When I first heard about this place, the idea seemed great because i like bulgogi and i like hotdogs! The hotdog would be on the bottom and the bulgogi would be on top of the hot dog… i had to eat mine section by section so it was more like a bulgogi sandwich + a hot dog. Nevertheless, i enjoyed it. Their«spicy» fries were good too but it wasn’t spicy at all, which was disappointing. The décor reminded me of the korean fried chicken places, so it was cute. After we were done with our deal, either the manager? or the owner? stopped by and asked us what we thought of the food and gave us coupons… but i guess i won’t be able to use them now =\

Good, creative hot dogs with a Korean twist(or you can get more traditional hot dogs). Very tasty, and reasonably priced. The French fries are also very good. Crisp and airy, they’re called spicy fries for some reason, but when I had them they weren’t at all spicy — just delicious. I didn’t try the coffee, but my girlfriend did and although she loved the hot dog, she said that the coffee was not very good. It certainly didn’t look to be any better than any ordinary cup of coffee. Go for the hot dogs and fries. Drink a soda.

I stumbled in here one night when I was out with friends — the plastic food out front drew me in. I have to say the Bulgogi-Kimchi hotdog was surprisingly delicious — it looks like a hot mess, but is so damn tasty. I should’ve sprung for the combo, but the hot dog was more than a meal. I’ll hunt this down the next time I’m in the city and maybe try the coffee.

Just returned here after some time! It’s still as awesome as it was the first time! I got the chili cheese dog, which was delectable. The Asian woman working today(4÷20÷10) was really friendly and attentive. She made it her«mission» of the day to ensure my fries were extra crispy! Thanks!!! And as Jane K. mentioned, they now have a frequent customer card! I’ll be filling that guy out for sure!

Their fries are soiled in savory crack. I seriously could care less about my drool-inducing bulgogi dog when in the presence of their spiced french fries. Pair that meal with an ice cold lemonade and I spent $ 8 on a magical meal that put me in a food coma. Thank you for making frequent customer cards… I will use mine. Frequently.

Great concept. Alright taste. The bulgogi could have been cooked a little better. Good service. Overall, it would be a good quick lunch spot. Not a place I’d recommend to out of towners.

Well, the inside here is bright, reminds me of a 50’s diner but shiny and smaller tables. Friendly staff and almost no one inside on a Tuesday night. Tried three hot dogs. Pizza dog — a bit soggy, but the bun was okay and the toppings were decent. The caliente — spicy pepper and onions. Not sure what’s there, but the bun was burnt and the hotdog nothing different than the pizza hotdog. Last one — bulgogi w/kimchee was great on top of the hotdog. Probably could’ve totally forgone the bun and the hotdog, for that matter. Interesting, but not worth $ 7. Overall, expensive for hotdogs. I can see it’s not in a great location — too far from most of the college students and too expensive to really attract volume crowd. Food-wise — eh, it’s okay, but it is just hotdogs that are terribly overpriced.

I had the wrong impression of this place, for sure! Having read and heard so many reviews of LA’s Kogi truck, I was expecting post-partying 3AM drunk food here… but I walked into what I can only describe as a hot dog restaurant that was packaged like Pinkberry. The place is extremely clean… with bold color decors… and a Korean recipe as the backbone and completely overpriced(hello, Pinkberry!). The flavor combination of the kimchi bulgogi hot dog was very good. It is completely genius to combine those three ingredients together and you can bet your a$$ that I’ll be making some of that in my next rooftop BBQ… but I won’t charge my guests over $ 7 for each. And upon Unilocaling this review did I discover the real name of this food joint is NY Hot Dog ANDCOFFEE. That is such a weird Asian oxy moron… any Asian who will eat a hot dog and coffee(with milk) together will be meeting the porcelain gods very shortly.

New York Hot Dog & Coffee’s no-nonsense name belies their value proposition. Even the laminated food samples out front aren’t as mouth-watering as the real McCoy. Beyond hot dogs and coffee, New York Hot Dog sells dogs with kimchi and bulgogi. Together. In one bun we trust. Wait in line, place an order with the friendly staff, then wait some more. Slosh VOSS if you’re parched. Try the coffee. It’s good. I had a kimchi-bulgogi dog($ 6.50; #7 on the menu) which had a smattering of sesame atop a bed of kimchi and bulgogi. Sadly, the kimchi was the weakest player, but potato bread made for a welcome recovery. The dog was flavorful — get it spicy — and the bulgogi tender and plentiful. All in all, the Korean dog was a compact package of goodness that I easily put away. If you’re a hungry hippo, get a combo to score fries. For best results, sit in the rear lounge — there’s a skylight and a flowing mural — and enjoy your hot dog.

Our #3 stop on the 1st day of food crawl around NYU. Definitely thumbs up for originality. I wish it has more kick to it, ordered spicy, barely tasted any hotness to it at all!!! Gotta cut down to 4 stars and the kim-chee they used wasn’t the freshest one either, it’s those poorly made in the jar from any Korean supermarket. One more thing, they shouldn’t put spicy fries on their menu as the fries were just nothing else but oven-baked fries. Enough with the negative, now onto the good part. They’re very generous with the bulgogi amount they put on top of the frank, I must say. If I hadn’t eaten anything else that day, I would’ve finished it. The combo price, by adding $ 2 for fries/chips and drink was a good deal. And for those of us coffee lovers, the coffee here was 89cents and my friends liked it a lot. My suggestion is come here when you haven’t gotten anything to eat, the hot dog ain’t small, like Gray’s Papaya, it’s HUGE bulgogi, Kimchee dog and the corn bread they used, it’s great complimentary as well. Totally worth my visit! Nice mural on the back wall!

Love at first bite. I love it when I go to a restaurant and instantly know I’m gonna have a «five star dining experience». We went here on a blistery cold Friday night and weren’t sure what we were in for. Gourmet hot dogs? Okay. Sure. I am not even the biggest fan of hot dogs but I couldn’t pass up their 2 for 1 deal they have daily from 5pm to close. As we walked in, we were greeted by the friendly and bubbly cashier up front. I was instantly drawn to the Texas dog. We wanted to share some fries and the cashier suggested we go ahead and share a soda since we get free refills. Hey nice suggestion! :) Anyway, our order came up pretty fast and my Texas dog was loaded with chili, jalapeños, two types of cheeses and crushed potato chips. OMG, I chomped down on that juicy hot dog and was in heaven! The dog was cooked to perfection, the chili was delicious and topped off with the spiciness of the jalapeños, it was an awesome array of flavor! I highly recommend! I’m going back to try the bulgogi with kimchi dog next time and their burgers also look amazing too. I cannot wait to eat here again. And I didn’t wait! We went back a second time and I tried the bulgogi with kimchi dog. AMAZING! We also opted for the spicy dogs which couldn’t have been more tasty. Highly recommend this place for a cheap and awesome meal!

Here’s my take on the Bulgogi dog. I think it’s pretty good. Based on the hot dog meat alone I would have given this a 3.5 but the Bulgogi(marinated beef) is what elevates it from mediocrity. Very tender and juicy. I think I could eat the sandwich without the hot dog, just fill it with the Bulgogi and still be happy with it. It wasn’t just the hot dog that is the reason why I feel comfortable giving this place a solid four. I was hungry and thought the Bulgogi dog wasn’t big enough to satisfy me so I ordered a Dak-kalbi Taco(Korean taco with marinated chicken) to accompany the hot dog and was floored by how well marinated and tasty the Dak-Kalbi was. Kind of sweet tasting. As much as I liked the hot dog, I liked this even better. The fries are done very well. Just the way I like it. Crispy on the outside yet nice, moist and tender in the inside. So few places makes good fries these days. I thought they were a little stingy with the small amount given though. Oh well. Better to have a small amount of good fries then a bucket load of crappy tasteless ones like so many fast food places serves you I guess. It’s just that it is so good that I wish there was more given. The staff was very friendly. One of them, a lady, struck up a conversation with us and asked us how we liked the food? She was genuinely curious about what we thought and not because the company asked her to do it.

How funny is this place? Its like crossing a Yorkie and a Sheepdog! However! I like clouds in my coffee and not Kimchi so lets take a walk on the wild side. I walk in today to this kookie place and look at the specials. Hot Dog with Bulgogi(Korean beef) french fries and cole slaw, $ 7.50. Deal! The french fries were really good, not too oily. And the hot dog? Friggin awesome! It wasn’t a water dog that you would get on the street but a nice size link complete with grill marks and topped off with sweet sweet Bulgogi. yummmm. If Kim Jong II would have one of these dogs, maybe he wouldn’t want to blow up stuffs with bombs. Maybe he’d have a Coke and live in harmony with mankind? Maybe? Hey Kim Jong, you better chill!

So I’ve known that Koreans do like to use hot dog sausages in some of their dishes(my friend puts it in her kimbab). And more recently, I’ve discovered that there is a Korean stew that they throw hot dog sausages along with kimchi and Spam into. I was told that there’s reasons for these American ingredients explainable by Korean history. You can look it up. So as odd as it might sound, a kimchi bulgogi hot dog doesn’t seem as outrageous to me. It tasted alright, but I would’ve wanted my bulgogi juicer. It was kind of dry. For $ 6.50 it is priced steeply but we went for kicks. I wouldv’e wanted to see them try a soondobu hot dog or a mandoo hot dog, hah.

I had one of those sober Saturday nights and decided to have my unfulfilled drunk food the Sunday morning after. I’ve been dying to try this place, after trying the Kogi Taco Truck in LA, I was sold on korean fusions. I had the«famous» Bulgogi Kimchi Hot Dog… Light buns– regular hot dog with piled bulgogi and kimchi with lettuce enwrapped. The first couple of bites were absolutely heavenly. Combination worked for me got a sense of heat from the kimchi and coolness from the lettuce. The sweetly marinated bulgogi accompanied with the saltiness of the hot dog, turned out to be a great infusion. Don’t try to be a girly girl when you eat this, I had kimchi sauce over my cheek and bulgogi spilling everywhere. I probably went through about 15 napkins or more through it all. Once I got about half way through it, I felt like I was about to get a heart attack. To tell you the truth it’s a lot of meat, with the hot dog AND the bulgogi it was getting a bit overwhelming for me. Tough to handle, but I was somehow able to get through it. Worth a try… but I probably won’t do it again for a while now. I think it would’ve been a lot better if it was on that drunken Saturday night. I also took a couple of bites out of The New Yorker and The Texan. Both had chili… for me, it wasn’t anything too special. Maybe a little better than something you’ll get from a street cart but not by much. These hot dogs do not compare to Pinks in LA… if you’re coming here for just a non fusioned hot dog probably not the best place. I’ll only come here to get the kimchi bulgogi hot dog.

I was fortunate enough to make it to NYHDC today on their 1-year anniversary. To celebrate, they were giving away 100 bulgogi hot dogs to the first 100 customers, starting at 12:30pm. I was #41, arriving at 1pm, making me ask why more people didn’t come for a hot dog that is both free and delicious. So let’s get to the good stuff. NYHDC is long and narrow, kitchen and counter on the left-hand side, with 3 – 5 tables along the right side and front. Near the rear of the front room, is a small kiosk for condiments/utensils/napkins, and a cooler for free water(just ask for a cup at the counter). In the rear, is another room with brick walls and ~6 white plastic tables/chairs, almost making you feel like you’re outside but with an enclosed roof. I ordered the Bulgogi Hotdog($ 5.99) which includes thinly sliced marinated beef, kimchi, lettuce, and pickles. As I waited, I noticed the hot dogs on the grill, they looked larger than the normal size. Mmmm. After 4 – 5 minutes of waiting, I was finally handed my hot dog on a paper-like tray with one end open, so that you can just slide the hotdog off the tray into your mouth. It just looked mouth-watering, topped with small bits of bulgogi, onions, kimchi, and pickles. The hot dog was almost unnoticeable under the mountain of toppings. Although the hot dog had sliced rivets along the top, it was still juicy, had a nice crunch(just how I like it), and also had a hint of heat(spice) to it. The bulgogi was tender and marinated with flavors of soy, sugar and garlic. Fairly standard at what you would expect at a typical Korean restaurant. The sauteed onions cooked perfectly, still maintaining a nice crunch. They were definitely generous on the kimchi, which was well-fermented(sometimes restaurants mistakenly let their kimchi ferment too long and it turns sour) though it did not have a lot of heat. What is kimchi without the heat?! I was a bit let down, hoping that the hot dog packed a bit more heat, as it was only slightly noticeable at most. For the casual spice eater, it may be enough, but any spice lover will definitely feel cheated. There were also some diced pickles somewhere in there, though they were far and few, and barely unnoticeable. As I was eating my hot dog, I did encounter a small white piece of hard nail/bone. A small inconvenience that some may find as a turn-off. I also noticed the cashier frequently come by to clean the tables whenever someone was done eating. She made it a point to keep the tables clean, bringing a wet rag to wipe them thoroughly. As I left, I was treated to the warm farewells that you experience at Korean restaurants. The three chefs and cashier happily said goodbye all at once and to come again soon. To sum it up, I thought the Bulgogi hot dog was pretty delicious though it was nothing out of this world. All ingredients were fairly standard in what you would expect of Korean food. It was more concept and bringing something unique to how a hot dog is normally served that made it stand out. Would I come back again to pay for a $ 6 hot dog with kimchi and bulgogi? Very good, but until they amp the level of spice in this hot dog, I probably will not be coming back any time soon. NYHDC: Thanks again for the free bulgogi hot dog!

I know this place is a Unilocaler’s heaven, so when the opportunity came a while back I checked it out with a friend. At that time, I remembered that the place was nice, hot dogs were juicy. fries were fresh. So i decided to bring a friend out of town here for a quick bite, and perhaps since it was late(9:30pm), every single item fell off the standards. Maybe the late shift workers didn’t know how to do their thing, but my hot dog was VERY dry, like LUKE warm, all the ingredients were not in place and literally falling off the bun On top of that, the fries lacked the freshness it had previously disappointed because I only want to take people to GOODPLACES, but this one failed to impress !!! Bad taste in my mouth, don’t think i’ll be coming back !

Not sure how long NYHD&C has been established but the place pops when you walk by in the w. village. It’s brightly lit, and very welcoming with the«open» feel and front of the store exposed to Bleecker St. It’s the next best discovery — Korean/American fusion(behind the Korean/Mexican craze). I came here after dinner just trying to find a place that served coffee and it was open at midnight — so I walked in. Upon entering, I saw this enormous photo of a bulgogi and kalbi hotdogs, and I thought to myself, «Whoa, when did this place open?!» The closest thing I could get to LA’s Korean taco trucks. I ordered a mocha latte with non-fat milk. It actually wasn’t bad. For midnight snack ordered the kalbi hotdog, which I thought was kalbi meat in place of a hotdog, but I was pleasantly surprised to see a HUGE dog hidden under mounds of kalbi on top. It was so large, they can’t even put it on a normal hotdog bun, it looked like a freakin baguette. Thank god I was sharing the thing. Took my blackberry and snapped a pic of myself and my new friend, the kalbi hotdog. Then I gorged and took a huge bite. Yum. I mean, I guess I can’t fault them for ordering beef kalbi — she said they ran out of chicken kalbi? But we had chicken kalbi. It was tasty. You don’t even need ketchup and mustard because the kalbi is marinated with its own sauce. It was $ 6 for the hotdog, probably the most expensive hotdog I’ve ever had! Great to have a place that’s not restricted to K-town, I think the clientele will expand to diverse people once they learn how to pronounce bulgogi and kalbi, and know what it is. The service is great here and the workers are nice. But don’t come here to use the bathroom if you don’t buy something. Saw a guy put on a hissy fit for not being able to go to the bathroom since he wasn’t a customer. Bravo overall though, but I’d like to see even more fusion items to surprise me. What about bulgogi chili? Drool.

Normally I would NEVER, EVER say anything like this, but for NY Hot Dog & Coffee I will make an exception: I love this meat. It was big, juicy, and even when you start to think that it can’t get any better, there’s even more meat piled on top. This was a necessary food and refueling stop during PRIDE weekend this year. Originally on a mission for a deli sandwich after hitting several bars, we were sorely disappointed because there was not a single deli to be found anywhere in the village. Then, lo and behold, there was one… with an asshole owner who said«no! Deli closed!»(when it was clear the entire damn thing was open) Then, NY Hot Dog & Coffee came along. My girlfriend *hates* hot dogs, so to get her inside of this place? You know she’s hungry. She ordered some sort of chicken hot dog thing with pieces of chicken on top covered in an absolutely delicious sauce. All of it wrapped in a hot dog bun. I must confess that I had more than one or two bites of her meal, but the«hey that’s mine!» glares were totally worth it. All told it ran about $ 4 or $ 5 for the chicken dog thing itself. A little steep if you plan on getting more than one or a drink to go with it. But so totally worth it if you’re in the mood to splurge and stuff your face full of almost any type of meat you can think of. And for that to appeal to two gay ladies during PRIDE weekend? You know it’s gotta be good.

I had been thinking about bulgogi hotdogs since October(thanks, Maria)… around the time of the Presidential debates. I thought there was a place that made them around Boss Tweeds, but it was nowhere to be found. I was very excited in anticipation for this new twist of the American hot dog. I had a renewed faith since the reinvention of fried chicken and frozen yogurt(the verdict is still out on automobiles… even though the Hyundai Genesis is the 2009 North American car of the year. Yeah, Beyonce and all the single ladies are putting their hands up for this one). On a cold Wednesday evening, I took a group of friends to try this business. I thought the spicy bulgogi hot dog was excellent. It is a spicy hot dog that is handsomely dressed with bulgogi, lettuce and pickles. The hoagie bun may be too much bread but this is wildly delicious. On the contrary, the spicy dak-galbi hot dog was a vile concoction. I ate only 1⁄3 of it and gave up. I wasn’t full either. I was not happy with the dog. It was dry and as I chomped, I let the morsels fall out of my mouth. The fries were stale too. Thumbs down. The seating area in the back makes me feel I’m in some trendy lounge in Murray Hill K-town. Very nice. The staff was very friendly; Stepford wife super friendly. They would come check on us to see if everything was ok. Sandy(the girl at the counter) is a cutey. On another visit, I returned right before closing on a Saturday night and ordered wraps. Unfortunately they ran out of rice, but I ordered bulgogi and kimchi bulgogi wraps anyway. Not bad. Overall, I think this store is cool. I applaud NY Hot Dog and Coffee for finding new ways to make hot dogs interesting and providing great, friendly service. However, unlike BonChon chicken and the frozen yogurt franchises, I don’t wake up in cold sweats thinking about their product. Here is your moment of Zen: Some things don’t need to see the light of innovation since this is the best dog in show. ________________________ | Don’t even think about it, |. .. .. .… | Kobayashi.
