The upstairs part of this bar is really nice. They have couches in the back room that gives it a homey vibe. I really enjoyed the back room. I thought it would be perfect for a casual drink with friends. They offer well drinks, but not sure about speciality cocktails. The only thing I didn’t like was that on one of the couches, there seemed to be a collection of saw dust or something. There was a pile of it on the back rest. Ive attached a picture.

I went here last night a Unilocal event and I was pleasantly surprised. It is a pretty big bar so they have plenty of room for big groups. We have drinks and appetizers and everything was really good. I would definitely go back here with a group or plan an event here in the future. This was a great way to check out the bar and get a feel for a new spot.

I’ve been to 5th and Mad a few times, almost always for a happy hour of some sort. They must cater to larger parties really well because I’ve been to work, alumni, and friend events here that have gone pretty smoothly. It’s a large space with ample seating downstairs and a nice private area upstairs. Along with high top tables and bar seating, you can get cozy on the couches or chairs towards the back of the second floor space. If you choose to have a few bites, I would recommend the calamari. It is super crispy and seasoned perfectly. The sliders and jerk chicken satay are worthy apps as well, though be aware the jerk seasoning definitely has a kick to it!

Went for a Unilocal event last night so we had the entire upstairs reserved for us. It was nice and quiet on a Monday after work. It’s nice… considering every bar is ALWAYS packed! You know? Anyway, I want to say this place is under new ownership(relatively new). I remember when it was a divey sports bar, went to see the Super Bowl there one year. Anyway, I say this to point out the fact that it is very spacious. The new décor is cute, it’s vintage-y … very cute. Lots of dark wood, pretty furniture. It’s appealing. The staff is great! So sweet. Drinks are reasonably priced which again, is awesome… and even better they are transparent about pricing especially if you want to host an event, they give you package pricing up front. Most places require that you call them, give all of your personal details to the events person and then they give you the rate of like $ 80 per person for Open Bar. This place is cute if you want to host an open bar birthday party and reserve a space. The one star that I took away… it was for the bathroom. There’s a saloon swinging door on the bathroom that almost knocked me out. While they upgraded the entire bar they didn’t do anything to the bathroom. The stalls are SOSMALL… I’m a girl and I had to pee standing up, lol Seriously. I’m not saying we need to have Four Seasons accommodations but this bathroom has got to go. LOL Back to the good stuff… Drinks were stiff… food looked good although I didn’t eat. I would go back… but just be careful in that bathroom! Haha

— reasonable pricing for the area — personable staff — large airy comfortable upstairs area with its own bar(though the music can get too loud) — can make party reservations without putting down a deposit, without a drink minimum, and they will split the bill for you

What a wonderful bar. Super gigantic, huge, two floors with really big comfy chairs. My god what comfy chairs. It has this dark interior but it’s a very cool, casual atmosphere with some very friendly waitresses. There was lots of spaces to lounge around and have a drink as well as many to sit down and have a great dinner. I loved the vibe. The food was AMAZING. If you go, you must 100% get the calamari or just really — don’t even bother. the sauce is tangy, sweet and salty — a perfect mix of all. The calamari is fried to a golden crisp. The lobster rolls were delicious. Soft, chewy bread with some really delicious filling. Their jerk chicken with sauce is cooked to perfection, not too chewy, not too hard and not too soft. Could almost fall off the skewer. Their sliders — Oh. My. God. They cut them in half for us so you could see that it was done medium rare and may I just say they were DONEWELL. I will definitely go back for that. It was a great ratio of veggies, bun and meat. 10⁄10 would go again. All in all a great place to go to with friends and family, great service and great food. Seriously though: Order the calamari. Even if you’re allergic, just order just to get the whiff and the smell. Enjoy!

Stopped by here to meet my friend to watch USA play in copa soccer, this place is in a good location really close to penn station, happy hour beers are $ 6 and regularly $ 8 which is good considering the area, my only gripe is the selection isn’t that great but on the same block is the ginger man if I really wanted different beers, this place has a lot of bar space both upstairs and downstairs, all bartenders were really nice and helpful, there is also a pool table at the end of the bar which you can play for $ 1.50 and can get the change from the bar, one cool thing that was great was that after the USA win the manager bought everyone in the bar a shot of fireball which was really nice and unexpected, I really like the hospitality of this bar, many times that is lost in the city, would be back for sure

I love the vibe of this place. People getting off from work and winding down. Gives it a non touristy vibe thank god. Music was a tad bit loud so really couldn’t talk much. But the service was good.

Came here bc the Ginger Man was packed and when we tried to snag a seat from someone getting up, some girl was super stuck-up about ‘waiting for awhile first’, so… bye, Ginger Man! Not too keen on spending a Thursday night in the proximity of bitchy, rude patrons! The coworker I was with suggested 5th& Mad, right next door. Servers are friendly, place itself was pretty empty for 6.30pm on a Thursday. We were seated on the second floor, where the DJ was blasting updated 80s hits(which I shamelessly enjoy even as a late 90s bb). The noise level, as you can imagine, was pretty loud so I did kinda lose my voice by the end of the night, albeit I do speak softly to begin with… Tom Collins was good and fitty and still hit me, but I felt like it was kind of weak? Food was standard — since we had a vegetarian in the group, we got the nachos without chili and spinach & artichoke dip. Servers are super friendly and smiley, and even the bouncer outside was in a good mood. Probably because of the sunshine. Will def come back again. Even the quietest of people will have a fun time here and loosen up, since it’s not in-your-face.

So I contemplated writing a review for here because I’m being selfish and wanted to keep this place to myself… So before you keep reading promise to not book private parties when I book them! I recently hosted a HH for a group of 20 or so As previously stated booking a private party is insanely easy! — there are no food and beverage minimums! — no room rental fees! — hold on. what? you can do individual tabs? Um yes you can! — you simply put your card down to hold the space and it does not get charged unless you’re a no show Food– everything I tried was really good! — calamari: get it now! — artichoke dip: addicting — nachos: ask for a fork it’s got some generous toppings! Drinks– decent selection Now remember you promised me no booking private parties when I want to book them k thanks! Well unless you want to share the space with me xP

I came here earlier this month for an event. Since it was for an event, please note that I did not have a chance to try standard sit-down service. That said, overall I enjoyed my time at the event and this establishment. There were quite a lot of us, so I was impressed by the attentive service from the wait staff. We had several dedicated staff members running drink and food orders. They were all very quick, friendly, and efficient. I had two drinks(beer) and split an order of mac & cheese and fries with a friend. The food was delicious. That said some items on the menu are a bit pricey, but it is Manhattan so I guess that’s to be expected. The location is in an area I am not often around, so I don’t know how much I have the opportunity to come back, but I would be interested in coming back to try regular sit-down table service. The event was great though, so I would recommend it as an event space. Plenty of room, and great service.

5th& Mad is the perfect place to have a big gathering or birthday party. You can reserve a space without putting down a deposit or paying a minimum like some places do. The only down side is that it does get noisy with the big crowds and music but I guess it’s a bar and not a lounge. I had my farewell party here, had about 20 people and there were still plenty of couches for seating. They also have happy hour specials and a menu with small bites so you won’t go hungry throughout the night.

You know what makes 5th& Mad better than all the other bars? It’s huge. That means the same laid-back after-work happy hour. Only you’re not awkwardly shoved up next to your coworkers while you try to converse normally as if you aren’t almost kissing. You know what’s even better? That they take private parties without a minimum spend. YES! Finally a place where I can host a get-together without sweating about whether my friends are alcoholics enough to meet some dumb spend minimum. As for every other occasion, it’s a good bet with their happy hour special – beers, wines, and cocktails for $ 6 until 7pm. The food isn’t amazing(we did find our Fish & Chips and Chicken panini to be super greasy) and their pool sticks in the billiards room need to be replaced – but it’ll do. I definitely look forward to my next night drunkenly playing pool with my cheap friends here.

This is a MUST check out place if you’re in the area. Cal is the bat tender to go to– nice, friendly and knows how to make a good drink and knows how to make someone feel at home in the area! Thanks CAL– many more visit to come!

This place used to be called Galway Hooker. Not sure if it’s a different owner but it’s pretty much the same space just slightly renovated. It’s a huge restaurant with areas to host a party if you needed to. Super simple process with no minimums. Happy hour specials aren’t great and the staff was just okay, but nonetheless, a good place to go for some drinks.

Solid sports bar with lots of screens– came here for the Super Bowl and it was just right for watching the game. My only gripe is that they don’t use real cheese for their nachos. Nachos and sports bars are like bread and butter– just better together. They used some sort of liquid cheese or cheese sauce– whatever they used it wasn’t the sort of real cheese that was ever solid or that draws when you take a chip, and it was an especially pale color. It tasted alright but the look and just the idea of it was sorta gross and I had a minor allergic reaction after which I think was the gross liquid cheese. In these times in which everyday a new processed food is linked with cancer, it’s irksome to see that something as easily purchased as real cheese has been substituted out for some fake impostor liquid cheese that just grossly sits on the nachos like pale yellow pudding. Getting grossed out thinking about it.

My best friend & I went there on a Tuesday for drinks/apps last week: while the place was really nice and the music wasn’t as loud we felt that they were understaffed. The place was packed for a Tuesday but the staff didn’t reflect that. We ordered the artichoke dip: which was good. Mozz Sticks: which you can tell were frozen and then fried. Not freshly made. and we were still hungry so ordered onion rings. Waited 10 mins then 20 then 30 and finally I asked our server(who was nice) and she must have forgot to put it through and blamed it on the kitchen. Came back 5 mins later with the greasiest /oiliest onion rings I have ever tasted. I took one apart and put it back down. Nice place but they need to realize to bring in more staff. Not sure if I’d want to go back…

Pretty busy on a Wednesday night. There are two levels so there’s plenty of space if you want to come for a drink after work. They only have happy hour specials for drinks, $ 6 all drafts, bottles and house wines. Haven’t tried the food yet but looking forward to coming back with more people

The waitress sucked. She had a sour personality but the space, food, and manager made everything great. I plan on having my bridal shower here because the space is set up so nicely with the private balcony and bar up top. I ate the southern fried chicken and french toast. The french toast was made perfectly and the chicken was juicy. My friends didnt like their bloody marys, the manager switched them out quickly… and it wasnt a problem, like other places i have encountered. For two of the faults… everything else outshined the experience.

**Reviewing for nightlife only** Ample space, ample seating, great service. Had my birthday party here and my friends and I loved it. It’s trendy, but also pretty come-as-you-are. Being the birthday girl, i put in work and dolled up with full Kardashian makeup and a low cut dress, but a few people opted for a more casual look(my feet were envious) and none of us felt – or looked – out of place from the rest of the crowd. No one had a problem getting in(lines can be an issue at some places) and there was no cover charge for anyone. There was plenty of room inside due to the size of the place, and the crowd was lively and friendly. As for drink quality: I’d been drinking wine earlier in the night, so I mostly stuck with that aside from the assortment of obligatory and appreciated birthday shots. Wine selection could have been more expansive, but they hit the important spotss and the hardonnay was solid. I’ve heard from others that they loved the cocktails, so I’ll take my friends’ word for it. Bartenders are prompt and jovial, too. Location was hella convenient too. My group was scattered but this place worked for everyone, which was such a relief. Would definitely come again.

I came in for happy hour drinks with a group of friends. We were allowed to take the high tables all the way in the back until party with reservation showed up, so we appreciated that. Drink special was good as it gets in the area. 2-level spot so plenty of space to move around. Service was reasonably quick and staff was nice. Definitely reminded our crew of the good old Galway Hooker days. Great happy hour spot in Midtown for small or large groups.

Really spacious bar, actually quite huge. The bar service was pretty quick. I mostly stuck to the second floor, so I can’t say how the first floor is, but when we arrived around 10 pm, the bar was just closing up a huge screen on the main floor. The bathroom on the second floor was itty bitty! super tiny. Like, you go to get up from the toilet and your face will smack into the door. there’s no avoiding it. The drinks were solid and didn’t seem outrageously priced, although i didn’t really pay attention to the tab I rang out with. Music wasn’t blaringly loud so you could actually have a conversation with the people you came to the bar with, like, whoa! new concept! talking to people! For a midtown bar it’s really something else and has a good vibe going on for it. It’s easy to get to for any party, whether coming from somewhere in the city or just beyond city limits like me.

Came here on a Friday night with a small group. Place was pretty packed downstairs at around 7pm. The bartender downstairs had a great personality and gave us great service. We moved upstairs to get a table where you can see all the action downstairs. Our server upstairs was nice but was waiting on way too many tables, so it lot took a long time get any drinks we ordered which was kind of a bummer. The DJ played a mix of Top 40 and Hip-Hop. Aside from the waiting, the vibe was great.

Can’t go wrong with this place. I’ve been here for drinks and food a few times and both are always dependable at standard prices. I’ve also had a few group events here in the last two years– Jacqueline and Richie have the best team! ***Great music, casual setting, excellent bartending service*** I came here on a weekend night; it wasn’t too busy and we easily found seating at the bar. This bar is a newly renovated and revamped spot. The crowd was lively and the music was bumping. Trendy décor inside. Great place for some drinks! Several New York beers on tap as well as domestics. Our group ordered the pulled pork sandwich, Mac and cheese, and lamb meatballs. Out of the three I liked the lamb meatballs the best, but the pulled pork and Mac & cheese were very bland. Those both needed a little something something, a pow if you will to bring it home to the taste buds. I’ll defiantly be back when around the area. Looks like a great spot for happy hour or a night of drinks hanging out with some friends. Service was attentive and friendly.

Not too loud but DJ is amazing! It’s a big space, good for big parties but not too loud to catch up with a friend. Unbeatable deal on the drinks! The first one was a little light, but the second was solid. Not sure if it depends on the drink number or the bartender? Overall, love the vibe and will definitely be back. Seriously. The vibes of this bar! I didn’t expect to find a bar this new and spacious in midtown so I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the space. Loved the choice of music too! I was there for a friend’s birthday party and he had a section of the upper level reserved. Our party room was close to the bar which was awesome! There was another large party beside ours who we were sharing«our side of the bar» with so it got pretty darn crowded as the night went on. However, the bartender was AMAZING at multitasking and working his way through the crowd efficiently. Drinks were good and strong, well worth the price. Overall, this bar is a great place to chill with friends. I would highly recommend it to others and can confidently say that I will be back!
