4 instead of 5 just because I have only visited the establishment once and just for a drink. But… if I go for additional visits I may be swayed into upping my rating. I wanted to get a Chai from Starbucks but google maps was wrong on their location and instead I found this little gem. I love my Iced Chai and I have to say Oren’s definitely has one of the better ones out there. Very tasty! And quick service is a definite plus for the morning commute. Thanks Oren’s!

Question to owners of this store — does your chocolate have maltodexterin, HFC, starch, yeast and other processed chemicals? Negatives — the cashier didn’t know if their chocolate had high fructose corn syrup and other chemical junk in it or not. Doesn’t even want to try helping — with only 3 customers in shop at that slow time. Billed me while talking to some lady customer and in that rare moment he had with me, he chickened me out with one word, sorry, i don’t know. Not a single word more. I wanted to shop more and ask bunch of things, but hey, which business in NYC cares about humans really? Why should he care — he is getting paid hourly, no matter what. Of course, he didn’t have time or courtesy to sign me up for member card — so I can generate revenue of 12 coffees for the house.(and get one free in return) Positive — serving lady was sweet and she clearly told me that their Chai latte and chocolate might be too sweet for my taste(my Lehman question to determine if their stuff has processed sugar in it) Mocha with less chocolate was good, not too sweet not too bitter and smooth to swallow!(unlike other coffee shops, where you feel like having over-the-counter syrup — in the name cappacino) Amazing collection of Tea! Especially Assam/Darjeeling(Indian tea hubs)‘s spiced teas — Big plus! And it’s not overly priced. I don’t know how can someone consider 4 $ coffee cheap — but still it’s cheaper then FIKA and Blue bottle and other French brewing house around.

If Starbucks is 4-star then this place is 5-star. I roast my own beans and have ten different coffee brewers at home; the coffee at this place is amazing especially the African variations.

Amongst the plethora of Starbucks in the Times Square area is the gem that is Oren’s Daily Roast. The line is long in the morning, but it moves fast. Everyone is very friendly. I love that they have assorted pastries from different vendors such as Balthazar, Doughnut Plant, and Corner Café. Coffee is flavorful, but not overpowering.

went there for my first time 10 minutes ago, i was waiting on line with my headphones, didn’t know how the line worked and didn’t hear the guy ask what i want. Not only did he try to skip me he gave me the biggest attitude, i’m pretty angry right now guy ruined my morning. can’t believe people have employees like that

Mmmmmm… good balanced latte. I also had an almond croissant. I don’t usually order croissants because they end up being hard and dry. But I thought to take a chance and was pleased. The croissant had a great balance of sweetness, flaky-ness, and chewy-ness. This coffee place DOESNOT have seating but standing room only. In the mornings, the line moves quickly! and you could possibly be out in around 5 minutes. *high five*

I want to love this place — it’s close to my job and where else near Times Square can you find hipsters? Unfortunately this place is inconsistent. I get an Americano every single time and it’s always different. When it’s good it’s really good but oftentimes it’s just too diluted and tastes like regular coffee(regular weak coffee). Okay in a pinch but there is a much better place a few blocks away. A plus is that they have Doughnut Plant donuts. The coconut cream is great!

The staff was friendly and helpful. I have bought one pound of Viennese roast. I really enjoy it every day since the day I purchased.

great spot for a good well balanced cup of coffee. whether you like a simple brew or something fancier like a caramel latte or mocha this is the place. It’s a 4 and not a 5 star for me only because they aren’t as consistent as I’d like them to be when making my caramel latte. sometimes there’s too little caramel, sometimes too much. it’s kind of a downer when i’m walking to work, latte on hand and I take a swig and it’s not done right :/overall oren’s is still my coffee spot, a lot better than starbucks. Plus they have doughnut plant donuts and balthazar almond croissants! shut up and take my money! but please don’t mess up my latte…

Lines out the door indicate that this coffee shop is hoppin’! However, once you get inside the hipster baristas kind of let you know that they’re too cool for school. Most are nice, but avoid the chick in the knit cap. If she waits on you, pass and let someone else serve you because she is a downer. If you get the chai, make sure you ask for it to be sweetened — add vanilla syrup or something because that bad boy is BITTER! They don’t warn you that it’s unsweetened, because, again, they’re too cool for that. Their coffee is very good, but way too hot to be safe, so be sure to ask for a sleeve before they hand it to you, and be careful!

Caramel ice blended drink is unreal. May have won me over from Coffee Bean a block away. Loyalty card — get 12 drinks for a free drink.

This coffee shop is conveniently located next door to my job. :-) Pros: Good vanilla flavor(both iced and hot lattes) — their cranberry scones and whole wheat croissants are two of my favorites. — friendly staff that greets you with a smile on their face. — they offer coffee card, which allows you to have a free coffee of your choice after buying 12.(if you buy coffee every day here this will be good for you to get a free coffee and save a little money one day) Cons: I think their prices are a bit high considering the fact that they aren’t Starbucks. — Long lines, and the staff does not seem to work fast because it can easily take you 10 – 15 minutes to get a cup of coffee here. Be ready to wait for your turn, and have at least 5 $ for that latte you love. BUT if you are just buying a reg. cup of coffee it will of course be cheaper :-)

A coworker introduced me to Oren’s Daily Roast & I am completely hooked. Friendly staff and quick service. Mornings are busier but the line moves quickly. Much better than Starbucks and they carry a variety of locally made delicious baked goods including the addicting unique treats from Donut Plant. Be sure to get a member card so you can get free coffee.

The coffee’s good and the selection of goodies is as well — and while most of the people who work there are friendly and helpful there’s one girl there who is surly and unpleasant — she usually wears a knitted hat of some sort and wow. Not a good customer experience if she waits on you.

First off 15 bucks a pound for coffee is just ridiculous, I don’t care if it’s shade grown organic that saves every creature and plant in the world. Second 2.35 for a medium coffee with barely any flavor is just wrong. I remember when people were complaining about a large at Starbucks being 2 bucks. Now everywhere is more and you get less coffee. I’m not sure if they have a dark roast brew on hand but they need one.

Even in the heart of Times Square, amidst the tourism-nightmare, and in the middle of a depressing, pouring, cold rainstorm, the counter-staff here was incredibly nice, helpful, and all-smiles. Walking in, my first pleasant surprise, however, was not the counter help. It was the overwhelming scent of coffee — strong and delicious. I am not sure what tehy brew here, but it smelled like my favorite Stumptown café back home. I didn’t want to leave. The setup inside this café is sparse and sad-looking, but I suppose the location gis more designed to carry-out than to linger for even more than a minute. Perhaps the café-feel is much less necessary here. They have some interesting coffee-shop-like items on sale on shelves and in baskets around the place, but because the inside is so poorly-decorated, I didn’t want to stay for any longer than I had to. That said, they make a decent cup of coffee, the staff is chatty, interesting, and basically always delightful, and the place smells like the inside of a French press. Ain’t nothin’ wrong with that.

It’s surprisingly difficult to find a great coffee shop in Manhattan. Do I expect too much? It must have been all those years of conditioning my generation with Friends«Central Perk», believing coffee houses in Manhattan like this actually existed! Well, Oren’s may not be the epitome of a cozy coffee house with couches and cute wooden coffee tables, but their coffee and service come pretty damn close. I order a Soy Chai Latte almost anywhere I go, and this Oren’s was the first to suggest it a different way. «Would you like honey and cinnamon!?» a cheerful Irish looking lad suggested. «Ummm wow that sounds amazing, yes!?» After taking my first sip I was hooked. I came in here again the following day, and not only did they remember me but they remembered my order. I liked that, it made me feel special. :) I also grab their coffee beans ground on occasion for my french press at home, and the coffee never disappoints. I just wish there were more in the city! PS– They sell select Balthazar scones and other pastries!

Dropped by today after the gym for something sweet, but sugar free and lo and behold they had exactly what I was looking for: a pomegranate iced green tea, unsweetened. I was really happy to find this as I wanted something with sweetness, but not over sugary. This cold and tasty drink hit the spot and I enjoyed it a lot more than the latte from my first visit. That’s an extra half star from my previous review. Another half star comes from the service. Each of the guys there talks to you as if you’re a regular who comes in all the time. They’re super friendly and it’s very refreshing than just being asked your name and pushed on down the line. With the weather(slowly) getting warmer, I think I know where I’ll be visiting regularly for some tasty iced tea!
