Salon Amici

I just moved to the area and was looking for a new salon… from the outside it looked so inviting but that was nothing compared to my amazing experience! Denise = Genius!!! She gave me the best most natural color and cut I’ve had in years !! My hair looks so healthy I received 2 compliments just walking home 2 blocks and that was only the beginning !! I can’t say how happy I am all my friends and family agree it’s the best I’ve looked in a long time! Thank you Genius Denise!!!

I was in town for work and desperate to get my haircut and colored. My friend did some searching and found Amici. More importantly she found Denise!
She did an amazing job on my hair and we connected instantly! Like we had known each other for years. She is spiritual, kind and pulls no punches. As real and as New Yorker as they get which in this lifetime full of phony, fake and overly PC people it was a breath of fresh air.
Thank you Denise for the great cut and more importantly for one of the realest conversations I have ever had.
She knows what she is doing and will keep it 100 with you all day. If you don’t want that, then your loss.

After my dinner in turtle bay, I decided to get a haircut, and went on here to see which salon is good, came across this hidden gem. Denise is absolutely one of the best hair stylist I’ve ever encountered. She was busy doing another girl’s hair, but she asked me to leave a number, and she could contact me later when she’s done.
Denise did an absolutely divine job. My hair has gotten so many compliments.
5 stars, no question about it.

Was staying down the street at The Kimberly and happened to pop in Salon Amici on my way back to the hotel from a pub on 2^nd ave. At the time my hair was so long and wild I looked like the wild man from Borneo!
Denise was very direct in her recommendation and I told her to just let her rip and go for it. She is very confident and rightfully so as she does know what she’s doing.
The people in there are nice and friendly. She did a great job and my wife approved. I would return but alas I live on the left coast!

Denise cuts and colors my shoulder length hair. The color is so natural and the cut is always perfect. The shop is like a little jewel box. I am always asked if I am too warm, too cold, need a coffee, etc. I wish I had found Denise 20 years ago!

Let me start by saying the same person had cut my hair for 13 years, and he finally retired. It was a bit nerve racking to get my haircut by someone new. Salon Amici was right in the neighborhood, I went in one day an met Denise. I told her my story and she told me we would «take it slow» and that she would keep checking if I liked it. Not only did she live by her words, but she also changed the way I style my hair, and I love the new look. This is a great place and the people are amazing.

I live right across the street from here and stopped in once to have my hair done and have never gone anywhere since. My mom lives in Dallas and had Denise do her Keratin treatment once and said it was better than anyone in Dallas so she now flies in every 6 months to have her do it. I volunteer at the local animal shelter and everyone at the salon always donates treats and money for me to take with me! Also, I can bring my 3lb dog with me when I get my hair done.

I went to this salon to get my hair and make-​up done before my wedding because I saw all the great reviews on Unilocal and the price was reasonable.
A woman, I think the owner, started working on my hair and after a few minutes, I asked what she was doing. She explained briefly, then asked what I wanted, I showed her a few pictures illustrating the style I wanted which was completely different than what she was doing, so she started again from the beginning arguing that what I wanted is not going to work. Then she asked again what I wanted. After going back and forth a few times I just told her to do whatever she wanted and she made a simple bun like she was doing at the beginning. I did not like this style particularly but it looked nice. She added small flowers in the bun which were a nice touch.
Then she started doing my bridesmaids hair even though I asked that she does my make-​up first as we were running out of time and I still had things to do before the wedding. she took care of my make-​up last at the time when we were supposed to leave for the wedding.
I told her that I like light colors, light blue for my eyes.
She put a lot of dark grey above and below my eyes and some strong colored red lipstick.
It is not my style at all as I tend to be very natural looking and I like soft colors.
I kept saying I don’t like it a all, it is too dark, and she kept arguing that it looks great, I look like a ballerina, and she asked my bridesmaids to confirm.
By that time I was starting to feel very distressed and upset as we were late for the wedding, and I did not like at all how the make-​up, then she turned towards her employee and told her, while being two feet away from me, that I have anger management issues.
So I started crying, and we had to leave with the make-​up mostly unchanged (she removed a little bit of dark below my eyes) as we were late. We had to run to the church and all our guests had to wait for us for 30 minutes.
I did not have time to do anything about the make-​up before the ceremony.
Coming back home in the evening, I looked at myself in the mirror, and I felt sad looking in the mirror at the make-​up I still did not like and that will now appear on all my wedding pictures for which we hired a wedding photographer.
My husband agrees that the make-​up was too dark looking especially in the church but my friends said that, even though not my style, it was well done.
So overall I would say that this hairdresser knows what she is doing but I would not go there anymore and would not recommend it as I did not feel heard or my opinion taken into account.

The most talented hair designer I have ever come across. I am very particular and do my best to wait for my east coast trips too see Denise. Her cut is the best I have ever had, style is amazing, I always feel gorgeous when I leave her salon. She is also expert at color and hi-​lites.
She is all New York and I love her personality, she has a heart of gold. I am also fond of her sister that handles the reception and appointing. I happened by her salon looking for another one four years ago and wow did I get lucky.
I feel like it is now my neighborhood, I stay Mid town East to see her as much as possible.
Her salon is small, but very clean and she prides herself in making it comfortable.
I would highy recommend her, close to the W, Benjamin, well I would stay anywhere and NY and make it back to see her!
This coming from a Santa Barbara, CA resident, so she must be good!!!
She should charge more, but; tip her heavily, she is worth it and then some!!!

A very small salon that is cute and located in a quaint area. The people working there and people getting their hair done were all quite nice. However, I asked for a single process and was strongly advised against it. I’ve gotten single processes to cover a bit of gray for years. Instead, Denise suggested a colored gloss and had me pick the gloss color out of a book. Since I didn’t have time to book another appointment elsewhere before traveling, i went with it. I was quite surprised when the gloss cost more than $ 100 (was planning on a single process which is much cheaper per their website), I couldn’t see it after a few days and the hair by my neck wasn’t washed out enough I later realized and the skin there has been irritated and itchy for more than a week. I also didn’t ask for a cut or highlights but was encouraged to do both (but didnt). Overall, I didn’t feel listened to at this salon and won’t be back. I can see how others might like it given I saw a nice color and blow out on someone else who seemed to have been a longtime patron while I was there, but this isn’t the place for me.

I went here today hoping to reverse a bad dye job; I had tried to go from brownish auburn to dark blonde using a box of dye last week, I should have used bleach. Unfortunately placing color on top of color just does not work without bleach. My hair looked like straw; it was awful. I went for a consultation to see what they could do. I had brought in a picture of a celebrity with copper brown hair and another picture of a celeb with strawberry blonde hair; I had wanted to get one of those colors done. Denise had told me that she wouldn’t be able to strip my hair to put color back in. However, she said she could make the dye job less dark, make it healthy and add a few highlights, but not a partial highlight job. I was a bit sad I couldn’t get the colors done that I wanted, but Denise told me that if I hadn’t dyed my hair so recently, she could have possibly stripped the hair and go with one of my choices. Her opinions were a bit intimidating to me at first, but she knew what she was talking about and really does know her stuff. I decided to go with having a few highlights done. When I saw the end result, I was quite impressed, she was able to punch up the dark blonde I tried to do and the subtle blonde highlights looks fabulous! Next time I go back I will either get strawberry blonde hair, copper brown or go for partial highlights. The receptionist was very nice too, and the prices weren’t bad either compared to most salons in NYC. It is hard to find an affordable salon that does such excellent work.

Okay, so I HAD to write about this fantastic SALON… because it is my all time FAVE! I have been to many places all over NYC and the people here and the service is by far the best I have ever had. The interior is very cozy and up to date. And It is so hard to find a salon where stylists actually listen to you and ask you questions and then actually give you a perfect end result, and I am ridiculously happy that I found it because my hair is very important to me. Not only is Denise a perfectionist but I made the mistake of dying my hair BLACK, mind you I am pretty fair skinned so I had to pull the color out. Looking for a Salon, I was quite nervous because I knew my hair would have to undergo serious stress and I wanted someone who really knew what they were doing. Long story short, Denise knew exactly what to do and in one visit my hair looked beautiful and matched my skin perfectly. Normally it takes a few visits but I was amazed with how it came out in one visit AND MY HAIR IS HEALTHY! I would recommend Denise and Alisha to anyone, they really are talented, friendly people and they know about all the hot new looks. It is really easy to schedule an appointment too, being that Cathy the receptionist is extremely nice and will find the perfect date/​timeto fit your schedule.
I hope this helped all of you people out there who are nervous about trying a new salon and are hoping to find one that is updated and affordable!

I absolutely loved my time with all the ladies at this salon. I walked in, asked Deborah, the owner, if she was feeling creative… Her response? «Oh sweetheart, that’s everyday!»
I left everything in her hands, and hoped for the best, and I’m SO glad I did. The woman didn’t quit until she was completely satisfied with my look, and it turned out so incredibly beautiful that I brought my husband down a few days later to see what she’d do with his mangy mane… Same fantastic results! This salon was clean, the stylists were adorable, chatty, and sweet, and their prices were affordable, even for the amazing work they’re doing. Please give them a try… We’re glad we did!

Some people who are not new yorkers will be intimidated by how opinionated Denise is, but I’m telling you now… SHE KNOWS HER STUFF. She did my hair for my wedding (my picture is on here) and I was doubting it the whole time… until I walked down the aisle. EVERYONE said it was perfection and looking back, it was. She offers great advice and wants to uplift your spirits and mood! Great little place with great service.
