this is a good place if you want some contemporary art, mostly after the 1970s. it’s a small gallery with sculptures, installations, and paintings. artists featured in this gallery are generally successful artists. the ground floor is for new, living artists and some of the well known: Olé Ahlberg, Romero Britto, Bob Dylan… but if you want to see more history, go to the basement: there is at least one artwork by Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Basquiat, Ringo Starr,… the list is endless for such a small place. technically you cannot take pictures when you’re in the basement. there is a camera there. but i still see people taking pictures(just saying). the gallery owner is also very open so you can talk to him anytime, especially when you want a deal. his working desk is the first thing you see at the door.

Pro: Yes, they have original Basquiats and Lichtensteins(Warhol: yawn), but don’t miss the newer art of Britto & Thorpe currently on display. Con: They were a little stingy when I asked for more information about an artist– not wanting to part with a postcard(!) until I confirmed I wasn’t a tourist. Also, asking for prices was a touchy subject; am I supposed to have an unlimited supply of funds?

My husband and I come to New York often and love to just stroll and see where the road takes us. And we a lot of the time head down the tried and true paths from before, but it’s fun to check out new neighborhoods and the weather was perfect for walking. As walked by this place and almost just kept walking, but I took a second look and love my art(and not being in any hurry) decided to take a peek. Really glad we did! Fabulous, fabulous super bright in your face make you think ART! Marilyn Andy Warhol art, Superman comic art, oh and a cool iconic Bob’s Big Boy near the front that I really loved. Also a nice collection of famous mugshot photo’s that are simply amazing, so tempted to buy one. Thinking about it… And the price for those weren’t to crazy, really to own something fun and different. The guys working there were very welcoming and helpful and engaging as we walked around. Made us feel welcome, I just might have my very difficult to buy husband’s next birthday present taken care of… shipped!

«Is this an original Warhol?» «Yes.» “And that’s a Basquiat, right?” «Yes.» This is why I love New York… I randomly wander into a gallery, drawn to the bright colors, and suddenly find myself staring at genuine works by some of the greatest artists of the 20th century. It’s a pretty big gallery, with multiple rooms and floors, and«Pop» refers both to the pop art style and icons of pop culture that pepper the walls like Batman and Muhammad Ali. They also have some kinetic sculptures that no one yelled at me for touching. Win!

Great art at great prices. Into Haring? Warhol? Basquiat? How about Lichtenstein? They have ‘em. Want to own an original by Ron Wood(yes, THE Ron Wood of the Stones)? Ringo Starr? They have them too, in addition to well-known contemporary artists like Peter Mars, Burton Morris and Romero Britto. They also have limited edition photographs by Ken Regan(Beatles, Stones and others), Neil Leifer(monumental sports photographer) and recently, Lawrence Schiller, who took the last photo shoot of Marilyn Monroe. It’s amazing stuff and they add new artists all the time. The proprietors Jeff and Rick are really great and very knowledgeable about the artists and art in general, so go in and have a chat. There’s something for everyone at Pop.
