This is the funnest place ever! The staff is awesome! It was great as Top Tunes, but it’s the tops as Rock & Rose. I feel like The Sex Pistols renovated this spot, haha, and it’s beautiful(and roomier, yay!) This is the place to hit up if you want to karaōke it up in The City

FYI – this place is under new management and is now called Rock & Rose. Spread the word! This place was super fun. The crowd is really friendly and cool, and the drinks are good and reasonably priced. The song selection is pretty big, and they have more than enough song books to go around. If you don’t see your song in the book, just ask. The guy can sometimes find them for you. I was most impressed by the people who worked here. They were really friendly and helpful – just some cool folks taking over a karaōke bar. I will definitely be back!

Ok, what I’m mainly rating here is their absolute breadth of song choice. If u are a karaōke fiend, this is my number one spot for finding the songs u wanna find. Seriously. They even have a book for Spanish Italian and other language song books. It’s in mid-town, so a bit out of the way for me, but still, I would come back here with SERIOUS singers, who hate to not find the song they wanna find, b/c they have it here(or no one else does).

My first impression of this place is a great atmosphere, with patrons singing and having a good time. Their private rooms are a good size and are very accommodating. The lasting impression is a very disorganized bar, with drink and food order that takes ten to fifteen minutes just to place the order. Also, heaven forbid you need service and your in one of the private room. Customer service is poor, very poor.

Wireless mics at bar and hilarious videos from the 90’s with what must be moonlighting porn stars acting in them. Good selection. Easy to get a few songs in. Drinks are overpriced but it is midtown. You get one free song per drink. Otherwise its 2 bucks. They have private rooms, tho i never used one.

This place is awesome. The bartenders are super-friendly and the crowd is all about having a good ass time without being obnoxious. In addition to the gold-tinseled stage where public karaōke goes down, there are private rooms and all the people in there look like they’re having FUN. If you choose the right song, you’ll bring the house DOWN. Do it.

Pros: Big Rooms Good Drinks Cons: Everything else… No room service, and with the bar swamped someone was missing for 10 minutes at a time always trying to get drinks. Rooms aren’t soundproofed so as the outside got more crowded our room eventually became unusable Charged us a higher rate than advertised and tacked a 20% gratuity on for… what? Other than showing us how to choose songs the guy did nothing. Much better places available in K-Town.

It’s story time, everyone gather around: If I had a cupcake shop, and I had a sign out front that said, Mondays Free cupcakes! Then you came inside to get your free cupcakes and I said, oh the free cupcakes is only for people who buy 2 large coffees, that would make me, and my sign, A LIAR! Such is this«karaōke joint». I came in here on Monday, to do some late night Karaōke(by late I mean like 1130pm), because the sign outside said free songs on Monday(as opposed to their $ 2 a song, which really is still a ripoff). We sit down, ready to sing a song and the bartender asks us if we want something to drink, we were both NOT sober by this point so I said no, because really it would have been overkill to have another drink. The bartender leaves, we look through the book, only to have him return and say, oh it’s last call, we’re about to close(at not even midnight?!) and you can’t sing a song without buying a drink first. YOUKIDDINGME?! Now let’s do some math here: a beer here is like $ 5, so if I decided to get one, I would get to sing the one song I wanted to do, which is funny because if I came in on a non-free song night I would pay $ 2 to sing, which is CHEAPERTHAN $ 5!!! I hate this place. Especially when you consider the fact that Cornerstone Tavern, a couple blocks away, has free Karaōke 5 days a week. The only reason I was even in this place is Cornerstone doesn’t do Karaōke on Monday or Tuesday. Well it would appear this place, doesn’t do karaōke EVER!

Came here for a get together with my girls on lady’s night. $ 4 wells(pretty damn strong) plus 1 free song on lady’s night. Otherwise songs are $ 2 each. Mostly an older crowd(as in 30−40+). Open bar karaōke + private rooms. Blah food selection. 4 star for host Lee. :)

I’ll give them a 2.5. This would be higher if each time I went there wasn’t some kind of bartender payola going on to get your song played. I mean you have to pay to get your song played as it is, but having to fork over extra when you’re already paying for songs & drinks is annoying and I’m not doing it. I’ve been here a few times and my friends had fun. As the night went on & more people came in, it turned into having to watch people sing sappy slow broken love songs which got annoying, while waiting forever for our group’s songs. If I have to go here again it’s not the end of the world, but I’d rather not.

2.75 Stars? I don’t do kareoke often, but when I do I prefer getting a room with my friends(bow chicka bow bow!). So this is what we did for a birthday party this weekend. And while I can’t say that I’m a kareoke room connoisseur, I can say that this room wasn’t anything special. I found it weird, though, that when we arrived we were ushered out of the bar and up the stairs in a different building to get to our space. The room was $ 8 per hour plus a one drink minimum per person. While that’s more than I’ve ever paid for kareoke before, it’s not completely(not completely) ridiculous on an individual level($ 24 for three hours plus $ 7 drink plus tax and tip). However, when you have at max 15 people in the room, I think the owners are making a good profit. We opted for bottle service as it would count as everyone’s one-drink minimum and it wound up being cheaper. After that though, the waiter disappeared and members of the party had to approach the bar to get more drinks. On the minus side, the song selection was very small. We had an assortment of books but it turned out that only a few of them were actually for that room. We ended up having way less songs than we had anticipated which was disappointing. On the plus side, the room was cleaner than other places I’ve been to and there wasn’t any duct tape on the seats. There was also just the right amount of room for 10 plus people to do the slowest Locomotion in history.

Came here for Part Two of my boyfriend’s birthday drinking extravaganza. Maybe it’s because it was empty on a Wednesday night, or maybe it’s because I was tipsy. but I don’t remember having to pay the $ 2/song fee. That said, we were buying rounds of drinks and appetizers. Anyway, the common space is a little small, but there are plenty of private rooms. The staff there is so so so so so sweet. And the song selection is international! They have a songbook in Japanese, Chinese, Italian, and Spanish, INADDITION to every American song past and present you could ever think of. I’m also bumping this up ½ a star because they def busted out two bottles of tasty champagne on the house, in honor of my bf(and some other guy)‘s birthday! Top Tunes, I salute you! 4.5 Stars!

Karaōke is an art form. Consider this the Louvre of Karaōke. Only in New York. With no paintings. Or Tom Hanks with an awkward haircut. 1) Best karaōke song book selection I have EVERSEENINMYLIFE. No exaggeration — seriously. 2) Delicious little appetizers. 3) Cool, comfortable space. 4) Great, central post-work happy hour location. You’ll find that happy hour will turn into an all night excursion if you’re not careful. 5) The private rooms are great, and the staff is kind.

I went here based on the reviews, and I have to say, it’s a pretty great place. The only downer was that because it’s a bar, it’s only for 21 and over, even in the private rooms. We didn’t know that and had two people under 21, but the waiter(owner?) was nice and let us stay. He just wouldn’t let us bring alcohol into the rooms, which is pretty responsible of him. He asked that we go to the bar if we wanted to drink and brought us pitchers of coke instead of the one drink minimum per person. The place is clean and the private rooms are very spacious. I called a day ahead and reserved a small room and the person who took my reservation spoke English well and was polite and helpful. When we got there, we were shown to our room immediately. The website says a small room is big enough for 20 people, and I’d say that it’s not exaggerating. There were four big flat screens in the room, so everyone could see, and everything was clean and comfortable(especially the couch). The song selection is humongous. They have lists by artist and by title and one for newer songs(I guess the last year or so?). There’re English, Chinese, and Japanese songs, all separated into their own books so you don’t get mixed up. We wanted so many songs, but the database couldn’t fit them all(it fits somewhere from 15 – 20 on your wait list), so we had to patiently wait until we finished singing one to add another. There was a small problem with feedback from the microphones, but that only happened after we fiddled with the volume controls a little, so that’s probably our fault. Even if you don’t get a private room, the bar seemed to have a great atmosphere, though it doesn’t really get people ’til 9PM or later. I might not mind singing in front of strangers when it seems that fun(or if I have friends to sing backup, at least. =D). It’s convenient to get to by subway as well. It’s only one crosstown block away from the E/V line. Overall, fantastic place. I really loved it and would definitely go back.

I don’t know why paying $ 2 per song bothers me in a way that paying an $ 8 cover and getting free songs doesn’t. You’d think it works out to the same thing. But, eh. That complaint out of the way: the selection is phenomenal, it’s a good crowd, and the staff when we went on Saturday were very friendly.

What a blast?! Top Tunes Karaōke was just what my old college friend and new acquaintances needed to get loose, let go and get down. two bucks a tune and well drinks that cost no more than $ 5 set you up for for a well lubricated and quite enjoyable evening with karaōke with generous and talented bartenders. Get here early otherwise you’ll have to compete with America’s Next Top Talent for drinks, food and songs. Go ahead… sing your heart out.

I discovered Top Tunes while walking my dog and noticed the irresistible«50% off drinks and food» promotion that is running through the end of the month(Feb 2008). I made a mental note to come check it out before the promotional period ends. Lo and behold, my buddies and I were looking for a place to hangout on a recent Friday night and decided to check out the joint. Top Tunes is a karaōke bar that serves bite-sized food. The bar is inviting and TV screens fill the place. There is also a little stage at the end of the bar for the American Idol wanna-bees. At the time we went, there was an adjoining room/area that seemed more private but I wasn’t sure whether you need to book it in advance or you need to be some kind of important person. When you mix bite-size food, full bar, and karaōke, you know that the place will be fun and boisterous.
