I have been visiting them for their $ 12.00 carry out lunch special. The chicken tikka masala is always on point, as well as their naan bread. They set out a buffet during lunch hours, so it’s self service, which is pretty cool. The staff is super friendly and I love the ambience of the place; I would love to have dinner there one evening after work as they look like they have a great bar as well.

Usually quiet and I can’t understand why! Great cocktails and great food! I’ve been a few times now and is improving every time.

I wandered into this restaurant on a bitterly cold January night upon which I must have resembled The Little Match Girl. While there weren’t many customers for a Thursday night dinner service, I felt the service I received was nearly flawless. For one thing, one person on the waitstaff(possibly the manager?) insistent I warm my hands up in some warm linens, which I was initially skeptical about — but I warmed up to the idea. Ordered some naan bread and the malai kofta(no rice) and a black tea. Malai kofta was served in a lovely warm sauce, not too spicy. Naan was served fresh and just right. Ate until I was full, just the right amount. It’s a little pricey, but given the area, it makes economic sense. I’m not often in Tribeca and likely will not be back any time soon, but at that moment it was exactly what I needed. I see several less-than-positive reviews about the lunch buffet and delivery service, but I frankly have zero complaints about the dinner service.

Oh man, I returned after six years and the food was as terrible as ever. They couldn’t even tell me properly whether the food was halal. So I opted not try any of the meat. As a Southeast Asian, I can tell you the food is nowhere near Authentic. The only items I liked from the buffet were the pakoras(potato stuffed fried balls). The spinach(palak paneer) was tasteless and the lentils(Dal Makhni) completely watered down. Can I say yuck? Avoid this place. PS You can google them and you will find an article that cites this as the worst rated restaurant in NYC. They have had health violations.

The food here is below standard, I’ve given salaam Bombay a few tries and have been disappointed every time. The food always tastes like they’re using old ingredients, the sauces are usually very oily and if you order for delivery, expect everything to be spilled over. If you order for delivery, the delivery guys are very rude. I live in a luxury doorman building and they try to run past the doorman without telling them where they’re going. Also they won’t let you take the food to check it before paying. To top it off, if you don’t have the money ready and tell them to hang on, they’ll jam the door until you come back.

Food is below average. The only thing going for it is that it’s a buffet place making it quick and easy for a group short on time.

Ordering from grubhub — they are very hit or miss. I ordered two separate chicken makhani dishes(not«2» but did two separate orders). On one I asked just for white meat and on the other, to make it spicy. I also asked for no rice. They sent two insanely spicy dishes with rice, so much so that I had to throw mine away, it was not edible. They seem to be mediocre for downtown Indian but their inability to follow simple GrubHub directions makes me skeptical of ordering from them again. Basically no dinner tonight. Bummer

I hesitate a bit with the two stars. It’s probably two and a half. Two stars means they deliver to lower Manhattan after 11pm and I didn’t get food poisoning. Three stars means all of the above and I’d order it again. I sit here, now, without food poisoning, thinking I won’t order from them again… but things can change! Who knows what the future holds! My food took over an hour, arrived lukewarm, and didn’t really taste like Chicken Tikka Masala. Did you know that’s a British Pakistani dish? Can’t really ding them for being inauthentic. Maybe that’s what authentic Indian chefs think it tastes like. Because they don’t have it in India. Anyways, this food wasn’t very good. They even burnt the naan a bit. If you’re very tired and hungry it’s probably ok. Try watching television while you eat it. You’ll be fine.

A little pricey for lunch buffet $ 14/person, but this is Tribeca, so what do you expect? Still, amazing deal and definitely up there in one of the best Indian buffets I’ve had. They have lots of seating indoors and 4 tables outside to enjoy the great weather and neighborhood. The tandoori chicken here was pretty tender actually, so I was surprised and pleased as most lunch buffet places have dry tandoori chicken. I enjoyed the paneer saag and other chicken dish as well(not chicken tikki masala, butter chicken, or the usual). What actually blew me away was the gulab jaman, which is hands down the best gulab jaman I’ve ever had. They definitely made the dessert with rose or rosewater somehow because it is very fragrant with my favorite flavor and it really comes out! Kheer was good too, I wish I had the room for seconds. Major complaint is that the naan was by far the worst. It was like room temperature almost and thin as ever.

Stay away from this place. Ordered Hakka noodles and recd something that was nothing close to it. The manchurian and the sweet corn soup was really tasteless.

I’ve only been here for lunch buffet, not sure why… but anyways, the price is very reasonable, $ 34 for two people, which also comes with two drinks, nann bread, some tandoori chicken, and some goat curry that’s not put out as the buffet. Now comes to the food, the nice way to put it is that I feel like all curries are a bit tamed. The more straightforward way to put it is that it could be the most bland curries I’ve had. Maybe it’s due to mass production lunch buffet, but still, it’s just meh.

Horrible buffet food, tandoori chicken was stale and only fresh food was the naan which was little better. i remember going her 4 – 5 years ago and the place was always full with lot of people waiting to be seated… went this time and the number of items in buffett are very few, its not worth the price and your time. this time the place was empty with no people and the food was also not even ok type fare, it was worse. going to avoid this place for sometime now…

Salaam Bombay must exist simply for those who are unaware of nearby Tamarind. The restaurant has survived on this busy stretch of Greenwich Street, due largely to the high foot traffic. And will likely thrive until its lease comes up for renewal. I stopped going here after Tamarind opened. My memories of going here are of the standard North Indian menu, complemented by a few Indian Chinese and South Indian selections. The dal, which is the standard by which to judge an Indian restaurant for basic goodness, is quite mediocre. The menu does feature dhoklas as an appetizer, which is unusual. None of the other dishes – the bhel puri, bhindi do piaza, or chana masala rise to the level of Tamarind’s. The mango kulfi is the sole high-performer on the dessert menu, although the gulab jamun is fairly good as well. With the ambiance of Salaam Bombay being a significant downgrade from Tamarind, and the prices being on par, it is unlikely that I would return.

Service below average but our waiter was extremely nice which is better than sucky service w rude waiters. Food Average. If u love Indian food then this disappoints. Some of the more traditional dishes like the tikka chicken Masala tasted like it c me straight out of the microwave. Which it might just have being we ate there at night. BUT from the set up of the buffet it looks like this might be a decent lunch spot/fast food. Overall No frills, no ambience, plenty of space bc the restaurant is mostly empty. Too expensive for what it should be. The only reason I’m giving this place 2 stars is because of the 20% off coupon they provided for checking in on Unilocal.Other than that, this restaurant’s glory days are well behind them.

I went here for New Years Eve and not only did the party suck but they managed to lose my checked in coat! We came back from the dance floor naively holding our coat check-in tokens(which we paid 5 bucks for) to find there is no one there and the whole place was looked like a tornado had passed through and there were coats simply strewn around the floor. It seems after a few coats were stolen people decided to take any coat they liked since there was no one guarding the place. Three of our party managed to find their coats in the wreckage but two of had had our coats stolen. Some astonished and tried to find the coat checkers or anyone to step up. When i tried to get the management to take some responsibility here are the gems of responses I got: «I dont know anything, I am only the OWNER» «I am not the coat checker» — The drunk organizer «You are only upset coz you are drunk» — owner(??! No i am upset because you got my coat stolen and cant even take responsibility or point me to the organizer) «There were drunk people coming to get the coats, i didnt know what to do» — Coat checker when finally found(Who did you think the coats belonged to in a new years eve party with an open bar — teetotalling nuns? FYI there were 3 bouncers right next to him) There were so many upset customers wondering how to leave the party on the freezing night. One dude had left his apartment keys in the coat, i had some small valuables too Finally, when the drunk organizer decided to punch a coatless guy who i barely dodged as he fell to my feet, i decided I should get out of there. What i really should have done was call the police on them but all i can do now is let others know the piece of shit this dump is.

The only thing slightly comforting about this place is it’s décor. The hotel staff is terribly annoying and has the least intent to make it a pleasurable experience for its customers. The staff was quite rude in discussing the not haves in the menu. We ordered chana masala which was pretty much tasteless. The staff practically banged every crockery against the other while clearing out table. Also, he expressed his dissatisfaction over the tip that v doled out to him n returned the tip to us. Overall a very unhappy experience and v would never try the place again by choice!!!

I recently went here on a Thursday for their lunch buffet. The good — Plenty of naan was replenished at our table. I liked the matar pulao, kadai goshi, chicken tikka masala, diwanu handi, and dal makhani. They were all above average. The not good — the spice level was rather low(which sadly no longer surprises me because they have to cater to Western tastes), the tandoori chicken was quite dry, the table cloth was torn. But the worst of all was the waiter failed to return my colleague’s credit card after bill was paid, it was just laying around on the counter for some thief to snatch it up. Overall, 3 stars. It was fine but like most buffets, quality is sacrificed for quantity.

Just to make things straight: I’m not one of those haters who take on to Unilocal to bash places because the wait line was too long or that their waiter gave them«a look». Things happen and I try to be understanding. When it comes to food though — it’s either good or bad. And boy, was Salaam Bombay food BAD. I went to this place with a ScoutMob offer figuring I’d get a nice $ 40 worth of food for $ 20. Instead of going for one big meal I decided on a seafood sampler to start with. Honestly, I have never in my life had such terrible scallop, shrimp, calamari and fish. I’m not even going to get into details. Just take my word for it and please: do NOT go to that place or you’ll be regretting you went. As some other reviewers mentioned, no matter how big a party at the table(in my case ONE), they add 18% gratuity to the check. Just FYI, in case you do end up there(which I hope doesn’t happen, for your own sake). I’m giving the place two stars because the waiter was accommodating enough to get me a table near an outlet for me to charge my phone.

Most of the reviews I are here are for the lunch buffet. I cannot comment on that as I visited in the evening. Here is my quick points and justification for 4 stars vs 5 — food is 5 starts. Good amount. Reasonable presentation. Very tasty. — service 3 stars. And I would have given 2 stars but the owner or manager was so nice in general — it is hard not to like him. The service staff however would be acceptable at a McDonald’s but definitely not at what tries to be a high end(or at least mid range) Indian restaurant. Barely any English, continuous ignoring of waves, looks, requests etc. and much more. — location — very good. Near TriBeCa performing arts. — décor — acceptable but nothing extraordinary. Has a family feel to it.

Really nice«fancy» Indian restaurant(as opposed to the $ places that heap basmati rice and two curries on a styrofoam platter). The décor is very thoughtful but not ostentatious. There are Indian draperies and miscellaneous decorations throughout, and each table has charger plates with the restaurant’s name which they remove when you sit down. The actual food is quite good as well. I came here with a friend on a Groupon, and we shared an appetizer and a bunch of curries. I also got a shrimp biryani, which I enjoyed very much.
