The food is decent here, but they charge extra for credit cards without telling you– and then aren’t very nice when you ask about it.

Now this place isn’t the best Indian food ever, and sure, all the food are in vats, and yes, the waitstaff isn’t exactly the most friend but! 1) the vegetarian combo I got for $ 8 was decent(with excellent saag paneer) And 2) if you eat inside, there are water pitchers in the coolers for free! And man, I love unlimited self-serving water. I guess I’m more into hydration than most though. And so, decent food, great price, unlimited cold water — 3 stars! I’d come here if you want a quick bite before going out on the town, or just don’t want to stay indoors and maybe want to cry silently in public ;).

This place offers very good Indian and Bangladeshi food. From the outside, it looks like a small hole-in-the-wall place, but it is very good! This place is entirely non-descript from the outside, but the quality of the food offered ranges from very good to excellent. There is only a limited menu of Indian, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani foodstuffs, but it is a good selection, and the foods are authentic and taste very good. I particularly recommend both the veg and meat samosas, and the Sag Paneer, although lots of other menu items are also very good. I have NEVER had a bad or a disappointing meal in all the times that I have ordered food from this joint, and I have always been very pleased with the meals that I have ordred from this place. Now, on the other hand, if you are one of those people who, when picking a restaurant, are obsessed with appearances, and you feel that you must have beautiful décor iand all kinds of frills in order to be happy with your restaurant meal, then you may well wish to avoid this place. But if you are simply a person who appreciates good and authentic Indian, Bangladeshi, and Pakistani food, and you do not worry about appearances, then you will like this little establishment.

Will not recommend to anyone!!! Horrid food and con service: 1) Terrible food. I got two orders tandoori chicken $ 8 to go and chicken curry– this is suppose to come with Nan and a side order. There was no naan and side order. The tandoor chicken itself was stale and was bad. 2) Check how you are billed. Given my order i was surprised at the price charged, and as correctly assumed they had billed me thrice for an item. No apologies either. If you want stale food and treated like crap — feel free to go to this crap joint. There appears to be new owners who have run the joint to the ground.

I have gone a few times for lunch. The food is very reasonably priced and youget a lot of it! The counter workers are usually very nice and helpful with any questions. I have tried many different things but I always get the spinach. I love it, I’d recommend it. The vegetable samosa is also excellent and only $ 1.50

The chicken tikka masala is abysmal. The sauce is too watery. They charge $ 0.80 if you pay with a credit card. I threw half of it away. $ 10 down the drain.

Great spot for South Asian food in Tribeca. The reasonably priced platters are large and very flavourful. The owner, Mr. Maghbool, prepares most dishes in house and serves the phulka roti straight from the griddle. Recommend: Chicken makhni,(saag paneer had too much salt), and vegetable curry.

Just had lunch there. Had the chicken samosas which were fresh, flavorful and reasonably priced. Was ready to come back for another visit and just as I was about to leave I heara hacking cough turn around and see the owner or manager whoever coughing across the uncovered food. Will never ever go again.

I have eaten here numerous times over many years. I live nearby. The food(and the staff) are Pakistani. Sometimes the food is good, but it has gone way downhill lately, along with portion size. The food is usually authentically spiced. However, an incident occurred here recently which has soured me on this place forever. Sometimes, this place is staffed by friendly older guys in their 40’s or older. Sometimes, there is a younger staff manning the counter, guys in their late teens or 20’s. I am a regular customer, I am sometimes recognized, and I have never created any problems here. One day, when the younger staff was at the counter, I ordered a lunch special. When you get this order to go, they throw everything together in a plastic container, and if you don’t get to eat it within 10 or 15 minutes, everything is soggy and mashed together. So I ordered the special. Before the guy packed the food, I politely asked if the counterman could put my rice into one container, and the meat and vegetables into another, because I was not going home right away, and I did not want everything to get soggy. The guy glared, exploded in anger, and threw the spoon of food back onto the tray on the steam table. «NOCHANGES. YOUCANNOTHAVE!!» he screamed.(he stared at me, and he would have hit me if he could. I have never felt such hatred from a counterman) I very politely explained that I did not want any extra food or changes. I just wanted the rice and curries packed separately. I even offered to pay for the extra container. He then screamed at me in his language, then switched back to English and cursed me. I could not believe it. I again explained what I wanted, very calmly. He spoke very good English and knew exactly what I wanted. «You XXXking JXXs always want something for nothing». Now I understood why he disliked me. I walked out and have not returned, even though other members of the staff there have been very nice guys.

Came here for a pick up order that I placed on seamless, however they were having issues with their seamless so my order was not ready when I arrived. Although it was completely of no fault of their own, they were so apologetic and did everything they could to make it right(and I swear I was not getting dramatic and flipping out)! They refunded me in cash for my kheer since they were out, and they also gave me a free bottle of water. As for the food, it was very flavorful! I had the chicken makhani with sag paneer and the chicken was soft and tender and fell apart easily and the sag reminded me a little of spinach dip, which I LOVE!(put spinach dip on everything!) Would definitely return as they gave me a business card with their number underlined and told to call instead next time as they have issues with seamless

So this place/owner boasts of being the oldest Indian food place in this area, and I can somewhat buy it too, but I would expect a little better taste wise. hands-down the non-veg is better than the veg, and a, not sure if I’ll be coming back to this place again.maybe.but not sure.hopefully. Also, –1 for the wrong website on Unilocal!,and nobody concerned about correcting this. I’m reporting it after this review.

All quiet on the waterfront on a Sunday afternoon. The dining area was soul-less, with just one counter staff in the back, anchoring the service. Since it was a Sunday, there weren’t a lot of appetizer options and I just wanted a snack. I only saw a plate of meat and vegetable samosas sitting behind the glass. I went with the latter and the kind staff asked if I wanted it heated. I declined since it was to bring back home. At $ 1.50, it was a big piece of geometrically triangular mass of fried dough filled with potatoes, green peas, and carrots. It was a filling way to filled up an afternoon hunger gap. Also at the steam table were several meat and vegetable entrees. Since I didn’t try them, I won’t review the taste. I do pass by this joint on a weekday afternoon and see patrons eating there. Prices are average for the area and another plus is that all their bread(such as naan, paratha) is based on premise. Nothing beats freshly baked bread…

Excellent little ‘Paki joint’ buffet for business-workers in the area. I’ve had many good meals here.

Have you ever had black chickpeas?! You can get them here! Good lunch joint if you work in Lower Manhattan; lots of veggie options. Food is hot and flavorful and all under $ 10! Server behind the counter was very friendly. Will return.

There is only one place I go for Indian food and this is it. They have been in business for over 15 years and the food is delicious. The portion size is fair for the price. The staff is very friendly. They always offer free samples to try. It may not look like much on the outside, but they’ve been there for a very long time, so they know what they are doing. I pass many restaurants to eat here and there are always locals inside. It’s worth it!

I was looking to grab a quick bite and just felt like I have had better food and service within blocks of here. The guys here could do a better job just simply explaining the dishes so that people could make better decision on what they want to eat. Going here I felt like I had to know what each dish in the steam table was. I’ve eaten indian food but am not always too keen on the look of all the dishes that I like to eat and like trying new options. Since none were explained I settled for what I knew I would eat due to the fact that the guy serving my food was rushing me along when there wasn’t even a line. I ordered a chef’s special to go which allows you to choose one meat option and two veggie options. The price varies depending on which meat option that you choose. The food here wasn’t the best I ever had but nevertheless satisfied my hunger. I would have had a better taste from my meal had I had a better experience here.

Went here this past Sunday… meh. Food was tasty enough, and priced at the standard in relation to the area’s similar establishment($ 7-$ 8 a plate). My food was nuked for a bit and a good amount of it was still not warm enough even after all that time in the microwave. My stomach bugged me a bit following my meal(don’t need to go into the details…). I will say that the portion sizes are the largest when compared to how much other Indian joints serve. Maybe I caught them on an off day(I admit, Sundays at 5 = weird hours). They’ll get a second chance, just not anytime soon.

Since my last review, Taste of Tandoor has increased their prices to $ 7.50 for a lunch special, which is simply more than I am willing to pay to eat there. I’ve worked in Tribeca for about 8 years, and this place had been a pretty consistent favorite. I generally order the Chicken Mahkani, Sag Paneer, and the Aloo Jeera(although I prefer the Pakora Curry, but it’s rarely available). The fresh Naan is delicious, although I sometimes opt for the jasmine rice when I’m trying to stretch the food out for two meals. The food is solidly good, and consistent. Pakastani Tea House across the street actually has slightly better food, but Taste of Tandoor provides better value. The only caveat is that the dining room is VERY small, and frequently crowded. I get my food to go about 90% of the time because of this.

AWESOME samosa. Their chicken samosa albeit slightly expensive at first thought($ 1.50 a pop for a tiny bit) is the ONLY samosa that I actually enjoy eating in the city. This is WHAT samosas should taste like… yummy and leaving you begging for more. AWESOME. I pass by this place on my daily walk to and fro West Village(home) and FiDi(office) and on walks back home, I always take in the aromas of the delish Indian food that emanate from this tiny joint. So I’ve been putting off writing reviews for a while but it’s joints like these that deserve special mention and immediate reviewing. Maybe I’ll get some grub the next time I pass by…
