I gave it 2 shots and both were bad. I came when it first opened and thought that the food was way overpriced for the portion and quality. The place was totally empty, yet the service was slow and inattentive. Pita bread finally arrived when I was halfway done with my meal. I tried it again months later during happy hour when they had some special prices on food. This time, it was more crowded. I felt the same as the first time, food and service just not up to par.

Awful! Gave us four pieces of meat for like 26 bucks, one small piece of pita bread. Not worth it. I’m Lebanese and this was not authentic. Ravagh up the road is 100x better!!! The kibbe was 3 small little pieces!!! And when we called to tell them, the woman didn’t care and couldn’t offer any help.

Tried to look past the horribly tacky spotlight rotating the restaurant’s name onto the sidewalk(those things only belong in Vegas and Miami, if you ask me). Sadly, the food was horrible. Pita tasted like few days old, grocery store bought pita. Hummus was worse than Sabra. Branzino was OK but overpriced and something we already make at home. Moroccan chicken couscous was overly sweet for me and I wish it had been cooked with all the ingredients mixed together as in a pressure cooker.

Got the shawarma laffa. Was pretty good. Keep in mind this is a kosher restaurant(which begs the question of how they’re open on Saturdays with an Orthodox heksher but I don’t keep kosher anymore so I don’t care) but if you’re used to tzatziki or other yogurt based sauces you won’t find them here. Only complaint I really have is that the layout is odd, there’s this big wooden pillar awkwardly standing in the middle of the restaurant and ruining the flow of the room, nice ceiling but otherwise eh on the decorating, very bland atmosphere. Waiters were attentive.

Do not try the Falafel it is not worth your money. The place looks inviting and service is nice but these falafel balls aren’t even balls and taste terrible. I literally took one bite and threw the whole take out order out. I strongly advise mgmt. take action to correct that but I won’t be returning again. Very disappointing.

Awesome ambiance, a very mellow place. Polite and neat servers who are attentive. A family friendly or a couples date place. The music pulls this place together with everything. The Hummus is amazing! never was crazy for hummus till having it here. So silky smooth and not gritty. Must checkout definitely bring your dates here.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but the tables are small for a large family. The servers are polite, but lack the decency to bring a family of 14 more than one piece of pita bread. When asked for the third time they finally brought out 4 pieces of pita, and 2 appetizers of hummus were ordered. When the dinner was ordered, it took an hour to get there, which is expected but one of the orders came ~20 minutes after everyone else was served. Also the dishes are not necessarily proportionate to the price because the kebab platter is $ 28 and the amount of meat served is not worth the price which is served w almost no rice. When we ordered dessert, it took almost 30 minutes to arrive and tea was also ordered. The regular tea was okay but the Turkish tea was really just a watered down espresso. Honestly for spending almost 500 bills its pretty disappointing. I felt like this was a Mediterranean restaurant meant for Americans and not the authentic Mediterranean meals. The Hummus was mixed with some Tahini which I thought was weird because I never tried hummus like that.

Amazing experience. Food was perfect. I had hummus with shawarma…-came on Sunday so had the pleasure of the bottomless sangria, some of the best and strongest sangria I’ve ever had. Clean and staff was quick and courteous. Will definitely come back, and I suggest you do the same.

The food here is very very very good. All the typical Moroccan/Israeli food that you love. Hummus is one of the best — steak was excellent. Real pitas that are freshly made. The Moroccan fish cooked in tomatoes(like chraime) is excellent, and above all schnitzel was outstanding(I never thought this generic dish could be so delicious). Schug is creamy but has all the intensity. The food is straight forward(perhaps not too creative), but the authenticity shines. The service is attentive and excellent. I have to say however the music, décor, plates, and the food do not seem to come quite together as an overall experience, and the food is a bit pricey. I will definitely be a regular.

If you are from the middle east or know middle eastern food like hummus, babaganoush, falafel, Israeli salad, tahini etc and know what it should taste like then this is a place for you. Great reviews everywhere else google, open table, etc. Get with it Unilocalers! Great food, approachable owner and friendly service. They even do private parties home office or in house. Great solid food.

4⁄10 To give a bit of background, I decided to try this place because if you reserve a table on Opentable, you could get 1,000 points(equivalent to $ 10). Thus, I was like why not? Let’s give it a shot. The waitress said it was a new restaurant that came in around Nov ’14. We went around 7:00pm and there were probably 3 other parties seated(not too busy) and the place was very quiet. The place had nice music playing(a combination of jazz, and smooth non lyrical music) Ok, let me get on with the food reviews. To begin the meal, we wanted to get drinks, but they did not have a drink menu as they were in the process of getting an alcohol license. Be aware of this when going here. On the menu, they crossed out where it said«no corkage fee.» I am assuming that this place wanted to be a BYOB at first and decided to change its mind. The table started with the hummus. Afterall, that is the name of the restaurant. We asked for both vegetables and pita to dip. The waitress was very accommodating and gave us both options without any extra charge. The hummus was homemade, very good and a great start to the meal. Good amount of oil and texture was perfect. Our table got the Pargiot Chicken($ 29) and Tahini Kebab($ 29). The pargiot chicken was very delicious. The chicken was super tender and they gave this spicy salsa that was a perfect compliment with it. However, the sizzling platter burnt the vegetables. It was quite unfortunate. I usually like some char on my veggies, but they overdid it. If the chicken wasn’t so tender, I would not recommend this dish. The tahini kebab was not the best choice in my mind. It was too salty(and trust me! I do like my salt), and the green tahini sauce was not good at all. It was grainy and had a weird texture. We finished the meal with the baklava, which was very good. not too sweet and the right amount of flakiness. Overall, I do not think the food is worth the $$$. It is fairly expensive. I think it will take the restaurant some time before they perfect the food. The staff was nice, but ultimately there are much better restaurants in nyc for the $ 30/entrée price tag. Hope this helps! Friend me if you’d like.

What an exciting experience at Hummus 21. I had the Pargiot Chicken which was served on a hot sizzling pan, while it was sizzling and smoky it grabbed a lot of attention in the room, the table next to me even asked what dish I had ordered. I had an awesome night at Hummus 21 The staff are super friendly and attentive. Best kosher restaurant around. Loved it and we will definitely be coming back.

When dining at Hummus 21 it was a great experience for my wife and I from the staff to the ambience to the food you have got to try this place it is the spot for fresh mediterranean cuisine. Try the hummus which is freshly made on the premises which is delicious with some fresh pita the best I have ever had!!! But save room for the baklava dessert at the end that was delicious. I will return back to Hummus 21 without a doubt.

If your are looking for a kosher Mediterranean restaurant in midtown east I would say hummus 21 is the restaurant where you want to go. Everything is fresh specially their hummus is very creamy I guess they use the top notch tahini. Restaurant is Glatt kosher. I love the new interior makeover. They have full bar. Don’t forget to try their desserts! Very tasty. Good job.

I ordered the Israeli Mushroom Hummus and babaganush for delivery. The hummus was watery and flavorless. This dish is usually loaded with flavor because of the mushrooms and onions, but this was seriously lacking seasoning and had the thinnest, most liquidy texture I’d ever seen with hummus. The babaganush had a weird, unpleasant taste and after two bites I threw the rest away. This was an expensive and very disappointing experience. I won’t be ordering from here again.
