In the world of Manhattan lounges, SNOB is layover country. You stop by if you happen to be in the area and want a quick pre-gaming drink, but you definitely don’t close the night here. Grab a La Buena, enjoy it, then move on to your epic spot.

I came here on Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend. We knew of the pre-fixe menu before we made reservations so we generally knew what to expect. I was really satisfied with my meal. I had the lentil dish as an appetizer, the stuffed cabbage as the entrée, and the flan for dessert. It was overall tasty. The drinks we ordered weren’t strong through. The view was also quite nice!

I was invited here for a private party so my take on it will be different. If you have the $$$$ to rent this space out for the night, it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser. 2 levels. Downstairs lounge + kitchen, upstairs lounge + dj booth. Amazing views from both levels. The nibbles coming out of the kitchen were tasty but fairly basic. Bartender made outstanding caipirinhas and bar staff was very friendly. Killer dj. Had a fab night and a fab hangover to match the next morning!!! 1 drink, 1 water next time…

With a good location, great views and a trendy atmosphere, SNOB has all the necessary components to be a hit. However, they really need to rethink their policies, especially how they go about carrying out said policies. I came here with a group to celebrate a birthday, with the intention of surprising the birthday girl with a cake at the end. When we first approached SNOB’s staff about our plans, they were very accommodating, allowing us to use their fridge and told us they could provide the needed serving tools. On top of that, our group received complimentary champagne(which was very good, I’ll admit), and everything was fine and dandy. Then when it came time to actually serve the cake, they wanted to charge us $ 5/head per their policy, the one thing they conveniently left out in the beginning. Now $ 5 per person isn’t a lot by any means, but when you factor in that we’re basically paying $ 75+ collectively to be served cake(OUR cake, mind you), it’s a bit ridiculous… Anyways, we ended up saving the cake for later, and they brought out a complimentary dessert. While much appreciated, this whole thing could have been prevented had they told us from the very beginning. I ended up having to leave early, but apparently there was also some bill-splitting controversy. For an establishment like SNOB, you’d really think they would be more put together. And until that is the case, you won’t be seeing me here anymore.

This Fashionplate is at the perfect ski chalet, winter inspired restaurant called Snob located in the Hotel Americano rooftop. On a particularly cold NY night a friend and me cabbed it the short distance to this West Chelsea spot. We were promptly seated in spacious booth with a fabulous view of the NYC skyline. We ordered a Malbec and the fondue to start with. The wine was great and the fondue was delicious, only thing it wasn’t a large enough portion with all the bread they gave us so we proceeded to then order more wine and the Oaxaca crêpe that was filled with mushrooms, cheese and chorizo and was pretty tasty. We enjoyed a nice leisurely catch up dinner on a rare night where the city wasn’t crowded. There was a DJ spinning a fun mix of music and the patrons varied from hotel guests to galleriastas. I decided to winterize our Donna ribbon trim tank for this Fashionplate by pairing with leather and plaid.

I appreciate when businesses are upfront about their costs and set expectations when necessary. Unfortunately, SNOB is not one of those businesses, hence the 1 star review. We arrived with a cake in hand for our friend’s birthday and were told that they could provide forks and plates for us later on in the night. Awesome, we thought, that is so nice of them. Then, they bring out complimentary champagne for us and the birthday girl. Fantastic, we thought, what a nice gesture. Once everyone had arrived, we went to the kitchen to retrieve the cake, and that was when everything went downhill. We were told that they were going to charge us $ 5/head to cut and serve the cake, and that we could not just prep the cake ourselves. I told them that this wasn’t mentioned when we had asked about the plates and forks at the bar and at our hesitation to pay, the price arbitrarily went from $ 5/head to just $ 30 flat for the cake cutting fee. Hmm. What did you expect? For me to thank you for that huge favor? Anyway, after consulting with my friends we decided NOT to cut the cake there. They offered to send a complimentary dessert for the birthday girl instead, so I said fine, as long as you are not charging us extra for that. The dessert was beautifully presented, and it tasted great. The birthday girl was really excited, so that was all that really mattered. I didn’t mind saving the cake for home. Okay, I thought, maybe SNOB wasn’t that bad. Maybe I would come back a second time. Then, our bill arrived. Not only did they proceed to double charge us for drinks that had already been paid for by members of the party who had left earlier, they were super unhelpful in figuring out what actually had been included in the bill. I understand that SNOB is a relatively new bar, so it is expected that there might be some kinks in the system and some less experienced employees to deal with, but for the caliber of clientele that SNOB seems to be aspiring for, this was all very, very unacceptable. We went through multiple rounds of negotiations with them until finally we just scrounged up the extra cash so that we could leave. Unfortunately, a hefty tip had already been included in the bill, so I had no way to appropriately express my disgust in their business. Well, here is a 1 star review for you, SNOB.

Pros: Staff was really nice and helpful. Décor, space and view were spectacular. Cons: The food. It’s a restaurant, so that is sorta kinda important. Maybe it’s my ‘simplistic taste buds’. IDK. But unlike the other reviewer that waxed poetically about the french mountains etc, my taste buds don’t give a sht, it want’s satisfaction. Plain and Simple.
