Nice atmosphere, decent food, could have been warmer, but good flavor., fabulous bartender. On the quiet side for being so close to times square(as I’d asked of concierge of hotel). May give better review when I try again, which is a strong possibility.

I went there to meet a Friend for Lunch, it was a last minute decision. The friend I was meeting for lunch had already dined there so she recommended that I give it a try. The food was okay, the service was as expected, and location was perfect. I just think from what you get the prices could be a bit lower, the portions are very small. I did like their rustic décor. I will go back I am sure, maybe right before I catch a matinée on Broadway.

So, this was our first meal for the family of 5 in NYC. We’d been driving for 8 hrs and had dinner at 10 upon arrival. Service was fast. Bread rolls were just okay and seemed bought, not baked as expected. Loved the sun dried tomato infused EVOO which had a tartness & sweet finish to it. Calamari was almost crisp :-(, but wife enjoyed it nonetheless. I think the surprising, delicious guilty pleasure was the saltiness of the pastas and sauces. My linguine pomodoro was well sauced, but the underlying saltiness of the linguine itself made it taste all the better. Do not miss the vegetarian pasta fagioli. The petite cannelloni beans make it! Very very flavorful.

Some of my girlfriends and I went here for the first time before seeing a show. The food was delicious and at an affordable price. They have a lunch special for about $ 20 that you can take advantage of, particularly if you are in a rush. I had the grilled chicken breast with herbs and sauteed spinach. Loved the atmosphere. Very quaint. Tables are a little close together, so if you don’t mind bumping elbows while you break bread, you’ll be fine. :-) Restrooms were very clean. Interesting side note… the waiter brought our salads out first but we noticed that it was taking a long time for our entrees to come out. Turns out, the waiter didn’t want to bring them out yet because it looked like I hadn’t finished my salad. 0_o I get the logic. He probably didn’t want me to feel rushed, but the others in my party were clearly done. He could have simply asked if we were ready for the next course. Just saying… But overall, a very good first time experience.

BEWAREBEWAREBEWAREBEWARE! Bait and switch! At 11am today my co-worker and I looked at their prix fixe menu online and saw 3 courses for $ 19.95. House salad(no choice there, which was fine), a selection of 2 courses for the entrée and«dessert of the day» for dessert. To be fair, the food was OK. Not particularly creative, but quite allright. Nice atmosphere. So after we finish our entrees we are asked if we want the dessert menu. We think, of course, because it’s included in the price. Each dessert had a price next to it so we ask our waitress. She said, «The prix fixe lunch is only 2 courses now.» I explain that 2 hours ago, on their website, it stated 3 courses. She said — no. No I’m sorry. No explanation. No. We order dessert and coffee. Bill comes and without tip it is $ 40.00 per person. Not the $ 19.95 that drew us in. Bait and switch. On the way out I see an older gentleman and ask if he is the manager. Yes he is. I explain the situation. He nods knowingly and said, «Ah yes, that’s an old website with the old menu.» That was the explanation. End of story. No I’m sorry. I said, «Yes, but it’s still your website and until you change it you should honor the price.» His response was silly and frankly I didn’t hear a good portion of it because I left. Here’s the link: Beware — it really is bait and switch. They get you in for a $ 19.953 course lunch and you wind up paying double, and that doesn’t even include the tip. I’m a NY’er. There are MUCHBETTER Italian restaurants in Times Square. And more honest ones too. Never again! UPDATE: Today is 5÷7÷14 and guess what? The 3 course $ 19.95 lunch is still posted! BEWARE — Bait & Switch at work here! What weasels these people are.

Food is good but not great at Trattoria Dopo Teatro. The ambiance is, as expected for the theater district, loud and bustling, but they manage to make the place seem quaint and rustic. I would have given Trattoria Dopo Teatro a three– or four-star review, but the service was TERRIBLE. The hostess was abrupt and rude. Our server was rushed and rude. The food came out five minutes after we ordered it, which felt like it was crossing the line between efficient and hurried. My wife’s order was wrong(she ordered one Tagliatelle and received another). When the waiter took an order at the table next to us, he stuck his butt right in my face and bumped me several times without any care. And once our meal was completed, it took five times longer for anyone to check with us, clear the dishes and deliver the check than it took to actually bring us the food after ordering.(We had wanted dessert but gave up as the time waiting for the indifferent server dragged on.) The 25 minutes of being ignored at the end of the meal was the cherry on top of the terrible service sundae. It may be tough to find a good restaurant with reasonable service in this area, but there are enough options that I would not choose to return to Trattoria Dopo Teatro after our mediocre experience.

Yeah, this was a decent Italian restaurant. It would be a good spot to meet up with people or if I had to catch a Broadway show quick, but otherwise, I think I’d go elsewhere. The reason I was even at this place was because it was a block away from Town Hall where hubby and I were seeing a show. The food was OK. The service, rushed. We needed to eat and go, but we didn’t have to be out *that* fast. I like to enjoy my food a little more. Oh, and whatever that back room is, DON’T eat there in the winter! It’s an outdoor add-on or something and really cold! The drafts were so bad that when our food arrived, you could see the steam all blowing in one direction. I had to put a sweater on AND my wool scarf. Brrr! If you work nearby and are looking for a decent happy-hour place, I’d recommend it. They had a nice bar when you walked it. Could be a fun spot.

Not sure why it’s just 3 stars on average, but that may be due to NYC competition. I found the prices to be reasonable, the salad and pasta I had to be excellent, and the service very attentive and friendly. I’ve forgotten the name of the pasta dish, but it was perfectly prepared al dente in a decadent cream sauce with bacon, onion, eggs and I believe the name to be fettuccine ala carbonara. However, it wasn’t what I expected of fettuccine. Shows I’m not an expert in Italian cuisine. What I do know is their Caesar salad was a generous portion, the parmigiana cheese was excellent and generously shared, and the croutons had a rich flavor. The pasta dish was too much for me to finish and I LOVE pasta. The bacon and cream were a great blend and nothing was overpowering. Traveling alone, I ate at the bar and watched the theater crowd come and go. The service was great and their limited selection of house wines by the glass was supported by a solid selection of wines by the bottle.(I didn’t have a bottle, just for the record.) My family had been here a few weeks ago due to its proximity to the Theater District and Times Square, but I will be back because of the food and service.

We had Thanksgiving Dinner while in NYC here(there were 7 of us including 4 children). They had a good traditional turkey dinner and the service was very attentive. The children ordered pizza, which they devoured, instead of turkey. It is hard to rate them off a holiday experience but we were satisfied.

terrible service and they still put a tip in your bill. Probably were afraid i wouldnt leave any tip after that WHATEVER service. Nobody asked me what i thought about the bad wine i was served and nobody asked me if my food was good. i had no napkin all the time, and i had almost to stand and start waaving my arms to get a menu and my order taken. i hope my friend never insist me to go there again

Went with a group of 6 people only because my girlfriend had a $ 200 gift certifcate to this place. Here’s the reason for the 2 star rating: Ordered the house sauvignon blanc & pinot grigio and had to send it back. It was probably the cheapest wine I’ve ever tasted. Very shocked they would serve such low quality wine considering the price they charged for a glass. Service was ridiculoulsy slow. Our group ordered salads, calamari, risotto and pasta. No need for the 30+ minute wait for our entrees. The food was extraordinarily boring. My friend’s salad literally only had arugula and provolone cheese shreds on it. That’s it. If you like good quality italian food, this place is NOT for you.

I’m going to give this one a 4, just because I’m feeling generous. Really it’s more like a 3 ½. The wine list is mostly italian wines, most out of my price range. Decent italian food right in the heart of the theater district.

Trattatoria Dopo Teatro is a good choice for pre-theater dinners and more casual business lunches. It’s calm and faux rustic setting feels cozy and allows for more intimate conversation rather than shouting over your neighbors at a more crowded restaurant. The location is convenient for many things, so I can see it being pretty popular for evening crowds. I arrived early for lunch and had no wait. They also are great about reservations. The menu has a good amount of selection and the portions are sizable. I enjoyed a spinach salad with pears and the risotto of the day, which included shrimp and peas. The salad was fresh and had a very creamy pungent cheese. The risotto was gigantic and flavored well, but got a bit bland after halfway. I didn’t sample desserts, but they sounded good. Service was good, but nothing remarkable. They did everything we could expect. Price is okay, especially for the prix fixe. and quality good. Overall, the experience is okay, but may be unremarkable.

Came here with a colleague to get 2,000 open table points and we were not disappointed I ordered from the Prefix lunch menu while my friend ordered fish off the regular lunch menu. Food was decent and I really enjoyed the décor. The only thing that I had an issue with was our waitress which is why they lost a star. First, she corrected my colleague on their pronunciation of a dish and actually mispronounced it herself (we are both in catering). Then she kept coming back constantly and interrupting our business lunch to check in on us. Although I do appreciate attentive service and she was very nice, it was a little overbearing and ended up interrupting our conversation on multiple occasions. Overall a nice spot to enjoy a NYC lunch(our bill was $ 100 with gratuity) and I would visit again but maybe for a more social gathering rather than business

My mom really likes this place for some reason. I think her living out in Flushing for the past 20+ years, where Italian food is hard to find, probably has something to do with it. I’ve been here twice within the past year, the most recent time being a few weekends ago with my siblings and our mother. We all shared the mozzarella alla caprese appetizer, which was pretty standard. We all got different pasta dishes. I got the porcini mushroom fettuccine dish, which was also pretty standard. Everybody seemed to have enjoyed their meals, so nothing to complain about really. There are far better Italian places in this city, though.

I came here for lunch with some coworkers during the week, and was pleasantly surprised! The décor is cozy and cute. I started with a mesculun green salad in their house vinegar and olive oil. It was decent, although I did ask for the dressing on the side and it came already tossed into the salad. They also brought us a bread basket — the bread was a bit soggy. Boo. All 3 of us wound up going with pizza, I got the mozzarella, gorgonzola, pears, and prosciutto. It was really, REALLY good. Sweet and savory at the same time with a crispy crust. My coworkers got the Margherita and the tomato, mozzarella and spicy salami and they both enjoyed theirs very much. The pizzas are pretty large for one person — I was able to take half of it home and have the leftovers for lunch the next day. One of my coworkers wound up getting dessert — some kind of caramel-flavored flan-like thing that tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for a couple days. Meh. The 3 stars is mostly for the pizza — I would definitely be back for that.

I had a bad feeling about this place the moment I saw it’s store front. First they advertised that they served breakfast, but didn’t put up a breakfast menu outside, unlike their dinner and lunch menu which was clearly displayed. Second they boasted several awards on their windows, of course it didn’t have Unilocal’s certified red sticker(BAHAHA). And lastly the place was deserted. Michael Pena(who looks exactly like the actor and could very well be him) came up and greeted us with a menu. Sadly, the food was expensive but believing that there was a great experience and great meal behind the price, we were fooled. My fritata was dryly prepared, it lacked in condiments and my potatoes were cold. I enjoyed my salad though and was satisfied since I wanted a really light breakfast. But my mom’s dish, which was pancetta and eggs, was just as cold as my main dish. Furthermore they advertised it as PANCETTA and served us BACON. After non stop bickering between Michael Pena and my mom, I sat there fiddling through my iphone to look things up on Wikipedia. FACT: PANCETTA is a form of BACON, in that it is strictly pork belly and went through a particular curing process in order to keep a marbling process. But were we served ITALIAN Bacon? No, it was store bought generic stuff. I would have almost applauded them if they served us CANADIANBACON, but instead it was the dry-ass stuff they serve in public pancake breakfasts. Do they even have pancake breakfasts in NYC? Probably not but I’ll stick to this analogy.. It was clearly an attempt to make their dishes sound fancy when it was just as generic as Sunday brunch special at Denny’s. Really disappointed considering how fancy this Italian restaurant made itself out to be.

We went here the first night we were in NYC and the hotel concierge recommended it to us. It was packed but we didn’t have to wait because the concierge made reservations for us. The food was decent, but I don’t know, I guess this place was just really your typical tourist trap and charged ridiculous prices for food that was just OK. Yes, I was a tourist too but I much prefer places that are sort of out of the mainstream areas and more unique to the the city… the little gems so to speak. This place was really crowded and comparable to Olive Garden. I ordered the pumpkin ravioli which was tasted good but was a very small portion size. The table also ordered the salmon and the linguini with seafood and tomato sauce which was good according to the people who ate those dishes. I probably wouldn’t go back here. There are so many other Italian restaurants that are much more authentic and tasty than here. And again, for the food you get the prices were ridiculous. $ 18 for 8 or 9 raviolis that were good tasting but nothing especially distinctive and special?

It’s probably one of the first Italian restaurants I’ve ever eaten at in Manhattan and the food is not the greatest, but not the worst either. It’s a nice cozy spot where you can take a date or enjoy a nice quiet meal with some friends. The atmosphere is quiet and not of the bustling nature of New York or Times Square. It’s a small unassuming restaurant in the Theatre District with good service, decent food. I’ve been here 3 times and each time never disappointed based on my expectations. But in the end, New York is a big city and there are many Italian restaurants to go to. I DO like the fact that Trattoria has 2 floors though and the ability to cater to large parties. Unfortunately, the food just isn’t spectacular like other Italian spots in the city.
