Fabulous little(very little) Mexican place with authentic food, sweet service that makes you feel you’re visiting your Mexican cousin or aunt at their little restaurant, great food. The atmosphere. Describing this as a very cute charming little hole in the wall restaurant — calling that in the nicest way as it is barely visible on a side street; I’ve passed it countless times. There are possibly 8 little tables and while nothing fancy, the décor is cute, with casual Mexican Décor and charm. The service. I felt like a Mexican cousin or auntie was waiting on us. So sweet, attentive and friendly. I said I was picky with my guacamole and she offered to let me taste before ordering.(Was fantastic.) I told her I liked Mezcel margaritas and she recommended another smoky tequila they had which was super. I asked what she recommended for an entrée, what was a signature dish, and she spoke proudly of their mole sauce as being authentic and homemade as opposed to bought package… And offered to let me taste the sauce before ordering it. So sweet and attentive ! The food: Guacamole. I am a guac snob and this was fantastic. Freshly made, with big avocado chunks, just right. Just the right amount of spice, and when my friend wanted less than mild, she brought a side of chopped jalapeños. Chicken with mole sauce. Really wonderful. The sauce while different than what I’ve ever ordered was perfectly flavored, paired well and just the right amount of sauce with the tenderly cooked chicken pieces. Drinks — my Mezcel margarita and my friends sangrias were fabulous. Highly recommend for an authentic feeling Mexican food and service experience when you want to feel like you’re in a tiny little hidden Mexican spot with no frills but lots of charm.

My hope is when I order a soda that it comes with the meal and not an hour later. Unfortunately the first and last time I order from this place after the experience.

For $ 26 I brought home nachos covered in some cheese and beans. Barely any beef and no jalapeño peppers as mentioned on the menu. Even the salsa was flavorless. The chicken quesadilla consisted of two flat soft shelled tacos with very little meat though the flavor was good. Could have gotten these at taco bells for under $ 10. The lady behind the counter was very nice but they’re in the process of renewing their liquor license so no Rita’s if that’s what you’re looking for!

I live in the neighborhood and I enjoy the margaritas, and the mole burrito. Both are very tasty. Their mole sauce is wonderful. The prices are reasonable and the food is very flavorful. I would not have more than 2 margaritas. They are powerful drinks!

Delicious. Order guacamole(so fresh, with cilantro and onion) and the enchiladas suizas(do not miss – best in the city!), and make sure you order extra refried beans! Also yummy: the tacos al pastor, cactus salad, and nachos. It’s not a fancy place so the beef in the fajitas was not exactly prime, but flavor was good – chicken would probably be a tastier choice. Delivery has always been super-speedy, too. Highly recommend!

My fiancé and I have been here a couple times already. We live in the neighborhood and this is a great local spot for some good authentic Mexican food. The salsa is made fresh, it’s nice and spicy! The enchiladas are delicious! We haven’t had a bad meal so far. We will definitely be back again!

Note before reading. I like their food, however the two star rating is for the extremely high price for Mexican food. I came to terms after ordering from here last night, that this place is a giant rip off for Mexican Food. See below. My Fiancée and I are frequent seamless order-ers at Sabor a Mexio II, and the food NEVER disappoints. We usually get a bunch of Tacos, both hard and soft. I prefer the Al Pastor, The Chicken soft taco, for hard tacos, the ground beef and the chorizo. Actually, I find the Hard tacos to be the best thing on their menu. They also have good tamales. My girl, prefers their chimichangas which are also pretty tasty. After years of ordering Tacos and the same old same old, i was in the mood to venture and try something different. So I ordered the Camarones al Mojo de Ajillo. It’s shrimp and garlic sauce, served with Tortilla’s and rice and beans. Sounds delicious. I was pretty pumped for it as well. The food arrives, and i open up my dish and see 6 small shrimp all curled up lonely looking in their Garlic Sauce. The rice and beans portion was on the smaller side as well. 16.95 for this dish. Now, I don’t have a problem with the price point had their been six nice size shrimp, however I do have a problem when i’m getting ripped off. I had called the restaurant and explained this, and the MexiCAN’T on the other end of the phone didn’t really seem to care all too much. I thought maybe there was a language barrier between us, but he knew exactly what I was saying. He told me «That’s what we charge and if I don’t like it, too bad for me.» Soooo, me being the person I am, told him«too bad on him, and I’m writing a bad Unilocal review and gonna cancel the charge on my AMEX. F that guy/So the convo ended by him saying he «has my address, and will never deliver to us again». YEPBLACKLISTED by Sabor a Mexico. lol This place rips you off, but their food is good. so if you wanna pay 7 bucks for 2 soft tacos with very little meat or 16.95 for 6 small shrimp, order from here. The food is good but just not worth the price point, IMO.

WOW! As a girl born and raised in Southern California(AKA Little Mexico), I am always looking for truly authentic Mexican food in the northeast. Sabor A Mexico does not disappoint. I have ordered from here through Seamless for dinner and tried many things on the menu, and all has been quite excellent! The enchiladas are truly authentic, delicious, and super cheesy and gooey — mm’mm. The tacos are excellent. Even the rice and beans are delicious. The guacamole is also quite good. I definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for REAL Mexican food on the UES.

As a native Texan who has now been rather nomadic for the past several years, I am always on the hunt for great Tex Mex food. I recently ordered from Sabor a Mexico, thinking that the physical appearance of the place had an authentic vibe whenever I walked by. Sure enough, I ordered a cheese enchilada plate recently, and it was right on point. The enchilada sauce was the right gravy texture, and the true signs of authenticity — the Spanish rice and refried beans were exactly as they should be. I will definitely be frequenting.

Everything but the carnita tacos is absolutely disgusting! Shame on you Sabor a Mexico calling yourself a Mexican restaurant! Tres leches cake came hot and gross. The queso fundido tasted worse than old processed cheese with fake chorizo! Absolutely disgusting! I threw it out after one bite. Mole’s queso on 89th is the much better way to go. I grew up on the border eating authentic Mexican my entire life. Even crossing the border every weekend with family and friends to eat amazing authentic food and never in my life have I tasted such a horrific queso fundido like Sabor a Mexico. EVER!!! People, if you don’t know authentic Mexican food, please don’t let them fool you! Ugh!!!

I usually try not to give bad reviews because… why? But I just had to for this place because it was the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in NYC. Sandwich was made on stale bread, falling apart — got a stomach ache after eating it. The server was worse than the sandwich. Basically sat on her iphone in the corner and looked up once, grabbed my own fork and knife and when we asked for the bill to get the F out of there I asked her if the sandwich came with fries(wasn’t being snooty or anything, literally thought it did because it was a lunch time menu and it said it came with fries so i asked) This woman literally jumped down my throat. So rude. Its like I get you don’t like your job but hey not a lot of people do so you deal with it and first rule of service industry: Don’t take it out on the customer.

I LOVETHISPLACE!!! I have been to many Mexican restaurants in New York, and elsewhere, and I believe Sabor A Mexico to among the very best. Unlike most experiences I’ve had with south-of-the-border cuisine nothing is made way in advance, and nothing is greasy or unnecessarily cheesy. Everything is homemade. I have eaten here literally hundreds of times and have always been served the freshest produce and meats possible. Preparations are simple, seasoned perfectly, and delicious. Among my favorite dishes are carnitas, chile relleno, and anything with pipian sauce. Their pipian is the BEST, hands down!!! Prices are very reasonable and the owners are warm and welcoming. What more could anyone want from a great neighborhood restaurant?

First time at Sabor a Mexico. It was pretty good. I ordered carne asada tacos combo with the rice and beans and agua de horchata. For the combo of 2 tacos and rice and beans it was about $ 12 which honestly in my opinion is pretty expensive. The tacos de carne asada didn’t even have pico de gallo or cilantro. It was literally just the meat and the tortilla with a side of radishes and lime. Like I said, the food was pretty good still but too pricey and not enough bang for buck.

I have now ordered from this place 3 times and all three times it was awful! The first time I ordered the chicken it was dry and tasteless and did not come with cheese. The second time I ordered the Alambres totally over priced and bland and the peppers were practically raw not worth it to say the least. The third time I ordered the beef burrito and added cheese they charges me $ 2 extra which is ok since they put a healthy amount but they forgot the beef practically And the very little beef that was in the burrito was old stale and rubbery not to mention how small the burrito actually was for the price they charge. Two bites to get to the meat and it was almost half gone. I called and complained about the quality and size of the burrito, They sent me a new burrito but the delivery guy did not give it to me because I had taken a few bites out of it. Thank goodness he did not give it to me, I saved myself the heart burn and shitty taste of real Mexican food! There are so many better options on the upper east side I would not suggest this place even to my enemies!

Stumbled in here by accident walking down the street, went inside for a quick bite. Small restaurant, tables really small and feels a bit awkward, got Guacamole and Calamari for starters, Guacamole is excellent! every bit as fresh, tasty and delicious as you can imagine. Now the Calamari was a little uneventful, taste was good but somewhat uneventful. I had shrimp Tacos for entire and they were absolutely outstanding! absolutely great, the real reason to go back for sure, think this might be better for take out as the service was pitiful, order to go and you will love it.

Good, authentic Mexican food. Seems more like delivery place than a dine in though. Less than 20 seats. Chicken Tamale was good. Tacos were small but good. Rice and beans were standard. Service was«inattentive» to put it politely. Seems like a family restaurant that isn’t used to customers dining in. Two people, the mother, and what seemed to be the chef/cook, both on phone calls in the front of the house with no regard for the volume of their voices. We aren’t demanding diners but maybe keep down the loud Spanish conversations when you are sitting 4 feet from customers, especially when you are on a cordless and are free to have your conversation in the kitchen or out front. I would try delivery from them but there is no reason to dine in here again.

What a cute little place! This is right up the block from my apartment so it is super convenient. It’s TINY but cozy. The selection is great! The chips and salsa have a nice kick. I ordered tacos which were very authentic. They are super friendly here and very attentive. I found out they have delivery so I definitely will be trying that out soon!

Decided to order from here since my go to, Dos Toros, wasn’t available for some odd reason on Seamless. Ordered 2 burritos(carnitas and chicken) and an order of the steak tacos. DELIVERY: Now, I’m only 7 blocks away from the restaurant, yet they took 55 mins to deliver my food. The window of time was supposed to be 30 – 45 mins. I was so hungry by the time the food came that I just didn’t care anymore. FOOD: The tacos were tasty… worth 8 bucks? Definitely not. The burritos were meh. You would think that they’d label the containers so that I wouldn’t have to unwrap both burritos, searching to figure out which was which. Careless and lazy move on their part. The lettuce that came with the burrito in the container was already turning, so obviously not fresh. Overall, I won’t be ordering again. my burrito is larger, tastier, and cheaper from Dos Toros than Sabor A Mexico II. Waste of time, money, and calories.
