Papaya Dog is a hot dog franchise synonymous with New York City. With several locations throughout the city, I’m sure you’ve probably eaten here quite a few times yourself. They serve hot dogs of course, as well as fries, chicken tenders, cheap burgers, as well as tropical fruity drinks like virgin versions of Piña Colada, Mango and Orange. I stopped by to order a Chili and Cheese Dog. Simple, savory and it hits the spot. Come on by if you’re in the mood for cheap good food.

Honestly I don’t know how anyone can really complain about this place because you kind of know what you’re getting. Greasy, low quality food but extremely low prices. It’s literally the perfect drunk food. Always feel so awful after but I can’t resist the cheese fries. And the guys who work here are always so funny. If you want something inexpensive, quick and greasy to eat this is the place

My least favorite of the Papayas. I’ve only been here once, but was not very satisfied with the dogs here. In pretty much every way they were inferior to the many other great places for hot dogs in town. Flavor was meh, not a great snap, bread was blah. The only saving grace is I think they are cheaper than some other spots. However, I would rather pay a little more to get a better dog.

I’d never had a Papaya Dog and I was right there, so why not? For $ 2, I got a dog with my usual kraut topping. The dog had serious snap, but the kraut was lacking. I tried my boyfriend’s dog with onions and mustard and wasn’t into it. As touristy as it is, if I’m going to eat a hot dog again, it’ll be from a street cart.

I am so grossed out right now! Check this out. Ordered 2 hot dogs and fries. People were in front of me and talking back and forth with 2 employees(basically 4 people spitting over my hotdogs). Very politely, I asked the worker to replace my order bc … People were talking and spitting over my food! Would you believe that this arrogant man told me that he he has no hot dogs and that he will not replace them, AND that he will not serve me! WTF! I’m pretty pissed at this point. Common sense would first– never place my food out on a assembly line to be spat on, and second just toss the 2 hot dogs and buns which essentially probably costs about 75 cents tops for the sake of a repeat patron. He refused to give his name and his managers name! Lord only knows he probably has terrible hygiene and doesn’t wash his hands after taking a crap at work! Fuc$n gross!!!

This place is the new place to go for hot dogs with onions in NYC. All the food carts are now this Halal stuff. You can’t get a good hotdog any more. Until you go here! They are awesome here, I only had hotdogs with mustard and onions. This place is right up there with WhiteCastle in my book!!!

Mais um local como opção para comer barato, o hot dog não é tudo isso. O ambiente é bem simples, há algumas mesas sem cadeiras.

I like this joint for what it is — grubby American late-night munchies — but it’s no high quality food. I always crave cheese fries(fries with nacho cheese) and these always hit the spot. This place always has fast service(although rude — the employees will rush you to order/pay faster) and cheap prices. Don’t get the corn dog though — they’re refried for heat, and sometimes they’re cold.

The hot dogs were way too salty and they don’t give tap water, only bottled water. There are better papaya dogs elsewhere… The service was quick, friendly and to the point though so I’ve given two stars.

Nestled beneath the 6th Ave equivalent of the Flatiron building, this divey joint is pretty much the only game in town in terms of cheap wieners for the Washington Square set. Ever since beloved Gray’s Papaya was cruelly transformed into yuppie haven Liquiteria.(No, of course I’m not bitter) Papaya Dog lacks the same charm and quirky décor /signage as Gray’s — but they do have the benefit of chili dogs that will set you back a little under 3 bucks. And their chili has pinto beans in it, which is a tasty but often rare touch which it comes to topping dogs. Their corn dogs are also a tasty after midnight snack, as long as you don’t think too hard about them. They sit pre-made for a while, and then are sliced down the side and re-dunked in hot oil upon ordering. And every now and then you get one that’s still jarringly cold inside. Still, the guys here always greet you with a smile and speedy service. And I’m grateful for this spot for a cheap late-night snack. I hope the rumors of it being pushed out for something«upscale» and annoying prove to be unfounded, and that these dogs stick around for a long time to come.

If you need late night food that’s still open… this is one option. I usually regret it the next morning though. I do like the papaya drink they have here too.

Great late night food and cheap. Also the drinks they have are great. I usually get everything on it. However watch out for the cheese sauce. If its not fresh it’s pretty nasty. Overall a good spot for late night munches.

I’ve been coming here a couple times, and honestly this place is really great. The location is pretty convenient because it’s literally right next to NYU, which has a ton of great amenities nearby. The two dogs and a drink deal can’t be beat, but they have a lot of other sweet deals here too. Furthermore, the fries are great and at a very great price. However, I do think the hot dogs here aren’t any different from Papaya King, or Grey’s.

Just OK I thought this was the hot dog joint that Anthony Bourdain raves about, well it’s not. I found out there’s a bunch of these around the area. Average hot dog for under two bucks. Not much else to review here. I won’t be back. Thanks

It doesn’t look that amazing but for the food and the price — LOVE. I got a hotdog which was amazing and fries which were also amazing for 3 bucks! It was extremely quick and convenient they have lots of choices but Ill probably stick to my hotdog. The people weren’t extremely friendly but it was not bad at all. There are no seats, its a come and go spot, but for the value it is completely perfect. Some people expect to much. Believe the hype! TIP: Cash ONLY!

Couldn’t come to New York without getting a New York dog, and I really didn’t want to get a hot dog off the street. The hubby and I were in the West Village exploring when a sudden hot dog craving came over me. I saw what seemed to be a lot of locals stopping by and grabbing a bite here, so I figured the food had to be good. I ordered a spicy sausage dog and had onions, cheese, ketchup, and I think they placed some special sauce on it which was really good! I enjoyed every bit of this dog. The service was friendly and fast, and the price was really cheap for the area. If you have a craving for a New York dog give this place a try – they are worth it!

This place is a NYC staple with great prices, great food, great Papya juice there really is nothing to explain. If you are in the area and pass by you have to stop in and get something

Lives up to the hype. Worth the years off your life for good cheap street food. This place is something of a landmark. It’s worth it to bring someone here if your nearby just to show them.

Fast, cheap, greasy, and most of all, tasty. If you want cheap food after a night of drinking, go here. The crowd can get a little sketchy here at times, but it’s worth it for the cheap food! I usually just grab a cheeseburger, with everything on there, and walk the streets while I chow down.

How can you go wrong with Papaya Dog? You just can’t. This spot attracts everyone. The food is hot & serves as a perfect combo after a late night of drinking. Carbs & fast food galore, PD delivers satisfaction one order at a time. This place makes me happy. I’m salivating as I’m writing this review. There’s not much room to dine in as there are a few table tops with no chairs. Who cares if you have to stand while scarfing down a Dirty Dog or Corn Dog while simultaneously washing it down with some fresh Lemonade. No complaints here. Papaya Dog is the epitome of greasy, edible, and cheap eats. Make sure you get yourself a Dirty Dog with all the fixings, a Corndog, & the Chicken Sandwich Combo. The Chicken Sandwich Combo is crunchy, well seasoned, & is nicely balanced with the sauce they add to it. Be careful the fries are piping hot. Thank me later.

(First… a moment of silence for Gray’s Papaya.) I’d never eaten here before, as I spent my teens hanging out on West 4th busting down 2 Gray’s(the iconic $.50 franks) and a piña colada, and remained faithful through adulthood. I returned to West 4th that day to find Gray’s gone and I nearly collapsed. Hands shaking, I rang several friends: «I want answers! Now!». Gone? Damn it, there wasn’t even a shrine! No decency. In funeral procession fashion, made my way reluctantly to Papaya Dog. Out of the ashes has emerged hope… my hotdogs were terrific! Life does go on :)
