Hard and zappy drinks, but the Heathens were the real showstopper. They started up instrumental and after a minute I had to turn around to see who was playing that bass. The singer, too… total powerhouse. Baritone sax was a real close third. No wonder they’re the house band. Good acoustics and the dance floor moves to all of it.

Just celebrated my 30th birthday at the Heath last night and they made the experience amazing. We were a group of 16 which is always a bit stressful to plan but the Heath made it so easy. From the second I called last month to make the reservation I automatically relaxed and was excited. The man that made my reservation was so lovely and excited and calming, as opposed to so many other businesses that had ludicrous minimums and rude event planners. We all met at the Gallow Green first which is a lush and gorgeous rooftop. Beautiful place to gather, chat, and take some lovely pictures. Then down to the Heath where you are transported to a different era. The only word I can use to describe the ambience and set up is SEXY. The red curtains, dim twinkle lights, and sultry jazz singers make it feel like you are really in another world. The crowd was also a great mix of attractive interesting people. The pre-fixe is limited but food was delicious! The only thing I don’t recommend is the strawberry shortcake, too dry. Note! They have private rooms for large parties separate from the main jazz room but I do not recommend those, request to have your table in the main dining room. I had such a great time and it was the best way to ring in my 30s, by going back to the 1920s. Thank you to the Heath !

Let me just preface this by saying I really love what I have seen of the McKittrick Hotel, I’m a little confused about how everything is separated, but I have attended the rooftop brunch at Gallows Green and have literally been dreaming about it ever since, in all its glory. It was amazing. This is not a review for that. I attended a show at the Heath last night. Tried to really do my research, and as far as I had gathered, the Heath does serve food and drinks, there are plenty of reviews on food and table service. We even picked the option for reserved seating(I figured it would be set up as a restaurant around a stage like city Winery or Joes Pub – it was, technically). I worked a very long day yesterday, didn’t even have time for a lunch break, but it was going to be worth it because I was just really looking forward to eating and drinking for a date night at the show. Upon(early) arrival despite reserving a table for two, we were seated at a communal table with 4 other people. They seemed just as thrown off but we all talked and joked and made the most of the seating arrangement. Unfortunately, not only was there was NO food or menus, but there wasn’t even table service for drinks. There was a crowded bar(with mediocre drinks), and the bartender even told me there *should* be a waitress with menus, or at least taking drink orders. But alas, there was not. The show itself was amazing, the staff was pretty helpful in directing people where they needed to go… but I just couldn’t/can’t get over the fact that – at a restaurant/bar where we reserved table seating – there was no actual table service. There was plenty of staff, two hostesses, and people bussing the empty glasses off the tables, and plenty of random staff standing around directing people. Once seated, not one staff member looked our way. It just doesn’t make any sense, why even offer reserved tables? The tables were set up in a dining format… why not line the chairs up in rows for an audience if nobody is able to eat and there’s no drink service? Can The Heath possibly make it more clear WHEN the kitchen is and is not in service –BEFORE the event – so people like myself don’t spend the whole day anticipating a nice dinner date, only to arrive and have to sit through a show while being ravenous and fatigued? I was really expecting a different experience from this place, I’m truly disappointed.

I loved the atmosphere and the Jazz in the background as we enjoyed some nice cocktails at this restaurant. The service was good and the food was nice, however I didn’t think it stood up to the hefty price tags that came with it. I’ve had some amazing steaks in my time, and whilst we enjoyed the one at the Heath, I’ve had a lot better for $ 45 with just some beans.

Came here for a secret show, so my experience was probably a lot better than it could’ve been. The place is more like a jazz lounge than a music venue, as the stage is just a foot off the ground and there are comfy booths all around. The bar is pretty sizable and the bartenders were great/friendly(especially for the open bar we had going on). They have great beers available. Also, the bathroom is top notch. It’s like one of those old school sophisticated johns.

Fantastic restaurant with amazing service. The folks at The Heath made my birthday one to remember. I highly recommend it if you’re looking to have low key, jazz filled evening with friends. It’s like taking a step back in time.

Ok, at first i looked at the photos on Unilocal and thought this place was going to be dingy… but na-ah… very classy place with awesome décor and man the vibe hits the 30’s spot right on!!! I loved this place and will definitely go again for the ambience, the drinks(the old-fashioned, the ginger martini were awesome) and the experience!

Ahhh, my soul definitely felt at home. I went back in time as I first stepped into The Heath. It felt beautiful. The atmosphere was just amazing! Live jazz music accompanying my dinner, with nice string lights and an amazing date… What more can I ask for?! Besides the amazing atmosphere, I was not utterly impressed with the food. First off, I checked the website beforehand and saw that there were two different pre-fixe menus… One on the link when you buy your Sleep No More tickets, and one when you click the menu for The Heath. So, I called and asked which was their recent menu. It was the one in The Heath page. So I skimmed beforehand and saw two entrees that I was debating on getting, either the Lamb or Veal entrée. Once I arrived, our server mentioned that the Catch of the Day was not available. Okay cool, not a problem. However, while looking at the menu, the Veal entrée and the Lamb entrée were gone. So I asked the server about that, and she said they just changed their menu. I was kind of bummed. We started with the Tuna Crudo appetizer, and it was light and good to the palette. My fiancé was going to order Fish&Chips for his main, until the server reminded us there was no fish… So basically there were only three options for entrees. I ended up getting the Dry-aged NY Strip and fiancé got the Amish Chicken. The vegetables in my dish were good, but the NY Strip was okay. Nothing too special about it. His food was just okay too. However, the dessert was amazing! Chocolate Budino and the Apple Bread Pudding should get married and make babies because both of them together is delicious! You won’t regret! I may not come back until they add more options to the menu… Or maybe get myself some dessert. The stars are more for the atmosphere of the place. The food could be a little better, but was still a good experience.

From the dim, vaguely unsettling manned elevator that takes you there, to the train car booth seating on the back wall, this theatrical hollywood backlot of a supper club. Strikes a mood from the moment you step across the threshold. There is apparently always live music — subdued jazz trio on Monday to more raucous fare later in the week. Cocktails are at the high standard that we expect in the mid 2k teens. Gentlemen, bring your dates, and take her up to dance for a jolt of electricity in the evening’s proceedings. Crowd is quite mixed in terms of age, median: 32. Music determined by the band. Food: I haven’t had a chance to try.

4.5 stars. Ambience: Spectacular. perfect for date night or girls night out. Live music is a huge plus. I was amazed at how friendly every single person we encountered was. From the bouncers at Gallow Green to our waitress, even the singer made a special trip to our table to just chat it up. Amazing. What we ordered: Roasted Amish Chicken — meh. Good, but nothing special about it. I’d probably go for something else if you are looking for a lot of flavor. Fish and Chips — Fries/tartar sauce are the real stars of this dish. Fish was also very tasty and had a nice crisp to it. Wild Mushroom Pasta — solid option if you like mushrooms and are craving pasta. Shaved brussell sprout salad — GETTHIS! very tasty and flavorful Heathen Fries — comes with tartar sauce. GETTHISTOO! Also cool presentation Warm Goat Cheese — served over a bed of potatoes. Very filling but good dish to share Winter Green salad — nice presentation but totally lacking on flavor. skip this dish. Bread Pudding and Warm Chocolate Cake — GETTHESE! You won’t regret it.

GREAT cocktail bar. Friday night, reservation of 12, sounds chaotic right? Nah, our night went super smooth — much like our drinks! Since we had plans on going out, we opted for the dinner menu instead of the prix fixe($ 50/pp) Between all of us, we gladly shared several charcuterie and cheese boards, nibbled on the PEI mussels and mini pork pies and… that was it! Loved the live soft jazz! Made for a cool yet modern and relaxed yet glamorous atmosphere — I dig it! Plates and drinks are on the pricier side, so act accordingly. Can’t wait to come back and see Sleep No More!

Ended up at The Heath with an invite from a friend who went to the Sleep No More show which happens to the in the same building. After you pass the doorman on the street level you take an elevator with an operator to an unknown floor. Once you exit the elevator then you are welcomed by the host. This space has no windows so hard to tell which floor you are on or which direction you face. Highlight of the evening was the live music. Food and service were both mediocre. There wasn’t much of a wine list to talk about but a full bar served cocktails. It wasn’t that crowded on a Wednesday night but we constantly had to look for our server to order drinks or our food. I don’t think there was any dish that was noteworthy or memorable. We made the best of the night and enjoyed the live music with cocktails. If we return we’ll skip the dinner and go straight for the bar and enjoy the music. Apparently there is a roof bar with the Lodge at the Gallow Green. Sounded interesting but you may need a reservation to go up there.

Go for the music. Go for the atmosphere. You’ll feel like you walked into another decade. The food was not memorable but the experience makes it worth it. We went before seeing Sleep No More which was also a out of this world experience! Ending up staying for the band until closing because it was a fun band and setting.

Excellent! You won’t be disappointed. This was my 3rd time at The Heath. I’ve always gone late night or after Sleep No More for a drink or a quick bite, but last night my family & I made reservations before the show for a proper dinner. Everything was perfect. The ambiance is always excellent & brings you back to that prohibition era. The entertainment was fantastic as well. The musicians & singers here are always captivating. You feel relaxed & no one is rushing you. Our waiter, Edward was superb. He checked in without looming over us, he had such an engaging personality & just a nice way about him. We all really liked him — one of the better servers I’ve encountered in my many years dining out in NYC. The food was really on point last night as well. The salads were delicious. The pasta was the perfect comfort food, yet not too heavy. The filet mignon was perfect — unbelievable(my brother who is a bit of a steak snob was thrilled), the fries were a tad spicy which we loved & the chicken dish was also good. Drinks were delish. Worth every dime.

This place was amazing. I couldn’t believe there wasn’t a line wrapped around the corner though they said it does normally require reservations. The food was delicious. Music was great. They said the band later was even better when the restaurant turned into a bar. And supposedly we missed out on the best part an interactive play on the other floors of the building. The do a spectacular job at setting the mood of a 1920’s speakeasy. Lighting sets the mood as does the music. It was my favorite thing in nyc to be honest. I’d highly recommend this for anyone. Don’t forget to check out the roof. It’s amazing as well.

Came here to see Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Upon entering, the staff/doormen were helpful and friendly. They know what they are doing here and run a tight ship. Before being let up to the door leading to the elevator we waited in line for a few minutes then were quickly ushered to the elevator for access to The Heath. Inside you are transported back in time. Awesome smoky, sexy atmosphere. Drinks are expensive, some are $ 17 but I didn’t care, I was enjoying myself. We had general admission tickets but were second in line so we were able to score a spot at one of the seating areas, perfect! Everything was great, Pres Hall were incredible! We were given free access to the Inferno Halloween party after the show(it was jam packed but it gave us a bit of a preview of the«hotel» and a bit of how the experience of Sleep No More would be). Definitely will be back!

Now if this is considered NYC hipster, I like this much better than San Diego hipster. The minute you walk through the door, you wait for a green elevator door to slide open and your greeted by the lift service person. About 8 people can cram into this old school elevator while the lift boy welcomes you to the restaurant floor. Once you step off the lift, its like entering another era. This jazzy, 1930’s feel isn’t just the décor, but also the waitstaff, the music… everything is strategically thematic its you’re apart of the timepiece. There is also a smoky haze that bellows into the restaurant without the cigar smell. Note, if you are not into taxidermy and food, well… just focus on the pianist and the jazz singer. Seated promptly you are served dinner rolls and butter. I wish I could say the service was good but our wait person sat us at the corner and practically left us. We ordered two appetizers, our entrees and then rushed out to make it to our Sleep No More reservations. The appetizers we got was the pickled vegetables and the new England clam chowder. The pickled vegetables were an assortment of squashes, onions, tomatoes and the thing we thought looked like a mini bell pepper… HAha HAWWWTTT! it was a spicy chili pepper. OMg, did I down my water and eat my dinner roll so fast. Even a spread of butter on the tongue to cool it off. It would of been nice if we were pre-warned. The onions and the squash has a really great vinegary and sweet taste to them. The clam chowder was not such a hit. First, it took awhile to come out. only when the waitstaff asked if our chowder came out yet and we said«no» she looked puzzled and went to go check on the kitchen. After that, it arrived. It was much more liquidly and thin than I liked. When I think chowder, I think thick. When I dipped the spoon in the soup, it didn’t have that thick residual coat that usually sticks to the spoon. As for dinner, I got the very delicious an generous pork chop with a side of creamed spinach. The spinach lacked the creaminess and flavor. I think they used a different dairy base than I’m used too. The pork chop was meaty and on the outside portions it was juicy and flavorful but by the time I got to the center and it was dry so the creamed spinach came in handy. Since we had to get to Sleep No More, we were rushed to eat our entrees… that’s after we asked how much longer our entrees would take.

I hate to put a damper on the reviews here but perhaps the experience would have been better if we had done the whole Sleep No More Show… my fiancé took me here for dinner Friday around 9ish. We were seated promptly as well and even got to choose where we wanted to go. It started getting more packed but it wasn’t crazy — most people were here after the show. While, I think the ambiance is really cool(live jazz-y music, smoke machines, 1920s look), I just didn’t think it made up for poorly done food– after all, that’s really all we care about what we go out. We started off with glasses of cote de rhone which was good. We move onto a cheese board– which was probably the best thing we ate: sheep’s milk, cheddar, goat’s milk, etc with house made dehydrated apples, saltines, nuts, and different honeys(even one with beer). This was good. It was $ 25 though. In fact, everything was very pricey here — the cotes was $ 13 ish, and all mains north of $ 25. Our server was really nice, and he was able to substitute the twice fried fries(which were good, crispy, spicy, etc– the best part of the meal second to the cheese board), for my smashed potatoes with my chicken main dish. The Amish chicken was SOSO overcooked it was dry– I know some serious novice cooks that make better chicken. The radish pickles were good but the lettuce was too soggy in the jus. My fiancé had the yorkshire fry up which was an inventive, colorful dish with British elements(guess they tried to be British-y here, not sure why that’s synonymous with the 1920s theme) and the best part was the sausage… the grilled pork belly was second best, but the eggs were so overcooked they stuck to the pan– not supposed to happen. We decided to skip dessert based on the bla food. Overall, I could see this being good for tourists and groups and show goers and I think the hotel has done nice things for the otherwise strip-clubby, desolate area. Don’t get fooled by the lines out the doors, if you’re a NY food fanatic– that isn’t your jam. However, I will say — the Gallows Greens rooftop bar is worth checking out. I had a disgusting glass of Sancerre there the views are nice and the plants make for good décor. The bar-y food honestly looked better here.

The Heath is what brings East-siders to the extreme West-side on 27th street between 10 and 11 Avenue. The Heath and its rooftop bar, Gallow Green, is part of the McKittrick Hotel. McKittrick Hotel was built in the early 1900’s to function as a hotel, but after being«condemned», it was abandoned and left locked. Today, it houses the interactive play, Sleep No More, based loosely on Shakespeare’s Macbeth. And precisely for this reason, you’ll see multiple lines of people waiting to enter in front of separate entrances. As soon as you step out of the elevator into The Heath, expect to feel like you’ve entered a time warp. The fogginess, the dim lighting, the 1930’s costumes, and original building infrastructure make for an amazing and unforgettable dining experience. The sexy speakeasy, Prohibition Era ambiance is perfect for a night out in the city. Expect a decent wait time if you did not make reservations. Or grab a drink at Gallow Green, if weather permits.(Gallow Green does not have a food menu. Drinks only.) The Heath almost always has a live jazz band playing in the front and center. Usually, they have a vocalist too! His or her mic volume isn’t too high, but conversing at the dinner table might be a bit challenging. The food is incredible!!! We ordered the American Wagyu Steak, Roast Chicken, Grilled Pork Chop, the twice-fried Fries, salt-roasted Sunchokes, and charred Brussel Sprouts. The Wagyu was cooked perfectly, medium rare closer to rare. And the mushrooms and potatoes were a perfect complement. The Roast Chicken was a juicy perfection with subtle hints of sweetness due to the raisin-infused grits. The Pork Chop arrived with Brussel Sprouts and Pecans, which proved to make a delicious team. The side of French Fries and Brussel Sprouts were great. The Sunchokes, which I’ve never had before, were fried too. It tasted like an amalgamation of french fries and fried zucchini sticks. I’d order them again. The Heath, you make me want to pull a «Midnight in Paris» and time-travel to the 1920’s and 1930’s.
