Prepackaged sushi preserved in a refrigerator. This is a grab and go style place only, so just imagine cafeteria or deli market style(and your local deli’s sushi box will likely be more fresh). In fact, my hospital cafeteria has better sushi than this place. Rice is hard and cold, fish is definitely not fresh. Miso soup was also bland. You’d pay comparable prices for custom order sushi/rolls at a sit down restaurant. Not worth it.

The food is fine but the people who work here are very unsophisticated. The food is cheap, but somewhat fresh(most of the time). If it tells you anything, despite my low rating, I still eat here weekly. It’s basic sushi for low prices, pre-prepared. However, good luck if something goes wrong because management is a bunch of clowns. They don’t understand how to work their loyalty program and don’t often understand any issue at all.

Ordering was super cute and their online menu made it really easy to check out what they have before buying it in person. They also have an ipad in the store where you can view the entire menu which was convenient. The store was sharp and clean, really cute. I bought my food to go and the packaging was super neat and cute Inside a blank white paper bag. There was also a little ziplock bag with soy sauce, chopsticks, and even wet napkins. Between me and a friend we ordered a spicy salmon roll, Salmon mango roll, Chocolate Lava cake and Strawberry Mochi Icecream. It was all sooo delicious. The chocolate lava cake also had a light cream inside with the chocolate it was probably one of the best lava cakes I’ve tried. All the food left me craving for more

I’m obsessed with this place. Ive been here four times and every time the food is fresh and delicious. I’ve tried salmon and tuna rolls and side salad and Miso soup and they were all super delicious. The fish is also in generous portions so one roll is plenty for me.

Was really happy with my first experience here. Was looking for a decent sushi take-out spot that got more than 3.5 stars. I ordered the crab meat roll, miso soup and chicken dumplings… the roll was delish, my soup was flavorful and the dumplings were better than expected. Even though it was somewhat pricey at $ 19 for the 3 items bought … I will definitely come back for more!

Very very fresh fish! The restaurant is clean, beautiful and pure, as the sushi they are making ! They have lot of choices, Delicious and so delicate. Every single combination of sauce ingredients and sides was right to the point. Great service, great food, you feel just relax for your lunch, thank you Sushi star for this amazing Sushis place! I highly recommend this place

Came here for lunch and the sushi is by far one of the best sushi I’ve ever had. It’s so clean and the service is so great. My favorite sushi rolls are the Dragon Roll and the Crazy Tuna roll. They were so delicious and so fresh. I’m definately coming here again !

When it comes to sushi, I’ve discovered that expense and quality don’t necessarily correlate. My reasonably priced Philly roll held its own. And, although this casual spot offers prepacked boxes, it also freshly prepares some specialties. An electronic menu on the counter lists every entrée. Plus, paying with the Levelup app deducts a generous discount. From the atmosphere to the actual ingredients used in each offering, Sushi Star rocks!

Maybe they are trying to be too hip?! Not sure how I feel. I asked for a menu, it’s all online. I asked for lunch special. They offered me a free miso soup with any«box» order. I ordered the Salmon Box. Walked back to the office. The miso soup was… less than warm. She grabbed it from the shelf(?) with the pre-packaged sushi box. The salmon tomato and spicy salmon rolls were really good. The box situation is weird because it’s difficult to pull them apart without breaking. The salmon avocado roll was just okay. The edamame was cold. Because it’s in the box with the sushi, which was refrigerated. The buffet deli has better sushi. I won’t be returning.

Sushi is premade and is preserved in a refrigerator. What does the sushi taste like? Not fresh, of course. Overpriced for what it is. You can get a lunch special at a sit-down restaurant in midtown with sushi rolled right then-and-there for the same price. Miso soup a bland mess with a bit of tofu and seaweed. Tasted like the cook cut corners by throwing a package of pre-made miso soup into an unproportional amount of water. They also try a bit too hard to be innovative with their sushi. Sun dried tomatoes in the salmon rolls… WHY? JUSTWHY?

Pretty good sushi! They have a vegetarian bento box option and also a bunch of veggie rolls. Brown rice is offered. Very nice packaging for take out sushi and the store itself has a very modern feel. The only thing is that it is kinda pricey. 1 vegetarian roll made with brown rice was ~$ 7 – 8 and only 6 pieces. I can get that for less $ 5 at most take out places. The sushi roll I had was well made thought! Not too much rice and the brown rice was actually really good! Some sushi brown rice is just«regular» brown rice and falls apart completely. Anyway I may go back if I am really craving a quick sushi fix but the price is definitely a little bit of a deterrence.

Skipped the $ 5 off your first web order via Unilocal /flyer and used LevelUp, which took $ 2 off at this perplexing place. Sweet staff, but a very confusing design: review the menu on the tablet on the counter straight ahead when you enter(rather than checking what’s in the display on the left), then order from the staff(rather than tapping what you want), who then goes to get it from said display(asserting its freshness and even apologizing for said layout). Decent salmon avocado roll in a nicely branded box, but won’t return without another credit. Transaction Amount $ 7.08 Salmon Avocado * $ 6.50 Other* * tax or other one-off adjustments $ 0.58 Total Rewards — $ 2.00 $ 2 First Visit Reward — $ 2.00 Total Balance $ 5.08

new sushi place in this area, and I’m a big fan of sushis, so I had to try. I tested twice to try different things, as the menu is quite full. first time, I had the grilled salmon salad and few sushis, the sunset roll and the crazy tuna roll, and they were all very good, quality of fish is excellent, and the rolls were quite original and even quite nice to look at, and tested excellent. And 2nd time, I had the New Yorker box, very affordable price for very good quality again. I am very pleased and will definitely order again very soon.

I stopped by Sushi Star for lunch-you can eat there or you can take it with you. There is no table service. It is more eat at a small counter they have or take it out. However, that being said, the sushi is fresh and delicious and if you need a quick snack or a meal, [and are in the area] it is a pleasant surprise. I would recommend and will return.

I don’t get it how this place get almost perfect scores? It is just another generic sushi takeout place. I mean fish was good quality, price is on par with any other mid range takeout place. I could have given them 3.5 if I just grab and go. However, the service for eat-in just tolerable. I came in around 3:45 meeting a friend for late lunch. We were the only two customers. Yet I waited well over 30 mins before j got my sashimi and the only salmon sushi I ordered was wrong… I ate it anyway cuz I was hungry. My lunch:2 pieces scallop, one piece eel, a piece salmon sashimi and a piece salmon sushi(the correct one I ordered was salmon tartare sushi). One very small seaweed salad and small sparkling water. Total damage $ 21. Unlikely to return.

Stopped by sushi star while I was in the area and let me tell you how delicious it was! First of all, what a great concept to be able to grab and go or have your sushi made fresh to order. There are no good sushi places in this area so this place is a gem in this neighborhood. I had the infamous«Sushi Star» roll and it was excellent. Great presentation and portion size. I’ll definitely be back!

I was stoked the other day to find that a new sushi place had opened in the neighborhood. 9th Avenue is full of self-proclaimed Japanese restaurants, but they tend to be the type with menus full of crap like Philadelphia rolls and, even less logical, hot and sour soup(I’m looking at you, Ajisai). It was nice to see a Japanese joint that wasn’t trying to do too much. I came for dinner tonight and ordered a chirashi don. I find that chirashi the most efficient way to sample a wide variety of fish without having to pay through the nose for individual nigiri or sashimi. Sushi Star’s version($ 19.50) came with 3 pieces of tuna; 3 pieces of salmon; 2 pieces each of hamachi(yellowtail), red snapper, tamago(egg omelette), and kani(crab stick); and one piece of ebi(shrimp). All of the fish with the exception of the tuna were fresh and flavorful; the tuna tasted to me like it hadn’t spent enough time outside the freezer – basically, like water. The rice underneath was nicely seasoned. Portion size was reasonable: I’m a pretty big guy and came in relatively hungry, and I left sated but not stuffed. The menu also has cooked options like chicken/salmon/beef teriyaki, but, seriously, if you want dishes like that, why are you coming to a place called *Sushi* Star? The space itself isn’t anything to write home about. There is a large refrigerator case along one side of the wall stocked with pre-made sushi, appetizers, and drinks, and a counter with stools runs the length of the window in the front. It’s clear that Sushi Star expects to do more of a takeout and delivery business than dine-in, so, if you’re looking for a romantic sit-down dinner, I’m afraid you’ll have to go elsewhere. But otherwise the interior is clean and well-lit, and the service was prompt and friendly. All in all, I’d come back again for a quick, healthy, tasty and relatively affordable sushi dinner.
