Though I love its 35th street counterpart, I can’t say I share the same affection for this location. I’ve been here twice now– once in a large room that could accommodate about 15 people comfortably, and once in a small room. The temperature setting is not ideal. I sat in a tiny room with cold air blasting through the vents in the middle of winter. It was warmer to stand outside of the room than it was to sit within. I asked the ladies at the front to adjust the temperature, but they said they couldn’t because the thermostat controlled all the rooms. I lasted a few hours until my friend and I couldn’t take it anymore– even with our coats on. My hands were frozen and my bladder sent me to the loo with such urgency, that I questioned my kidney functions(more than usual). Again, I begged on my hands and knees for more wood to be added to the fire, and they upped it to over 73 degrees. That seemed to do the trick. Food scarcity around this location is also problematic. During a marathon session, one needs fuel 4 hours in. Unlike Duet 35, you wouldn’t find many options in the immediate area; it is more residential than anything. There were a few menus by the entrance, but it seemed to be pizza-centric. Being a little further away from a multitude of businesses and trains has one possible perk: it might be easier to get a room on a whim. The planner in me would still book a room in advance though.

Came with my co workers for a birthday around 1am without a reservation. A few of them are under 21 so u cant have any alcohol in the room but thats ok. For a saturday nite(sunday morning technically) its $ 8 a hour which really isnt too bad. Currently as of right now they have music up until august 2015 which isnt too bad. They have alot of different music genres. Just go on their website to see the song list. As for the drinks… weak. definitely gotta have a few to feel a buzz but at $ 6-$ 8 a drink i cant complain too much

Very fun — I come here annually for my friend’s birthday party. It’s about $ 8/pp and then tax and tip if you reserve 8pm and on. The drinks are not strong, and their snacks are a rip-off($ 4 for a bag of small chips) but overall, decent rates and rooms. I did not know that you could bring your own food — good to know! One staff person was a bit aggressive in clearing all the drinks from our tables; my drink had 1⁄3 of it left and he proceeded to take it away. The drink only was filled up 2⁄3 of the way to begin with, so literally, I was only halfway done with the drink. Other than that, I would come back with a big group of friends — it is very fun!

Came here with a group of 9 under a reservation for 10 – 12. I’m very glad that we were still allowed to use the room although one friend was not able to make it. We checked in 10 minutes late so the room was reserved 10 minutes later then we had thought it would be. There is a hallway leading away from the bar with separate rooms. If you have someone under 21, then you will literally need to drink at the bar in the store front… Away from your party. I guess the workers are just informing the law. Happy hour $ 2 bud lights before 8pm=score.

I came her with a group of 7 people. We had blast. Your aloud to bring in your own food, but they do not allow any type of drinks. You have to purchase drinks from the bar. The music choice was great, they had up to date songs to choose from. The price was very reasonable and I love the face that you can have your own personal room to be in.

This place is amazing; great song selection, comfortable rooms and very helpful staff. It can be a bit expensive but it’s worth every penny. The drinks are okay, not impressive, may wanna pre game somewhere else.

Cool place to get plastered and have fun but the prices are ridiculous and you easily rack up a pretty hefty bill

Had a Sweet 16 party here for my sister yesterday. Absolutely loved it. Great song choices, happy hour specials and cheap karaōke rooms. I will be back!

So, I usually go to Japas 38 when we go for karaōke. I came here yesterday for a birthday party and was surprised by how many rooms it had. There’s a room for every size party. It’s nice and clean inside. The rooms are also kept tidy by the staff. They have pretty good specials. We were there from 2 – 8 pm and paid only $ 14?! I also like the fact that you can pay individually. It makes splitting the check easier when you come in a big group. The only thing is alcohol isn’t included, but they had a happy hour special. Beer, cocktails, wine and soju were 50% off. They also had limited food selections(only snacks, edamame, shumai and takoyaki), but neighborhood restaurants will deliver food right to your room. You can also bring your own food in, but not your own drinks. I also like how their song books are organized. They have a ton of selections and recent updates as well.

Oh Karaōke Duet. How many jpop jam sessions have you helped me fulfill with all my friends? Too many to count! I absolutely love coming here. I must admit, it’s mainly due to their prices. It is so cheap to sing at a booth for about an hour, and I love it. Their Japanese section is huge and they always have the newest Jpop songs straight from the Oricon charts. Their service is great and they’re very accommodating. There’s nothing bad I can really say! This is my favorite location.

This place is Really great, Fun and Inexpensive. Came here for my friends 26th birthday we came at 630 so we orderd the room for 630 to 1030. Drinks are half price before 8pm so we orderd like 3 before they went up to original price. It was her birthday so we got a free bottle of wine for her as well. They have sooo much songs, new and old classic 4 hours is really not enough. They deliver the drinks and food straight to the room. And you also have a phone in the room to place the order as well. Food is allowed but no drinks at all allowed not even water. The bathroom is soo clean and nicee as well. Great place great price really a great place to go for some unexpected fun.

Singing is healthy for the soul. I am a fan of this place since it is way cheaper than other karaōke places. 4 stars for cheap rates and drinks, plentiful rooms, and decent service. This place has all the amenities for you to drink and sing to your hearts content. Warning…alcohol has been known to cause your friends to sing/scream louder!

There are not many good places you can karaōke outside of ktown. There are also not many places you can karaōke if you have a member under 21. Karaōke DUET is great if your goal is to karaōke for fun and you don’t want that crazy nightlife karaōke you find in ktown. It’s about $ 8 per person per hour. You get a cute room and they have ALL the songs. They have more karaōke availability, but you still have to make a reservation.

My team had so much fun! Great song selection, good drinks, and adequate snack options. The only two negatives 1) the A/C in our room was broken or something because it was hot as hades. They had to bring in a fan. 2) it sucks that you have to leave the room to order drinks. I will definitely have to come back when I visit NYC again.

I’ve been here a lot. I was always into karaōke but my boyfriend is a bit obsessed(putting it lightly) so I’ve been going a lot more. Good memories at this place so far: first date was here, drinks are pretty strong(then again, I’m a lightweight), good selection of songs, they check in on you to make sure you know how much time you have left and want to add, bathrooms are spotless, plus Happy Hour is the besssst. Go with a group of friends, you’ll have a great time.

I’ve been a patron of DUET Karaōke for nearly a decade, visiting the Herald Square location for many many years, for their marathon special, which is a fixed fee of what used to be $ 12 but is now $ 14, for 7 hours worth of singing. This newer location kicks it up a step further and includes an amazing happy hour on the weekend of 50% off their ENTIREMENUOFDRINKS during their marathon hours of 1PM to 8PM. I never used to sing with alcohol since I am Asian and karaōke is part of my blood, but now that I’m legally allowed to, I pretty much exclusively come to DUET48 for weekend karaōke because the prices can’t be beat. Their song selection is pretty robust too, with a lot of new songs in English and other languages(Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc). I rarely can’t find a song I’m looking for to sing. Although the library seems to be backlogged a couple of months. The rooms are clean, but sometimes the air circulation can get really poor depending on how many people you’re packing into the room. DUET’s food selections are also lacking but they allow you to order delivery directly to the room with no problem, and there are many options to choose from if you use Seamless or something. Last time I was there I was able to order banh mi from Num Pang, which got there in like 15 minutes. Wash that all down with a $ 2.50 beer! On the weekdays though, this place is pretty much on the same level as competing Japanese karaōke bars like Japas in terms of food, price and ambience. I like that these Japanese karaōke bars charge you per person per hour when you book a room, instead of like when the Chinese or Korean karaōke bars I’ve been to charge you for the entire room at an hourly rate and you divide it amongst how many people you bring(what if I just want to sing with 3 people because we’re all fanatical about singing???). I read reviews about service being curt but I’ve never really experienced such a thing. I don’t know what type of hand service you are expecting anyway when you have a private room and a bar that you’re supposed to walk up to yourself and order from… They’ve always been really cheerful and polite with me.

I was in town for a few days and when friends suggested this place, I thought I’d give it a try. I had a great time! Pros: — Extensive list of songs. Most recent list I spotted when I went last week was the«September 2014» list — Drinks are reasonably priced. $ 8 a pour for top-shelf liquors — $ 8/hr/pp on Friday nights — Each room had their own A/C unit, which helps A LOT Cons: — Kinda wish they had some songs from the last 6 months… really wanted to sing an Ingrid Michaelson song but it wasn’t on the list, along with a few others Tips: — This place gets busy late at night. We had a 2 hour reservation which we ended up adding another 30 min to. We wanted to sing more but was told there was another party after us so we had to leave. We went to another karaōke place and sang for another 2 hours. So… if in doubt, book a longer block of time! — Bring your ID! — They have a Top 100 Requested Songs list which came in really handy!

I really enjoy all the Duet karaōke bars. But I have a particular affinity for this location since it’s one of the first one’s we’ve been to in the city. The bouncer outside is really nice. The place is huge and clean. One of their largest rooms is a long rectangular room, with plenty of seating for over 25 or so people, and features two TV’s. They also always add new and current music to their systems. We always used to come here before DUET35, but the one downside to DUET48 is that it’s located in a more residential neighborhood. There are barely any bars around in the area. It’ll run you about $ 8 per person per hour(plus tax & tip) on weekend nights. They also have plenty of options for drinks. They don’t serve food here but you can bring food from outside, if needed. Make reservations ahead of time.
