Went here for the restaurant week special — 3 course meal with a glass of wine for $ 48? Not bad at all. Their steaks and soups are very good. My only knock against Post House is that I had dirty silverware(actual food not a smudge or anything). Outside of that, though, the ambience is great for just about every occasion and you feel comfortable slighly casual or dressed up.

Been some time since I was here, but I wanted to get in a review before it re-emerges from a redo under some other name. This fancy/pricey restaurant on the Upper East Side of New York is a nice treat. The tables are far enough apart that you are not eating off each others table, and they have wonderful steaks that won’t put you in the poor house ala Peter Lugars over in Brooklyn. The dining room is long and narrow, the service is old-world(sometimes spotty), and the clientele is generally grey-haired. But all that said, this restaurant with its special location just off Central Park is well worth going to for a special occasion. Nothing really for kids here… and dress up or business is really the norm. Did I mention they have nice steaks… if you go that’s what you order. It is a steak house and a fine one. They closed for remodeling in 2013 and may or may not reopen again as the Post House. If and when they do reopen, I’ll give them another try. They will have the same location and if they keep the same food quality, it will be fun returning.

I literally feel asleep at dinner. So, who doesn’t enjoy a good steak every now and then? I took an *older* friend up on a dinner date, and like a junkie passed out due to jet lag and staid ambiance. Wanna feel like Courtney Love at dinner? Go here after your flight home. zzzzz Yes, the food is excellent, if not overly traditional.

Solid food and service and a stylish location in the Upper East Side. Four stars only because the ones that are five star are just slightly better in food and service.

Best dining experience in Manhattan. The steaks are superb, the service is second to none and the atmosphere is so pleasant. One of the few New York restaurants you’re not sitting on top of each other. Highly recommended!

Came here for restaurant week 2013. This place is a little too old school for me, I mean I like a classic steak house but I was absolutely the youngest person there. The menu was great, which is why we decided to give it a go. Everything was good, I started with the brie fondue with fingerling potatoes. Yea, i expected a pot of fondue with potatoes. Not the case, we got a salad with a base of fondue and various dried fruits and potatoes. It was delicous. I got the filet mignon and my mom got the pepper steak — beware it’s covered with wayyy too much pepper. Cooked perfectly though! Dessert was just ok, i mean it’s a steakouse i’m not expecting anything crazy! I don’t think we’d go back, but was good and the service was great.

What a wonderful dining experience! I brought my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner as a surprise and he nearly melted when I told the cab driver to take us to 63rd and Madison. Seeing his excitement was awesome… as this is his favorite place — ever! The service and atmosphere was SO classy and the clientele was also so friendly and engaging — we had a few tables singing Happy Birthday to him and one table even sent us some champagne! My steak was perfect and his — well, it was cooked more than he would have liked but it was what he asked for. When you’re dining at a great steakhouse, it’s OK to order Med Rare. He loved my steak and wished he hadnt ordered his Med Well. But in summary, we have decided that this be our celebratory steakhouse, as in, we must be in a really awesome mood to volunteer $ 300 for dinner! It is, however, worth every cent.

Quite possibly the best steak I’ve had in NYC! 3 of us came here for restaurant week to give it a shot and we all left with the same opinion. The atmosphere at the Post House was that old school classy feel, almost where you know a good amount the people dining here came from old money. Absolutely no complaints about food or service! When I want a good meal with old friends, this will be my first recommendation… every time! If you haven’t been here yet, you should change that, ASAP!

Second wonderful time dining here for Restaurant week. The Brie Fondue with Local Fingerling Potatoes and butternut squash soup had great flavors. The Filet Mignon with Whipped Potatoes was cooked perfectly to medium rare. The only tiny downfall of the dish is the meat to potato ratio but how can anyone really complain about having too much perfect steak? There is always the bread basket if you need more carbs with your meal. The cheesecake was fantastic but the best surprise was the fruit crisp which the waitress recommended. It was served warm with vanilla bean ice cream. The décor is lovely and it was a truly wonderful experience.

Clams casino, shrimp coctail, and 35 day aged sirlion. Awesome! My wife liked my chicken better and my Dad didn’t care for the filet pot pie. I love the décor here. Very neighborhood kind of feeling. Comfortable restaurant.

Let me start off by saying that I’m hard-pressed to write a negative review on any restaurant because I work in the hospitality business and do not want to cause undue harm to an establishment based on one experience. Suffice it to say, this was a really bad experience for me to feel inclined to write something negative about this steakhouse. Based on other positive Unilocal reviews, I want to give this restaurant benefit-of-the-doubt and assume we ate here on a very off night. My husband took me to Post House for my birthday dinner and we were ecstatic when we walked in to see such great ambiance. The space was decorated beautifully for the holidays and unlike many New York eateries, there was room between tables(which was a pleasant surprise). I was concerned that this higher-end dining establishment would be stuffy and filled with people in coats and ties! Not so! This place had such a great vibe with a mix of clientele that we fit in perfectly. It was a busy evening but being a few days from Christmas most of Manhattan is in hustle and bustle mode. Our food was fine enough. We each had a salad, steak, two sides and dessert. My dissatisfaction is not necessarily with the food. Though the steak was not nearly as tasty as what I’ve had at many Ruth’s Chris Steakhouses across the country and Capital Grille, it wasn’t inedible either. Our complete dissatisfaction is with the service. My husband ordered a cocktail and I an iced tea. My tea tasted old so I told the server I wanted another glass if he planned on making a new batch(which is customary, at least in restaurants where I’ve worked, when someone complains of soured tea) or I would just drink water. He informed me the tea was made at 4pm and essentially had no plans to remake it… OK…so, I’ll just drink water then. Being 8 months pregnant I drink a lot of water and expected my glass to stay full. Not at this place! My glass was empty and it stayed empty… for a very long time. Only when I flagged down the server was it filled up. And speaking of empty glasses, my husband finished off his cocktail and was never asked if he wanted another drink either. Very strange! Our steaks arrived and the server still had not come by to get a new drink order(wine for my husband) or check on the status of our food(again, in most high-end steakhouses, a server will check to ensure the steaks are cooked to the proper temperature). I finally flagged down the back-server and asked for hot tea and my husband ordered a glass of wine. Frustrating! I was beginning to feel like we were the only table with crappy service but experienced another table being served by our server try to flag him down or ANYONE that worked in the restaurant, for over five minutes(and I’m not exaggerating) to get a new fork. It was comical! While we were waiting on our desserts to arrive we over-heard the server taking care of the table next to us(not our server) express his dissatisfaction with the restaurant ownership group. He informed the patrons that the original owner of the restaurant used to give employees Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day off each year but now that the original owner’s «cheap son» took over the business, the only day he lets employees off from work is on Super Bowl Sunday(and that’s because he’s too tight to buy TVs for the restaurant). In addition, he hated working on the holidays because only«foreigners, Muslims and tourists» come in on those days. Needless to say, we sat in complete awe listening to this conversation. Regardless of how you spin it, that conversation is completely inappropriate to have with anyone(and I hope to hell the customers did not fall into one of those categories or they might have been slightly offended). To sum up our crappy evening, our empty dessert dishes sat on our table for 30 minutes before we finally asked for our bill. Unacceptable! Service this bad is not ok at any establishment but especially not one that hands off a $ 253 bill for a party of two. And, Post House is part of the«Four Wall Restaurant Group» so after this experience we don’t plan to visit any of their other properties either.

The Post House was simply amazing. My boyfriend and I finally decided on a place for Restaurant Week and I am completely convinced that we made the perfect choice. I was afraid that the place would be a bit snobby, but it was the complete opposite – don’t be fooled by the fancy tablecloths and intense décor, it’s actually pretty relaxed(at least during the lunch hour while I was there.) The waiter we had was very attentive, sweet and funny. Our glasses were constantly being refilled with water and our food came out instantly. Now… let me talk about the food. It was fantastic! I had the goat cheese tart to start and it was light, creamy and delicious! Later I had the flat iron steak sandwich which was so beautiful, I didn’t even want to bite into it(but I did, and it was awesome.) And for dessert, I had a great slice of chocolate pecan pie with ice-cream on top. And oh yeah, I also had a glass of wine. It was freaking great! I would definitely recommend this place, it’s a really great deal! The attention from the waitstaff was great, the atmosphere was relaxed but upscale at the same time and the food was worth it. Go there, and you will definitely eave happy and with a fuller stomach.

I was lucky enough to attend this amazing house of steak during restaurant week and for lunch and let me tell you, TOTALLYWORTHIT. My girlfriend and I looked at several other locations for lunch but this one had the best selection that we could find for the price. As we entered, we were greeted by a snazzily dressed man who said, «By Golly you look gorgeous today chap» and I said, «Why thank you kind sir. Now where be the bitches at?». This conversation, albeit amazing, did not occur sadly but myself and my girlfriend were met by a friendly face at the door as well as our table. The restaurant was fancy shmancy but we did not feel out of place, meaning that we did not get snobby looks from the prune faced women who are usually at these restaurants. Our waiter was friendly, funny, and knew how to keep his distance. To begin, I had the mixed green salad which was dressed with some amazing mustard dressing. It was delicious and unique. It took me a minute to figure out what it was but it was very very good. And GINORMOUS. There were heaping amounts of greens so much so that I had to throw up during the meal to continue eating it. My entrée was the sirloin steak with a side of mashed potatoes. I had it medium rare and it was cooked to perfection. Well portioned as well, even though my girlfriend and I knew we were going to leave this place bloated like a pair of narwhals stumbling through the Manhattan afternoon. For dessert I was blessed with a cheesecake with a cherry compote which was delicious. The graham cracker crust was perfect and the cheesecake was light and yet filling. All in all, with wine, the meal came to 30 dollars each which was phenomenally well priced for the perfection that they called food. I would recommend going here before RW ends or make a point to go there next year when RW returns, because you won’t regret it. Attentive service, bang for your buck, and some friendly faces.

Of all the steakhouses in Manhattan, there really wasn’t anything all that special about this one. The food wasn’t great, the steak was overcooked. It was very expensive for a so so meal. That being said, the restaurant itself is lovely.

Went here for a nice business dinner. It was a very nIce place. As with most steak house restaurants, it was pretty expensive and the portions are larger than anyone should eat. I had two of the specials, a black bean soup and the Veal Milanese which was good but was pretty much a very expensive Veal Parmesan. Had a very nice time. Service was very good.

First off, I have to let you know I did not pay for this meal. If I had paid, I might have a slightly different opinion just because this place is so pricey. However, since I didn’t pay, I indulged. We ordered a few bottles of wine, everyone ordered a steak(of course), and we ordered a few sides. Everything was too my liking except I felt my steak was a tad overcooked. I ordered a medium rare and it came out medium. I don’t believe in sending food back so I dealt with it, but it wasn’t bad. The steak still had tremendous flavor and everything else we received was absolutely delicious. For dessert I ordered the lemon tart and it was scrumptious. I loved it and I left wanting more of it. This was a great place to go with some co-workers but again, if I had been paying I might not have been as happy.

+1 star for letting me add one to the group last minute for restaurant week +1 star for the generous wine pour um… and that’s it. Went here for my friend’s birthday and restaurant week and it’s no wonder why this was one of the restaurants left that could handle a group of 8 a couple days last minute ish. It was awkward when my friend and I came in. We were stared out until I went up to them and said«Hi we’re early for our reservation can we just sit at the bar?» Once seated at the bar, I ask the bartender«Do you have a drink menu?» to which he shortly said«No.» I understand if it’s a higher end restaurant and you might find«mixed drinks» offensive, but all i really wanted was a wine list or something. Later(and I mean at least 7 minutes pass by) he says«Here’s a wine list.» Finally, thanks. It also. I clearly looked at him when I was ready, but he walked from one side to the other. As for dinner? I ordered the tuna tartare with avocado and lime wasabi dressing(probably the best thing I had there) for my appetizer. The filet mignon which I ordered medium rare, but it came out more like medium. My friend ordered medium or hers was closer to medium well. They did forewarn that it didn’t come with a side, as expected with restaurant week. I got the fruit crisp with gala apple and blueberry for dessert and honestly, this was no better than what would have been served at a diner or my college dorm back in the day. But I do think the food was better than the service. I was ok with the old man who didn’t believe we were older than 21. But the other server’s best quality was his generous wine pour. Otherwise, he reached across the table and simply plopped plates down. I waitressed for 4 years, I never would have done that, which is why I expected better service from this establishment. I really wanted to like this place, but I just could not. Maybe we looked too young to get good service(Curse the asian gift of looking young)? This is probably my harshest review, but I was severely disappointed.

The service was excellent. Our water level was constantly above half. AC unit works very well in the restaurant. The workers are very friendly. The food however is just alright. The gazpacho appetizer and other appetizers was just so so. I had the 16 oz pork porterhouse and surprisingly, the pork was not dry at all. It was moist, but not much of a flavor profile. The filet mignon was cooked correctly, but nothing special about the way they cooked the meat. As for dessert, I had the Gala Apple with Ice Cream with bluberries. I liked that dessert the best out of the others but it wasn’t spectacular, just slightly better than average. I would not recommend this restaurant because there is nothing special about it. Could probably go somewhere slightly cheaper for the same quality of food.
