Came here with a big group of 40 people. Turns out, it was also trivia night. Nice place, split into a back space area, two tiny dirty bathrooms(what do you expect?) and a side area that opens into a pool table, dart boards, and games and a jukebox. The owner was nice, after we bought about 20 of the domestic pitchers(special for $ 10), he threw in a couple more plus some shots for people. He was the only one working, though, so it went a bit slower than what we’d like to see. Still, they handled our group dropping in with aplomb and without issue, and their drinks were cold. Only downside(and thus a 3 instead of 4 star place) — no food. Nicely, though, 20HDTV’s. And yes, they do let you bring in outside food! :)

First post of 2010, so it had to be about my favorite neighborhood bar. Biggups to Mike and Triona(the bar’s new owners)!! What can I say it’s the bar where everyone knows your name(especially if you’re one of the three black guys that ever visits, but I digress…). There is no food at the Pinch, but of course they have an ordering menu and you can bring in whatever food you want. Including dogs, in a bun or on all fours. Seriously, it’s a pet-friendly place. They’ve got beer and alcohol, nothing too fancy. But the bartenders are cool enough and give out enough free drinks to make it worth forgoing the Cosmos and Hendrik’s Gibsons for a night. There’s a single beer pong table, darts, and a pool table, but the wait for any of these things is never very long as the bar rarely gets too crowded. They’ve got TVs aplenty, and the NFLDTV package so games are all over the place on Sundays, and on Saturdays they show soccer games as well. If you’re in the area it’s worth it; if you’re not in the area it’s worth it. And even if it isn’t tell them I sent you and you might get a free drink out of the deal anyway.

ATTN Guinness drinkers: Do Not drink at the Pinch! They server the fine dark brew($ 5) in two-thirds pint glasses, not the regular pint glasses. One, I know I’m not a woman and two, Guinness is not a high content alcohol which are the two intended uses for this small glass which was introduced last year in the UK and coming soon to the usa. Additionally the bartenders are very ice heavy, and light on the whiskey pour counts… I refuse to go here when I can spend the same amount at other better bars in any hood.

Was a thousand degrees, the car bombs were all baileys and guiness — barely a drop of jameson — and it smelled like vomit. Two stars because I accidentally knocked the toilet paper roll into the toilet while I was pissing and it made me laugh. One star because the bar sucked.

The Pinch is objectively and absolutely a horrible place to go, and this is why. A friend of mine and I were meeting some friends here on December 20, 2007. Our first impression of this place was the owner assaulting us while trying to enter the bar. This was entirely unprovoked and left us pretty shocked.(I know it was one of the owners because he had an Irish accent and according to the Internets both owners are Irish.) When we arrived, the owner was drunk at the bar and took my friend’s Dominican ID, looked at it for a half second, and threw it out the window. Then he swore at him and told him to get out. I tried to get an explanation for this and he started swearing at me, and told me to leave as well. He then got up, grabbed me by the neck, and forced me out. As I emphasized before, this was entirely unprovoked; later when I asked the bouncer why this guy was acting like this, he simply said, ‘because he can’(because he’s the owner). So, if you want to avoid getting manhandled and possible assault and battery, stay away from Peter Doherty and Paul Motherway’s bar.

A great place in the area that isn’t completely packed and doesn’t require screaming to hear people. The pool and sports atmosphere is very chill. Some of the guys can be obnoxious, but they have Magic Hat on tap. Its all about compromises. I will be back…

Still rolling… Ok, could it kill you to move the pool table like 4 inches more away from the back wall? Also, please get some new balls as we were very confused… Very. Beers were cold so all was well really.

I live right around the corner so I end up there, but I always hate myself when I end up at the Pinch. The crowd is nasty and I’ve never had fun there. I go there when I’m depressed, I’ve given up on having fun that night, and I just want to drink without waiting for service. The redeeming thing about The Pinch is that they order soccer channels, so you can watch games there that you wouldn’t otherwise get to see; it can be standing room only at 8:30 am on a Sunday when Man U is playing. But if you aren’t there to watch soccer, don’t go at all.

The Pinch… I like you… alas I do not like your pool table… why do you even have a pool table. 2 purple 4 balls… why? Why can you not have a normal set of balls… I know they come in all shapes and sizes but I just want normal… Also, why do you have a pool table in an area that you have your back against a wall and the only way you can fathom hitting a ball is by blowing on it. NEXT: stupid comedy Tuesday… if I want to hear bad free comedy I will go to the comedy cellar… never shut off the good music again and make me listen to that crap. Why I do love you The Pinch… You let my dog in the bar and I really do appreciate that… sometimes I want to drink and not feel like a bad mom for not spending that time with my dog. When I have children I will get to bring them too right?

The only problem I had was that there isn’t any grill. It’s only a bar. However, the bartender provided me with a giant stack of order menus and I was able to have some grilled BBQ chicken delivered to the bar. The prices are typical for near NYU, but the crowd isn’t NYU, at least not at 8pm on a Saturday. I can’t vouch for 11pm. The barstaff is friendly enough and you’ll get a buyback after 2 or 3 drinks. I would stop in there again with friends looking for a place to have a few drinks without being crushed by a crowd. Not too shabby.

Kinda small, but good people/atmosphere. Went here for football on Sunday after being at a bar in the neighborhood. The bartender was pretty accommodating with the televisions, but there are only 5 TVs in the place. So, if you show up and they are all claimed with games that are not yours, you are SOL. It was pretty empty when we went in at halftime of the 1pm games, so I don’t foresee it being a big problem. My girlfriend walked in and said«This place is cute.» I said that the $ 10 pitchers of Bud Light are cute. The pitchers are deceptively small though. They look huge. They’re glass. But they are only 48oz. So, you get 3 pints for $ 10…not a bad deal, but not exactly a steal either. They don’t have food, but someone else ordered delivery while we were there, so I don’t think that is a problem. Overall… a peaceful experience for the chaos that can normally ensue on Sunday afternoons during the football season. I will be back if I want a chill place to watch football on Sunday.

truely a great bar. it’s really a great place to go to on a friday night(or any other night for that matter), it’s busy, but not so busy that you can’t move. there’s always been a great energy about the pinch. the bartenders are great ! as is the music via itunes. also in the summer they set up tables and chairs outside which is wonderful. i’ve had many a great night here. you should definitely give it a shot !

A three star establishment with a four star pool table off in the side room that never seems to be too crowded. Bonus. $ 3 bud Wed-Sun I think, friendly enough bar staff, a variety of seating set ups(tables in the back, a long bar, said side room with open space and pool table), and according to the plaques on the wall The Pinch’s darts team has had its moments of glory. All good things. I’ve started going here on Saturday nights with friends, don’t know how it became a regular thing, but I think it might stick. Every girl needs a nice chill option in the village.

When I had some time to kill, and it was too dark to chill out and read a book in Washington Square Park, this was a great pub to grab a few beers. Football(see soccer) was usually on at least one of the three or four tvs, and one night I accidentally walked in on a comedy night that was really pretty good. I think it’s every tuesday? maybe? Never too crowded, and I liked that fact that I felt comfortable walking in here solo. No one gave me a dirty look. Super friendly staff.

You go to the Pinch for 5 reasons: 1) it shows futbol(read: soccer); premiership; UEFA, 2) the owner’s dog is often there — and he’s a cool dog. 3) the bartender’s are friendly 4) its never crowded 5) you like darts. recently, they ditched the«grill» part of «The Pinch Bar & Grill» and put in a pool table. jury still out on whether that was a good call. your life won’t change at this bar, but you can get a beer with no hassle.

The Pinch is really nothing out of the ordinary as far as pubs go: a few flat screen TVs over the bar playing a constant stream of sports, a few dart boards in the next room, and some standard pub fare: wings and chicken fingers, I think even a shepherd’s pie to go along with the Irish theme. The atmosphere is usually pretty mellow – despite being a stone’s throw from NYU’s law school, the crowd always seems a bit older than the average co-ed and it’s always tame compared to anything happening on MacDougal St. only one block away. Each Thursday is Ladies night and drinks are half off, however, though it’s not the most egregious offender in terms of attracting testosterone-driven sports fans, it does get it’s fair share of blockheads which sometimes makes it not worth the effort(every guy in the bar is a «lawyer»). Points for having Magner’s hard cider on tap over the summer(now it’s $ 6/bottle and I’ve gotten it for $ 4 elsewhere, ugh), the outside seating in nice weather and the friendly Irish bartender, though.
