New Taco Express

This place is a tex-​mex joint run by a bunch of Chinese people. What the hell?
Anyway, this place is pretty sketch looking from the outside, and I would never have entered had my roommate not suggested this place. First of all, it’s super cheap, which is awesome. Second, they’ve got all the tex-​mex favorites. I got a soft grilled chicken taco, a hard-​shell grilled steak taco, a small side of rice and beans, and chips and guacamole. All of that was $ 11 and I feel like I got a good amount of food. They don’t skimp on the chips at all, but they weren’t that great. The guacamole is a weird shade of pale green, which reminds me of the kind you make when you mix sour cream with a packet of dried «guacamole mix». The beans were actually really good, but don’t waste your time with the rice; it’s literally just steamed brown rice.
The chicken and steak in my tacos was pretty solid, as was the tortilla for the soft taco. The hard-​shell tasted like something from the store, so I’d skip that.
Not sure I will dedicate a full meal to this place again, but I will stop in when I get a taco craving.

Really Quick Delivery!!! but the food I ordered was not adequate for a filling meal.
If ordering burritos you probably may want to order a taco or two on the side. My chili beef burrito was flavorful but wet, crudely thrown together and very much on the thin side.
I think next time I will just walk over there and order instead of calling a delivery from this place.

We order lunch from this place it’s cheap and fast. Generally the food tastes good. My lunch generally costs about 6.00−9.00. I like their shrimp nachos.

I don’t do delivery on principle (I want that tip for a real meal) so I know in person what, exactly, this place looks like and more importantly, what it feels like to be there. The answer to both is not great, but good enough.
For one, nobody here speaks English. A sign of any authentic Mexican place! Except they don’t speak Spanish either though. No biggie. The management is either all related or are really, really closely tied in terms of personal drama. I’ve seen one of the girls behind the counter run out in tears as one of the managers shouted at her in a language I couldn’t understand. I continued to quietly eat…
My meal of choice! $ 4.00 buys you a plate of «Mexican» rice with a bunch of «fajita» chicken or shrimp on it. It’s not really that special, or delicious, but it’s edible and as cheap as you get if you want protein and don’t feel like shopping or cooking (and I never do).
After months of faithful service, I returned this weekend only to find that they had moved. And nobody called me? Apparently the rent got too expensive and they relocated to 10^th Avenue. Perhaps I should follow suit.
PS. They do have huge, delicious bags of chips for like $ 1.00. Worth investigating.

This is the worst delivery I’ve had in NYC. Seriously… I’d send my worst enemy here. Absolutely pathetic. I ordered nachos-​chips were beyond stale… just kinda a sad excuse. But the enchiladas take the cake! «covered in ranchero» Is what the girl told me. Two plain ol store bought tortillas with unmelted shredded cheddar cheese inside with melted plain ol cheddar cheese on top. I made things that tasted better than this at three years old. Asian people ran the joint bc my delivery slip wasn’t in English or Spanish and the food reflects that. It’s seriously so bad

We do Taco Tuesdays for lunch. By that i mean i call up this place and order my chicken fajita tostada salad sans jalapeños.
After a few minutes of having to speak super slow to the asian lady on the phone and repeating yourself over and over again, a grumpy little asian delivery guy appears at the front desk with my food within 15 minutes.
Watch out. This dude will throw shade at you if you dont tip enough — but honestly, youre not getting a 5 dollar tip for walking 2 blocks with a 6 dollar salad. Be serious. Throw some more attitude to me and ill take my 2 bucks back, thanks.
I took for granted how good these tostadas are here… well that is until i ordered one from some taco joint by my apartment in Forest Hills. Now way shape or form even comparable to how satisfying and delicious New Taco Express’s salad is.
Id give you guys 4 stars if your delivery guy didn’t cop so much attitude all the damn time with me. GOOD FOOD, CHEAP, SATISFYING, REALLY QUICK DELIVERY … but your grumpy old delivery guy needs to relax with demanding more tip money. I dont have time to deal with you dude, just give me my salad.
PS: i have never been in this place, only delivery. i fear if i see this place in person, i might never want to eat here again. as is my fear with alot of places.

It’s available on SeamlessWeb and is super cheap, so I tried it out. I had a bean-​filled tortilla, jack quesadilla, and rice and beans, and the whole thing was, like, seven bucks. It also showed up in 15 minutes. 15 minutes! That’s how long it takes to get up to my office from the lobby, I think!
So, a decent showing, but nothing spectacular. It’s a great value for, you know, *fast* mexican food, but it’s definitely nothing flashy. It was pretty tasty, and you can’t beat the value and speed, especially when seamlessweb is offering a discount.

Actually very tasty tortillas. The pinto bean & cheese and the Tex-​Mex Chili tortillas were among the better fast-​food Mex I’ve had. Affordable and yummy! For this alone I would have given New Taco Express 4 stars, but… Unfortunately, the deliveryman rings the doorbell repeatedly without giving us time to come to the door. Not only is this obnoxious, but it is extremely disruptive. This is a place of business and that kind of rudeness cannot fly. I tried to tell him to ring only once next time and to wait for us to come to the door, but he didn’t seem to understand English because he was completely unresponsive. It will probably keep me from ordering from here often if at all. They lose a star for this.

we have dinner here 3 weeks ago in Sept… the décor in the restaurant is fun and interesting.
like the house taco chips and the salsa sauce… we are not familiar with mexican food but the food we ordered are reasonably priced and tasted fine.

The décor and service are exactly what you’d expect of one of these tiny, Asian-​run Tex Mex places. HOWEVER: tortillas are FRESH and the melted cheese on top is golden.
I got the steak enchiladas for $ 5.85 something. They managed to keep the hot stuff hot and the cold stuff cold — even though everything ended up in the same land-​fill clogging clamshell.
