. Didn’t have too much of a mess, though my burrito did start falling apart pretty early. Don’t think I’ll be going back, at least for the sushirito. I had the hand rolls here which are much better.

Amazing food! I have to say the sushi(burrito) is the best I’ve ever had, with rich sauce, fresh veggies, and flavorful crab and salmon meat. Any of the 3 choices were great. The atmosphere is cute and modernized too, although the it’s much smaller than I expected! The only reason I didn’t give it 4 stars and above is because the nasty cashiers and servers, not only did they make me feel they don’t want to work there, but also that they have absolutely no respect for their costumes. I will go back for the food but will never expect ANYTHING from the service

I’ve been here twice. At first, I thought the missteps were from being a new establishment. However, I think there needs to be a change in management and execution. The concept is good. The food would be great if executed corrected. I got the sushi burrito(Uma Rito) and the surly employee huffed when I ordered it. I was the only person in there. When I asked to pay for Levelup(which is posted on their window) the employee just glared at me and said that it doesn’t work. Not sure if that’s Levelup’s problem, so I let that slide. The burrito itself was 90% rice. The ingredients were there, but it wasn’t great the way it was prepared. Also, they were playing hardcore hip hop with N words and profanity laced lyrics. Not something I want to hear on a lazy Sunday. I would be wary to bring kids in here just for that.

Subpar all around. I’ve been here 5 times now to give them multiple chances, and each next time was worse than the last. Today I went back because I got an email from LevelUp saying that Uma put $ 2 in my account because I haven’t been back in a while. Figured I’d get an afternoon snack(their portions are so small that I’d never call anything there a meal) with the discount. Well, after I already had my burrito wrapped and was at the register — turns out they no longer have LevelUp. Nice bait and switch. The burritos each time are underwhelming. I just get their on-menu Uma-Rito option. The employees have been the same for a while now yet every time they make my burrito they’re so clumsy with it that it looks like it’s their first day. Even today, they ripped the seaweed wrap when rolling and I had a broken burrito that was falling apart when I held it to eat. A mess. The place is also always dirty and even their trays look all nasty and stained/rusted. Very poor presentation. Not worth $ 10. There are tons of better options nearby for that price, and with large portions and more flavor at that.

While I would give my experience a 2, I will boost it a star because my friend absolutely loved his. I’ve heard great things about Uma but when I visited the storefront actually shocked me a little bit. It didn’t seem clean and orderly — and since I was ordering raw fish I would hope to be welcomed into a better environment. I ordered the O-Maki sushi burrito. Kind of like in chipotle burritos when you get that one hunk of sour cream, I got one hunk of wasabi — yikes. It needs some type of cream/sauce to add flavor and make it less dry. The cool thing about Uma is you have the option to customize and make your own sushi. My friend chose his own ingredients which made for a much better meal. If you go, DOTHAT.

Sushi burrito — so damn good. Expensive, but good! Not as big as I was hoping for the money, but if you can shell out $ 15 for lunch, the taste is worth it!

I’ve always been intrigued by the sushi burrito concept and when I saw this at the Gotham Market, I had to try it. To my disappointment, it was a waste of stomach space. Firstly, there was only one employee who worked as a cashier AND ‘sushi chef’, so being that it was close to lunch time, it took about 30 minutes to get one sushi burrito(not the greatest management decision). I believe I had the Uma-rito and it just wasn’t good. Not enough fish, overload on carrots, sauce was boring, and the rice didn’t taste fresh. Pass on this one.

Unfortunately I can’t get behind this one. Hand rolls are stuffed with too much rice and the salmon was not fresh. The crab roll was nothing to write home about either. There was something offsetting about the way the crab tasted. The only thing I enjoyed was the ginger wasabi.

Cheers for bringing the sushi burrito to NYC! No longer must I gaze at Sushirrito photos with envy, praying to the sushi gods for a sushirrito in the city. Uma Temakeria isn’t as catchy as Sushirrito, but I suppose I can forgive them for the less cute name. I’ve ordered sushi burritos(They call them«protein burritos.») from Uma twice now, once with extra salmon and once without. Besides the extra salmon, I ordered the same thing both times: salmon+crab for the proteins, seaweed salad+cucumber for the veg, tobanjan mayo for the sauce, and sesame seeds+scallions for the«topping.»(They go inside, not on top.) The first time I had ordered the extra salmon and it was everything I expected it to be. Scrumptious, savory, melt-in-my-mouth raw salmon accompanied with the crunchy cucumber, the nutty sesame, and soft nori. I was surprised, because I noticed a lot of other reviews claimed that their burritos were skimped on, but mine certainly wasn’t. The next time I ordered it without the extra salmon and I understood exactly what those reviewers were complaining about. My majestic sushirrito had suddenly transformed into a glorified rice log. There were parts of my burrito in which I could take a large bite and ONLY eat the seaweed and rice. That. really should not happen. When I order the temaki here and regular sushi elsewhere, I expect to be able to taste the fish with every bite, which I don’t think is an unreasonable expectation. The flavors are definitely there when you do manage to eat some of the stuffing, but you can’t always get to it. I ended up unrolling my burrito and eating it as a messy chirashi because I wasn’t enjoying the mouthfuls of rice. I mentioned the crab earlier, and it’s worth mentioning again(in a bad way). My burrito had this odd, sour lemony flavor to it which did not belong in my harmonious selection of toppings and proteins. I took apart my burrito and tasted each component separately, trying to find the culprit, and I believe the crab is the offender. Please do not put lemon or whatever that flavoring is in the crab! Also, the crab itself was nearly flavorless or maybe too masked by that lemon flavor. I have canned crab that has more flavor than this. The burritos fall apart easily and I noticed this both times I ordered mine. You’ve gotta eat this sitting down and over a plate, because it WILL fall apart, whether its the seaweed tearing and letting all the goodness out or the veggies being squeezed out the other end. This isn’t a complaint by any means — I certainly don’t order a burrito at Chipotle expecting it to be a neat endeavor. I merely hope to prevent sushirrito crises by unsuspecting diners. I checked in for the free lemonade while I was there, but the lemonade was too sour. I’m glad it was free because I won’t be ordering that in the future. Still, check in for the lemonade because, hey, it’s free lemonade. Sour lemonade is better than no lemonade. I will be back for more sushi burritos, but this time I’m returning to my original order with the extra salmon. It would be nice if the base burrito included the extra salmon already(along with the appropriate price increase) and if sushirrito fanatics wanted even more salmon they could order the extra, because right now it feels like the base burrito is lacking in protein which is echoed by several other reviews. P. S. Their Seamless menu is more expensive than their regular menu. The customizable protein burrito is $ 12 base on Seamless, but the take-out menu I grabbed when I picked up my order claims $ 10.

I’ve been dying to try Uma Temakeria and I’ve noticed many people have been visiting recently. I finally decided to stop by last weekend as I was in the area. The concept is awesome I’ve gotta give it to Uma Temakeria. It’s a convenient, fast and innovative way to have sushi. I decided to order a spicy tuna burrito. The fish does sit out where they make the hand rolls and burritos, which did freak me out a little bit. I would think that needs to be refrigerated. Watching them make it was kind of cool though. When first having a bite of my burrito it tasted alright. As I continued to eat the burrito it honestly just wasn’t really that great at all. Honestly it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t good. It kind of reminded me of eating supermarket sushi. I did end up getting a great shot of my burrito and it was a big hit on Instagram. I’m assuming that’s why this place is so popular… The food they make does happen to be very aesthetically pleasing.

Got the chirashi bowl. Serving of brown rice is measured exactly at 3 scoops. You can choose up to 3 kinds of protein but each will only come in 3 skimpy slices. It doesn’t matter which sauces you choose because they all taste like light mayo. I am a huge fan of their seaweed salad. The whole bowl is overall very clean and healthy tasting. But you can get a much better deal and tastier dishes at Beyond Sushi in Chelsea Market.

My friend saw this place on Instagram so we decided to try the«sushi-rrito». We both had the Uma-rrito and it turned out to be pretty good. It’s actually nothing burrito about it except the shape, but it’s like a giant sushi roll, with good flavors. I really like the white rice. The«Design Your Own» sushi burrito options looks better than the chef’s choices, I’ll design my own next time.

Not as good as the Sushirrito chain in San Francisco, but a helluva lot closer to home. The setup is a lot like the Sushirrito chain in San Francisco, but they only have 3 choices for sushirritos and only the uma-rito seemed to have much fish. Once again, a sushirrito was pretty much just a large, uncut sushi roll. But the construction of this particularly sushirrito was terrible. It fell apart very easily. Construction was also inconsistent, since my friend had ordered one too. His was smaller, and cut in half diagonally. Mine was larger and cut in half horizontally. They don’t really specialize in making sushirritos. It tasted pretty good though, but the fish was mostly overwhelmed by everything else. Try it if you want a sushirrito without going to the west coast.

I’ve officially tried every type of sushi offering Uma has and had it not been for my experience today this rating would probably be 2(maybe 1) stars instead of 3. I guess that old saying«third time’s a charm» still has some validity? My first time trying something from Uma’s was at Madison Square Eats and I left rather disappointed. I got a tuna and salmon handroll with the spicy cucumber side dish. Both rolls were soggy with flavorless fish. The spicy cucumber thing was disgusting, basically some cucumbers sitting in a tabasco type of soup. Very unappetizing to look at and practically inedible. $ 14 for some items I was VERY displeased with and I made a silent promise to never return to Uma. THEN a few months later a girlfriend dragged me to the establishment. I wasn’t looking forward to it considering my last run-in had gone so poorly, but I decided to humor her. I strayed from the handrolls and decided to order one of their chirashi bowls. I got brown rice with salmon and tuna. They put 8 slices of protein per order(or so they told me), so no matter how many types you order you wind up with the same amount. For my toppings I got carrots, green apples, cucumber, and seaweed salad with avocado lime and wasabi ginger sauce. I was pretty pleased with my bowl aesthetically, it looked very healthy as well as having some pretty hefty portions, however taste-wise it was a bit lacking. I chose to ignore the fact that some of the seaweed salad had turned black/brown from age. I wouldn’t necessarily describe the fish as «bad quality» but they were tasteless. Eyes closed I couldn’t tell the difference between the tuna and the salmon. Of my two sauces I definitely preferred the avocado lime, the wasabi ginger didn’t have a lot going on. I did leave the store full, but not very satisfied, it’d been a pretty forgettable meal and I made yet another vow to not come back. BUTTHEN it turns out I won a free meal for two from their instagram contest(#temakitakeover for you fellow IGers). I couldn’t pass up free food so I decided to haul my cookies back to the establishment the very next day. I wound up waiting for my friend for a good half hour and I was actually surprised by how hospitable the servers were being. Offering me water and asking me if I needed anything, I hadn’t even mentioned the free meal thing, I honestly just looked like a bum chilling in their store. Impressive guys. When my friend arrived I got the details of the prize and essentially it was any order and any drink that our little hearts desired. Way to go Uma, that is some A+ marketing. We both decided on sushi burritos and having learned from my experience the day before I got it with brown rice, salmon, avocado lime sauce, cucumber, green apple, and seaweed salad. This thing was PACKED with everything I wanted. So much so that the guy rolling it was struggling. My friend got the same thing but with avocado and ginger miso sauce. This was the first time where my fish actually had a taste and it was pretty good, perhaps they just received a new shipment? The burrito didn’t hold together very well considering it was open ended, but I actually didn’t lose that much of it in the eating process. I was actually surprised by how long it did hold together considering I was taking my sweet time to eat it. The sushi burrito was definitely the highlight of all my trips to Uma Temakeria and I would probably go back for it. This place has its hits and misses and it’s up to you decide if you want to risk it or not.

Uma Temakeria specializes in temaki, or a large cone-shaped roll with nori on the outside and the ingredients(raw fish, rice, and vegetables like carrots, cucumbers, etc.) spilling out the wide end. Uma Temakeria recently launched sushi burrito, which is massively popular in the Bay Area. I had the custom-made sushi burrito($ 10). You choose an ingredient at each step, starting with Step 1, white or brown rice. You choose the proteins in step 2. They allow you to pick up to 2, including Yellowfin Tuna, Atlantic Salmon, Marinated Tofu, Zesty Tofu, Seasonal Fish, or Fresh Crab for additional $ 2. The sauce(also up to 2) comes in Step 3, ranging from Ginger Miso to Wasabi Ginger to Avocado Lime. Finally, you can choose up to 3 veggies like carrot, celery, cucumber, red pepper, etc. I liked the idea of being able to customize your own sushi burrito. The portion is decent for the price, and the fish is fresh. These must be eaten pretty fast because the seaweed gets soggy.

Decided to take a train ride on my lunch break to try out Uma’s new sushi burrito. Long line as expected, but certainly not worth it. If you’re expecting something similar to California’s Sushirrito, you will be disappointed. This is a loosely wrapped regular sized maki sushi roll before being sliced into pieces. Ingredients tasted fresh, service was just fine, just very disappointing considering the hype for NYC’s first sushi burrito.
