Great authentic Indian food, I have taken my family here a few times and they’re always very courteous and nice. They have great lunch and dinner specials and the delivery guys are always nice and quick, I found it much better to order on their website they have all the options there.

I ordered my food from here using the Seamless app(food delivery app) in NYC. After waiting 3 whole hours I didnt get any notification that my food was on its way. So i called the restaurant multiple times and no one responded. I then went on Unilocal and found out that there are two restaurants with the name of «Maharaja Palace». I then called the other Maharaja Palace on Frederick Douglass Blvd, and the guy stated that this location(on Amsterdam Ave) gets mixed up all the time with his restaurant and that many people have called him complaining of the late service when in reality they are ordering from the location on Amsterdam Ave. Long story short, the lady from GrubHub(whom I presume owns Seamless) called me to apologize and inform me that the driver got into a car accident. I really dont think she was telling the truth, as no one in the restaurant would even pick up the phone. There is something fishy about ordering from this location on Amsterdam Ave. At this point idk if the physical restaurant exists or if they have a phone number.

We placed an order with them at 8:10 tonight, and finally called at 9:30 when it still hadn’t arrived. The man on the phone said the delivery man was new and had gotten lost(in Manhattan?) but that he was definitely coming. Okay, not a problem. We called again at 10:15 and the man apologized once again and once again assured me he was coming. The words«I 100% guarantee that your food is coming, don’t worry» were said. After waiting more than 2.5 hours and three phone calls assuring us that the order was on its way, we finally got an email from saying they are unable to fulfill the order. Why insist up and down and assure us that dinner is on the way and then not follow through? They showed no respect to us as customers. Never again. Save your time and money.

I would have given this place 4 or 5 stars for food, and 1 or 2 stars for service. However, here is what happened: On September 30, 2015, I purchased an Amazon Local voucher for dinner at Maharaja Palace at 931 Amsterdam Ave., NYNY10025. The expiration date on the Voucher is March 28, 2016. When I tried to use it last night(March 2, 2016), for dinner, at that location, it was refused. The manager/host/owner told me that the voucher was for«the other location.» I showed him the address on the voucher, which was clearly the correct location and caught him in a bald-faced lie. He then told me that«we are under new management,» and the«new management» was not honoring the voucher. This is just wrong; even if there really is «new management,» he should have honored the voucher. I would have left, but it was cold out and my friend, who had traveled some distance, wanted to stay. As a result, we scaled down our order to the bare minimum. This is no way to run a business: Don’t put prospective repeat customers in such a bad mood that they will never return. The sad thing is that the food was absolutely delicious, and the prices are reasonable. I would have loved to write a positive review, but, to be honest, these people don’t deserve to be in business. The service was beyond lousy, and the room quite unattractive. With four people total in the restaurant, there was no excuse. Then, to add insult to injury, in the middle of our meal, at least 6 police officers came barreling in: It seems that the restaurant’s delivery man had been robbed while out on a delivery. The manager/host/owner called 911 and then, when the police arrived, he didn’t want to let the delivery man go with them to make a statement or to look at mug books. He wanted to send the poor guy back out on deliveries! Understandably, the police were furious. As they left, they told him not to call 911 if he is not going to cooperate with a police investigation. I love Indian food, and would come here often, but for the treatment I received last night. I would order food delivery but for the two-hour wait noted in other Unilocal reviews. Even if you have a great product, you cannot and should not succeed if you have no common sense, can’t deliver, and don’t know how to treat customers with respect.

Best Indian restaurant I have ever been to. I really like Indian food and this place has every dish, typical and special, as its best. The samosas are incredibly tasty and they are huge! The puff pastry reminded me of the fried Argentinian Empanadas I had in my childhood. Then the other appetizer that you must order is the potato cakes over the chickpeas with chutney and yogurt. We had an incredible meal so far and I have to add that the service was amazing throughout the whole seating. Even the homemade sauces and lentil crunchy bread for the table is a great hunger killer. Now the entrees that were the BEST we had. The best okra I had and the best cauliflower I had and I’m not exaggerating. The preparation feels like they’ve been cooking it for decades and serve you the dish at its best time. Paired with the classic aromatic Basmati rice it’s an explosion of flavors in your mouth. I would order the same dishes every time for the rest of my life. Incredible food! You can tell it has a lot of history and love in it. The owner is a very sweet guy and he served us with so much joy. The lunch special is a steal! $ 7.95 for a vegetable entrée with rice and naan bread. This is going to be my go to Indian restaurant from now on.

Ordered takeout last night. Food was delicious. We used to order takeout on Seamless more frequently when they had a branch near 95th& Madison. Unfortunately that location is closed. Their quality has remained consistent over the years — which is not what I can say abt out other Indian places in the neighborhood. They really oughtta make the Tawa Paneer into an entrée :)

I’ve ordered takeout from Maharaja on various occasions and it’s always consistently flavorful and delicious, with generous portions. Palak paneer is my favorite, paired with garlic naan. You’re my go-to Indian delivery!

I should state at the outset, I don’t eat in person here. The restaurant is a bit dour. But the food is extraordinary! I order often from here. The flavors are a bit more intense yet subtle, and better rounded than most other Indian joints I’ve tried in New York.(My former favorite was the late lamented Chenai Garden on E. 27th.) Ive also ordered from their Harlem location, but this Manhattam Valley location is better. Delivery has always been prompt in my experience. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

I want to like this place more than I actually do, as they’re convenient and fairly reasonably priced. But, here we are. Note: I ordered the potato samosas and aloo gobi for take-away. Pros: –Fast service –They didn’t get my order wrong –The service was polite, both when calling to say my order is ready as well as when I arrived to pick it up. Cons: –Food is waaay oily, far more than I’m used to or would want. It really devolved the experience. –The portions are not so large –I requested medium spicy, and I can handle spice fairly well but they made this really, really spicy. I mixed it with rice and that made it sort of edible, but it was a lot. Just FYI. –The restaurant, although I only went in to pick up my food, did not strike me as especially clean. Sorry! I wish it was better!

WOW! Same review as everyone else(wish i had checked Unilocal before I bought the groupon). 1) the UES location is closed, and has been for a month or so. To this day, you can buy the groupon with the UES location listed 2) tried to do takeout on the UWS, they wouldn’t honor it. How can anyone support a business who can’t manage their business? Dude at Maharaja, call Groupon and tell them to stop selling your voucher if you don’t frickin honor it! And say good bye to business– I have a LOUD mouth and a deep reach!

Got takeout indian– arrived with no expectations and was very very very impressed! Got chicken pakora for appetizer, chili chicken and chicken tikka masala for entrees, and veggie biryani. First of all, one of the few indian places in UWS that has generous portions for takeout dishes. Other Indian places give very small portions for takeout but at Maharaja, each dish was enough food for at least 3 servings! The spices are fresh and each dish is clearly made from scratch. I can’t wait to return to try more from their menu!

Tried this place with a Groupon. The place was completely empty on a Thursday afternoon. I called in advance to place my take out order, at first the gentlemen said I had to dine in? But I explained my Groupon is for take out, and it wasn’t possible to dine in, after insisting he allowed me to place my take out order. I think they’re desperate to fill the empty seats. For $ 49 minus the $ 40 Groupon, I ordered 3 dishes, each was about $ 15 and an ok portion, except the fish curry which was mostly curry. Anyways, I ordered the Maharaja biryani, a lamb dish, and a salmon fish curry. I enjoyed the biryani, the rice was very flavorful, but the chicken and meat pieces were over cooked. The lamb curry and salmon were also overdone. The meat and the fish weren’t soft and tender. The salmon curry I didn’t enjoy at all, the curry or sauce was watery with spices that didn’t seem to mesh well. The over cooked meat wasn’t too much of a turn off, I would like to go back and try the fresh naans on their menu, but I won’t be ordering these items again, well maybe the biryani. Bön appetite!

The food was pretty good, but not incredible. Also the portions were a bit small. I was expecting a lot more food. Their tables are also really small. However, the manager was very very nice. I loved all of the service there. Their Lamb Vindaloo was on point though. Also, try to see if they have a groupon up if you go! They usually have one.

Great place. The regular size restaurant. Not that big not that small but very delicious food. I love Indian food. I moved to the city from queens and couldn’t find a good spot to eat Indian cuisine but maharaja is very delicious and traditional. Smoothie(mango and milk) was very delicious, peas(appetizer) was very delicious and lamb was very yammmiieee!!! Highly recommended. Also, people are very friendly!!!

I don’t understand people’s rating for 1 star. THEFOODISAMAZING!!! I was reading the other reviews and the only reason for 1 star is because of the long delivery wait time. As I’m sitting here waiting for my food all you hear is «new seamless order.» Not so many people dining in but the online orders keep piling up. The food took a little bit longer but my waiter was very nice. And the reason I think orders took long is because the food is FRESHLY made! The garlic naan was just freshly cooked. And the chicken tikka masala was probably the best chicken tikka masala I ever had. For the people that complain about long wait time. Come and dine in. They are very friendly and the food is worth it. Definitely coming back! :)

You’ll never have a product or price advantage again. They can be easily duplicated, but a strong customer service culture can’t be copied. ~ Jerry Fritz You folks clearly could stand to learn a few lessons in this arena. This review is based on the service and not the food which is actually tasty. So look folks I get it, groupon is the devil for some restaurants, but you made this deal with the devil, not the potential customers who found you through it. First of all the groupon said it was for take out and you tell us «no, you must dine in!» Really genius? Right there on the groupon are the words Take-OUT. You know out, being the opposite of in… Tsk, tsk. It’s a lot easier to pull the wool over the eyes of someone who can’t read. Seeing as how I can read, well… you’re going to have to try harder. So after I politely ask to speak to the manager, Sir Rude-A-Lot gets on the phone and blurts out«we’re not honoring that groupon anymore, call groupon to get your money back» and hangs up. Let me break this down for you. YOU.ARE.A.CUSTOMER.SERVICE.FAIL! Plain and simple. This isn’t hyperbole or rhetoric, this is fact. We were polite and only asking that what we paid for be honored. So the next time you make a deal with Beelzebub, don’t take it out on your customers. It’s no wonder the other locations have more stars. Get your act together. I for one could not care less if you made food as good as they served in the actual Maharaja Palace(real original name btw) I won’t spend a dime, glance or belch in the direction of your establishment again.

Food wasn’t bad but definitely not worth 2 hour wait. They offered my boyfriend a percentage off, but we are arguing for full cost of meal. Delivery guy told us they gave him the wrong address. Either way doesn’t account for 2 hour late. If the restaurant doesn’t refund ideally seamless will. With so many other wonderful indian restaurants on UWS, we definitely will never order from here again!
