Fabulous weekday lunch spot I found myself in midtown for lunch a few days ago, thought I would give Stout a try, and was very, very happy I did. They have a great selection of stouts(and other beers) on tap as well as more choices available by the bottle. I went for Victory’s Storm King Stout — the first time I’ve had it on tap — and it was awesome. I also had the sandwich lunch special which was delicious — two huge hunks of crispy fried chicken with slaw, maple cheddar, and jalapenos, served with tasty fries and a sriracha aioli. It was enormous… I ate half the sandwich and about half the fries. I sat at the bar and the service was great — the bartender was friendly and efficient and even gave me a taste of their IPA special of the day(too tame for my taste… thus the stout). The décor is basically midscale gastropub — nothing special but nothing amiss. I did note that there were both bright and dark sections of the bar and tables so you could choose your preferred lighting level(which is nice). All in all a fabulous place for lunch — I’ll definitely be back.

Another Stout! This one is a block south of Grand Central Station. I’ve been to the one by MSG quite a few times, but this one is so much more convenient. The bar area is much bigger here, it’s a bit bigger overall, but not huge. The menu is the same and they have a nice beer selection as well as a ton of whiskey. There are also a good number of televisions for all of your sporting needs. I wanted to try a couple of things, so I grabbed an appetizer and an old favorite. My order of pot stickers were good, a bit too much green onion. The sauce was really good though. My main lunch course was a bratwurst burger. The sauerkraut, red cabbage and mustard made a delicious sandwich. They’ve had this on the menu forever and it remains one of my favorite things. It’s a great place for a get together and now there is one closer to where I usually hang out.

This is a great spot to come during my lunch hour for so many reasons, the main one being that is literally 200 feet from my office. The staff is so quick knowing that everyone needs to be in and out quickly as to get back to work. The atmosphere is also great. The restaurant is very large, with two floors each with its own separate bar. My only two real gripes are: 1) the beer list. Its a good size, but not really a lot that I’m crazy about. I end up getting the same beer each time; and 2) the prices, but in Midtown, that’s to be expected. I will absolutely be back. Hmmm, maybe even for lunch tomorrow…

@ Noelle, thank you for responding. I know that your business is relatively new as I use to pass at while it was still being constructed. we did not bring the issue to the servers attention due to time constraints and honestly she was rather rude. Thanks. Denyse

1. Warning: Unilocal says«takes reservations,» but that’s only until 6pm. After that you’re on your own. 2. After 9 there seem to be easy tables to find in the back and on the side. MAYBE upstairs, if it’s open. Often it isn’t. 3. Nice beer selection, including several(of course) Stouts. I ordered the Victory… not bad, but slightly on the sweet side. Nice bucket of 5 cans deal… but who’s gonna drink the hard cider?(Come with a cider-lover and you’re set.) 4. The seafood platter was pricey, but had a nice variety of shrimp and oysters. 5. Our server was Lucas, always on the mark, and great tolerance for our bad jokes. Nice place in Midtown. We’ll be back. –Drink Club is a roving group of NYC drinkers, different bar every week.

Really great happy hour place for after work drinks! So close and convenient to Grand Central, wasn’t overly crowded. Good happy hour specials. Will definitely be back. For food, had the spinach artichoke dip and pretzel, both were pretty good bar food fare!

Great beer selections! I have to give them that. What they could use is loose the attitude. When you serve someone, you cannot have an ego or a sense of entitlement. As much as it pisses you off, your job is to please the customer, as rude as the customer can be. This was my conversation: Bartender: How are you doing tonight? Me: Hi, what is the darkest beer you have? Bartender: How are you doing tonight? Me: …Good. Bartender: Guinness. Maybe you didn’t hear me say«Hi» as the place was loud? Regardless, that just makes you sound like a douchebag and I don’t tip douchebags.

Came here for the Warriors and Lakers games with a few friends. We were seated near the back away from the main bar and were hoping to see both games simultaneously(historic moments for both teams!). One TV already had the Warriors game on, but we asked for a smaller TV next to it that had a hockey game playing to be switched to the Lakers game. The waitress we asked was really nice about our request, and mentioned she would have to get the manager himself to change it. Manager comes over clearly annoyed — Manager: «The game is already on this screen.»(points to TV1) Us: «Right, but that’s the Warriors game. Can we have that TV(TV2) changed to the Lakers game?» Manager: «But the game is already on»(points again to TV1) Us: «Right, but we want to see both the Warriors game and the Lakers game at the same time.» Manager:(condescendingly) «Yes, the Warriors game and Lakers game are two *separate* games» Us: «YES. We know — so can we please have the Lakers game put on that TV?»(points to TV2 again) The manager left and finally changed the TV. I could tell he was clearly annoyed and wanted to roll his eyes, but props to him for at least pretending to be nice! Haha. Otherwise, Stout was fine — they have a big selection of food /drinks. Our waitress was friendly /attentive, and every time we ordered, she came back quickly with whatever it was. It was a big space that has comfortable seating in the back /is just the right amount of crowded on a weekday night to watch the games.

Love this place! It’s exactly what midtown GC area needed. It’s a large open concept bar with plenty of room for large groups of happy hour goers. Great beer selection and the bartenders are friendly and ONPOINT. Definitely the best place for work happy hours.

I’ve come here on a couple of occasions to get drinks and food with friends and find it to be a convenient and adequate place for after work drinks. The service can be a little spotty as it could be overly busy at certain hours but the space is nice and big with lots of seating all around. The place offers your typical bar drinks, beers and some specialty cocktails. They also offer a bunch of bar food that is easy to split between big groups. We got loaded fries which was covered in cheese and bacon. Great for drunk munchies. We also split the Bavarian über pretzel which had a beautiful layer of butter on top. The chicken wings were good as well. We also split the stout burger pizza(large) which actually tasted like a burger. The crust was thin crust and there were plenty of toppings including beef cheddar cheese, lettuce and their special sauce. Overall, a chill, casual place to get drinks and catch up with some good people.

My idea of this place is based on my experience and knowledge of the Stout near Penn — that it’s a Rangers-bar. For me — that’s NOT a good thing as I’m a HABS fan!(FYI — I watch the Habs [and any hockey] religiously — read: nightly, afternoonly, etc.). So, when I saw this location pop up near my job, I tread cautiously, despite my interest to have a new sports bar in the area. I came after work on a Friday for happy hour — a Friday that had both a Rangers game and Habs game. I figured that the former should definitely be playing on the screen, and the latter not likely: I was correct on both. But no matter, the Rangers hysteria was not evident here(maybe because it wasn’t the playoffs yet). The crowd was mostly after-work folks. For some odd reason, they didn’t have a happy hour special the day we came. The drinks list is extensive. We had a few beer and ciders. We ordered the potstickers, mac n’ cheese, and pretzel. All were good. The service was attentive. But I occasionally got annoyed because I felt like they kept coming over too much to see if our bottles were empty when they weren’t. Overall — can’t complain much. This seems to be a safe bar for non-Rangers fans.

The food poisoning was bad, but the staff are lovely. If I didn’t spend all night worshipping at the porcelain ulter, then I’d go back.

dropped by here for lunch. GREAT bar, especially near grand central… after working around here for awhile, i haven’t found too many fabulous bars to go to happy hour with/convenient that aren’t crazy packed. meal was alright — got a burger, fries, caesar salad… decent enough food. would probably come here more for the scene at night time, they did have good fries/special sauce. great service and cool scene. will definitely be inviting people to come with next time.

Really unimpressed. It’s SODAMNLOUD. Like stressfully and abnormally loud– I came out of there with a sore throat and ringing ears. Totally obnoxious everything. We also didn’t like the bartenders– not all that attentive. Pretentious crowd with the stickiest bar stools and tabletops ever. Is this place really«new»? I’d rather go to any of the number of Irish bars on every corner of this neighborhood. Stout, you’ve disappointed me to the max. The first time I went there, they had a DJ upstairs and it was even LOUDER than the last time(and I mean LASTITWILLBE). That first time, I also left about 2 seconds after entering. Very underwhelmed by the service and hostess. Very overwhelmed by the noise and disgusting bathrooms– for a huge bar, there’s not enough bathrooms. You guys are serving beer– have you any idea how many bathroom trips one person’s going to make after a couple beers? Anyway, all in all, I DONOTRECOMMEND.

I had heard things about Stout… loud/crowded/rowdy things and that is just not my scene. Who would ever want to go to a bar like that? But then we were invited to a vendor’s holiday party… and when there’s an open bar involved you make the trip to Midtown. And go figure — I had such a great time! The party was upstairs so I can’t tell you about the main level … but the entire place felt huge. And due to its size the rooms are sooo loud. Sound bouncing off of the wood flooring and wood booths. So loud! But the drinks are strong and well made, so that’s good. The food was forgettable* but the staff circulating the party was awesome. Shout-out to Manny, one of the waiters that night, for his excellent service. As soon as we took our coats off he was asking us if we wanted a drink and made sure to check in on us often… we were never without a drink. Loud crowded bars are still not my thing these days but I’d totally go back for another vendor event for the(free) drinks and great service. *The hosts of the party had trays of chicken skewers and little mushroom tarts passed around. I imagine if you ordered a legit dinner it’d be pretty good.

Stout is a pretty bar and the bartenders are really nice. It is a good place to have group gatherings on weekends, as they are not as busy. There is a monitor that shows the train schedule for trains leaving out of grand central station. The loaded fries are pretty decent. The sliders were slider sized but came on large potato buns, which made the sliders look anemic. The wings are decent. The staff was very attentive to our group. There are plenty of screens to watch games and I had no problem getting the staff to put the Knicks game on one of the screens while football was playing.

A friend and I stopped here for a quick dinner after having drinks near Grand Central. The hostess was extraordinarily friendly and seated us right away. The restaurant/bar itself is beautiful with lots of wood, a large central bar, and surrounding high tops and low top seating areas. There’s a second story which we didn’t check out but looked pretty cool and added to the aesthetics of the interior. It was also decorated for the fall season(pumpkins, hay bales, etc) which was a nice surprise! The food offerings include appetizers, salads, pizzas, burgers, and other entrée options. We both opted for burgers which were a phenomenal choice! I enjoyed the stout burger while my friend enjoyed the bratwurst burger. Both were done well and served to us promptly by the friendly and attentive waitstaff. We both opted for the sweet potato fries which were good but not out of this world. As for drinks, there were a number of beer choices, as well as wine and mixed drinks. They also had a beer of the day special for $ 6. Seems to be a great place for after work drinks with coworkers or friends! For any commuters, they have an updated electronic train departure board near the bar so you can grab a drink or bite here before heading out from Grand Central on the metro north! Definitely was happy to discover a cool and reasonably priced place so close to grand central and hope to be back soon!

Came in here yesterday for happy hour with a large group from work(~13 people) and it was very packed! It seems as if they were understaffed but it was $ 8 for a gin and tonic so no complaints there. Although the bartender did tell me that it was $ 9 the first time and for the second one ran away with my credit card for a while even though I told her I wasn’t opening a tab. Bathrooms were clean so that’s a plus! Will have to try the food next time as it looked pretty good.

Just tried out the newly opened Stout location near Grand Central for lunch and loved it. Great, friendly service. Huge space — dining and bar downstairs and more dining space upstairs. I had the stout burger, which was nicely cooked with a side of fries, my friend liked her bratwurst burger. We both had the beer special(stout of course!) for $ 5 — can’t say no to a $ 5 beer. As an upscale sports bar, this place is ideal for a business lunch, happy hour, work events, or just a casual place to hang out with friends. Menu is moderately priced. The space is nice and new and decorated in warm wood tones. TVs over the bar and GREAT beer selection. I will definitely be back.
