went when it first opened and am heading back soon… the foie gras mousse is enough to go back for, but everything was so delicious, perfectly prepared, timed well and the wine list is fantastic. Authentic French food in a restaurant that is filled with interesting things. Love the bistro vibe. There’s a foosball table too.

I really wanted to love this restaurant, as I love French food. I knew that a place carved out of an existing restaurant wouldn’t necessarily be «authentic», but even I was surprised that the wall cover of faux tin tiles was a plastic version of wallpaper. Also, the music was incredibly loud as it was trying to cover up the«clubby» music at Clarkson. The only thing dividing the 2 restaurants is a wooden door. The service was very attentive, and the food was good. But I won’t be returning.

Hands down one of, if not the best meal we had in NYC. The ‘sister restaurant’ to Clarkson next door, you can enter La Gauloise through their bar area. It may be a little on the small size, but they more than make up for that with gorgeous food and exemplary service. My steak frites was far, far superior to the one I had a few weeks ago in Paris(yes, actual France). Medium rare and cooked to perfection, it was served with a bit of salad and hearty frites. Most of our group ordered it and we were so glad we did. A few of us also had dessert — I opted for three flavours of ice cream(though be aware that a couple are actually sorbet, but it was still great). As for the service, we were all served within a few minutes of each other and when we needed cabs home, one of the waiters stood outside for probably 20 minutes trying to hail us one. He probably got bollocked by his boss afterwards for that, but we really appreciated the gesture. Dine there. Dine there now!

My husband and I went here soon after it opened, so this review is long overdue. Our first impressions were the place is cozy and intimate, and makes a good setting for a low-key romantic dinner. Wait staff was courteous and warm. Between us, we ordered the Mousse de Foie Gras, Os À Moelle Rôtie(roasted bone marrow), and Joues de Veau Braisées(braised veal cheeks). The veal cheeks were among the juiciest and most succulent we have had, and the bone marrow delivered on the meaty butteriness. The foie gras mousse was absolutely delicious. Good wine selection, decent prices — this place does not disappoint.
