So sorry that this place closed! Sentimental value for me. Always met my Daughter here for dinner when she was going to NYU.

I’m really gonna miss this place. The food here was phenomenal. I just hope the new place that’s gonna replace M&G is just as good.

Came in randomly one night(we were waiting for our table at Ippudo and decided to go somewhere warm and grab a drink). We tried the tacos there which were surprisingly decent(not the best, but definitely edible). The happy hour is also pretty good. Service was ok.

I went here for lunch with some coworkers. I ordered the chicken sandwich with fries. The sandwich was pretty bland and the chicken was kind of dry. The best part of the meal was the fries. They were nicely cooked with a good flavor to them. They were a little skimpy on them though. Overall not a great impression. With so many other places to choose from in the area I don’t think I’ll be back.

Great friendly service, good for groups. Might be good for drinks, but the food was pretty average. Odd mix on the menu of Irish, Mexican and Italian items. I ordered the Caprese salad with Chicken. Yes, sacrilege, chicken on a Caprese salad? My bad for ordering a combination that was never meant to exist together. Both the chicken and the mozzarella were bone dry, rather than moist and juicy. The Balsamic reduction, was more of a bland bottled salad dressing than a bold balsamic drizzle. The spinach leaves were Ok but unexpected on a Caprese. It should have been called a spinach chicken salad with Mozzarella, not a Caprese. Filling lunch, but average and not what I was expecting given the name.

I’m on my way to puking in the bathroom. The portions are wonderfully large but fuck it’s so unhealthy and for the moon high prices and mediocre quality, the portions are still not worth it. I regret it every time I can’t motivate my lazy ass to fucking walk a block away to faaaaar better and cheaper food. The ambience, service, and other customers are that of a shitty dinner(old people, tourists, and stupid kids who have nothing else to do and don’t know any better bars). STEERCLEARFRIENDS.

When I give up trying to get a coherent answer from the waitress and walk up to the bar to place my drink order, I figure I know how the rest of the meal will progress…

*Must Try: Frozen Strawberry Margarita. *you can’t go wrong with guac or nachos. *Cottage Pie: like a shepherd’s pie. Very fulfilling. *good for large groups. *not a single order was forgotten or messed up.

Don’t be a lazy bum like me. When you see the behemoth front of M & G(and you really can’t miss the straight-out-of-a-midtown-sketchpad design), keep walking another 4 blocks east. There, you’ll find bars on bars on bars – from the swankiest, most innovative speakeasies, to the ultimate dive bar enthusiasts’ denizens. And then you’re in safe territory. Because otherwise all you’ll find here are radioactively neon colored frozen margs that are super icy and sweeter than Kool-Aid that’s drinking its own Kool-Aid. And way too many NYU wannabe frat bros who have never actually set foot in a real fraternity. The guac was the only redeeming factor. And I guess the margs are so massive you won’t waste a lot of money buying multiple ones. But even those factors, combined with my supreme sloth, won’t bring me to this establishment again.

Do you spend a lot of your day around greenwich village and the east village? Then I have a restaurant you need to go and experience for yourselves which is M&G’s also known as Murphy & Gonzalez. A great combination of irish and mexican cuisine a great selection of alcohol and for those that are beer connoisseurs. There are beers you don’t usually have full year access to that you can get at this restaurant. One of the great things I enjoy about this restaurant is that, even though the menu has changed a bit since I first went there I have never been disappointed with what I ordered. One experience that I must share is that I used to be quite particular with the steak I would have, in that unless the restaurant menu said prime rib or some variation of products that make up prime rib I wouldn’t eat it. Then one fateful night I am at the restaurant and I see that they have skirt steak I had never had it and I was hesitant, but I was ready to take a dive and try something new and boy was I happily surprised it had an amazing mushroom sauce on it that I can’t even give the right words to classify how great it tasted all I have to say is go try it as soon as you can. Though this restaurant lays a little off the beaten path I highly suggest giving it a shot to indulge your culinary palette.

Food isn’t that great here. The drinks are also wishy-washy. Sometimes they’re really strong, sometimes they’re really weak. I usually only go for the $ 5 frozen margaritas, and even then I get sick of them.

came here with a bunch of my classmates, during happy hour, and we had a great time. Normally you are only allowed to partake in the happy hour if you sit at the bar, but our waiter was so nice, he allowed us to sit at the table where we were able to sit in comfort. $ 5 dollar plain margarita or $ 8 dollar flavored margarita– go for the flavored ones– especially strawberry! $ 1 dollar nachos — choice of Chili, Beef, and chicken. Chili nachos were the best!(must order 3 minimum) we ordered margaritas and nachos, and concluded the night with Fried Icecream– it was so good. don’t know how food is during lunch and dinner, but I definitely recommend this place for happy hour!

Great $ 5 frozen margaritas that really beat the summer heat!!! Had dinner here too. Portions for the guacamole and chips are hugeeee. Same goes for the wings. Service is friendly, accomodating, and fast. They kind of whined about having to use 5 credit cards on our bill. Its new york city, who the hell carries cash? The server was nice enough though. 18% gratuity automatically added for parties of 6+. Oh and the prices are kinda high considering you can make it all at home.

I know what you’re thinking, because I thought it too: «An Irish bar that serves Mexican fare? Sign me up for a car bomb and a plate of nachos!» Ok, no. We ordered delivery and everything was soooooo gross. I’m talking suburban strip mall quality ingredients. Our fries came in a SEALEDBROWNPAPERBAG that was soaked in grease and condensation –the fries were limp and tasted like the paper bag. If you want to get a great burger in a darkened pub in that area, walk over to Laguardia Place and try GMT.

The first stop on a Friday shit show with Georgie boy. NYU grads/undergrads like to hang out here. I made conversation with a few Anthropologists and kept making Ross from Friends jokes. Ross is actually a paleontologist. Awkward. $ 3.50 beers, $ 1 tacos, and the tacos really ain’t bad, honest! Decent place but not a destination for anyone at the end of the night. Good place to kick things off though, no doubt. Just not enough of a crowd for my taste.

Sighhh. To be honest, i miss Caliente. I was pretty disappointed that it got replaced by M&G. The place almost looks the same but the vibe is different. It has a slightly more upscale feel. There are no real drink specials here. What i like is that their TVs are better than the ones at Josie Woods. I haven’t tried the food here but I do remember enjoying it when it was Caliente, so I’m assuming it should be the same if not better. I do like the layout of the place. Bar is in the middle and somewhat elevated, the restaurant tables are on the lower level and surround the bar. Out of the 3 — M&G, Apple, and Josie Woods… i guess my fave is M&G but it’s marginally ahead of the other two. If they improved their drink specials then i’d def be a bigger fan.

Is it the greatest option in an area full of bars and Mexican places? No, but I think they are a decent for dropping in for a few pints when coming/going elsewhere nearby. Perfect for a bar crawling group. The bartenders are great, and pick up on simple things like you wanting to watch your baseball game on a TV closer to the group you’re hanging out with. It’s not my first stop, but I seem to keep stopping here when in the area.

Man, I love this place. How could you NOT? Happy Hour from 4−8pm Monday thru Friday. Is that not enough? Great cocktails. Hmm. Still not enough? $ 3.50 select drafts? You don’t say… $ 1 tacos. Delish, albeit spicy. No? Free chips and salsa at the bar. No??? Wait… they sell food here?

When Murphy & Gonzalez replaced Caliente, I had no idea what to think. I spent MUCHO time in this space as a college student(Frozen Margaritas in between classes sounded good to me back then. Now, nauseating!). But honestly, I can’t really tell the difference between the 2 restaurants. If anything, M&G takes the food quality up a notch but the bar service remains super friendly and drinks are good and strong. Happy hour is from 4 to 8… not late enough in my opinion but still a good place to grab a drink w/dinner and watch a game. They DO show all sports games, which is pretty cool. What I WISH was that they had a better selection of MEXICAN food. Make no mistake, this is an Amerian restaurant that serves some Mexican stuff… sure, you can get fajitas, but you can also get fish & chips, burgers, or *gasp from my Mexican friends* corned beef and cabbage! The sign may say cocina but the menu says diner.

For those that live/work/attend NYU you know that there are alot of choices around for lunchtime. But in the sea of choice there are few that stand above the others. For me that is Murphy and Gonzalez ‘Pub and Cocina’. Now I give this four stars because they offer $ 10 lunch specials with the complete works and a free 16ounce soda on the side. And they aren’t kidding! I’ve had the chimichanga with the yellow rice and black beans. It was out of this world! The chimichanga was sooo big when it came out I knew that I was going to save it for the next day. Then the next time I came in I got their fried fish sandwich. The fish was so fresh, and the seasoned the stick-thin fries with paprika-which was a total delectable suprise. Then I even tried their chicken caprese salad which had seasoned grilled chicken and mozerlla with tomato on top of a salad bed. All for $ 10 you say! Yes! It is true you can get a full, good lunch in the city. All for 10. Plus I love that they have a full bar and beer on the menu. The place is half restaurant half sports bar and features all the games. So you know I’ve been watching here as the world cup as proceeded. All in all a great place to come to.
