Quick stop before seeing Jimmy Fallon tonight! Little pricey for the portion but it was good. It’s flu season so chicken noodle all the way!

I regret eating here last night because the soup gave me FOODPOISONING. I got the chicken corn chowder which made me seriously ill almost immediately. Eat here at your own risk. I never will eat here or any other hale and hearty again. TERRIBLE

I usually don’t have anything bad to say about Hale & Hearty. I love this place because their soup always tastes great and their sandwich/salad and soup deal is unbeatable. Unfortunately, because there’s a ton of these places within a 10 block radius, I wouldn’t go to the GC location ever again. I’m not exactly sure, but I think they have much fewer selections than the regular brick-and-mortar stores. Of course, the soup tastes the same — which is what I usually aim for, but there just didn’t seem to be as many sandwiches as I’d expected. Also, lining up is different from the stores and everyone seemed confused and piled up on top of each other. I guess the one good thing about eating in GC is the vast amount of seating they have, but even then — it may be hard to find a seat.

The SO was having a bad cold/flu, so I did a quick search for any places with good soup in midtown. The list turned out to be quite short and I resigned myself to H&H in the food court(lower level) of Grand Central Station. I picked up a quart of chicken vegetable soup for about $ 12. Lots of shredded chicken pieces, some carrots and got some 5 grain bread to go with it. Soup was ok, nothing fantastic, wished it was a little more spicy/flavorful.

I wish Hale & Hearty was in California. I basically eat here everyday when I’m in town for lunch. Eating a healthy soup + salad combo affords me the ability to indulge in a fabulous dinner lol. Not to mention that because I eat such a healthy(and I usually try to make it my main meal), I usually end up losing a few pounds! At this particular location, they are very speedy and have great attitudes, I guess they’re used to the constant crowds.

I got there at 7pm which isn’t even that late. but they had no chicken, turkey or tuna left! they didn’t even mention it until after most of your salad was created so you couldn’t walk away. most of the toppings weren’t even fresh. long story short. i paid $ 10 for a salad with no protein and vegetables that tasted old.

I really like the make-your-own salad option. I’ve eaten here numerous times and I typically have a great experience. H&H should feel lucky that I have eaten there enough that the past experience bumped up their star ranking tonight. I got caught in the office later than expected and in preparation for my hour-long train ride, I swung by H&H on my way out. Everything was moving along normally until the girl behind the bar struggled for several minutes to peel an unripe avocado out of its shell. She worked on it for over a minute. I tried to be helpful and suggested it wasn’t ripe yet. She responded that it was fine, it just didn’t want to get out of its shell. Really? The avocado was hard as a rock! She couldn’t chop it at all unlike the rest of the salad. I guess that was a stroke of luck as I could fish out the large chunks of avocado later so I didn’t risk ingesting it! I don’t expect your staff to have a degree in agriculture. But don’t try to pass off bad fruits and veggies as being ‘fine’.

I’ve eaten at Hale and Hearty many times at various locations, and most times I find their soup offerings quite delicious. This time I chose the three bean chili(which was actually quite nice) over rice. Cold Rice. COLD. I’m pulling their pants down on this one because cold rice is both unappealing and a real health hazard if not if not handled properly. Please don’t make this my last time eating here H&H!

I really like Hale and Hearty Soup at GCT– when I come to NYC on the Metro North it’s nice to be able to get a fresh salad with ingredients that I want(there are good food options at GCT, but not many healthy ones) They have multiple low-fat and fat-free salad dressing options and they are all good. I usually get salad but I recently had the black lentil soup and that was very good as well. Fast service and friendly staff. I will definitely eat here again.

Thanks to Eric K. for introducing me to H&H years ago. I come here 1−2x a week for lunch. The flavor selection is great, soups are filling and the sourdough bread is my favorite. Agree w/other reviews on price, but apparently I keep coming back so whatever. Watch the nutritional information on these soups. Sure, that’s a soup you just ordered, but guess what? Macaroni cheese bacon soup is going to be just as bad for you as macaroni and cheese with bacon. I like the spicy vegetarian soups and the cream of chicken with orzo and chicken if it’s gloomy outside.

I love soup. This place has a lot of soup. The three times I’ve been here haven’t disappointed me, except for how much change I got after handing over my ten dollar bill.(Inner monologue begins) Huh? The change is in ones? I don’t get a five back? Oh, that’s because it cost more than five bucks for the small soup. Okay… Wait, I got a small soup, not a kid’s size. Oh, that IS the small size. Okay… Well, let’s hope it taste good. It does. Whew. At least my mouth is satisfied.(Inner monologue ends) Seriously, I love the taste of these soups, especially their sweet corn chowder. But I only go here when I have a little extra cash in my pocket.

It takes a lot to upset me. Really. I work with the public every day, a lot of times for very demanding clientele who fork over their hard earned money for my travel services. I’m a grin-and-bear-it, piss sunshine and poop rainbows kind of gal, so it strikes me odd that something as simple as a salad has seemingly got my goat. After a lovely evening in my former home(NYC), hitting up some of my old haunts, I begrudgingly made my way to Grand Central for the hour long train ride home. With forty minutes to kill before Metro North left the station, I set about finding myself something to eat. Grand Central has so many dining options in the lower concourse, and I took my time perusing them all, finally settling on H&H, as I found their ‘make your own salad’ offering attractive. Four bucks gets you the greens, with some ‘freebies’ of red onion, carrot or cucumber thrown in. I proceeded to add green peas, beets, cheddar cheese and their homemade ranch dressing. The service was a bit dour, and it appeared that the employees preferred to spend their time in the adjacent back room than out in the front helping customers. Halfway through the making of my salad, my lady tapped out and another one stepped up. All in, it came to over ten dollars. Despite the sticker shock and unpleasant service, I excitedly sat down at a nearby table, popped the clamshell and dug in. Nothing. It tasted like nothing at all. The vegetables had no taste, the ranch was bland and it had been chopped to a fine pulp. As I spooned it in I questioned myself; are my taste buds failing me? I pulled a mint from my bag to test them. No… it tasted minty. This salad had absolutely no redeeming qualities about it. Even the fine chop meant that I couldn’t possibly write it off as ruffage. I felt silly for spending so much money on cheap ingredients with no payoff. As I tossed out the uneaten(ugh) item, I wrote it off as a lesson learned and found myself a Bomb-Ass falafel.

My wife and I were here taking pictures and she got hungry. She has celiacs so we were trying to find some gluten free options for her. Hale and Hearty to the rescue. They have ingredients lists for their dressings and list whether they are gluten free or not. They use a clean bowl for every salad and put the mixture in a take away bowl with a lid that won’t spill its contents if it gets tipped over. On a side note, we checked the soups after she had already ate and they have gluten free options for soups as well. When I peeked over the side a bit, I saw that they had the lids of the soups labeled if they were gluten free or not. Great place for gluten free options if you have celiacs or are gluten intolerant.

If there was a Hale and Hearty by my place I would probably go there often. But I would never go looking for one. I was at Grand Central and wondered around the food court looking for a small meal. I heard a lot of good things about Hale and Hearty so I decided to try it. There was line, not too long, but decent enough to let me know others enjoy Hale and Hearty. When getting soup, you can choose from oyster crackers or 7-grain bread. They have over 15 soups. Probably 7 – 10 everyday soups and the other few that are specials for the day. I got the three lentil chili. It was decent. It wasn’t so good that I would get it again. I felt healthy after eating it. I got it with 7-grain bread. I was pretty full after eating it. I would go back to Hale and Hearty again, probably to try their other ones. But like I said, if it’s conveniently near me, I’ll go, but I won’t spend time looking for one.

I am a fan of soup, especially those that have a great variety of them. And Hale and Hearty does fit that mold. There are always great options to choose from, and I must give kudos to the chefs who comes up with some of the soups. Sandwiches there? Not a fan. The bread is usually too hard to bit through, so I usually stick with the soup. And the prices? Well, I know I am in NYC. But if for the price of a small soup here I can get a big plate of Chinese roast duck or pork across the street, it makes me think twice on the value. Oh and the Chinese place delivers, so it’s perfect for the winter time. It’s a good thing I do crave soup once in a while. And again, if it were not for the selection, I would not be visiting this place again!

The soups are ok, but I never really want more than one or two of them. It’s nice that they let me taste, but nothing is ever SODELICIOUS that I have to have it. Also, what’s up with the prices? The small is so tiny and not worth the exorbitant amount they’re charging. Finally, they’ve sent me away without a spoon before. Does eating soup without a spoon on a Metro-North train sound like fun to you? Because that’s not my idea of a good ride.

I absolutely love the soup here. They always have a huge selection that rotates regularly. The best thing is that you can even sign up on line to receive email alerts about your favorite soups at your location of choice. That’s so amazing, now I never have to miss the Moroccan Lentil soup. In addition to the soup there is also a premade sandwich selection(the Grand Central location doesn’t have such great options) and make your own salad bar. Also, if you’re a regular start the bean card to earn free soups.
