Rieu Cafe

Nice, strong coffee. Had a nice selection on the menu. Didn’t love the environment for sitting, but is a great option if you want a quick cup or to go.

Top reasons to come to Rieu Café inside the Sony Atrium:
1) Never a line longer than 3 people
2) They accept CUPSapp so any beverage, any size, special milk comes to around $ 3
3) Extensive menu including matcha latte and year-​round pumpkin spiced latte (!!!)

This is a little coffee stand in the middle of a public atrium inside the Sony building. Good place to sit around in Midtown if you need it. I had the latte worth soy milk, pretty good!
I’ll be back since this place is two blocks from work, not too crowded and they take the CUPS app! It’s basically a discounted coffee plan that works at several cafes throughout NYC. If you download the app, use 8nuep for $ 10 credit.

Illy Coffee is a safe and very solid choice. The baristas here are also very experienced and the place offers a vast selection of drinks. Recently discovered their coffee frappé with chocolate and coconut — perfect for a hot and humid summer day. Not sure why anyone would go to the Starbucks across the atrium with this gem nearby.
Also, they time the CUPS app which means you can get any drink for about $ 3. Hard to beat.

Not bad if you’re looking for an espresso, but still not the best. I had their hot chocolate, but I prefer the one from starbucks next door.

Try Thursday coffee if you are around — you can get free ground coffee in exchange for a cup of coffee. Happy Thursday with Illy!

My favorite spot to grab ice coffee on my way to the office in the morning. Ice latte, ice cappuccino, ice coffee, etc — everything is good. I’d prefer this place to Starbucks located next door.

Great coffee and lattes. I tried the green tea matcha latte and the coconut mocha latte and they were very good. The flavors are stronger than starbucks. Must try! The people are nice as well and the area is good for a chat or an interview.

It’s midtown and located within Sony Plaza/​walking distance from corporate office and Central Park nearby. Location location location, you’re paying for not only that but also quality. Illy coffee has always been one of my favorites, unlike the mega chain that is next door. They offer different sizes which is nicely sampled on the left wall so you know what you’re getting. Frequent patrons can get the loyalty card, or what I like even better — the CUPS app. Download it and you are welcome.

The café is snuggled inside the Sony Atrium here off of Madison Ave. I have heard good things, and wanted to try it out especially since they brew Illy brand coffee.
We walked quite a long way with my family to get a few lattes. When we arrived 15 MINUTES BEFORE CLOSE we were greeted by two men with an abundance of attitude. They had apparently seen fit to close the store ahead of the posted time and begin cleaning the machines making it impossible for us to order.
This kind of unapologetic, brash unprofessionalism easily warrants a one-​star rating. (And a swift slap across the greasy face) however, as I don’t want to spend the night in the NYPD jail, I limited myself to the review.

One of the best cups of coffee in midtown. Additionally, the staff is friendly and quick with the service.

Great little place to pick up coffee in Midtown. Located in the Sony Atrium right next to Starbucks but their coffee is far superior. If you go during business hours you will be greeted with a friendly smile and hello by fabio a very friendly barista.

Good coffee is not easy to find in NY. Not for someone used to the coffee culture of London. I really don’t like trip coffee. this little gem does proper italian cofee. I love. I think it will become my coffee place forthe near future. they only need to work a bit o their food options.

When at the Sony Atruim thing a fine place to get a coffee… nothing special but yet you are in midtown.

Horrible coffee. Priced the same as starbucks, but tastes watered down. Dont bother telling them how you like it made, they dont listen.

Used to be good, but the quality of the service and the friendliness of the staff has deteriorated over the years. Mostly now they are just plain rude or inattentive, especially the morning staff.
And the coffee isn’t that outstanding that I couldn’t get it somewhere else. Too bad. customer lost.

Good:
Coffee (Better than Starbucks across the atrium, but definitely not artisan)
Chocolate croissants and everything bagels
Plenty of room to sit and enjoy the food and drink
Neutral:
Espresso drinks (Mostly average tasting beans. I respect and appreciate the multi-​step process of espresso making — but the times I’ve watched the barista, he seems rushed and wasn’t following the proper procedure for espresso making (applying 30 pounds of tamper pressure, not letting espresso shots sit for long periods of time). My belief is that if you’re going to do the multi-​step process, you should do it right. Otherwise, this is just a long, drawn out pretense.
Bad:
Wait (2 people max at any given time for paying, food preparing and coffee making = 10 minute wait in the mornings)
Price (Holy mackerel, did I just spend $ 10 on breakfast?)
Food Service (When ordering bagel with cream cheese, make sure to specify very very specifically how you want it. I didn’t, so I got an untoasted bagel with a translucent layer of cream cheese/​brie mixture. I hope it’s brie because I’m not sure cream cheese is supposed to have a funky after taste.)

Don’t know why people wait in line at Starbucks when this excellent coffee stand is right across from it and often has no line. Coffee is better here and none of that Starbucks ordering BS. They have a frequent purchase card and use high quality coffee. Service is excellent. Please patronize them instead of Starbucks. It’s not that I never patronize them but I prefer places like Rieu Café which are harder to find than ever in NYC.

Coffee is very good and the guys working there are very attentive.
