Nice local haunt full of local theater people(at least the night we were there). Very gay friendly. Really like that salad is served as precursor to entrée and included in the price. LOVED the onion tart special. Like eating a bowl of buttered sautéed onions, naturally sweet. Fresh, chewy, real bakers bread. Rosti also included with entrée served table side. Delicious hearty veal cordon bleu and perfect chicken Marsala. Wonderful service. A bit fast but we’re not lingerers. Dessert needed its own paragraph. Go for the Swiss apple tart. A huge pile of shredded tart apples with vanilla ice cream, caramel, and whipped cream. Delicious. We’ll be back!

Chose this cute little Swiss/Austrian restaurant in the theatre district mainly because it’s one of the few restaurants in NYC with raclette on the menu. We were excited about the prospect of hot, oozing Swiss cheese poured over vegetables, potatoes, bread, etc, and about the relatively inexpensive martinis. We made a reservation and were seated right away. Service throughout the meal was prompt and friendly; the atmosphere was romantic, if a bit dated and old fashioned. A number of neighborhood regulars lined the bar, many who would look just as comfortable in an Alpine château. As stated in earlier reviews, it seems like the bartender and owner are very friendly and have cultivated a home away from home for Swiss and Austrian expats. She ordered a Pomegranate martini; I order a Sapphire martini with olives. The Pomegranate flavoring was clearly pre-made, from a mix or bottle. Perhaps this is why they are not that expensive($ 10). Other reviewers below made similar comments about the drinks; they seem to skimp on the mixers, but not on the booze. My olives were of the tiny, sat in a jar too long variety. We ordered the raclette for two. Meals come with bread(warm but a bit hard) and a house salad(similar to what you’d get at a inexpensive chain restaurant). The raclette was an experience in itself. They bring out a long, two-tiered nonstick griddle for the table, with little spatula type trays to cook the cheese in, as well as ham and a plate of vegetables. We thought it was weird that the veggies they offered were tomatoes, onions, cauliflower and carrots; no green at all. It also came with shakers of cumin, paprika and red pepper flakes. It was fun to make all sorts of combinations and watch the cheese bubble and brown on the griddle; the onions made perfect sense after we put a few in the cheese and caramelized them with some spices. The cheese wasn’t anything special, but there was plenty of it. The waiter was very attentive and explained how to use everything. Like fondue, this raclette experience can allow you to be creative and interactive and play around a bit with different flavor combinations. That said, we decided to eat dessert at Print, located just around the corner(amazing desserts there). Overall, the raclette experience at Mount Blanc was fun, and the service was very good, but there was nothing particularly special about the quality of the ingredients or the flavor of the food. As raclette seems to be getting more popular(there is even a Raclette NYC restaurant downtown), Mount Blanc would do well to invest in higher quality and more diverse ingredients to add to this dish. Would probably give them an extra half-star for the attentive service.

This place is a hidden jewel on west 48 street. I hesitate writing about it as I would like to keep it still able to get in. The food is old world sublime, as is the owner Maria. I eat here 4 nights a week veal cordon bleu, weinerschnitzel and all their food is excellant. Calves liver with sautéed onions and bacon(something you cannot find in most restaurants) is very good. Never had anything but wonderful meals here!

Feels like an old school Italian family restaurant. Service was efficient and friendly. Recommend the meat and seafood fondue, they were the favorites of our group.

Ugh I can go on and on about how great this fondue place is. Family owned and run, we loved the intimate, romantic atmosphere of the restaurant. We went as a valentine’s day lunch, and it felt so nice cause of the candlelit table. We ordered the beef fondue; it comes with a salad and potato pancakes. The beef is a perfect amount for two, and it comes with 4 dipping sauces(garlicy one, hollandaise, a sweet mayo, and a A1 steak sauce). The complimentary bread that started us off was so warm and crisp! For dessert, the chocolate fondue was GREAT. Way better than expected. The milk chocolate tasted richer/better than Max Brenner’s. The marshmallows, pound cake, and strawberries were my favorites. Tristan devoured the bananas, haha. Can’t go wrong with a fancy place like this for a great date night.

Love Mont Blanc! The food, the drinks, the service, the owner… all are first rate! Oh, and the old school charm that this place has… so unexpected and awesome! You don’t find that too often in NYC these days! Plus, this place is pretty much in the theatre district but seems to mostly attract locals. The locals know what’s up. This place is great! Mont Blanc’s serves a mix of European cuisine, which you’ll quickly see as you glance at their menu. I noticed mostly food from Switzerland, France, Italy, and Germany, but they may have others as well. From all the vast menu, we tried Swiss(we got the raclette AND cheese fondue), German(we tried sausages AND veal schnitzel), and French(escargot). My dinner party ordered everything family style and just shared it all… a great approach for this place because you can try a little of all of their cuisines! The first items delivered to our table were the raclette, the cheese fondue, and escargot. Raclette was new to me, so I was excited to bake cheese in a little oven right at the table! And, they serve theirs up with an array of accoutrements including baby new potatoes, deli meats, and veggies. YUM! You just gotta try it! The cheese fondue was equally as tasty and featured just a hint of wine melted in the cheese sauce, which really brought out the flavor! The remaining items followed, and they were just as yummy! The sausages… the schnitzel… the potato hash… all were well above average, and I’d order them again. I could go on and on about this place… seriously. I liked it that much. But, try it for yourself. you’ll quickly understand where my passion comes from. FYI: I will be visiting Mont Blanc again soon!

Please note this is not a review of their food, read on and you will see why… The hubby and I had tickets to a broadway show and were looking for a restaurant that took reservations and was near the theatre. Mont Blanc fit that bill perfectly(so we thought…). We arrived for our 6:30 reservation thinking we had just enough time to enjoy our meal and then go around the corner to the theatre. If they would have seated us when we arrived that would be the case… The hostess said we would have to wait a few minutes for our table. I said, ok but we have a show to catch at 8 sharp. She said no problem and gave us a menu. She then seated another couple(who I suspect didn’t have a reservation but arrived just before us). By this point the hubby and I are ruling out appetizers and just going to order entrees. After 10 minutes, I told the hostess that we needed to be seated in the next 5 minutes. She nodded and said would you like to place your order with me now? I said no, because that would for 1 make for a terrible dining experience and 2 if you make us wait much longer we will definitely be late for the show and would have lost the option to leave because we placed our food order. Another couple came in(who I suspect did have a reservation) and was told that there was a 30 minute wait. WHAT!!! After hearing that, we left. Word of warning, don’t come to this restaurant if you have theatre tickets(even with a reservation) or if you want to be seated on time.

Mont Blanc is a cute little restaurant tucked away on 48th and 8th in the theater district that sells itself on «European cuisine». Now what is European cuisine? Pretty vague, but Mont Blanc does a mean fondue with so many choices and traditional European style. FOOD: The appetizers from escargot to clams, but my favorite were definitely the clams. With the fondue, I am now a huge fan of the reclette! What a fun experience to do fondue like that and the cheese quality here is pretty good. The meats that came along were tasty and overall was a pretty fun experience. SERVICE: A little slow as some would say, but I think it was just a slower paced kind of restaurant. Overall, Mont Blanc has a fun atmosphere if you want to do some fondue style on a date or a small party of people. With an intimate interior and gooey delicious cheese, this place is definitely great!

We had a reservation for 5 people tonight at 7pm for my friend’s birthday. They made us wait at the bar for at least 15 minutes because our table wasn’t ready. I ordered wiener schnitzel and it was so salty that I could barely eat it. I ended up eating up sharing my friend’s cheese fondue(which was delicious). When the waitress came to take my plate away she asked if I wanted to take it home, to which i replied that it was very salty. She could not have cared less. I would not go back here-there are much better restaurants in the theater district.

Mont Blanc is one of those restaurants that knows they’re a little old-school and backwards, and revels in it. You’ve got the waitstaff that have been there for years and the wine list that isn’t quite so impressive, sure you could say that a more modern attempt at raclette would be better but there’s something quintessentially New York about this place. We had the raclette for two and the setup for melting the cheese was put together at our table after a ho-hum salad starter. On the platter were cured meats, cheeses to melt, and of course lots and lots of good French bread. We had a great time with it, though we would have loved the traditional preparation with the huge half-moon of cheese and the big melting apparatus even more. While I’m not sure I’ll be back *often*, Mont Blanc holds a charm that suggests I’ll be back sooner than I think. :)

Un bon restau pour se faire une raclette en plein hiver! Je suis moins fan de leur fondue mais la réservation était facile et la raclette excellente. Un peu léger en charcuterie mais au final avec vin et dessert, $ 60/personne ça allait.

Great hearty food go-to. Bunch of expats from Switzerland and other European countries hang here so that’s a good sign right? Foundue — highly recommended by my fellow diners. There is the meat or seafood one which cooks in oil, no cheese, which was equally loved as much as the swiss cheeae melty one which comes w bread. The chocolate fondue for dessert is yummy and came w a ton of fruit, pound cake and marshmallows. Omg. I am not a dairy eater and i wanted something cooked, to devour it quicker so i opted for the beef goulash from the oktoberfest menu which they are still now serving in November. It was tender and yummy and came w egg noodles. The dishes are a bit pricey but filling for what portion you receive. Byob wine with corkage fee. Can accommodate a bigger group like 10ish w reservation.

Location, service and a welcoming atmosphere are what Mont Blanc has to offer. The food is OK but not special. But it’s in the theatre district and the service is geared to making sure diners aren’t late for whichever show they are attending. My paté was tasty, what there was of it, but at $ 9.50, there wasn’t much. They show the veal dumpling in mushroom sauce as a specialty of the house. It was quite good but the mushroom sauce was more like tasteless pasty goo with canned mushrooms. Once I cleared the sauce away it was fine. The crowd was intriguing ranging from regulars at the bar to frequent diners to theatergoers like us and ranged in age from mid 20’s to dotage. Overall, it’s a restaurant to visit if you’re seeing a show nearby, but otherwise you might want to look elsewhere.

We went on a Saturday night and got there just after our reservation time and Sat immediately. The place feels like a small family run restaurant in Europe. The tables are close together, so if you are looking for a quiet intimate candle-lit dinner, this isn’t the place. The service was fantastic, they kept our water glasses constantly filled(a pet-peeve of mine) throughout the meal, but they never became intrusive. We wanted to have the cheese fondu as an app and gave us no push-back when we wanted to wait to order dinner until after we finished the fondu. Speaking of food, all of the food was fantastic. I had never had fondu before and it seemed to be a bit strong on the wine. We weren’t sure if that’s how it is suppose to be, but ultimately that didn’t affect how good it was. Our entrees were both fantastic, and the portions were good sized — we left extremely full! The bill at the end of the night was very reasonable for a bottle of wine, fondu and 2 entrees. I would high recommend this place to anyone and plan on bringing out of town guests.

This review is just for the drinks, not the food. Came here with a friend after seeing the happy hour listed. $ 6 martinis, well drinks, sangria, $ 5 beer… it sounded like a decent deal so we stopped in. Bar tender was quick and efficient. He didn’t talk to us too much because we were having our own conversation but it looked like he knew most of the«regulars.» Seemed nice and had a sense of humor. Peach martini: Pretty sure it was made from canned peaches(not positive). At first, we were not a fan as it tasted like something from a school lunch with alcohol added. However as the drink settled and the peach mixed with the vodka, it definitely got better. Pretty strong especially considering the price. Not an amazing drink but not complaining. Sangria: Again, nothing mind blowing but it was okay. Just tasted like a standard sangria made from some not so good red wine. Not a lot of other liquors added like some sangria. Also, I think the fruit selection could be improved. It seems like the prices are low because the components for the martinis are already made(fruit and syrup and whatever in a tub). Bar tender does mix drinks when you order though. I would maybe come back if in the neighborhood, though I wasn’t really digging the atmosphere.
