The food here was awesome. Took four coworkers to lunch and we each ordered something different and everyone loved their meal. Fish tacos are amazing. Order them. Great pub atmosphere.

Devastated that this is no longer a Redskins bar anymore. I used to come in to watch Redskins game, and the crowd was so lively and fun. After each touchdown, the bar would blast the Redskins Fight song and give everyone a round of free shots. I came back in 2016 to watch the Redskins playoff game against the Packers. The bar was dead with only a couple of redskins fan. The restaurant no longer offered beer towers. The menu changed. I was so confused. Then I asked the hostess what was going on — and she said now they are a 49ers bar. I was devastated. The bar is nice because it lets you make reservations, and there are plenty of TV screens for you to watch sports game. It is never too crowded and the booths are spacious. Other than that, it is a standard bar. Prices are higher as the menu offers«authentic» Australian dishes. However, it is a good place to meet up with friends to watch a sports game in a relaxed atmosphere and it is not often crowded. Wouldn’t come here for the food though.

Bloody fantasic! I am Australian but i promise., i am not biased. i walked in and was immediately greeted. we sat and our table and were welcomed and given water and time to look over the menu. They have a lunch special of $ 9 for various meals. Very Australian meals. Cant get much more Aussie than a pie and chips. Very impressed with the food. We also ordered the quintissential australian desert of pavlova. It was fantastic. I cant speak highly enough of the food. We spoke with the owner, Matt, who was walking around talking to customers. The staff, inluding the owner were all very friendly. Very impressed.

Saw the Ind vs Aus T20 World Cup Quarter Final(league game) here. I left with a very happy memory… primarily because India defeated the Aussies(Yeah!!!) and I was 7 schooners down. Had the Coopers Ale for the very first time, and thoroughly enjoyed it! Claudia, our server was very friendly and attentive, in an extremely crowded bar on a Sunday morning. I wish the game telecast was an HD Stream though. that’s my only complaint. however, it did not interfere in my WC watching experience at all!

Wanted to try kangaroo and heard this place has it. The crowd seemed really fun but I had to catch my meal to go. Instead of getting the entrée, I got the skewer appetizer. When I got home and opened the container, I said WTF, I got the smallest four babysize pieces and a touch of some shredded lettuce. The meat was OK. Very lean as expected.

A Sports Temple Went there to have breakfast and watch Six Nations rugby. The entrance is a typical long narrow bar with booths and tables in the back and a second floor with the same set up. I was extremely impressed with the HD TVs everywhere and the sound system which was even and balanced. During half time they put on other sports which was a great touch. Every booth has its own BIG tv. No bad seats. Breakfast was very good. Eggs perfect and peppered. Had the«Australian» breakfast — insert«English» here. Great sausages and bacon. Beer selection looked good. I was on ice tea and no grumbling or drama from the delightful young Aussie waitress who was graceful dealing with a lot of loud ENG fans. For sports and grog — the best.

Fairdinkum, I’m not sure whats up with the low reviews. I have been here more than a dozen times and always had a great time. On time I brought the family along, another time some work colleagues and the remaining times I just sat at the bar. Great menu, the pies taste great. Nice selection of Aussie beers and Bundy Rum. Aussie sport is always on TV which is a major bonus. The restrooms(Toilets, dunny) is a little small for the amount of people in the place. I’ll be back. I always stop by when I’m in town.

Average bar with no particurarly amazing features except for the pavlova dessert which is very freshing and reasoanbly priced. The meat pie tasted like it was frozen and it was expensive and tiny. I grew up in the UK and enjoy my pie and was dissapointed and would not reccomned getting it at all. Its a good place for sports, they tend tohave rugby and cricket going on in the back which is nice for people like me. Average bar with a few nice touches and to be honest thats about it.

Staff were so nice — they went out of their way to accommodate us(there was a mistake with my open table reservation re party size… Oops). Instead of turning us away they opened up the upstairs area and gave us a private booth which could accommodate about 8 – 10 people. That’s the Aussie spirit! It was very comfortable. Not so noisy that you have to shout to be heard like in other bars /pubs. The passionfruit martini for $ 8 a pop is a great value cocktail. Didn’t love the sausage rolls or party pies but potato wedges were nice. Played 90s music as the night progressed. Overall, great venue for after work drinks!

Came here on Tuesday with some friends to celebrate Australia Day — it was«lit». As expected, it was super crowded both upstairs and downstairs. Personally I liked the novelty of being able to get aussie beers and food here(for example: kangaroo). Split the kangaroo skewers with my friends — it really wasn’t much for $ 16 and tasted a bit like steak but I definitely would not order/try it again. The major redeeming factor was the live one-man band(guitarist) who was later joined by his band mates(a drummer and keyboard player). They were phenomenal and played a good mix of music that everyone was singing and dancing to! Loved them!

NIce that it’s not your typical Irish Pub in midtown. Came for an alumni event. On the ground floor they have bar seating and high tables. Upstairs they have a smaller bar and couches with coffee tables for a more intimate feel. Happy Hour is Monday — Friday from 4 – 7. Selection includes wine, some beer, and typical mixed drinks.

This place fit the bill for what we needed on this particular occasion: a kid-tolerant sports bar/restaurant that was showing our particular NFL game(on NFL network, not easy to get at most hotels). The hostess reserved a table for us over the phone, turned out to make our lives a bit easier upon arrival as a large group had spread out into multiple booths. Service was very good and attentive, without being overbearing, especially considering we were there for the whole game. The food was OK to good: we could have skipped the kangaroo skewers, but my fish and chips were crisp and tasty and my wife’s salad was good. The beer was good and the whole place was clean. Probably above par, if you’re looking for a good sports bar.

It’s rare to be surprised by a restaurant in midtown Manhattan, but the Australian managed to do just that! The kangaroo skewers, which sound intimidating, were actually very delicious and tasted like normal steak. I also enjoyed the buffalo wings, which were breaded and deep fried to crush perfection. There was only one sauce option available, which was medium-hot in my opinion. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She checked in on us often and made sure we were liking everything. The only complaint I have was that it was freezing cold, even in the back of the restaurant! However, if you’re looking for a good place for comfort food near transportation in midtown, this spot is perfect!

I have came here for happy hour twice. The australian is a sports bars with lots of tvs and decent happy hour deals. The place is nicely decorated, clean and spacious. Good if you would like to watch European soccer and rugby games. They were also playing football when I was there last. It really runs the gamut.

Disappointed. They ran out kangaroo meat(minus star) and beef sliders(minus star) on Friday(minus star). The happy hour open until 7pm is a plus. Our waitress was beautiful and with great smile. I need to go back to try the kangaroo skewer in the future.

Came here to watch the Big Game(Cal vs. Stanford) this past weekend with a bunch of other Cal Alums and was super happy with the space! We had a long table in the back since we had a part of 10, but there were plenty of booths in the back as well. The drink selection wasn’t bad. and I, of course, being a not-so-avid beer drinker, opted for a spike warm apple cider. YUM! It was really good, but definitely too hot to drink in a crowded bar. I wish I could’ve sipped on it outside to warm my soul. HA! No. But really, it wsn’t bad… more of a novelty than a serious drink IMO. My friend was ESTATIC to find yuengling beer here. apparently they don’t have it in California… but apparently they kind of have it everywhere in New York. Oops. Overall, it was a really cool place to chill and watch football. There is no shortage of TVs here, but nothing really stood out here to make it more than average for me. Great space, good company. decent food/drinks? Makes it A-OK in my book!

I just stopped in to be nostalgic and grab a pavlova… it was super dead on a Sunday afternoon. I sat at the bar, maybe two or three other people were in. No one that worked there was really friendly or talkative, especially considering I was alone. I wasn’t given any napkins or even a water. The pavlova was decent, but not as good as what I had in Australia: P

I have this irrational, girlish fear of going to a bar by myself. I don’t really know what my problem is, but The Australian made me set down such worries. A friend was to be meeting me an hour later, but I thought I’d just go and chillax instead of inventing errands for myself. The bartender(s) were incredibly nice & were authentically Australian as well. It was fun to chat with them about Americans vs Australians because what else would a basic b*tch like myself talk about while I’m alone in an Australian bar? Anyway, the male offered me a sample of the homemade sangria, which was pretty great but not worth splurging when there were other happy hour specials. After enjoying a Stella cider or three, I decided to order the margherita pizza for my friend & myself to share. It was PLENTY for two people and pretty tasty! I’m annoyed at myself that I wasn’t more culturally involved with my menu choice, but sometimes you just want some pizza. Maybe next time. I will say that this place got packed pretty quickly from the time I got there until the time my friend arrived. But rightfully so! 4 stars because the bar seating was just a tiny bit uncomfortable, but not enough to keep me away!

I stopped by on a Thursday to watch the NFL game, it was the only place in midtown we could find with large tvs and available tables. Happy hour ends at 7 and then you’re looking at $ 6-$ 8 beers. One of our waiters told our table about a drink he enjoys which is a cider with a shot of fireball. It wasn’t until we got the bill did we realize they were $ 15 each. Service was great the whole time and all the staff were very friendly. We tried almost the appetizers and I wasn’t particularly impressed with any of them. Portion sizes were fairly small as well for the price. The potato wedges and sweet potato fries weren’t anything great. I’m a huge potato wedge fan and they were disappointing, not that crispy or flavorful. The chicken nachos were small and didn’t have enough chips so we ended up with a bowl with chicken and carrots at the end. The buffalo wings were fine, they’re hard to screw up in general. The salt and pepper calamari was the highlight for me, they were fried really well and peppery. The sauces were good but for the most part tasted like they came out of a jar. With the interesting menu I guess I was expecting something a little better than the typical bar food but that’s not what I found here.

A little slice of home in NYC! Only been once with my mum and it was so refreshing to come here after a week in NYC. The service was so good, they have an awesome menu with classic Aussie foods. No where else in the USA have I found somewhere to make a lemon lime bitters but here, so happy. They play most Australian sports, AFL, league and cricket etc. Can’t wait to come back.

Fact: I rode the NYC subway solo at 3am to get here from Downtown to watch the 2011SOO Game 1. Fact: I supported the Blues by having the Tommy Raudonikis Egg and Bacon Roll, and a Bloody Merry… or 3 Fact: I did not have the Winnie Reds(do they sell them?) Fact: NSW scored in the 65th(Pearce) and 69th(Jennings) minutes to take the lead 12 – 10, after being down 10 – 0 the whole game. Fact: QLD retook the lead in the 73rd minute after a Billy Slater special and went on to win the game. Final score 16 – 12 to QLD. Fact: I did not cry…(much) Fact: I returned later, and met some Aussie boys and we smashed up the 750ml tinnies of Fosters! As Homer would say«It’s pretty big». Fact: For an Aussie travelling around New York, this bar is definitely a little slice of heaven, and made me feel at home. Fact: Good selection of the main Aussie beer, wine and spirits staples.

Brilliant neighborhood bar on 38th and 5th — sort of like a Cheers in the middle of Manhattan. The only difference is that they serve good food and Aussie hospitality. The salad was great as were the decadent desserts, Lulu made us feel welcome right from the get go as if we were regulars.

Hmm, not really worth the money. Me and hubs came in over the weekend to enjoy an authentic Ozzie meat pie and sausage rolls. Hubs is from Oz, so to say he appreciates a good traditional pie is an understatement. We ordered 3 mains, of which 2 meat pies with mash and the sausage rolls. First, we felt ridiculous for ordering 3 mains, but to be honest we finished it off rather easily. The meat pies were ok, though hubs was disappointed. Not enough gravy and they were quite small. In fact, while living in Amsterdam we’ve had better ones. I personally never had Ozzie sausage rolls before, and I thought they were tasty enough but it appeared they weren’t authentic either. Now, about the service… It was below average, and like another reviewer said: they really have to step up their service. There was no host who received us, and no one even bothered to ask how our meal was. No interest in their customer at all. I wouldn’t come back here, mainly due to the poor service.

If you want to try kangaroo meat, this is the place to do it. Spoiler alert — kangaroo just tastes like chewy beef. And it’s not cheap. That said, The Australian is pretty big, but can get packed for events or sports games. They have wide round booths in the back and another bar upstairs that you can reserve. The downstairs bar is a bit narrow, so not much space to stand around, so table service is your best bet for a small group(if you can get one). Service was wonderful. Like everyone’s mentioned, wonderful Australian accents everywhere. Happy hour is only 4 – 7 though, but includes food. The«bar» food was decent, but not great. Buffalo wings had some kick to them. Calamari was mysteriously way too salty. Kangaroo skewers were… kangaroo skewers. They have a handful of Australian beers(in bottles and cans), including the Foster’s Oil Can and James Boags. They had Bronzed Aussie on tap, which tasted like Yuengling. Definitely glad to have ticked The Australian off of my to-do list!

Even the accents are authentic. To be fair, this review might be more on Australian food than the food at The Australian. We came here for a team lunch the other day and it could be because I was raised on spiced foods, but just like a lot of American cuisine, I found the food at The Australian to be boring. It wasn’t bad; it just wasn’t exciting to eat. The chicken parma is a variation on the Italian favorite. Instead of baked, breaded chicken, it’s chicken schnitzel, fried to crispy perfection topped with a layer of tomato sauce and melted shredded mozzarella. It was served with a side(I got steak fries) and a salad. I will give the fry cook kudos because the exterior was so crispy without being hard and crusty. However, the chicken was a little on the drier side, which the sauce fortunately took care of. The kangaroo skewers weren’t what I was expecting. The meat was barely cooked,(not sure if that was on purpose), seared on the outside and still cold on the inside. It was pretty tough to chew and it reminded me a lot of steak with a strange aftertaste. It’s not gamey as I imagined it would be, but it gave me a weird feeling after eating it. The BBQ sauce was similar to A1 and did a good job of coverup. However, I wouldn’t order it again. If I were feeling it, Tim Tams would’ve for sure been my next move, although I was feeling a little full that day and wasn’t ready for the enormous sundae our server described. I appreciate the option of Australian food, but it’s never a craving of mine. If I ever crave food from the land down under though, I’ll be sure to visit The Australian.
